How to unlock the Weaponsmith achievement in Metro 2033 Redux - Definitive Guide
Keep your achievement tracker up, and you can note which weapons you've used. Also keep in mind that modified weapons (like a modified Bastard) works like any Bastard. You don't need special variations. Yes, you need grenade and knife kills. I would not work on this while going for Enlightened, although I haven't finished the playthrough yet, so it still may be possible. If I remember, Enlightened comes easier if you only knock oout rather than kill enemies. (I've gone for kills on a Spartan run.)
I was able to pop this in the mission after I left Sparta at the beginning of D6 in my first playthrough, in the tunnels with the large doors).
At the Church, I switched all my guns to the Azbats, Bigun and Hellbreath. I then got rid of the Azbats when I found a new gun since I didn't want to waste all my shotgun ammo.
Here's a guide to where a lot of the weapons can be found, although this was written for the 360 version: http://metro2033.wikia.com/wiki/Weaponsmith
The weapons that aren't listed are the Azbats (Heavy Automatic Shotgun... burns through ammo), Shambler (the automatic shotgun - 6 shots), Bigun (a pneumatic arrow launcher), and Hellbreath (formerly the Volt Driver).
Suggestions:
Whenever you find a new gun, swap it out and use it. If you put down a weapon you like, use it quick and reload the checkpoint (if you can) to get your other one back. I actually didn't use a location guide for this at all, just made sure to switch weapons when I could.
At the beginning of Black Station, Ulman will give you a silenced VSV. As I remember, they're pretty rare. You should be going for the Merciful achievement in this playthrough, so you have 2 options: kill one of the guards at the beginning with the VSV, then reload the checkpoint (the tracker will note that you used the weapon), or hold onto it if you don't have a silenced weapon and want to take out lights.
I don't know if the flamethrower is available anywhere besides the railcar mission (where you should be working on Pyro), but you'll get that kill very easily through natural progression.
I finished it, so I don't know how many different weapons the tracker follows.
You find most of the weapons naturally throughout gameplay. You can go back through chapter select and pick up or buy certain weapons to get the required kill.

AKSU - it was not present on Hardcore [Spartan] difficulty, but appeared in Ranger Hardcore [Survival]; one way or another, but this trunk does not participate in the achievement.
Machine gun - it is impossible to complete the Battle of Railcars chapter without killing with a machine gun.
Knife - during the QTE we kill at least one monster (in the Dead City), in addition, the knife participates in the “Snake” achievement.
4 types of throwing weapons - all of them are also used in achievements.
Kalashnikov 2012 - available at the beginning of the game in the Tower chapter - in the same chapter you will have to kill several guards.
Revolver - given according to the plot in the chapter Hunter - in the same chapter we kill ghouls.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ - given according to the plot in the VDNH chapter - in the Pursuit chapter we kill ghouls.
Doublet - given according to the plot in the chapter Pursuit - in this chapter we kill ghouls.
Tikhar - can be found in the side branch of the first tunnel in the Abandoned Tunnels chapter - in the room where Tikhar lies, you can kill a couple of kikimoras or, going further, quietly kill several bandits.
Kalashnikov - at the beginning of the Sukharevskaya chapter, take the Kalashnikov Bourbon in the ventilation or at the end of the chapter in the bandit leader’s room - everything is better than ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ - carry it with you until you find a better weapon.
Killer - first encountered by bandits at Sukharevskaya station; lies in a carriage converted into a cage for ghouls, on the far right side of the Sukharevskaya station - it will be useful against ghouls in the following chapters.
Helsing:
1. Immediately after entering the smoke-filled part of Paveletskaya station, turn left, go up the stairs, turn left again and pick up Helsing next to the safe.
2. Chapter Outpost: after exiting the tunnel, we go straight to the rubble covered with snow; the remains of Helsing lie nearby.
3. Black station: in the subway car, which is located not far from the generator.
1. In Paveletskaya’s chapter, Helsing is virtually useless: shooting a kikimore with it is a so-so option (although you only need to kill one).
2, 3 Excellent for killing fascists, even heavily armored ones.
VSV - can be taken from the plot at the beginning of the chapter Black Station - this VSV is equipped with a silencer: it will be useful for quietly eliminating fascists or breaking light bulbs.
There are 4 types of weapons left. Velopal, Paragraph and Rail can and should be taken in the Temple. All 3 weapon slots are occupied, but you also need to take a flamethrower. It will automatically replace one of the weapons in the Tunnel to Kievskaya chapter, so I did this: in the Tunnel to Kievskaya chapter I used only the flamethrower, and at the end of the chapter I changed its replaced weapon. Thus, all that remains is to complete kills using only the last 3 types of weapons, and after completing the game, load the chapter and receive the “Pyromaniac” achievement.
Velopal - can be taken according to the plot in the Temple - kill the ghouls in the Cave chapter.
Paragraph - can be taken according to the plot in the Temple - kill the ghouls in the Cave chapter.
Rail - can be taken according to the plot in the Temple - kill the ghouls at the head of the Cave.
Flamethrower - will automatically replace one weapon in the chapter Tunnel to Kyiv - we use it here.
