How to unlock the Bookworm achievement in Metaphor: ReFantazio - Definitive Guide
This missable book can only be obtained when you first arrive at Port Brilehaven and can move freely. Go near the fountain in Angler's Inn Square, and look for a winged man in a white suit named Julian. Talk to him and he will give you the book "The Magical Future".
Books can only be read while the Gauntlet runner is active (day and night). Each book will need to be read 3 times for it to be completed. All books should be available when the last party member joins.
Each book will also give good amounts of virtue points if you pick the right option, but I will leave that to more dedicated guides online if you're looking for that.
- Note that you can read the books again once you complete them so if you are looking for sources of increasing virtue you can do this as well.
It wouldn’t be an Atlus Persona-esque RPG if there wasn’t some element of reading involved, and as is always the case, you can read books to boost your Social Stats (AKA your Royal Virtues).
There are a handful of books to read in all (7), and they can only be read when you’re in transit to a location on the Gauntlet Runner - i.e. heading to a dungeon, a small neighbouring town, etc. You’ll find the bookcase in the room adjacent to the kitchen.
Each of the below books boosts a specific Royal Virtue and a new book will become available when you add a new ally to the team. The book will take 3 passages of time to read it, and once you’ve completed it, you’ll get an additional Royal Virtue boost. The books you can find in the bookcase are as follows:
- New World Travel Diary (Imagination)
- Pride and Persuasion (Eloquence)
- Bygone Days (Heismay) (Tolerance)
- Top Secret Poetry! Do Not Read! (Junha) (Courage)
- How to Walk Outside the Island (Eupha) (Tolerance)
- Literacy Workbook (Basilio) (Imagination)
The seventh and final book is a bit different, and to unlock it you’ll need to head to Angler’s Inn Square in Port Brilehaven and speak to the candidate Julian who is by the fountain (he only shows up in the daytime and when it’s not raining - we’re also sure he doesn’t turn up there in the last month too… at least he didn’t for us). He's definitely there on 07/23.
Once you speak to Julian, he will give you the book, “The Magical Future,” which improves Wisdom.
Simply read all 7 and the ‘Bookworm’ achievement is all yours.
