How to unlock the Enlightened achievement in Metro 2033 - Definitive Guide

5/29/12 EDIT

Alright I'm completely scrapping my original solution and linking you to this page. The achievement is based off a points system. The only way to obtain the Enlightened achievement is to obtain a certain amount of points. I just ran through this game this past weekend and I only missed 3 possible points and got the achievement. How many you need is unkown by me at this time

Get the points, Get the Achievement

So, I just got it, following this guide: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21...

I think the key insight there is not to steal stuff. It's more or less the same series of choices, except with an emphasis on NOT picking up ammo that is clearly someone else's - in my previous attempts, I had been getting all the Sherlock bullets, which may have been the problem.

In what level exactly do you have to reach the dark one ?
Is it obvious or can you miss it ?
0
0
By Wicelow on 08 Jun 2010 17:31
um you reach the dark one in several levels, the one you "have" to go towards the dark one is at the end of chapter 3. its when the wooden plank fence breaks and it points you in the direction of a closing gate, instead of going towards the gate hang out at the gate and stand next to the dark one.

Just got it, I shot the targeting system and got it. I didn't talk to Khan, which I was told was a big thing to do. But I also followed everything else on the x360a guide.

I completed the game and didn't do a lot of the things mentioned here. Anyone know if I can go back, just replay the chapters with the points mentioned and replay the ending to get the achievement, or do I need to play through from the beginning? Thanks

I did follow the wiki guide and at the end I got the achievement. For those who are struggling with it, I stole every bullet, killed everyone in the level "frontline" except the communist prisonners, and I ran through the level "black station" ; this means that i did'nt got any of the moral points for listening to the conversations. In the end, I thought i wasn't going to get the achievement because the dark ones were trying to kill me and I had to shoot the one a the final scene, but this happens in both endings, so you don't have to worry about it as I did. Hope it helps

I was playing without thinking they was a hidden moral bar.I just picked every ammo i could(soldiers, stashes, civilist rooms)i accepted ammo as payment for my help(bourbon and the woman who missed its child).I sneaked my way tru the nazi and reds lines(no saving red prisoners).I gave 1 bullet each to everyone who asked for help.Ive send the messege on top of the building(DJ Artjom).
In every scene with dark ones i walked toward them(when possible).
I had to shoot down a dark one at the end but when Artjom came to senses i could disarm the laser target device or just wait untill the rockets came.So i can say i was lucky to had the chance to get both endings.
At the very end the voice said the whole time "you will be stopped...kill him" and such.
I would like to point out that i didnt knew i was able to shoot at the laser davice(never tried).
I just walked close to it untill this "disarm" sign popped up.
Hope i could help a bit.

The video solution works, that is all I followed so although the wiki shows 64 possible morale points you can get the achievement with only 46 but doesn't give any info on negative morale points. Nice one for the solution, gets a thumbs up.

First thing I want to mention to people, you DO NOT need to get all of them. I missed quite a few and was still alright; you probably just need most of them.

Secondly, I discovered that you get an additional point for completing Frontline without killing anyone, as well as Black Station.

I didn't even know this game has a morality system, I'm usually a goodie-two-shoes and I did a bit of exploring so I ended up getting it. The idea of shooting the device never came to mind so I vaulted over the Dark One and pushed it off.

Do all the good deeds mentioned in the guide but also do 2 certain requirements, on Black Station listen to the two Nazi guards by the campfire they tell how unhappy they are being apart from their families plus you need to sneak through the level and not kill any nazis. The main requirement though is to talk to Khan upstairs at the Ranger depot before D6 he will advise you to see things in a different light. PS you also need to walk towards the Dark ones in the two flashbacks.

So I did all that and... no dice.

Here's a rundown of things that seemed important:

I talked to the guy in the Prologue who says that people want to leave the stations
I gave the guy a couple bullets for his sick kid
I gave a bullet to three poor dudes in Riga
I gave a bullet to the kid guide
I didn't kill anybody in the bandit place where Bourbon dies
I saved the Reds and didn't kill anybody I didn't have to (no Reds were killed, only the Nazis around the prisoners)
I broadcast the message to warn Polis
I ran through Black Station without killing anyone
I ran towards the Dark One in the scene after Black Station (behind the fence, when they talk about children who try to understand their parents)
I refused the ammo from Sasha's mom
I talked to Khan in the Ranger station before D6
I walked toward the Dark One in the scene at the beginning of D6 (talking about seeing the sun and the sky)

then I completed the effing game and nothing changed. It was the same ending I've seen three times previously. Either there's a glitch or there's something you all have left out...

Hmmm, I didn't try to get this achievement, only looked at this guide near the end of the game. They were constantly saying things like 'stop him' and 'he will destroy us', when I heard this I presumed I couldn't get this achievement as your guide says they would say different things, but I shot the thing at the end anyway and got the achievement.

I was trying to go for this today. I got all the way to D6, when my save file glitched for some reason. A rare bug where upon loading your save game you can't use any weapons or anything. The only way to fix it is reload the level entirely. Doing that however overrides everything. So, yeah, I have to go back and do all these good things again, from scratch. Bye, bye all the effort I put in. I don't mind that you have to replay the game a few times to get all achievements, but bugs and glitches like this, in an otherwise very good game, just piss me off.

I don't have much new to add, but i will say regardless of how many moral points you rack up PLAY TO THE END and attempt the Enlightened ending by shooting or disarming the laser system.
I thought when i reached the tower and the voices hadn't changed (they were still shouting i came to destroy them) I had failed and i almost stopped playing. Since it would only take a few more minutes to finish up i decided to attempt it anyway and it worked out just fine.
Granted, nobody seems to know the exact amount of points you need (and i did get most of them) you should grab as many as you can with your play through using the guide and you should be ok. It seems there were a lot of people who got a lot less than i did and were also able to trigger the alternate ending.

Well I just got this achievement. It seems to be a very tricky achievement for people to pin down exactly what is needed to get it to pop. During my run through I also did the Sherlock, Ranger and Metro Dweller achievements. So since I stole every set of bullets I could to get Sherlock and still got Enlightened it seems that stealing doesn't matter. I also did not rescue the Reds and in fact I killed every enemy in Frontlines and in Black Station.

- I didn't give money to the guy for his sick kid
- I didn't give money to the kid who wanted to guide me to Bourbon
- I did give money to the beggers
- I did find just about every dead body hidden in the game
- I did play every guitar in the game
- I didn't talk to my Dad in Exhibition
- I did talk to Khan at the end
- I didn't take money from Sasha's Mom
- I did walk towards the Dark Ones in both visions.

I hope this helps people figure out exactly what this achievement needs to be completed. But I suspect that this will only help to confuse people. Since many of the things I did contradict what others have done.

My theory is that you simply need to do a lot of things that get you that water drop sound / flash of light. I do mean ALOT! More than is necessary for just the Ranger achievement. Good luck all!

I discovered a glitch. On black station there is a secret area, its just past the train. Go into a crevice to the left and look for crates. This glitch is simple, walk back and forth to the light and you'll see the flash and hear the water droplets, I did this for about 15 mins on my first play through and got the enlightened achievement. I didn't even know about the achievement until the tower.

At first, I found the spot you were talking about a door way blocked with crates in the little underground area near the the train. The spot is behind the crates blocking the door way. Try crouch jumping to the left of the creates and you should be able to get into this spot. Than you just keep walking back and fourth to the lantern in there.

I can confirm the glitch still works, chapter select is allowed as well!
So just load up Black station do the glitch for like 15-20 min to be sure, and than play till the end.
If you feel comfortable with it you also can make forced saves, change something in your settings like subtitles and the game saves your progress :)

Works great but you must play through to the end of the game as you cannot just load up the final chapter after completing glitch.
The location: Search the area and you'll find a train car, there's only 1, go inside the train and at the front you'll see a nice pneumatic arrow gun, now, look out the front window of the train and you should see a light in the tunnel just ahead. Walk up to the lantern and on your left you should see an opening leading downward. Walk down the planks and on your left will be a door with boxes pilled up. Climb over boxes and theres the secret room

Thanks for the glitch. Just for the record, after the glitch you are looking at around 2 hours -2hours 20 minutes until you complete the game, that you must do for the achievement to pop. I did this yesterday and I had played before so I knew what I had to do as well. I just wanted to let everybody know how long you are looking at in order to do the glitch and then do the game to the end straight afterwards.

I tried this on my way through the 2nd playthrough of the game. I had earned most of the Moral Points following another guide to this point, sat for about 20 minutes doing this and continued on still earning the other Moral Points for the game. I got to the ending and it gave me the default ending still, even after collecting all the Moral Points through the game and sitting there trying this solution for all that time, still didnt' give me the correct ending and the final achievement :( The guys are trying to kill me and it won't let me kick the gps off :(

Works. If you finished the game already. Go to level Black Station and do this trick and play the rest of the game like normal. The moment you shoot the Dark One in the dream world, you wake up and it lies in front of you, you can shoot the GPS thingy of the tower and you did it right. If if does not lie in front of you. Not enough positive moral points.

Yep, sorry for the stupid questions. I must've walked back and forth for a solid half hour. Was nervous about leaving that area since there is no going back. Finally sucked it up and carried on. I also kicked the targeting device off the tower just for good measure. Thanks for the solution, saved me a TON of time.

I don't know. I did it all in one play through. Which is when I discovered it and read about one theory which completely bashes the chick who must have spent like along time on her guide. His theory was simple it comes down to activating enough flashes/water droplets. The simplest explanations usually are the more correct as code has limitations.

Just found the spot, wont lie, it was dificult to find using yours descriptions. I'll try to be more acurate.
You start the level by taking (or not) the gun that is given to you, walk till u see two patrols talking; personally I would say to kill everyone (cause it will be easier to run round the station). Then u come to a guard walking past u in corridor, then another two by a gate, talking. If u pass this "gate" u will se a stair to ur right, get down; now u are in the middle of the plataform. Look to your left and u will ser a huge broken pipe, walk for it and you"ll fall into a little underground area. Now stick to your right wall and walk all the way to end (u can only take left here). Pass through the dorway and turn right, theres a bunch of crates and the spot is right behind it.

I did it a few days ago and i followed the videos of "mrBolokan" from youtube All credits goes to him for the excellent videos.
Do exactly, what he do and you should get your achievement.
If you did one playthrough and did not get your achievement delete the savefile and the systemcache and then do it with his videos.

I was very doubtful that this was working because I tried it once and it didn't but tried again and it did :) the video shows only 46 things you need to do and the wiki page shows 64. I must have got negative morale points somewhere when it didn't work. I would advise looking at the wiki (link in first solution) to get a better idea of what to do but the video does help so thanks for the solution.

I don't think it's necessary to delete your save and clear the cache. Just start a new playthrough if you got the bad ending achievement previously

This is a story related achievement, but missible.

This is an alternative second ending to the game. In this ending you will save the "Dark Ones" from a horrible demise.

Requirements for Enlightened ending
This guide is rather lengthy but very detailed, everything you need to know about completing this ending can be found here.

Enlightened
You will know if you have this alternative good ending by the time you make your way up the tower. There are several differences from the bad ending. The first is that the Dark Ones will say "he can hear us", "he can help us".

Once you place the laser targeting system down you will see another vision of soldiers and Dark Ones fighting. Complete the dream sequence and shoot the Dark One at the end. You will return to the real world where Khan will be talking to you. As you stand up the targeting system will be counting down from 20, the Dark One will then reach towards the system, shoot the targeting system. This will then trigger a different outcome.

If it's hostile, you kill it
Once you have earned the "Enlightened" achievement you can reload your previous checkpoint, allow the game to carry on without destroying the targeting system. Doing so will earn you this achievement in the same playthrough.

This is an alternative ending where you save the “Blacks” from death. You need to complete secondary tasks and show kindness to the people you meet along Artyom’s path. The video below shows what actions are given an alternative ending. At the end, when the countdown to the launch of the rockets begins, you are faced with a choice. If you knock down a targeting tablet with a shot, you get “Enlightened”; if not, you get “Enemies must be exterminated.”

You don’t need to perform ALL good actions, for example, I didn’t do any actions at the “Front Line” level and at another level where you need to go through stealth (I don’t remember the name), at the end there was still a revolver, I knocked down the tablet and got, so if you don’t want to sweat somewhere, forget about it. (I don’t know exactly how many actions are needed, but I did NOT complete about 7)
