How to unlock the Tidyman achievement in Metro Exodus - Definitive Guide

Does not work on Ranger Hardcore as you can not use Quick save (Manual save)

Quick method, Make sure you have 40 or more 'Chemical Resources'. This is used to clean your weapons.

Find a crafting bench.
Make a Quick save.

Now if your like me I had 2 very dirty guns that needed a full clean which used up about 40 of my chemical resources.

You can get them fairly dirty by jumping in water, getting caught out in bad weather conditions etc.

After I cleaned both my guns I backed out of crafting bench and then hit quick load. This should then spawn you back in front of the work bench with all your chemical resources still un-used but with the achievement tracker progress still increasing.

So in short it goes like this

Find a crafting bench
Quick save
Clean guns
Back out of crafting bench
Quick load
Repeat the above

Here is a clip for example

You can earn this naturally if you would like but I thought I would post this for those who just want it out of the way toast

This also works for:

I am trying to achieve this using the workbench in Two Colonels but it does not seem to count against the achievement. Have been cleaning flamethrower but progress won't change.

I did this in the main campaign before the Two Colonels released.
As far as I’m aware. Any achievements outside of the DLC don’t track (Correct me if I’m wrong). Best way to do it is too find a bench in the VOLGA level.
Even if you are playing on NG+ mode you can put a modifier on that makes the weather conditions more harsh meaning the guns will degrade faster.

The higher the difficulty the more expensive cleaning weapons is, so if you're grinding this turn the difficulty up to hardcore.

Not that it changes much as Hardcore is still good enough.
Though Ranger Hardcore does work and you can force saves still.
I just done the second level. Can’t remember what it was called. Ran to the hut by the irradiated base just south of the train. Slept inside and since there’s a Workbench there. Boom. Checkpoint. Jumped in the water a couple of times before hand with all 3 weapons and spammed 120 a load

I can confirm that you can also get this in the DLC despite what the first replyer said..

In this video guide I will show you a quick and easy way to spend 500 chemical resources on cleaning weapons. Now this can be done at anytime in the game, all you need is some chemicals and ammo. If you have full ammo or if not buy until the ammo is full. Then go outside and waste it all. Then go back to the workbench and make a quick save. Then go clean all your weapons then reload the quick load. Just repeat this until the achievement pops. Should take about 40 minutes if starting from scratch.

You can visibly see your weapons becoming dirtier, which happens by falling in water, walking in sandstorms and firing your weapon. A dirty weapon will clog up, have stoppages and misfire so you do have to keep them clean. You can only clean them at a workbench by using chemicals you've found and holding whilst the weapon is on the screen.

Your best bet is the grind this out by doing the following:

Step 1 - Dirty your weapon, dive into water over and over.
Step 2 - Collect as much chemical resources you can
Step 3 - Find a workbench
Step 4 - Quick save
Step 5 - Clean all 3 equipped weapons
Step 6 - Reload the quick save
Step 7 - Rinse and repeat

If for some reason you need to grind out this achievement, get all 3 weapons dirty, find a workbench, quicksave, clean, quickload, repeat.
Higher difficulties require more chemicals per clean so if you're on reader bump it up to Hardcore at the benches to spend more chems.
Sometimes it decides to stop counting them. If this is the case just move forward until your next autosave, and then reload the quicksave. Should fix the counter.

In Metro: Exodus, weapons degrade as they are used by becoming dirty, and this affects their performance. You can typically see the cleanliness of your weapons as the visual of them changes: if it's full of mud, it needs to be cleaned. To clean a weapon you need to get to a workbench. These can be found everywhere throughout each level. Once at one, go to your weapons, then the top option above the attachments is a bar that shows your cleanliness and you can the hold to spend chemical resources to clean it. If a weapon's cleanliness meter is empty, it will cost 10 resources to clean. Bearing this in mind, you can imagine that 500 is a lot to have to spend on cleaning them.

It's highly unlikely you will have unlocked this after a playthrough so the best method is to grind it out. To do this you will first need to acquire at least 30 chemical resources, find a workbench and then use your weapons until they are all dirty. Once they are all dirty, head to the workbench and make a quick save via the pause menu. Then open the workbench and clean your weapons. The dirtier they are, the more resources you can spend at a time. Once you have done this, reload your quick save and repeat cleaning them. Do this as many times as you need for the achievement. The achievement will track progress to this even after you reload your save.

Easy way:
Manual save in front of a craft table. Be sure you have lot of chemical resources and dirty gun(s). You get them dirty walking in mud, water...
Then just clear them. Reload last save and repeat until you get the trophy.

The difficulty level of the game affects the required amount of resources for cleaning weapons.
For example, a completely broken machine gun on the “reader” difficulty can be repaired with 7 units of chemistry, and on the “Hardcore” difficulty it is already repaired with 27 units. Therefore, before cleaning, you can cut it in the settings (settings - game - difficulty level) Hardcore and it’s a good idea to speed up the process of getting the trophy. You cannot switch the difficulty on Ranger Hardcore difficulty.
To quickly ruin a weapon, you need to dirty it in every possible way. Jump through puddles with it, plunge headlong into the water (this is the most effective, but sea monsters can drag you to the bottom), kill monsters point-blank so that scraps, mucus, etc. fly at you. A good indicator of your activity will be the effect of dirt on the screen).

You achieve contamination of all weapons, go to the workbench, save, set the difficulty to hardcore, then clean the weapon and load, and so on until it drops out. Accumulator trophy

If you play through the game purely using a stealth gun of medium difficulty, I spent 150-200 units. So if not on hardcore, then the trophy will last a long time.

at level 3 of the wolf on lock you can collect 500 of this chemical. We go to the workbench where there is a river nearby. We dip into the water 2 times and one weapon is completely dirty. Then 4 more for the others. As a result, you have three weapons completely dirty. Let's go to the workbench, clean it and start again. Just don't dive often, otherwise you'll die. When cleaning, set it to hard so that cleaning is more expensive. Cumulative trophy, you can collect at least 100 chemicals, use it and load the save.

Everything is as written above, you can find a workbench next to the water, make a save, select a weapon, jump into the water, select the second one, jump and go clean both.
In my experience:
1) if you jump with one weapon 2 times, it will not get more dirty
2) only the weapon with which you jump into the water gets dirty
3) if you jump 3 times, then on the third time Artyom will die
I did it at the Volga level, there is a workbench right next to the water, below is the video for clarity.

This was the only trophy I had until platinum. The problem was this:

1. I completed the game in normal mode for the first time, I played carefully, so I didn’t spend much on cleaning the weapon - “it didn’t fall out, well, okay, it will fall out a second time,” I thought.
2. the second time I went straight through in “iron mode” and tried to get dirty as much as possible (you can’t really swim in the river with this mode, because you drowned a couple of times and had to start the chapter all over again), I also used the method with changing difficulty - there is no trophy.

wow, the question arose, “which chapter should I download now to quickly knock it out?” Moreover, the previous preservation from the iron regime did not give freedom of action.

This super-simple method came to the rescue:
1. load the chapter "Volga"
2. immediately run to that workbench on the map, there will be a puddle next to it
3. we jump in a puddle, simultaneously changing each weapon, thus polluting it
4. We approach the workbench (change it to hardcore difficulty) and see that we have “zero” resources - it doesn’t matter - we disassemble everything that can be disassembled in our backpack for parts
5. if you did not ignore cleaning in previous playthroughs, then the trophy will fall out immediately, after cleaning two guns.
