How to unlock the Back-Up Plan achievement in Microsoft Flight Simulator - Definitive Guide

Just thought I'd add a guide for those on Xbox, it's essentially what meochan did.

Go to World Map, choose the airport and ramp that meochan recommends (Ramp 154 at CYYZ).
Before turning on the engine, I went into the assistance options, then under piloting, I turned off AI Radio Communications (as I'm terrible at this and need all the assistance options on most of the time).

After that, start the engine (instruction on screen), then press the left stick in and go to the ATC icon in the top ribbon (far left, the tower looking icon). That menu will open, scroll down to "Ground Services" then you'll find one called Request Pushback. Do so, then just get pushed (go to third-person view to watch where you go).

I just let my plane be pushed right out of the airport and onto the grass, through the trees and towards the houses. took maybe 5-10 mins to push me back a mile, then the achievement popped 10-20 seconds after requesting for the pushback to end.

100% can confirm that you can just taxi around by yourself AFTER requesting Pushback.

I requested, waited for to show all options for left, right, and stop, and then just released the parking brake and taxied around. Took barely a minute to go from 0-100%

not sure what took yours so long, above guide worked perfect, i started at 16% done, took around 12 minutes for it to pop.

I'm not sure if this is a glitch or not but I did as everyone above was saying. I asked for the service to stop so I could check the progress in the Xbox menu. Then I called to be pushed backwards again. The tower told me that nobody was available and I figured I was too far away so I just gave my plane 1/3 throttle to make my way back to the starting point and it was still tracking my achievement somehow and it popped. 🤷‍♂️

Start your flight on any gate/parking spot that has a tug service.
I used Ramp 154 on CYYZ for this achievement cuz there is no objects stopping a straight pushback behind the plane along the way.

Fire up your plane and request the pushback service. Turn up your sim rate which you need to assign individual keys to increase and decrease the sim rate.

Wait for the achievement to pops up within 60s depending on your sim rate.

Unfortunately, this didn't work for me. I didn't see any progress on the tracker from the 2% I already had. Another solution, for Deadstick Landing, also didn't work for me so I wonder if Microsoft has already pushed out a patch. For those wondering about increasing sim rate, see https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/flight-simulator-speed-up....

[Note: I didn't downvote this solution; that was someone else.]

Hi jrod39, I don't believe MS have the time to do something like this... But I do think there are multiple achievements could be bugged since I'm also stuck at other achievements. What I can give you is only the method that I used to get this achievement. BTW you do need to call radio for the push back instead of the shift+p option.

That's totally fair, Meochan913. I was just commenting that it didn't work for me, not criticizing the solution (which worked for you). I did use the ATC menu to call for pushback and even changed direction a few times just to see if that made a difference.

Just following up on this: I unlocked the achievement this morning after running through the checklists manually. When I had tried it before (twice), I had used Ctrl-E to start the engines and then called for pushback. This time, I completed the three pages and only called for pushback then. Going straight back from CYYZ ramp 154, I manually requested the end of pushback once I hit the houses, and the achievement popped after the second time I did this (I gained about 70% the first time so I knew it was working).

I can confirm that you must request to End Pushback or the progress does not count.

Works for me. You have to make sure you turn off co-pilot control and AI control of managing the radio comms or they will radio to stop the pushback after just a short distance. If you don't ask them to stop they will keep pushing you indefinitely. Also I was still being pushed when the achievement popped. Did not have to end pushback first.

Super buggy but I got it eventually. Get your A320neo started up and ready to taxi, and then create a save file. This will save you from multiple startup procedures. Make sure your parking brake is off. I figured out that you CAN push back with the brake on but it won't count. Still, sometimes it worked and sometimes not. Only managed to get less than 10% progress on each attempt, no matter what I tried. Most times I got zero progress. Totally not worth it. I hate being a completionist.

Are you doing this in world map or discovery flights?

You need to be more specific, what is a tug service and which mode are use using to do this?

Can't get achievement progress when simming on Series X. Neither when using pushback nor when using the other ground services for the other achievement.

Not sure if I got this via glitch or not. But here's what I did to unlock it in under 2 minutes. I was working on another achievement for ground services at LPMA airport at one of the large ramps using an A320neo. Last thing I did was request pushback service. I let the plane be pushed all the way back to the fence and then requested the pushback service end. Right after that I spooled up the engines and took off without clearance. As I was accelerating down the runway, this achievement unlocked. Autopilot was off, of course, as was the auto-ATC comms.

If someone can try and duplicate this and let me know if it works, that would be great. If not, I'll chalk it up to a lucky glitch and delete this solution.

Something similar happened to me. I crashed my plane and landed on terrain and drove for about 10 seconds through trees etc and it counted as 40% towards the achievement. Not sure exactly what the criteria is but there's definitely a weird glitch.

This achievement is so buggy, I was having problems getting anything else to work without letting it go at it's normal speed so I loaded up the airport you said, LPMA, and didn't have an option for a pushback service, I did the first ramp in the list, so I just decided to drive around and all the driving started counting towards the achievement, I had it being tracked, and by the time I got to the end of the runway it popped.

I was at the Toronto Airport doing the refuel achievement and figured I could request a pushback for a bit. I requested it, and it was denied. So I figured I might as well just go take off. I fired up the engines at started moving. I was previously at 10% and then within a few seconds, I saw the tracker just accelerate as I was moving and popped the achievement.

I did as you said, went somewhere that the pushback request would be denied, then went half power and went around 90knts across the ground and it popped within 20 seconds. From 5% to 100%
