How to unlock the Thief achievement in Metro 2033 Redux - Definitive Guide

This Achievement requires you to unlock 15 safe boxes throughout Metro 2033 Redux.

The 15 safe boxes DO NOT have to be 15 different safe boxes, I found one safe box and kept opening it by loading the same checkpoint 15 times.

The easiest place that I found to farm this is in the chapter "Lost Tunnel".

In order to open safe boxes you require a key. A key can be found on a dead body around where your partner warns you about the tin can alarm systems.

Thanks to SDREW44 for the info about the key! toast

When you encounter your first group of human enemies, there is a safe box in the back next to a sitting guard and a glowing mushroom. Simply sneak past the guards (or kill them, your choice) and open the safe box. Pause, hit Load Last Checkpoint, rinse and repeat.

Below is a video if anyone needs a visual reference of the location and the process of farming the achievement.

Good Luck smile

Great spot. Another good one is dead city. Right at the start. Key is off to the right in the enclosed area along the wooden doors you exit with bourbon. And the safe is upstairs, and you easily run right through the two trip wire bombs unscathed. Takes about 20 seconds each time.

The safe in the market level doesn't seem to count towards this.
EDIT: nvm I think the app was just really really slow.

Fastest way I've found is to load up the 'Dead City ' mission, right off the start run into the room to your right, pick up the red key on the wall, turn around and run into the doorway to the right of the escalators, past the traps, up the stairs and through the halls till you get to the door. Open the door, go inside and open the lockbox on the table. Load last checkpoint and rinse and repeat till you get that precious 40g achievement.

The previous solutions were helpful but took long. Here is a faster solution.

To get this achievement, you have to open a total of 15 safe boxes. Now, it doesn't have to different boxes. It can be SAME safe box than you open again and again and again by reloading your last checkpoint.

At the very end of the level ''Trolley Combat'' (between the missions ''Frontline'' and ''Depot''), there will be a save and you will be back on foot.

Reproduce what I do in the video. Load Last check point. Repeat.
The 15th time, the achievement will unlock.

Doing it once takes approximately 25 seconds, doing it 15 times takes approximately 6 minutes and a half.

Cheers

In the chapter Lost Tunnel, almost at the end, is a gap in the hallway. Before that, the key is found at the dead guy in the circular centre to your right. (You can shimmy your way there, the key is recognized by a red ribbon)

You cross the water, walk all the way to the left. You will see this Hazmat suit kind of thing. Walk to your left, turn the steam valve off and walk to the safe locker standing there. Repeat until you get the achievement.

Also, the second 'blog' and some gold bullets can be found in the area (the blog next to a dead guy when you walk back to the pillar on the left), the gold bullets are located in the book shelf in the cage by the hazmat suit.

In case you are not interested in farming the safes, but wish to find them as you play, here is a guide for that as well.

It doesn't need to be 15 different safes. You can open a safe, then reload last checkpoint, then open the same safe again. I finished this up when I reached the library. Shortly after entering the library, before going up a set of stairs, you'll see a safe on the right in a small area at the base of the stairs. Go up, then right, and either shoot the tentacles so they retract, or run past them to the other side of the room. There you will see an area with a light and two bodies surrounded by cobwebs. The body on the right has a safe key. Grab it, return the way you came to the safe at the bottom of the stairs. Open it, then reload the last checkpoint. It should start you right at the stairs. Run and grab the key again, return to the safe, and repeat until the trophy pops up. I found this to be the quickest place where there is a checkpoint, a key, and a safe all together. Most people should have a few safes opened already by this point so most likely will only have to do this a couple of times. I did it around 4-5 times then got the trophy. Good luck.

A very quick and easy way to unlock this achievement is to load up Caves. At the start to your left is a safe inside a wooden box. Run down the corridor and on the left is a door to open (the one that progresses the story line) and on the wall to the left is a red box. Inside is a Teddy Bear holding the safe key. Run back, unluck the safe and Load Last Checkpoint, repeat. Takes about 20 seconds each run.

As described in the introduction you simply need to open 15 safes. This can be accomplished by opening one safe and looting the contents, then reloading checkpoint and opening the same safe again until the trophy pops! I did this on the Lost Tunnels/Bridge Chapter. After the Hanza trolley helps you fight off the nosalis pack, there will be a ladder to climb down to an irradiated area. On the left is a room where you must shut off some steam to reach a safe, reloading the checkpoint starts you right in this room.

Throughout the game, you will eventually find yourself stumbling upon locked safe boxes that are hidden away in certain areas of a level. Unfortunately, the only way to open these safes is to acquire a particularly small safe key. Be warned, this achievement will require a tremendous amount exploring, looting, and backtracking in order to find both the safe keys and safe boxes.

With that said, make sure to check every corridor, room, and alternate path while progressing through a level. You may end up noticing some lootable sources or dead bodies have shiny red objects on them. This is the keyring of a safe key! With a safe key in your possession, all that is required is to continue exploring in order to find a safe box. Overall, there is no in-depth guide that can detail the locations of keys and safe boxes, so try to explore and loot as much as possible. Once you open at least fifteen locked safe boxes, the achievement is yours.

NOTE: This achievement can actually be grinded out on the same safe box over and over again. Therefore, refer to the "Ranger" video guide as there is a key and safe box within the very first area of this level. After you open the safe box, your progress saves towards the achievement so just restart your checkpoint to continue grinding this out.

Everything is very simple: the game is automatically saved after each of your actions (an icon with a glowing disk appears) and you can stupidly go through the same section of the level several times to get the coveted trophy. There are only two ways to get this trophy: go through the entire game looking for safes or a simpler one, on the fifth level “Abandoned Tunnels”, there is one safe at the first checkpoint with bandits, remove all enemies and restart the checkpoint. Let me explain: after opening the safe, the game itself will count this action for you, and after that you can restart the checkpoint again. You will be thrown out again next to the checkpoint and you will have to repeat all the steps again. 15 runs - the trophy is yours.

In order not to clear the place of bandits 15 times, after killing them, for the first time, you need to run to the next checkpoint. And from there, run to the safe 15 times and open it.

The red key to this safe is in the hand of the corpse lying in the tunnel to the left of the entrance to the corridor where the cans hang.

We do it at the Battle of the Railcar level. You can do it on one safe and reboot again.

Can be boosted along with the Minesweeper trophy. When you come to the surface with Bourbon, he knocks down the door in the subway lobby, there is a checkpoint. Turn around and run through the door, up the stairs and all the way to the right. Unload the stretch along the way. Further in the office there is a safe. Open it and reload the checkpoint. Repeat 15 times.

You don’t have to clean it, but on the courts you can walk along the right wall (turn off the flashlight), there will only be 2 guards there and one near the safe itself

As we wrote earlier, this is easy to do when choosing chapters. Select "Abandoned Tunnels" and go ahead.
You can combine a draft with a reward. At the beginning of the chapter, there will be a passage on the left side... we go along it, kill two mutants and there will be a "quiet" lying near the cage... Well, then we protect the bandits with pneumatic weapons, open the safe and go to the checkpoint.

Easy to do in the "Front Line" chapter. There is a long bridge at the very top, as soon as you rise, turn left into a dark corridor. There is a door, next to it in the corridor is the key to the safe. The checkpoint is also three steps away. We ran down the stairs and opened it. All about 10-15 seconds.

There is an option to get the trophy much faster at the “Battle of the Railcar” stage, after you shoot with a machine gun, you get off the railcar and find yourself in the tunnel opposite your partner who was driving the railcar, run straight towards him, then turn left and open the door there is a safe and a key nearby, reload the checkpoint 15 times and the trophy is all yours, + there are 150 rounds of ammunition in the safe and there are a lot of interesting things in the cabinets
