How to unlock the Redemption achievement in Metro Last Light - Definitive Guide

This is the Redemption achievement. You receive it for getting the best ending in the game. As you play you will get white flashes that are accompanied by an audio cue that sounds like dripping water.

You should try to do these achievements during this playthrough:
Clean Escape
Invisible Savior
Patron of the Arts
Invisible Soldier
Commando
Forest Guardian
Savior
Freedom!
Invisible Intruder
Mouse
Reunion
Forgotten
Rain Man
Back to the Past

Each of these level specific achievements will get you a positive flash. You can also get them by listening to conversations, giving bullets to beggars and by exploring. Basically play as passive and like a nice guy. There is no way to tell if you are going to get this until the very end of the game. Also, do not kill
.

I unlocked this achievement on ranger hardcore and you can watch the entire video below, or go to the watch page which has timestamps of the chapters in the description.

Sashamorning added this link: http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Moral_Points

it shows every moral point in Metro 2033 and Last Light. Spoiler warning.

So do you have to get all the flashes? or just get more good than bad points

You can miss this ending by the barest of margins, even if you're playing non-lethal. You should know the ending you're getting by the end of Polis station (the level immediately before the last battle). If your companion tells you "I'll ask for their help" then you're all good, if he just tells you "You're good" or something along those lines, then you've missed something along the way :(

Yeah, he ended up saying "I'll ask for their help" and i got this ending; thanks for the tip! Also, I am pretty sure that part in Bandit that forced me to kill someone made me not get Shadow Ranger. I have no clue how else to do that part without killing that guy...but I did not get the achievement. Not sure if that was a glitch where I couldnt untie the guy or what.

Yes it is possible to complete the entire bandits level non-lethal. You must knock everyone out in that area before you can do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBXuuqpOntM

I have updated the solution with a video of a playthrough I made which ends with the Redemption ending.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get Shadow Ranger if you kill people on the chase level before jumping onto the train? I'm out of medkits and stuck at the checkpoint right before jumping on the train and I die every time at the moment he decides to jump if I avoid killing them.

Don't kill anybody in the train, stay down, jump in and press x for every one....in the garden level run and run until the big door is open and shoot only Stravinsky...in the final level shoot the train and the last big one with fire...

I would HIGHLY recommend linking to this page for the moral points in the game: http://metrovideogame.wikia.com/wiki/Moral_Points

It gives a list of where most of them are. I also did not get them all, but better safe than sorry, right? toast

I followed the Wiki Moral points, got maybe 90% of them also got my Soldier achievement in the same, play-trough as Redemption, I killed quite a few more than the 100, but what I didn't do was kill people on the chapters where the wiki guide makes note that you shouldn't kill for good points. I don't think individual kills affect it at all, unless there is an overall moral gain/loss for that chapter. If you did Shadow Ranger and redemption on your fist playthrough, you would probably only need to do half of a second play-through for the alternative achievements.

This guide is great for seeing most of what the game has to offer but most is unnecessary. Don't kill Pavel, Lesnisky or any surrendering foes. As for mutants, if you don't have to kill it, don't. Win the teddy bear from the firing range in Venice and return it to the crying boy across from the range stairs. Remove your mask when Lesnisky tells you to. I'm not sure how important the random room flashes, I.E. look at a body, strum an instrument are in this achievement. I've been thru the game saving D6 8 times, every time doing less. The game works a lot like life...... Don't be a dick.

Nevermind I already got the answer.

You can restart chapter if needed and still keep your karma from previous missions. Restarting shouldn't void the Redemption ending.

Sorry for double post.

I would start a new game.

With regards to checkpoints; It is OK to reload checkpoint but remember to re-do everything again if you do. It's easy to forget to re-do something on a game like this when you load a checkpoint

Sorry man but there is no answer anywhere to find out how to knock out Lesnitsky instead of killing him. I could try to do it myself, but as soon as you have made your decision it autosaves and you can't re-load to redo it again.

I attempted this achievement twice and the second time I concentrated on nothing but this achievement and I did not have any luck. It's going to be hard to commit to keep playing since Destiny 2 is about to come out. I'm only missing this 100-point achievement for the Xbox 360 version. Do I dare go through it again? And I got every Point mentioned in the wiki guide.

In the Bandit level, do u know if its possible to get around the area before you smash through the trap without a fight? I cant seem to untie the prisoner without knocking everyone out, then there is always one guy in a cart that you cant get up to...so the only way to get him is to kill him. Is that kill unavoidable? I hope it doesnt mess with this achievement, and the one for not killing anyone

Anyone know how the chapter select works on this game when going for the good ending? I have gotten all the white flashes until end of Echoes level and now Pavel has glitched on me and I can't continue the mission. Reloading last checkpoint doesn't help. If I go to chapter select and start Echoes again, does it still count my good karma from all the previous levels or do I have to start all over again?

" I replayed quite a few chapters "
If you mean you replayed chapters and didn't link them right till the end - the game doesn't work like that, although no one makes that clear (the 43 diary notes is possibly the one exception). The chapters' starting save states are from whatever you'd done till that point during your previous playthrough.
It is the one really annoying flaw they didn't fix from 2033's many flaws (this sequel is twice as good - 7 or 8/10).
Without being able to replay chapters and having no stats screen the achievements for this fun game are horrible. You won't get this achi or many others just by soldiering through, even if you're diligent and OCD. It's unfair that you need to use guides to get a good ending. I sat around listening to loads of conversations and tried to explore everywhere, but I got nothing for it - I killed lots of people, but I thought I was a soldier.
I would've actually saved Pavel, but I didn't even get an option to.

Well I wasn't expecting this to unlock.

Just finished my first run-through (Hardcore mode) and it unlocked. I killed everyone at the end of Red Square (saved Pavel on the cutscene after shooting him 3 times on the stairs). This cost me my Shadow Ranger cheevo but after all my hardwork to this point, I just couldn't bare trying over and over to do this last bit non-lethal. I blew up the tank on D6. I shot the oncoming Reds holding shields but tried not to kill (unsure whether I killed them or my comrades took them down.Minigun seemed to make a mess and I didn't think I would get it by this point so thought what the hey)
Pop. Unlock. One surprised me. I didn't check a guide but after 100%'ing the last game I just took it slow and played mr nice guy.All other human enemy I knocked out. Even the chase/train sections. Also, not sure if it mattered but I avoided shooting mutants towards the end when the Dark One tried to put me on a guilt trip.Seemed to have paid off. I guess it's just a points system of good/bad?

Redemption is a lot easier than I think most people suspect, judging from my own experience now that I've earned it three times (360 and two Xbox One stacks). I am 99.9% certain that not all Moral Point opportunities are created equal. In my playthroughs on the Xbox One version stacks, I skipped a LOT of the odds-and-ends moral points. I did, however, get all the ones that I consider CRUCIAL, like not killing Pavel, removing my mask when Lesnitsky demands it, not killing any Watchmen on The Bridge level, etc.

Check out the video below for a full Survival playthrough of the game showing all collectibles and the Moral Points I obtained (I skipped a lot of them) in order to get the Published and Redemption achievements.

This is considered the "Good ending." You will need to dedicate an entire play through for this achievement. Throughout the game, you will be rewarded with "moral points" while making choices. Most of these choices are for doing certain achievements, finding special areas, or listening to conversations of NPCs. There's no real guide to follow, but just know the outcome of each choice you make during your play through. The following is some major points you'll need to earn the achievement:

  1. Listen to as many NPC convesations as possible.
  2. Listen to as many enemy converations as possible.
  3. Free the prisoners in the level "Pavel."
  4. Save all woman and children on "Bandits."
  5. Complete the shooting gallery in Venice to give the teddy back to the child.
  6. Spare Lesnitsky
  7. Do not kill any non-hostile creatures while with the Dark One.
  8. View all visions in the Dead City
  9. Spare Pavel.

Check out this link for more information on moral points.

Redemption is a lot easier than enlightenment from metro 2033 as its not anywhere near as critical to get ever moral point, and a big part of it hinges on a few easy and major decision in the game ala saving pavel, removing your mask to save Anna, etc.

Korbek made this excellent guide that I followed while playing the xbox one version, and it should apply to this version as well, it also includes a lot of the misc. achievements as well.

If
you do everything by video, then the achievement is yours.
I have verified it.
I’ll tell you in advance, before the last mission, when you’re on the subway with a black guy, he’ll say, “Then I’ll ask them to help.” If you didn't say it, it means there will be a bad ending.

You will receive the achievement even if you do not look at all the memories in the dead city and do not find cartridges in the quarantine chapter. Verified.

Tips for getting the good ending in Metro Last Light:

  • You cannot see the Morality System points, but the most obvious sign that you are doing the right thing will be a flash of white light.
  • Complete good deeds as much as possible and avoid bad deeds such as killing people, killing surrendered soldiers.
  • Throughout the campaign, there are choices and actions that lead to increased morale.
  • Other actions result in a decrease in morality points.
Actions to strengthen morality :

  • Spare surrendered soldiers
  • Save women and children
  • Listen to the stories NPCs tell
  • Listen to dialogue while loading
  • Play musical instruments
  • Give the beggars bullets
  • Do what the NPC asks you to do
  • Look for ammo caches in the Quarantine level
  • Complete the SEPARATION level without killing people
  • Complete the FACILITY level without killing people
  • Complete the Revolution level without killing people
  • Complete the Bridge level without killing people
  • Save children and women at the BANDIT level
  • Return the Teddy bear to the crying child in the Venice level
  • See all the visions in DEAD CITY
Actions that lower morality : At the moment we know of only 3 actions that make Artyom lose his moral character

  • Killing people
  • Killing surrendered soldiers
  • Theft in populated areas
