How to unlock the Walking Bank achievement in Metro Last Light - Definitive Guide
Easiest way to get this is on the Bandits level. After you've wiped all the bandits out (about 20-25) you can sell their guns to the market at the start of the level. Sure, it's a pain in the rear because you have to do a ton of walking. But I did it in about 45mins.
The trick is to only roll with your favorite weapon so you have two slots open as you collect their weapons. You must always have one weapon on hand, so you can only sell two weapons at a time.
I started the level with 120 rounds, by the end I had 1012 rounds and I know I left three or four weapons behind.
You can also sell ammo and grenades as there're quite a few littered around the place.

Exactly how I did it, given the amount of ammo and weapons on that level and an access to a trader in the same zone it is a place to get rich... so later on you can all blow it in Venice on lap dances :)

I'm just basically echoing what MattyJWest said.
Start up the BANDITS level and immediately change the difficulty to HARDCORE. Don't worry, you can change it back when you're finished. Go to the knife selling vendor on your left and talk to him. On hardcore difficulty, selling is 1 and buying is 0. So, keep pressing the X, A buttons a few times and keep going untill you reach 1000. Achievement will pop.
(Not possible anymore as of 22-07-13 with the lastest update. Still possible by clearing your system cache, and doing as the guide states. If you want a time stamp, get to 999 bullets and then go trigger a checkpoint later in the level. Then go download the update again, get 1 more bullet and Achievement will pop! Hope this helps!)

This is by far the easiest solution. Took me about 2 minutes to go from 200 to 1000

Relatively easy, although it unlocked late game. I did this without any of the weapon farming at "Bandits".
Some general tips for getting this:
-Never buy a gun at a store. They all cost too much.
-Pick up and replace a gun that you have if there is one that is more valuable. Keep an eye out for fully decked out guns (sight + silencer + misc, things like that). They are worth a good bit and great for selling.
-Sell all ammo that you aren't going to use, such as bolts if you never plan on using a Helsing. Same thing for grenades, throwing knifes and claymores.
-Scrounge around a lot for chests and hidden rounds. Just don't rush through the game without any exploration. You will come up short on rounds if you do.
-It is not needed, but it helps greatly if you have the Ranger DLC. You get a free 100 (200?) rounds at the beginning.
-The last store you can actually sell things to is in the mission "Depot". Although there is a store in the final mission, you can't actually sell anything to it. Everything is free.

Here is a video of the glitch mentioned by MattyJWest. It's very easy to do, just make sure you switch to hard core difficulty first.
This is really easy to get if your are patient on Mission 13 bandits. This level actually has a merchant that is accessible from start to finish of the level, he is near the camp right at the beginning. So what you want to do is go through the level and kill all the enemies {15-25}, then you can sell all of their weapons back to the merchant, and the weapons they drop are often pretty good pistols that sell for 30-60 military grade rounds. I never counted the exact amount myself, but I believe you can easily get over a 1000 rounds just on this level alone on the easier difficulties. Plus this makes any of the harder difficulties a lot easier since you should have enough military grade rounds to last you pretty much the rest of the game even if you use them frequently.
The following link shows a good way to make it through the level using sleath and also shows the merchant that I am talking about at the very beginning, starting at 53.21.
Its also my recommendation, that you clear out enemies until the area in the middle where you rescue the male hostage, collect the guns and sell them, then move to the next area, clear the enemies until the closed gate, collect the guns and sell them, and finally do the last area past the toxic sludge.
Two last tips, there is a shotgun at the very beginning if you backtrack a little bit, and your weapons shouldn't disappear, so feel free to drop the weapons you want to keep right at the beginning, that way you can grab more guns to sell at one time, although the game always forces you to keep one weapon.

Military rounds are the shinier bullets that you'll see around the Metro. These bullets are the currency throughout the game. They are scattered throughout, and can be found randomly. You can also sell any wares that you've collected and earn military rounds that way. You will need to collect 1,000 rounds at one time.

The achievement is easy to get at level: Bandits (you need to save women and children).
At the beginning of the mission we find ourselves at the refugees, there is a store there, we sell 2 unnecessary weapons (preferably 2 to speed up the sale). There will be bandits further along the paths, we destroy them. After their death, you can pick up their weapon (it just falls into the free 2 slots) and run/go to the regina to sell it. You will have to spend time running back and forth picking up/selling weapons, but I think this is the fastest way to get the required amount of 1000 army cartridges.

We just don’t spend money on guns, etc., and by the end of the game everyone should score accurately (GUNNS ARE ROLLING EVERYWHERE, OF ALL TYPES AND LEVELS)

In the "catacombs" chapter at the very beginning, in the church, there is a merchant. He buys knives for 1 cartridge and sells them for 0 I earned 1000 rounds of ammunition on it, and at the same time I knocked out the “businessman” achievement, and then with this 1000 rounds I completely upgraded the machine gun, so I also knocked out the “gunsmith” right there.
UPD: it seems that this is only relevant for hard mode.

- Before selling guns, set the difficulty to “Hardcore” - you will receive not 38 rounds per revolver, but 83.
This will allow you to learn the achievement even faster.
