How to unlock the Stand back achievement in Metro Exodus - Definitive Guide

Agree that it can be done much earlier in the game, but I found the easiest spot to do it was in the "Caspian Sea" level.

Rinse and repeat = achievement popped. Hope that helps.

I did it after she takes out the sniper from where he was positioned. A van pulls up with 5 or 6 guys . Same as you did then made a save and reloaded. Boy was the sway on the rifle annoying.

Awesome. Yeah it doesn’t handle like most snipers in other games.

@Mrsparrowisback

I just finished the game and have the same problem. I was restarting a checkpoint in the Taiga level where I could get 15-20 kills in a bandit camp from a roof and it wouldn't go past 98%, no matter how many I killed.

I accidently saved this for my iron playthrough, its pretty easy in Caspian to get kills on bats, mutants, etc with a sniper. You can even kill friendly slaves from far away and it counts, etc.

Caspian. Pistol with 4x scope. Craft ammo. Run into desert and look for things to shoot.

My comment says to move outside (of the cabin) and take out the guys on the bridge leading to the tower. Did you take them out on the way in perhaps?

Think this needs a little more detail.
Picked up sniper. Then where? Literally no one shooting at me outside or anyone I can see....

@MAST3R SHAKE04

Good news, I managed to get the achievement 2 days ago after a long struggle. After I put my previous message out here, a user from this site messaged me stating that he had the same problem with the Saboteur achievement, but in the end he unlocked it.

He said that I should completely delete my save files from both the cloud and the console. Did it, started a new game, got 50+ kills on the Volga level vith the Kalash (I remembered that earlier I raised the achievement tracker with this weapon), but still no luck.

After sending him another message, he told me do make it to the Caspian level, get the Valve rifle, and start picking off enemies from the giant crane (the same location which is described in the first solution on top of this page). I went there, got the kills (5-6 enemies, then i reloaded the checkpoint), and after 30-40 kills, I finally got the achievement.

Long story short: if it is glitched for you, delete your save from everywhere, then get the Valve rifle, and start killing bandits. I would NOT recommend to try it with any other weapons, because there is a high risk that it won't work.

Also, I recommend to do everything else before deleting the save (collectbles, new game+, etc.), and save this one for last.

Credits go to RAS BruTaL, who shared the solution with me. A few months ago I kinda gave up on this achievement, so it was quite a surprise that I could finally unlock it.

For me, it seems that this achievement has been glitched. I started killing mutants from long distance on the Caspian level, but the tracker has stopped at 98% (theoretically I need 1 more kill).
Since then, I killed at least another 50 enemies (bandits and mutants) from huge distances on multiple levels, with multiple weapons and ammunition, but my kills are not getting registered for the achievement.

During my playthroughs, I encountered tons of glitches in this game, I even had to restart a level once, but it seems that nobody had a problem with this one, so it is quite uncommon. After finihing new game+, i will try to reinstall the game/starting a new save, and hope it will fix the problem.

Did anyone else had a similar problem?

Update:

I have tried all these to get it working:
-reinstalling the game
-got some kills from a distance in Sam's Story
-deleted my save file, started a new one
-tried getting kills from a distance with every type of weapon
-shot another 50+ enemies and creatures from huge distances on almost every level

None of these helped. At this point, I have no idea how to do it, since it has been stuk at 98%. It is such a shame that I cannot complete this game because of this.

Hey guys a quick guide to help with distance and some pointers

You have to make 50 kills at this distance or further.

I'd suggest a sniper type weapon with at least a 4x scope.

The spot I found in this video is in the Mission The VOLGA.

It is cumulative and you can save and load and kill the same enemies again.

Good call.

I went to the railing in front of the safe house on the tracks, made sure my 4x scope was equipped on my Kalash, and just farmed those little mutant rat looking fuckers for 15 minutes. Easy peasy.

Where do you find the 4x scope? One source I read, said that it was in the crashed airplane in the cockpit in Volga, but it’s not there for me and it’s not an option for available scopes on any of my guns so there’s no way I picked it up already...

This game is buggy as hell, but please lmk if you discovered it elsewhere.

There are suit upgrade guides all over the Internet, but almost nothing on weapon mod locations.

I did find the scope in the crashed plane - not sure why it’s not there for you? Maybe they have random spawn chance locations, but you are right, there is very little on where to find weapon mods.

If you already finished the game and you want to do this achievement quick and without wasting your time finding the right weapon, just start ''The Caspian'' and walk in the direction of your first objective. Look around...there are a lot of rabbids and flying creatures around you....save, shoot 4-5 of them with the pistol you start with and reload! ;)

Apparently cute and harmless rabbids also count as enemies :P

None of my kills are counting for this. I've shot enemies across the map from a tower and they don't count. It's been stuck at 40% for over a week now.

As far as I can tell the tikhar doesn't seem to work for this ach for w/e stupid reason. At least it 100% doesn't for me quick saved and loaded and tried between it and my kalash, got credit for the kalash (even at a closer distance) than the tikhar with or without the rail gun attachment. Kinda dumb but yea.

facepalm D'oh. Would appear you're right. Got a kill with the Bulldog or whatever and it ticked up 2%. I almost exclusively use the Tikhar. That never even occurred to me. Good lookin' out R3.

All you need to do is use a long — range sniper rifle-valve rifle. The main thing is to make sure that the distance to the target is sufficient, otherwise "killing at a distance" will not be counted! You can kill anyone!

The distance required for kills to count for this achievement is unknown, however, the range doesn't seem to be too far. The combat in Metro: Exodus is typically either stealth or close quarters so it's likely you will need to grind this achievement.

The best weapon for this is the Valve Sniper Rifle, which can be found in various places, but most notably during the Caspian level. After helping Giul at her lighthouse and fighting through all of the Spiders in the archives you will be told to go and meet Anna. She will give you three side missions to complete, one of which is to kill a sniper in a crane that you're shown via the binoculars. If you kill this sniper you can pick up his Valve and it is set up with a long range scope.

Once you have this you can then go and find a group of enemies to grind out kills on. There is a small encampment of enemies to the East of where you find this sniper rifle, on a kill above the ship that is also a side mission. Be as far away from these enemies as you can while still being able to see and shoot them, then make a quick save. Kill them all, making sure to check the achievement tracker so that you know you're far enough away for the kills to count, then reload the save and repeat as necessary.

You will first find the 'Valve' sniper rifle during the CASPIAN Chapter. There are a couple of high locations during this level in which you can save, sniper all enemies in sight then reload. This is a great way to farm these kills.

At the far right of the map at the bottom is a small helipad. There's hangers and a tall Air Traffic Control building. At the top of the ATC tower you have a clear view of the map. There are nests located just outside the front entrance where you came in and behind the building near the road. You can get up to 10 kills from here. Save, kill, load - rinse and repeat until the trophy pops. There is also a sniper rifle located on top of an oil rig near the boat where the slaves are being held. From this location, use the same method as above to farm kills.
