How to unlock the Ranger achievement in Metro 2033 Redux - Definitive Guide

This achievement is a little confusing as a game doesn't specify what a "stash" is, and there is no tracker either.

As far as I can tell, a stash is location that soldiers had previously used as a hideout and left supplies behind, or a red crate/box that was left behind randomly with supplies inside. Some fallen soldiers also have supplies on them, and there is also military-grade ammo locations, as well as a safe in the level although I do not think they count towards this achievement. However, it is advised that you make sure to get 100% of what I listed above as the game does not specify what counts and what does not.

I have made a video showing everything that you can pick up in the level, which is about 50 total items. If you follow along with the video, you will unlock the achievement by the end.

I just did a run through watching your video. I can confirm you don't need to loot individual bodies as I did not and got the achievement. I just looted the out of the way and hidden ammo and supplies caches.

Worked perfectly and the achievement popped exactly when you said it would. I even find a shotgun shell along the way you missed. Guess it didn't matter.

i think its a cache when your screen will flash white for a second its hard to see but i think thats the indicator

The flash is to do with earning a moral score point towards your enlightened ending. Not every stash has the white flash/water drop sound so don't go by that, just go by this awesome video. Thanks Maka unlocked exactly where you said. I thought I had just missed the safe near the start but you had a few I stashes I had missed. Thanks mate.

2 days ago i followed your guide, but the achievement did not pop. Then i opened up the achievements app, and it still says unlocking. am i the only one that has this problem?? this have also happened before in other games, but then the achievements popped some days later....

So I effed up and accidentally went up the stairs before collecting the last cache and was unable to to go back to get it. Does anyone know, if I replay the chapter, if I need to recollect them all or can I just speed run it to get the last one for the achievement?

Followed the video to a T. Didn't pop. Considering his repeated claim that it will 100% unlock if you follow the guide, this is a bit irritating.

Did it 3 times following the video but it didn't work. Finally the fourth time I got it but see my tip below to make sure you're not wasting your time. The achievement popped right where you said it should pop in the video: just as I cut the trip wire in the room with the mask graffiti icon on the outside. Thanks!

As a tip: I didn't have the automatic rifle and I think my problem was I naturally started the level off with full ammunition, so I could never pick up any ammo for that weapon. There may have been spots with filters and AR ammo for example where it does not register because my inventory was full. To ensure this works for any gun you're not carrying and therefore not able to unload bullets: keep pressing the pick up button on everything shown in the video till you see where your + ammunition in white that's picked up is actually red and shows ammo is full. If you picked up other ammo in that same grouping then you're fine and don't need to confirm in this way. This will make sure you get the achievement. Cheers!

I couldn't pick up ammo (didn't have a machine gun so I was maxed almost the whole level) but the achievement popped for me clap. I had already accepted I would have to get it on the next run so I was pleasantly surprised. Ty, thumbs up.

Dead City in redux is a combination of Dead City 1 and 2 from the 360 version. That being the case, there is just a slight variation on the possible/presumed 'ranger stashes' laying around the mission. As others have stated, there's no way to know with 100% certainty what does and does not count, so it's best to grab EVERYTHING in the level (apart from Diary Pages anyhow) just to be safe.

I've created a full Enlightened playthrough video, and during the Dead City mission I point out - and number - every possible/presumed ranger cache, as well as directing you to the Diary Pages in the mission as well as a spot for the Manhattan Project achievement, all in order.

You can see the full mission with all items of interest and collectibles at the 21:39 mark in the video.

I prefer text guides rather than watching videos and achievement popped for me just getting the 12 stashes listed here: https://metrovideogame.fandom.com/wiki/Ranger_(Achievement/t...)

** May be more difficult to follow for some as I knew where all of these places were from exploring in both playthroughs. Think the only one I kept missing in both was the one in the truck where you jump on the car to get across the water

Strangely enough, there is no specific in-game tracker to detail how many Ranger stashes are in the "Dead City" level, so it is best to assume all sources of loot count towards this achievement. Thus, these stashes consist of ammo, weapons and other smaller items that can be found on the body of dead soldiers and inside crates and safes as well. Remember, it is best to attempt this achievement on the Survival Mode playthrough since you will already be scavenging the levels thoroughly for precious resources. If for whatever reason you miss a stash throughout the course of the level, you must restart the level from the beginning.

During the Chapter "Dead City" there will be Ranger Stashes littered across the whole area. You must find all 47 of these during a single run of the level. Since there is no way to track how many you have collected, I strongly recommend referring to the video from PowerPyx with all the locations:

If you use a video guide for collecting Stalker caches and when approaching the next cache you cannot take the cartridges, since you are full to capacity, run to the next cache... Approaching the Stalker, even if you did not take the cartridges, counts!!! Achivkuda

Glitch works with a gas mask

If you want to search for hiding places slowly, without worrying about filters, you can use the glitch. When you reach the surface, you need to put on a gas mask. In the equipment menu, instead of the gas mask, click directly on the filter. Artem will stop suffocating, but the clock will not count down the expiration time of the filter. Sometimes, as he progresses, he begins to choke again, again we immediately press the filter, the filters are not consumed! The main thing is not to press on the gas mask, otherwise the glitch will return to normal and the consumption will begin, now until you enter a room with air. By the way, this glitch can be used anywhere in the game where a gas mask is needed.
PS For some reason the bug does not work in the Alley chapter, but works again in the Book Depository, does not work in the final chapter of the Tower.
