Update Sep 18th, 2020: After #2 Patch ver. 1.8.3, this achievement is working now. But I strongly recommendded to finish this achievement in one sittings if you can since the tracker is still bugged so you might got stucked if you exit the game during the middle of this achievment hunt (at least it happened to me). There are only 25 airports needed for the achievement so just follow the list and do it one by one. You'll get the achievement before even hitting the 30th airport.

I can comfirm that this achievement's progress will be reset if your game crashes so I don't recommand doing this at this moment (Pretty much like the 100 landmark achievement).
I got stuck at 56% after a CTD and when I was redoing the previous airports the game crashed again and the tracker never goes up again...

If you really want to do this at the current state of the sim......

Here is the guide:
1. Start up the sim and enter the world map, select a smaller and slower plane like Icon A5 or Shock Ultra (It'll come in handy for those smaller airports require you to manully land it)
2. Select ONLY the arrival airport and from the dropdown list. Select those Recommanded Airports (Star Airports) which are 42 in total.
3. You can specify the RWY you want to land on other than the default one and click on Fly.
4. After load into the sim world turn on AI copolit and let the AI do the landing for most of the airports.
5.1 Open the achievements tracker in the Xbox Game Bar (Press Win+G to open by default) before touch down and verify the tracker for this achievement goes up after the roll out (Soon after when ATC tells you to get off the runway) then you can immediately exit to main menu and start the next one.
5.2 Or if the tracker get stucked, you can take over the control and stop your plane on the runway then exit to main menu. Take a note of this airport so you can pay a second visit later if you have to.

P.S. For some reason the achievements increase for 4% each which indicates the total number should be 25 star airports. I didn't get the chance to verify which one counts and which one doesn't (Cuz the CTDs) so here is the full list:
Please note the in-game order of this list is now backwards now since the #2 patch so you can just follow the order in game and you'll get the achievement before hitting the 30th airport.

You can copy and paste this list to a txt file and take notes of each one that you've done (and also each one that get stucked).

Here are the extra tips you can keep in mind:

The airports that requires you to manully land are:
KEZ This airport has terrain obsticles on the glide slope so the AI can't land it. I recommand RWY 19 for manual landing.
C53 Also terrain obsticles on the glide slope. Use runway 16 to manually land the plane.
KASE AI can't land very well on RWY33 so you might consider RWY 15.
LFLJ AI tends to approach on a higher glide slope so you may have to take over at any time you think that's necessary.
There are a few more smaller airports that you might need to take over if the AI copilot is being AI copilot again so watch closely and be ready to take over.

AI landing counts: You can just sit back, relax and let AI do most of the landings.
You only need to land the plane on (near) the runway to make it count: Sometimes after AI lands the plane it'll immediately veer off the runway but that will also count towards this achievement.
Keep on tracking on your achievement tracker at every landing: If it's working for you, making the landings to count is pretty easy. The tracker will go up when the ATC tells you to exit the runway or when the plane has slowed down on the runway after landing. Just make sure you check it after every landing so you'll know it for sure.

I hope at least some of you guys can get this one!

It is no mystery why the tracker increases 4% for each landing at a star airport. Despite the achievement description above, the in game achievement description reads:

"Land at 25 star airports shown on the world map"

UPDATE:
Star airports are the handcrafted airports in the game. Therefore, you need to remove the Deluxe and Premium edition airports (or flag them as such) from your list above as I assume most people will be playing the standard edition via game pass. Leaving these 10 additional airports on the list could cause some unnecessary landings (if you're not going for the 500 total).

Deluxe:
EHAM
HECA
FACT
KORD
LEMD

Premium
KDEN
OMDB
EDDF
EGLL
KSFO

More Star airports will be added in future. EDLP can be downloaded for free from the marketplace official content right now. I believe Japan may have additional star airports in tomorrows update.

@CiaoTime Congrats bro! The tracker is definitely stucked for me... I've done 4 rounds of all 40+ star airports + all the landing challenges but nothing changed yet. My progress stucked at 56% damn it...

Mines also stuck at 12% and I've landed at plenty of starred airports :( Hope they fix this in the next patch

Tracker seems to be fixed and no longer resets. There are more than 25 starred airports but it popped at 25 for me.

Similar experience to erod550. I started at the top of the list and worked my way down. Because I had already increased the achievement tracker to 32% before the patch, I manually checked Profile > Pilot Profile > Number of Different Star Airports Landed At after each one, and every single airport I visited increased that number (and then once I landed at my ninth the achievement tracker started increasing).

I had same experience with only having to land at 25 as the tracker rose by 4% each time. I did notice that some of the airports on the original list in guide aren't star airports after the last update on 9/15/20. Make sure the airport is a star if going by a list. I also wanted to add that after checking my pilot profile even after earning the achievement it showed that I had landed at 25 sifferent star airports yet it shows I have only landed at 23 different airports. I'm not sure if that is a glitch or if the number of different airports landed at is in addition to the STAR airports.

Congrats to all the boys here who get this achievement. Unfortunately the tracker is working fine for me until 96% then I turned off my PC and went out. When I came back and launch the game the tracker stopped working AGAIN... So seems like the tracker is still bugged in some way......

The tracker for the different airports requires that the three box "completion" screen pops up once the flight is complete and you shutdown at a parking spot. Just stopping off the active runway will not add to the different airports tracker, but it will add to the star airports.

Hi @swanee28, I've also checked the numbers of airport and star airports number after I finish each landings. It seems to be working for me even if I exit the game on an active runway. I'll look into that further. Thanks for the info man!

I noticed that I had to stop the plane (even on the runway) to register the landing. If you exit before doing so, you may not get the credit for it.

I'm fairly certain that the landing challenges count towards this achievement. I just unlocked this after doing about two thirds of all landing challenges, then going through the list landing at airports that are not part of landing challenges, including ones where I had landed on before. When I landed at KSEA it unlocked, even though I had already landed there as part of another achievement a while ago.

11/3/2020 - Landing challenges do count. After I did those, I just started picking star airports on the map I knew I hadn't landed at. Popped a few airports later.

With a few airports the Xbox game bar didn't show progress until I had stopped after taxing to parking. KJFK for example.

I found if you just choose a destination on the map, it will start you in the air about 2-5 minutes away from the airport. No need (at least at this time) to take off from a nearby airport. That's what I did to earn this achievement last night.

EHAM isn’t a star airport

Actually there’s quite a few of them in your list that aren’t star airports

EHAM is a star airport on the Premium versions as Schipol is a custom airport. Each world update also seems to add stars to certain airports.

Lol, letting AI do these 9/10 results in a crash. Working down the list, currently at KJFK and so far the only place AI managed to land was EDDF.

Seems to be working now! Completed it today on the Standard Edition. I didn't keep complete step-by-step track of which star airports I'd landed on to get the achievement, but I believe I landed at about ~30 of them before it ticked over. Did have a few crashes (both of the to-desktop and into-pavement variety), but they did not seem to reset any achievement progress.

The best advice I can give is to do the "Greased" achievement first. The in-game Landing Challenges are almost all star airports, and completing one of those challenges counts as landing at that airfield for this achievement. It gets you well over halfway there!

I've just done this on Xbox and it worked fine, the only thing was the AI Pilot hardly ever landed on the runway, it would land in the water or on the side of a mountain, but it still counted, so just select a star airport from dropdown recommended airports for arrival, load up and press LS down for AI and just let it fly.
