How to unlock the Frequent Flyer Miles achievement in Microsoft Flight Simulator - Definitive Guide

**NEW SOLUTION**

This solution was originally written for PC and has not been tested on Series X/S - if anyone has suggestions or tweaks for the console version of FS2020, then I'd be happy to add here.

The original solution (left below for posterity) was based on how I unlocked this achievement. Following testing by NotTheBestAtAll and CrackedSeal3236, there are much faster, easier ways of completing this now. I've tried to incorporate their experiences into a new solution. Thank you to both of them for their comments below, and hopefully, this is a much simpler, faster solution for users:

Set yourself up to fly from LFBD to KSEA, using the low-altitude airways option (not the GPS option). Use the Cessna Citation CJ4 jet (or a turboprop plane if going for Saddle Sore as well) and unlimited fuel. All assists on. Start up the flight, and then hand over to the autopilot for take-off. After this you can either:

1. Leave the flight to run the full 8/9 hours and also unlock the Saddle Sore achievement.

2. Increase the sim rate to get the flight done under an hour (you cannot skip to a later point in the flight - it has to be done with sim rate).

Option 1 does work, but it's hit-or-miss - the autopilot seems to struggle with making the landing consistently. Jrod39 notes that they had to take over controls to make the landing as autopilot flew past, while in my experience the autopilot landed about half a mile away from the runway (although this popped the achievement). It might be worth coming back to make the landing yourself to be sure.

With option two, you need to come out of AI copilot control, then press R to activate sim rate, then Ctrl & + on your number pad to increase speed. You can hand it back over to the AI copilot then for most of the flight, although in my testing you'll either need to come back after 45 minutes and drop the sim rate back down with Ctrl & -, or you'll need to make the landing yourself. The AI seems to really struggle at the higher speed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OLD SOLUTION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This can be done MOSTLY with AI co-pilot, if you don't fancy sitting in for the long haul. Skipping ahead on the flight plan didn't seem to work for me, so this took 9-10 hours of the game running to unlock.

I picked the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental, filled it with fuel and minimal payload, set everything to easy and unlimited fuel, with a low-altitude airspace flight plan (I tried the GPS/VOR one and the AI stuck me in a mountain after 5 hours) - going gate-to-gate. I also picked clear skies and disabled the online features so I didn't end up hitting other planes etc.

Once you load in, let the AI take over. They don't seem to fly that efficiently (I'm a newbie to sims so I don't really understand this yet), so I had to come back every 4 hours to top up the fuel (from the payload menu at the top of the screen). Just ran it in the morning while I did some housework and it popped while I was watching TV on Xbox by the afternoon. Somehow, the AI still managed to stick the plane into the side of a building - but hey, I got the pop. So I'm assuming runway-to-runway would be enough.

It's REALLY important to come back and refuel the plane in the menu - I had two failed flights initially as unlimited didn't mean your fuel stays full - it just means you can top up whenever you want.

I flew the Darkstar with unlimited fuel, did it in 1 hour 13 minutes. I had to keep going back and forth to stay on the navigation line, start your turn in the other direction the second you get near it. It wasn't hard, just annoying. The hardest part is having it decide you can go Mach3, which happens manually. Make sure you do the challenge to learn how to go Mach 9 as easily as the game will allow. Get to 50,000, invert to a 20 degree dive, roll upright and pull up to 20 degrees positive climb. Repeat until Mach 3. Activate the fuel pump (square button just right of center bottom of the console, then flick the switch for the scramjets. Pull up to 120-150,000ft and cruise. Kill the scramjets 100mi out and descend to 30,000, and then approach and land as usual, keeping your airspeed over 160mph so you don't stall

There seems to be lots of bugs flying exterior, so avoid it.

I'm not sure sorry. I did it in one "sitting" without saving - just running on PC with the screen off.

I've tried this twice the last 2 days with the AI flying for me. Both times it did awful landing, crashed the plane, and didn't get me the achievement

Thanks a lot for confirming NotTheBestAtAll. That's super helpful - at least people won't have to leave it on for several long, failed attempts that way like I did! I'll update the solution.

how do you refuel mid flight?
0
0
By AXIOMS OF FATE on 22 Aug 2020 13:35
If you have unlimited fuel enabled, you can refuel by clicking the Payload (like an anvil icon) option at the top of the screen, then moving the slider back along to 100%.

If you use the cessna cj4 jet you don't even need to refuel. It also unlocked the Saddle Sore achievement. Not sure if the second one will unlock if using the increased sim rate.

Soupabuoy, I just used the first new solution to get this achievement. The autopilot completely botched the initial landing (it flew over KSEA at about 6,000 feet and that marked the objective as complete!) and so I took control, reduced altitude, and then returned control to the autopilot. It did the second landing as smooth as silk. Just wanted to let you know that the solution is now proven! :)

Thanks Jrod! The autopilot certainly seems erratic for this one - I just left it to do a different 9-hour flight and it was absolutely fine, but it seems to have real issues with LFBD->KSEA. I'll make a note that landing might require some manual tweaking.

Hey Tostie - yeah I think it does have to be in one flight as I had a couple of problems with the Airbus and I tried to do two stints and it didn't work for me either.

By autopilot, I mean the autopilot that you can pick from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen with your mouse. You can't increase the sim rate while it's in control, but you can take control, turn the sim rate up, and then hand control back over - which is what I did. I'll be completely honest and say I didn't realise there were two different options - I still have a lot to learn!

at home it's bug... I put the autopilot, I can see the direction of the GPS, but this asshole goes south !! XD I have 3 tries, it's very strange. And there he just took a mountain in automatic !?! I don't understand anything anymore...
I will have to do it manually, with accelerated speed..

edit : I arrived in front of the airport with the Airbus A320neo, 3000 feet, 230 knots, 2 hours of games in front of my screen to juggle with the simulator accelerator... then the game crashed... shock angry
However I have a nice config, 3700X, 5700XT AE and 32giga of DDR4... But a lot of problems, it becomes hard there to chase achievements on this game X(

So the game crashed to desktop after about 11 hours when I was 1hr from landing....

So I've attempted it again and this time it crashed as i was on approach, approx 3mins from landing. The game has crashed numerous times upon landing, its infuriating.... as it has not logged around 30 hours of flight time according to the pilot log so will take longer to unlock the 500/1000 hour achievements

Now trying for attempt no 3...

Update: On the 3rd attempt, managed to take the Cessna CJ4 from LFBD to KSEA mostly in real time, I fast forwarded the last 2 hours at 4x with the AP (not AI) on and performed a manual landing. The Saddle Sore & Frequent Flyer Miles achievements unlocked as soon as I got onto a taxiway. Relieved the game didnt crash or I probably would have given up on this achievement for a while.

Hope this helps others who are trying to do these achievements

Fuel is actually unlimited when you turn on Unlimited Fuel. You just can't mess with it. If you change it, it basically cancels the unlimited fuel. If you leave it alone at the 50% it starts at, it will stay at 50% forever.

I'm following this guide right now, but the AI pilot really can't fly a plane straight, constantly rolling left/right. Also ITT master warning is on pretty much the whole time, at an airspeed of 400 kts. What a tosser!

UPDATE: after the AI copilot turned the plane south a couple times, I switched back to AP. It's not that hard, just use NAV mode and ALT hold. VS mode when having to change altitude.

UPDATE 2: app crashed to desktop on the last leg / approach to KSEA. Attempting it a 2nd time now post recent update, let the AP (not AI!) fly throughout night and manually landed the plane in the morning without any crashes. Frame rate really dropped to unplayable levels at KSEA though so it was a bit nerve wrecking... both achievements unlocked!

First attempt... co pilot flew in to a mountain.
Second attempt... co pilot landed in residential area a few miles north of the runway.
Third time lucky in the King Air 350i. Co pilot was looking sketchy on final so I took control and landed myself.

Is Auto-Pilot and AI Piloting the same?
0
0
By iTz Wheezey on 03 Aug 2021 10:55
Slightly different - Auto-pilot is the on-aircraft autopilot, but the solution above is written with the AI Pilot in mind. I probably need to re-run this as they've made updates to the AI Pilot over time, so if anyone does have issues, let me know and I'll try to find a fix.

I'm not finding a way to speed up the time, I can only jump to a later point of the flight on the console version. That hadn't seemed to work yet, and my console has created a few times trying to do the whole flight.

Oh yeah I forgot that the console players would be coming looking for a solution. I don't have a Series X/S to test out on, unfortunately - but I will note that this was tested on PC.

The setting for speeding up on PC is called "increase sim rate", but it taxes the CPU so it might not be on console at all?

By SoupaBuoy on 04 Aug 2021 08:36
I don’t think “sim rate” is on Series X/S at all, so it looks like us console users are gunna be in for the long haul for this achievement. Shame we won’t be able to use the quick resume feature to play other games while the game is running in the background as doing so will just pause the game.

By DE4N MUFC on 04 Aug 2021 11:06
There's a distinct possibility that the requirements have adjusted in some way since I wrote the original solution, perhaps to do with a need to taxi or land manually or something? I might try another run at it myself with an alt account to see what happens. People are still unlocking it, but I don't know if they're doing it "legit".

@iTz Wheezey - Thanks I’ll give that a try when I next play the game. If it doesn’t help unlock the achievement then I’m not sure option 1 is worth doing, I tried it and left the game running while the controller was connected but the game pauses after being idle for so long and there’s no way I’m sitting the whole 8/9 hours for 20GS. While I’m here do you know how to unlock the weekly activity achievement? There is nothing to let us know how to do them.

I have now almost completed this 3 times, and the console crashed every time. Once I even made it to the descent into Seattle.

By Sashamorning on 08 Aug 2021 22:19
This cannot be done on Xbox right now in SU5 without speeding the sim up 32x. Xbox will ctd every time between 7-9 hours flight time. Long haul flights are broken at the moment. Like, gamebreakingly broken. Flights over 8-9 hours are nearly impossible to complete without saving to resume after the coming ctd, but then it doesn’t count as a complete flight.

Just got it on the second try on a Series X. It crashed on the 9-ish hour the first time. I turned it off, and tried the next day before going to sleep. I got up, checked it litteraly 30 seconds before it crashed on some mountains, saved the day and kept and eye on it while working before manually landing it. It took something like 12 hours.

So if I am reading all these comments and understanding them correctly, the only real hope currently for us Series X/S users is to let autopilot take it basically all night (maybe check in on it in the middle of the night and be sure its still ok) then set an alarm for about a half hour before landing and do it manually?

SU5 disabled the achievement with sim rate also???

You can save flights. Or do you mean, you can't save flights or it invalidates the achievement progress? To save a flight, just press the menu button to pause and then the view button to bring up the Save/Load menu.

Finally got this after dozens of attempts.

I chose the Eurofighter (unlimited fuel, no damage), and relied on low-altitude airways for most of the trip. During several segments I controlled the aircraft manually to get over Mach 2 and gain some time.

The IA wasn´t going to stick the landing, so I had to switch to manual at the last moment. Beware.

Few things I did:

Cessna CJ4 + unlimited fuel. Started on the runway. Basically had the AI fly 95% of the way. Used a wired Xbox controller (NOT a wireless controller plugged in). Used the cap from a two liter bottle to keep the camera moving. Took about 14 hours. Achievement popped as soon as I touched down in Seattle.

We could really do with an updated guide, ideally by someone who completed more recently and explains more around the AI/AP/Sim rate.
My experience with the sim rate is I had no idea if the NAV was actually working and the VS and altitude constantly yo-yo’d ignoring my set altitude or VS in the cockpit

Thanks for the tips.
Edit: Unlocked! If you want to update your existing guide with this for visibility by all means.

Setting up:
- Assistance: All assists on (we will tweak in game)
- Select World map
- Cessna CJ4
- Departure LFBD
- Arrival KSEA
- IFR Low altitude route

On the runway:
- Set up AP:

- In the flight assistant overlay, ensure the following settings

- Manually take off (including putting landing gear away)
- Press Y on controller to activate AP.
- Use your custom Sim rate binding to increase it, slowly at first (I used RB + Up/Down on D-Pad as suggested in earlier comments)

Whilst flying:
- When the NAV isn't straight, mostly early on (the purple line in the VFR map), lower the SIM rate a bit, otherwise the SIM/AP can't cope and goes quite wide - it should eventually return but for safety I lowered it anyway, then increase to max on the straights
- Keep an ear out for the ATC guy requesting elevation changes: lower sim rate, go into cockpit and adjust the Altitude and VS / VS speed settings accordingly, then resume high sim rate
- Generally keep throttle around 70% to avoid overspeed narrator annoying you

Landing:
- As you get 100-150KM away from KSEA, start to pay more attention, adjusting Sim rate up and down as you feel comfortable.
- Again, pay attention to the ATC as they will be instructing you to decrease elevation in sections. I used 500-3000 negative VS
- The AP will initially do long sort of circles whilst you are descending, this is fine
- When you get somewhere between 3000-6000ft, you should be thinking about turning off AP and making your way to land manually.
- Hopefully you'll have had plenty of practice by now (if not, I'd recommend doing the landing challenges first)
- Landing speed for CJ4 is about 110-140 kts, flaps max
- Achievement popped the minute my back wheels hit the runway (it was a very dodgy landing)

Good luck!

KGI KlikoNL increasing the sim rate means the game time runs faster than real time. So you cane make the 8 hour flight much shorter real time.

It is very hard to fly, my problem is is that I stopped to be able to control it and it dove for the ground. The behavior wasn’t “I am an experimental aircraft going really really fast” It was “oh a bug” right. I had the exact same idea, but haven’t been able to get very far with it yet. It’ll be great if someone who does succeed in doing it could put up a video

I did practice the landing and nailed it every time

I flew it in the Darkstar and did not get the achievment. Plan to try again.
The Darkstar is unstable as hell but you get it off the ground and past 60,000 feet it stabalizes. I bet its accurate. SR-71 pilots say the Blackbird was the same. I hit 240,000ft @ Mach9.7 and still landed in the Darkstar.

Just don't run out of fuel.

I just chose a way point on the coast of New York and then KSEA. Took me about 90 minutes altogether, flying most of it at Mach 8-9.

Looks like I'll have to give it a shot with the Darkstar - although I still don't have a Series X, I can try it on PC and see how it goes. Thanks for the feedback all!

Used Darkstar as well. Took about an hour. Made saves here and there to be safe.

I tried #2 from the solution. Flight went perfectly, landed smoothly. taxi'd fine. Completion screen/log appeared and returned to menu. No achievement.

I don't know what happened but my plane flew into "something" in the dark on autopilot. It crashed a few times, so no pop. I'll have to try again later.

Can be Save or must i directly 9-10 hours fly in one piece?

I can confirm that this achievement can be unlocked using a higher sim rate. However, the autopilot was extremely wild when doing so and as a result, I manually flew most of the way. Likewise, when refueling mid-flight, I suggest lowering the sim rate back down because the plane sinks and dives when more fuel is added, causing me to almost crash. This could be just an issue for me however, this is my first flight sim experience. The flight itself took me around 1 hour. Another heads up, for me, the increased sim rate killed my framerate and managed to only get about 7fps on the faster sim rates. When I arrived at KSEA, I lowered the sim rate back to normal and upon landing the plane manually the achievement popped. I hope this helps.

I first did a flight from LFBD to KSEA in the Airbus, using a combination of the co-pilot (for takeoff, taxiing, and landing) and autopilot (once it was off the ground). I did not get the achivement, but I did speed up the sim-rate while it was using the autopilot and I had to reload a part-of-the-way-there save file when I wasn't paying attention and it ran out of fuel. So perhaps it has to happen all in one session instead of being split up at all.

I attempted it again using the Cessna jet with a mix of speeding up the autopilot and switching over to the co-pilot. (No refueling was ever needed.) My co-pilot was not following the waypoints during the final approach to land so I had to land manually but the auto-throttle on the Jet was killing me. I managed a touch-and-go at SEATAC and this time I got the achievement.
----

Just so I know, when you all refer to autopilot, are you referring to the autopilot buttons (I believe the command is Alt+Z) or the co-pilot (Ctrl+Alt+X)? I think you can only speed up the sim rate when you or the autopilot has control, so I believe you're referring to the former.

Thanks Scorpian. Hope it goes okay for you!

Luke - are you using the low altitude airways option? That should put the autopilot in a space where mountains aren't an issue.

There is a patch due this week I believe which will hopefully fix a couple of the crashing issues. It should be released on Thursday 3rd.

Oh ok Soupaboy. Hope there will be this fix on Thursday.

Otherwise I just did it there with my Airbus A320neo, I lowered the settings to 1080p and I disconnected the BING. I arrive at the Seattle airport, I land. And nothing, no Achievement...
I feel like I wasted my Sunday afternoon cry

A little over an hour to make the trip, juggling between x16 and x32 for simulation speed.

@DE4N MUFC - Sim Rate is available on Xbox. From the main menu go to options > Controls Options > add filter as ‘all’ > now search ‘sim rate’ in search by name. This will appear under miscellaneous. Now you need to bind the three options. I used the following: Sim Rate = RB+L3, Increase Sim Rate = RB+Up & Decrease Sim Rate = RB+Down.

Although Sim Rate is on Xbox I have tried this three times and no achievement unlocked - all three were successful i.e take off and landing in the right places. Looks as though we need to go with option one or use a different plane (going to test this)

I managed to get this today on Series X using Quick Resume. I left it on overnight and around 6 1/2 hours into the flight I paused the game and turned the console off. A bit later I turned it back on, even played another game before hand, before resuming where I left off, and letting the co-pilot do it's thing.

It took a bit over 6 more hours, it even looked like it was going to land properly but I took over the last bit just in case, and after a few bounces I landed and it popped. Not sure if I just got lucky, or the quick resume helped but those on Xbox struggling with crashes might want to try that.

Did this today, unloked fine.

I used an Airbus A320neo as I know how to set up autopilot.

Just flew starting LFBD ending KSEA (default runway to default runway). AI pilot off, manual takeoff and engaged autopilot for a good 10h flight. Once at KSEA engaged AI pilot and it landed perfectly.

Just moved the camera a bit every now and then to avoid controller disconnecting.

I have this achievment now! With the Darkstar, AI pilot on the takeoff, the cruise manual to mach 9.2, the approach and the landing manual too! After touchdown in the taxi, the achievment happened! laugh I think on 14/06/2022 it's the fast and easy way to complete this achievment

1 hour guide! Using just a controller and default controls.

Is VERY hands on, needing constant supervision though.

First you need to make sure you have the Top Gun DLC installed. This gives up the Expirmental Darkstar plane.

Then we're going to tweak a few assists.
So using the master difficultly setting at the top of the page, set all to EASY. This gives unlimited fuel and no damage, so you can crash land all you like so long as it's at the right airport and the right way up.

Then under PILOTING we're going to turn off:
Auto Rudder
Assisted Yoke
Assisted Landing
Assisted Takeoff
Assisted Controller Sensitivity

I had AI Anti-stall and Auto-trim on, but I spent a lot of time fighting the trim off the plane, so up to you if you want to experiment, you can always turn it on/off mid flight

Then load up the arrival and departure airports.
Departure: LFBD
Arrival: KSEA

Then keep it as GPS flight plan, as we're blasting straight over the north pole.

When you load in, the AI will sort all the Tower chat, so just hold cn_A and away you go.
Once in the air, climb to 30,000' at full speed (20° climb)
Then descend -20° until you hit Mach 1.5, this is shown bottom left on the HUD in 3rd person, or at the top of the plane on a dial in 1sr person.
Climb up at 20° until you hit Mach 3

When you hit Mach 3, turn on the fuel cell (it's a square made of 4 squares, just right if the control stick, on the dash), then flip the scramjet switch (left of the main screen, mid height).

If you're going to slow, it will just beep at you, otherwise you'll get a big surge and away you go, up to Mach 8.

I climbed up to about 100,000' and then using the arrows in the top corner of the compass rose (1st person mode), zoomed out as much as I could so you can cut the corner a bit on your GPS track.

As I said, this is hands on all the way, but with the auto trim, was pretty steady. This is because the plane has no autopilot I could find, and AI Pilot (assist pilot) doesn't like using Scramjet. So you just have to let it cruise, occasionally banking and occasionally levelling.
I found sitting about 5° banked turn would work well for turning the corner on the GPS track. Just keep lining up the straight line with the purple line, on the compass rose (bottom right if the main screen)

Eventually you'll get near to Seattle
(I accidentally turned off an engine half way over with some fiddling. Thankfully no damage was on, so after 30 seconds of wild spinning managed to restart it).

When you're less than 1000nm out, you want to start descending and slowing down. To switch back to the normal engines, you need to slow to Mach 3, and then switch off the Scramjet with the switch. This fired up the normal engine automatically, but maybe worth a save point.

After that, the landing throttle is about 28% and bring it in to land. I was on the grass between two runways when it popped, still pootling along

All the best! And questions let me know, and hopefully it should get around it crashing during the normal 8+ hour flight.

Worked like a charm after trying many other things. I highly recommend practicing landing a few times in the Darkstar before giving this a go.

@TB4CO , really not sure then. Possibly depends where you land, although like i said above i was inbetween runways. So id say as long as you're at the airport then it should work.
Alternatively, did you land anywhere between the two aiports?

Works as of April 23, Xbox Series X with TM Hotas.
1h 11min, landing is the tricky part but use the instrument display, icon on screen will show touchdown location on screen. Adjust speed and attitude to hit the runway. Popped 5-10s after touchdown.

I slowed from Mach 8+ and 140k feet at about 4-500nm, that can be done a bit later.
Runways are 16 or 34, so either come in from south or north. Make a flight plan with an approach if needed.

I got it on my second try.
Took me around 45 minutes.

First time, I messed up my flight plan and didn't get authorization to land, so it didn't work.

Second time, I let AI control the communication with tower and set sime rate to normal around 100km from airport. It should then unluck when you touch down.

Intro
I'm sure the other guides were great but they were a bit outdated for me. Using them and the many helpful comments to get my own successful unlock, I decided to provide an updated guide, tested on XSX.

This solution uses Sim rate and the plane's native Autopilot (AP) to get this achievement in about an hour. In my experience, trying to let the AI pilot do this overnight (8+ hours), the game would always crash.

Version Disclaimer:

Guide
Setting up:
  1. Assign inputs to Sim rate up/down
  2. Assistance: All assists on (we will tweak in game)
  3. Select World map
  4. Cessna CJ4
  5. Departure LFBD
  6. Arrival KSEA
  7. IFR Low altitude route
On the runway:
First, in the flight assistant overlay, ensure the following settings

Then...
  1. Set up AP
  2. Manually take off (including putting landing gear away)
  3. Press cn_Y on controller to activate AP.
  4. Use your custom Sim rate binding to increase it, slowly at first. Following this guide, it should be cn_RB + cn_up
Whilst flying:
  • When the NAV isn't straight, mostly early on (the purple line in the VFR map), lower the SIM rate a bit, otherwise the SIM/AP can't cope and goes quite wide - it should eventually return but for safety I lowered it anyway, then increase to max on the straights
  • Keep an ear out for the ATC guy requesting elevation changes: lower sim rate, go into cockpit and adjust the Altitude and VS / VS speed settings accordingly, then resume high sim rate
  • Generally keep throttle around 70% to avoid overspeed narrator annoying you
Landing:
  • As you get 100-150KM away from KSEA, start to pay more attention, adjusting Sim rate up and down as you feel comfortable.
  • Again, pay attention to the ATC as they will be instructing you to decrease elevation in sections. I used 500-3000 negative VS
  • The AP will initially do long sort of circles whilst you are descending, this is fine
  • When you get somewhere between 3000-6000ft, you should be thinking about turning off AP and making your way to land manually.
  • Hopefully you'll have had plenty of practice by now (if not, I'd recommend doing the landing challenges first)
  • Landing speed for CJ4 is about 110-140 kts, flaps max
  • Achievement popped the minute my back wheels hit the runway (it was a very dodgy landing)
Good luck!

I will try your guide in the next days, but i have a question before.
Do you remember your Multiplayer, AI-Traffic & Weather settings by any chance?

Good question!
I believe I had AI traffic and weather in real time / live, but MP turned off.
Please share yours when you unlock it too :)

I used a slightly different method to the other guide here (which I think uses the AI pilot, but confusingly refers to it as 'autopilot'), using the aircraft's actual own autopilot as wanted to do it slightly more 'legit' and the in game AI pilot is rubbish anyway.

I used the A320 because the aircraft's autopilot works well and I know how to program it, but I guess any aircraft with a reliable AP will work. I realised afterwards I might have been better using an aircraft eligible for the 'Saddle Sore' achievement to do that at the same time so you might want to do that.

- Make sure you have set unlimited fuel in the options
- Setup up the route in the main menu
LFBD to KSEA (I did gate to gate to be safe)
Early morning daytime*
Clear skies*
Multiplayer Off*
AI traffic Off*
Choose IFR High Level
- Take off and get to your final cruising altitude (about 38,000 in the A320 from memory)
- Configure the aircraft AP to maintain your altitude, max cruising speed, and follow navigation
- Turn on the AI to do just the radio calls (not control the aircraft), so it will respond to all the frequency changes for you
- Increase the sim rate 3 times (so that 15seconds real time is 1minute game time), any more than this and the aircraft becomes unstable (you might not want to do this if doing 'Saddle Sore' at same time as that requires 8 real world hours of flight)

Now you're all set for it to follow the majority of the route for you. The altitude doesn't change until you near the destination so you can just leave it to it, the AP will follow the route and maintain speed/altitude, with the AI responding to the frequency changes. Go do other things and keep an occasional eye on it. Note on fuel: It seems with some aircraft with unlimited fuel on the fuel doesn't go down, but with the A320 the fuel still goes down but you can top it up from the menu. Make sure to keep an eye on your fuel and top up if necessary.

Once it goes over the mountains nearing the destination turn off the AI doing the radio and pay attention to the game again. Guide the aircraft through the decent and landing and you're done.

-*My first attempt at this achievement, I did it at night in rain (to progress those achievements!) but the game became strangely laggy in the last hour to the point it was uncontrollable and I crashed on landing and then the game crashed. So on my successful attempt I used daytime clear skies and turned off multiplayer and AI traffic (which has the added advantage that the only radio calls are for you) and had no problem the second time around.

-You *cannot* use the 'travel to' option, the full flight must be completed, but you *can* increase the sim rate. However if you want to double this up with the 'Saddle Sore' achievement (using a suitable aircraft) you have to make sure you spend at least least 8 real world hours in the sky.
