How to unlock the Scrooge achievement in Metro 2033 - Definitive Guide

You have to have 500 rounds on you at one time, rounds that you spend do not carry over as part of the count, you have to save up 500 rounds. Just buy ammo when you need it, most of the guns you can pick up in battles so don't waste your ammo buying guns. It is pretty easy to save up actually and you should have it by about halfway through. Once you get it then buy better scoped guns and armor.

From the comment made below - If you find yourself not using certain types of your dirty ammo stash or find yourself with tons of ammo and you are close to 500 then sell it all at the exchange kiosks and get the achievement and then just re-load your last save. Also a good way to get the Wheeler Dealer achievement, just buy the 10 things, get the achievement, and then re-load your last save.

If you have not earned this one by the time you reach Polis sell all of your dirty ammo before you talk to Miller. This achievement should then pop. Re-load as needed.

I hadn't actually earned this by the time I got to Polis and didn't have enough Ammo to make up the difference when selling. But at the beginning of chapter 7 I found a nice box by the vehicle that must of had around 200-250 military grade rounds. This was enough to put me over and get the achievement.

Just incase anyone thinks they buggered it up like I did.

I can confim what Kinesis916 says. Beside the buggy (with the turret) at the beginning, there is 210 rounds. A little later there is a red car with 150 in the trunk. By those numbers, you need 140 round on you on "Tower" to get this ach.

I think my game hates me - I lose rounds between chapters. Anyone else have this problem?
And yes, I'm sure I'm not firing them. I check my reloads to make sure I have not switched over.

Can anyone please tell me how to switch rounds. My guy is wasting the good stuff with all guns. I can figure out how to switch to the cheap ammo to shoot, thanks.

If you have the Ranger DLC then this achievement becomes a piece of cake.

First, while travelling with Bourbon, grab the Volt Driver from the first Bandits barricade that you reach.

Once you reach Armory, go trade in your Volt Driver for the cheapest weapon there is. You should receive 179 MR. Run back to Andrew the Smith's room and grab the other Volt Driver lying there and do it again, receiving another 179 MR, Then go grab the Automatic Shotgun and trade it in too, to receive another 75 MR. That's 433 MR right there.

Note: The achievement only unlocks at EXACTLY 500. If you go over, buy some ammo until it drops to 499 and then trade the ammo back to get to 500 MR.

Once you get to Polis (the last place in the game where you can buy and sell stuff) you can sell all your ammo to get up to 500. Then you can load an earlier save.

By the time I got to Polis and sold all my ammo I was still 50 bullets short. I ended up buying some weapons and left Polis with only about 280 bullets. Despite all that I still ended up finding enough bullets to make it to 500 by the time I got to D6. There are several very large caches of bullets in D6 and Cave (one has 50!) so don't worry.

Even following the WT, I was short too. Mine popped at 497 bullets however, lol.

There are two types of ammo within the metro system. One is a general "dirty" ammo which you will use as a common ammo source. Military grade ammo on the other hand can be used as ammo, but you will also need to use it as a currency.

This achievement requires you to pick up and hold 500 military rounds at once. The ammo which is used as currency will be used in your machine gun, and several other weapons. If you want to save up plenty of rounds I suggest you use an alternative gun until you have found 500 military grade rounds.

The following guns use military grade ammunition. Be very careful and check your ammo source before firing these weapons:

  • Bastard (Metro standard issue Machine Gun)
  • Kalash (AK-47)
  • Kalash 2012 (modded AK-47)
  • VSV Rilfle (Automatic Sniper Rifle)

If you have dirty rounds for your gun, but have Military Grade rounds loaded hold down the  to switch over the rounds you are using.

You must accumulate 500 gold cartridges, which are used as settlement currency.

This achievement can also be easily obtained on the “Kuznetsky Most” in this way: At the “Abandoned Tunnels” level, take the “rail” from the fire and store it until the “Kuznetsky Most” level, there after Andrey the Master saves you, go to the weapons dealer and sell it "rail", then we go to Andrey Master's room and take another "rail". If there are not enough cartridges, then after selling the second "rail", we again go to Andrey Master's room and take away the Automatic Shotgun from there, after which we sell it again. If after that there was not enough cartridges (which is unlikely), we turn right there is an exchange kiosk and sell cartridges H)

CheapNewt877 says it right, but you can’t just sell a weapon, you can only exchange it for another. Therefore, if you exchange a rail for a doublet from a trader, you will be paid well; then in Andrei the master’s closet you exchange the doublet for a second rail, which you again exchange for a doublet in the store; and you go and change it in the closet for an autodrobe; and if you don’t have enough money, then you exchange the autodrop from the Sidorichs for a doublet.

If you don’t understand what I wrote, I can repeat it))))))))))
