How to unlock the Arachnophobia achievement in Metro Last Light - Definitive Guide

This gave me a lot of trouble. After going through the level three times, carefully burning, and keep burning all the spiders in my path, I decided to try something different on my 4th run.

Instead of burning as you go, WAIT until you reach the end of the level. Use the shotgun, out run the spiders and collect as many gas units as you can (don't forget to look up, some are up high on shelves). I had 600 units total at the last checkpoint. Once you turn on the power and turn the switch to open the door at the top the of missile is where you get the checkpoint. Hit the lever on the blue-lit console and STAY IN THAT ROOM. Find yourself a nice corner and start burning. If you go out to the missile, the burning spiders will drop down to the level below and won't count. As far as I can tell, the only spiders that count are the one's that explode into flames. The spiders ARE NOT unending, they will stop after a while, but it should be enough to get the achievement. If you don't get it, simply reload the checkpoint. Now you don't have to replay the level.

TL;DR version: Wait until the last checkpoint before using any gas. Hit the switch for the elevator, stay in the room, turn off the headlamp and burn away. If you don't get the achievement, reload checkpoint.

great guide for this cheevo, just one thing tho i counted out (as best i could) the spiders that appear once you pull the lever on the blue lit console, there are only roughly 15 before they stop spawning which is mostly enough to get the cheevo but need to burn at least a couple in other places, when you first use the elevator 3-4 spiders will spawn if you stay in the elevator with your headlamp off you can get these spiders very easily also when you open the doors to access the blue lit console room, 3 spiders spawn then and are easy to burn, again make sure your lamp is off as not to steal your FT kills with light

i think the spider looking ones are tougher than the scorpion looking ones, the scorpions burn really easy but the spiders go out and it seems like there are alot more of them because of this, but its really the same spider being burnt twice..

Oh and since you can't be damaged using the method I posted, might as well turn off your flashlight so it doesn't steal your flamethrower-counted kill.

The only problem with getting the "free" spiders is that you waste alot of your filter "time"

Are you playing on normal or hardcore? I honestly don't remember filters being an issue at all. The game takes the difficulty from whatever you're playing the main story on. That said, I recommend doing this achievement on the normal difficulty.

I think I'm on easy....trying to write a guide at the same time, lol, if I'm not on the easiest level, I'm going to be so pissed, lol, because I am darn sure I was still on easy when I beat the game...

Update: Yep, I'm on easy, maybe just not doing this fast enough...went through this level at least 4 times and I always find 8 mins of filter time before I even open the door...

Now if you had a guide for "Homo Homini Lupus Est", that would be awesome!!

I've never had that happen. I recently replayed the level on redux and ran through it just fine. It's pneumatic - maybe pump it up some more? It not, you might have to restart the level. It goes pretty quick once you know the path.

Only female spiders killed this way count. You can identify a female spider by its lack of tail, and a rounder body. Also, in at least two areas, you'll find rounded rooms with holes along the walls. In these certain areas, the spiders that come out of the walls and STAY on the walls until they enter another hole, spawn indefinitely. They will often loop the room from one hole to another, and for some reason, these female "walls-only" spiders take significantly less damage to kill. After a second or two of frying, they will die, instead of taking ages to go through the burn damage stages like the other spiders. The room I used was in/near the end silo, where the walls-only spiders couldn't reach to damage me if I was away from the wall long enough. I just waited at one of the holes and didn't take long to memorise the three different AI path patterns, ready for me to burn them quick enough that I didn't have to waste multiple air filters.

Plus one from me!! Just got it!!! I found a room I somehow passed by before that had some filters and fuel (Has hanging cans in the doorway), then got to that blue-lit console room and stayed there with my light off and just bursting enough to set them on fire.....soon as the achievement popped, I hauled butt to the elevator!!!

Easy way to do this.

Only female spiders count. These are the ones without the tail; thy have round bodies no tail and are harder to burn.

Use shotgun for males, flamethrower for females.

There is a section while climbing silo, just after you flick a switch to lower gates but have to burn webs to lower gates, you can kill 4-5 females easy here. Climb ladder to next section where females don't engage you but are on the walls. They only require a short burst from flamethrower to die unlike when they agro you.

This is before the room you can enter where you jump over a fallen cabinet.

This one is trickier than it sounds. You have to burn them with the flame thrower - toast them until they are black as a marshmallow over a campfire - or else you may accidentally finish them off with your headlight. I burned a ton of them without the cheevo popping, then I started to very thoroughly roasting them and it finally popped.

Also, if you don't get it, once you reach the end there will be an unending swarm of them. They will continuously swarm until you step into the elevator. This is your chance to smoke the remainder if you missed any.

To make sure that you have plenty of fuel enough to kill 20 spiders, be sure to scavenge thoroughly for white plastic jugs and white gas cans that contain fuel. Combining the Flame Thrower and your headlamp seems to be the quickest way of killing them though it does also cause them to run away from you. All 20 spiders must be killed on one playthrough.

Apparently, only the spiders with a round abdomen count toward the achievement. The ones with the spiked tails similar to a scorpion’s do not count, so don’t waste fuel on them. The best strategy is to simply keep gathering fuel and not use the flame thrower at all until the ending sequence of the level when you are waiting for the escape elevator to arrive. You will only be attacked by spiders with round abdomens, and they constantly re-spawn, so there will be no shortage of them to kill. Get 20 kills here before leaving and the achievement is yours. But be careful to stay away from the door of the elevator once it arrives as getting close will trigger the escape animation, ending the level.

After many runs through this location, I earned it in the final fight. Where you call the elevator to the surface. I collected fuel until this time. As I understand it, you need to destroy 20 spiders in a row, in the finale such an opportunity will come. Burn through the entire web in a circle so that it doesn’t interfere with running and charge. That's it.
