How to unlock the Kshatriya achievement in Metro: Last Light Redux - Definitive Guide
Although personally when I did this mission I played much safer than the person who made the speedrun and at multiple sections
- Only use the "ashot" which uses incendiary shells. It kills the mutants in 1 hit. Sell other guns and ammo.
- Return to the base to save regularly ideally after opening up a short cut or finding 5 items (max you can hold).
- Loot everything including the mutants themselves.
- Pick up the light bulbs at the base to permanently light up routes.
- Save 200 currency to buy the suit which extends the efficiency of air filters.
- When returning to the base after venturing outside pressing the switch usually spawns some mutants. Be prepared for this.
- Purchase filters on each return to the base. Keep at least 10 mins worth on each venture.
- To find the map you must reach the archive room which follows almost exactly the same route found in Metro 2033s "library" and "archives" level.
- Lastly you can avoid all combat with the librarians by crouch walking. However the final librarian will always wake up. You can sprint past it to the ladder behind him, then enter the final room on the left. If you get spotted you can try staring at the librarian until it goes away. After finding the map return to the base via a shortcut opposite the map room to finish the level (this item marks the end of the mission). Save your game by entering the room at the back.
I did this level so well, playing on survival. I took my time, slowly upgrading my loadout, exploring and collecting all the trinkets. Snuck into the library and killed the demon, made it past the librarians, taking my time not to try aggro them. After an hour I finally made it to the sewers beneath the archives and crawled towards the final sleeping librarian... Then he magically woke up and starting smacking me so I ran into the next room, and desperately tried to clamber onto the ladder but Artyom decided to not grab on since when he looked at his hands - they were made of melted butter and thus I couldn't climb up and died to getting whacked in the ass. And I had no idea how to save throughout the whole level so it reset me right at the beginning
So my next attempt I sprinted through the whole thing in less than 5 minutes, grabbed the map and that was it. Bloody stupid.
It's the best video guide by a mile with good tips, especially showing alternate locations for the artefacts, some of which have a couple of spawn points.
On the good part,
You can complete the level in 5 minutes with almost no actual fight.
How to speedrun it:
There is a really quick way to finish this level and get the trophy, credit to BlackDevil990 for the video:
In this mission, you will assume the role of a Stalker Trainee from Polis. Unlike most Campaign or DLC missions, where you are traveling from point A to B, the Kshatriya mission emulates the act of Stalking - venturing up to the surface of Moscow to retrieve artifacts of the old world. When the mission begins, you will find yourself in the base of operations. Here, you can interact with Kuzmich, the team's weapons and equipment dealer and Shaman, the artifacts collector. Shaman will instruct the player to venture to the surface, retrieve thirty artifacts and hand them over in exchange for varying levels of MGR ammo.
After the meeting, you can venture out of the base, past the airlock, and into the sewers that connect with the surface. Before leaving the airlock however, Bar and Su, twin Stalkers, will be introduced. At times throughout your journey to the surface, they provide help in combat and tips on how to survive the level, though take note this only happens once or twice. After meeting the twins, the player is left to their own devices to explore the slowly opening world of Kshatriya.
While the level may seem small to begin with, certain parts of Kshatriya must be unlocked by exploration to proceed further into. The sewers, seemingly a hallway or two, rapidly becomes a crossroads leading to various parts of the surface and the Great Library. Checkpoints are determined by the player, rather than given at random intervals, or when the player acesses new areas. To initiate a new save, the player must return to the Stalker base and use the door located to the right of Kuzmich's wares to enter Polis station.
Fortunately, you don't actually have to collect all thirty artifacts; although they will help net MGR to buy resources and a hazmat/armored suit. Kshatriya will officially be completed after retrieving the secret metro map in the depths of the library's archives - which are infested with Librarians - and returning it to Shaman. Take note that once you reach the Great Library, the level design is almost identical to the levels "Depository" and "Archives" from Metro 2033, so if you played that game, you should feel comfortable navigating the library.
Overall, this mission can prove to be very difficult, but if you follow the tips below, you should have no problem completing the mission.
- Mutant corpses will contain small amounts of MGR ammo when looted
- The other lootable sources will contain small amounts of standard ammo
- Keep in mind that you can only carry five artifacts at a time
- Maintain a good stock of filters, though take note that filters increase in price each time you buy one
- Save up 200 MRG for the Hazmat Suit, it'll help sustain the duration of the gas mask's filters
- Save up for a Shambler; it's the best weapon in this mission given the new incendiary rounds
- There is no detailed guide for the location of artifacts, as they are completely randomized
- A list of all thirty artifacts can be found on Shaman's light-up board in the Stalker base
- Each artifact emits a dim glow so they are generally pretty easy to spot
- Each time you leave the Stalker base, make sure to grab the lightbulbs out of the basket in the airlock
- Place lightbulbs in the electrical sockets found throughout the level; they will remain lit indefinitely
- Return to the Stalker base and save often!!!
Again, once you return the secret metro map to Shaman, head over to the "save door," interact with it, and the mission will end, in turn unlocking the achievement.
