How to unlock the Road Trip achievement in Microsoft Flight Simulator - Definitive Guide

**Disclaimer: I started this video already having 19% completion of this achievement. Therefore exactly what this video contains is how to get & how long for 81%... should be assumed how to get the remainder and that it should take about 25min longer than this video or at least less than 90min.

-Watch out for the speed bumps. (glitches in the mapping of the ground)
-Watch your speed, over 100kns you might take off from minor dips. 75-95kns is a good safety net.
-Engine power around 40-45% works easiest.
-Use your flaps to slow down instead of brakes or reducing engine power to minimize completion time.

GOOD LUCK!

Just finished this, and +1 from me. Excellent guide if you just want to knock this out in one go with minimal effort. The most "difficult" thing about this whole achievement is getting your taxi steering to be reasonable. I'd been having horrible problems keeping all planes straight on normal taxiing after a landing, but it seemed to work fine here.

As far as the "speed bumps" go, I ran into three using the OPs route.

Using the F/A 18 fighter with maximum power you will make the trip in about 20 minutes. watch out for the spines.

I got 7% going from MYNN to KTPA with the ROBIN DR400. It seems to glitch out when I swapped inputs on my tv after the AI kicked in at the start, and went up 7% when I looked back.

Yea in 3 times doin this, it went from 70 to 95%, if I didn't swap inputs it crashed into the ocean

If you set the flaps in the down position and hold RB+right analog stick up to keep your trim at about -40%, you can have the engines at 100% power and do 183 knots without taking off.

Yeah also did 180KTS, but I had flaps full D-Pad up and held the left stick up to press the plane down.

Second F18. Full throttle and flaps and it stays flat at 230kts

I also turned off damage in the assistance menu to make landing and any hops easier

F18 wins every time. Thanks for the guide.

Bah. You all lack imagination.

Darkstar. Full Throttle. No damage. 350+.

F18 on Bonneville salt flats working for me, but I had to plan a complete flight plan from one airport parking to another (from KENV to KSLC), low-altitude IFR, to make it count

And I’m 30 away from finishing it straight up when I find this :-)

On PC and on an Xbox if you connect a keyboard to it, as soon as the flight finishes loading, press the Y key on your keyboard to enter Slew Mode, so you can place the plane on the ground where ever you want. This will really speed up the process of getting on the ground ASAP without needing to spend time descending and landing the plane. Press F1 to lower altitude and if your keyboard has a number pad, use the 2, 4, 6, and 8 keys to control placement. If you also have controller a connected, holding down the left trigger will lower the altitude, and the left joystick controls the placement. When you have the plane on ground press the Y key on the keyboard to exit Slew Mode. Once you have control of the plane again, then just adjust the throttle, trim, and flaps to keep the plane planted to the ground.

You will likely get a lot of progress towards this while working on the rest of this game. Heck, you should definitely unlock this naturally if going for Wing Commander (1000 hours of flight time). But if you're just itching to get it over with, here is what I did:

World Map >
Departure: KLGA (Laguardia, New York) - GATE (GATE 1 -- GATE SMALL)
Arrival: KJFK (Kennedy Intl, New York) - GATE (GATE A 14 -- GATE MEDIUM)
Plane: Textron Aviation Cessna 152

Once you load in, let the AI Co-Pilot take over and they will automatically start the plane, taxi, take-off, land, taxi, and park (if they don't crash somewhere along the way). Took about 15 minutes each time and got 4-6% added to the tracker each time it completed (if the AI Co-Pilot didn't crash).

Long and short is this is likely not the easiest or most efficient way to get this, but it's how I got it. The point is to find a larger airport, click on it, and choose "Zoom For Details" (Under Set as Departure/Arrival). You want to choose a Gate/Ramp that is far away from a runaway to increase the amount of time the pilot has to taxi. Same goes for the arrival airport.

I'm sure there is a better, longer route combination to maximize the amount of taxi time per flight. Feel free to share and I will update the solution! Let me know if I can do anything to improve this guide!

My tracker stopped at 60%. It appears people are still getting the Achievement, so maybe my progress reset. I tried with both me taxiing and the AI taxiing with no increase.

Sorry to hear that @WholsJohn117. I personally didn't have any issues but the game is definitely a buggy mess. I think the AI Co-pilot got worse after the last update lol

Yeah, I have to keep an eye on mine also. I did just discover there is a tracker for taxi distance in the Pilot Profile. From the home screen, go Profile > Pilot Profile > Search 'taxi' or scroll down to 'Total Distance Taxiing (M)'. Mine is in meters, and I don't see a way to change it. Mine is currently at 24,503.27 m or 15.2 SM/13.2 NM, so something reset. We'll see if it's SM or NM once the tracker starts going up again.

I used LFPB Parking 143 to LFPG Parking 55 which was giving about 7% and the AI never crashed

You can get this naturally by just making sure you start at gates and taxi to the runway, then taxi to parking when you land.

Think the devs need to sort out AI co-pilot, never seen a plane go fast slow on a taxi way rather than a constant speed

I'd like to recommend Purplbacon's guide. Easily the best way. You can turn the rudder a little bit to the right and go in circles the entire time. About 120 KTS.

Load up the Darkstar Experimental plane from Top Gun. Start at KENV, Wendover, Utah. Runway 8. This airport is directly west of the Bonneville salt flats, the testing ground for land speed records.

Turn on all assists, turn off all damage, play this like an arcade game. Take off (or "take off") going east to the salt flats... nah, just blast through the shrubbery at the end of the runway and go crazy steering around on the flats. You can get 300+ at full throttle, and the achievement tracker will jump up. Just keep circling and pushing down to keep you on the ground. Even if you bounce, just keep steering the best you can. It took me maybe 10 minutes (maybe less) to go from 49% to 100%.

Edit: I just tested with my alt. 17 minutes from 0 to 100%. Speed maxed out around 405.
