How to unlock the Go for the Gold achievement in Microsoft Solitaire Collection - Definitive Guide

Hey all,
This achievement will take you at least 8 months to complete and will require you to complete most, if not all, challenges found on a single day. I figured I'd post all solutions I could find for all challenges starting March 1st, 2015. These will mostly only consist out of the harder ones I can find on YouTube, but they should help you nevertheless. If you find another solution, feel free to add them into the comments or send me a PM and I'll gladly paste it in.

Sashamorning mentioned that you are able to rewind the clock to December to complete those challenges as well. As such, I thought it would be useful to add video guides for those as well. Instead of the spoiler as I did with the current month, I've created a playlist. These will be updated once YouTube is up and running again since it seems those servers are down at the time of writing

December 2014 solutions (not created yet)

January 2015 solutions (under construction)
Note: No solutions found for the following days: 1,

February 2015 solutions
Note: No solutions found for the following days: 5, 6, 24, 27 and 28
Note: The video for 15/02/2015 says FreeCell but is actually Spider

March 2015 solutions

April 2015 solutions

May 2015 Solutions

Edit: Instead of linking actual videos, I'll be linking a playlist with all solutions. In case one of them doesn't get recorded, let me know and I'll search for a link or create it myself.

Thanks compute

I'm no cardgame-wizzard, but I have had some trouble with the Pyramid one from 2nd of March. Not sure if there is some sort of website somewhere were they have all solutions for all the cardgames. The first pyramid almost seems unsolvabale

The key to Pyramids is to use as much cards as possible already on the table to get the "13". It takes a bit of puzzling, but it's manageable. Once you got that figured out, future games will be really easy.

just click on your clock and then select "change time and date settings". this worked with minesweeper; will probably work here too.

Actually, I've been able to back to December, too. That's 4 months in one fell swoop, if people have had it installed. I haven't tried November yet, that might be pushing it.

^All it takes is a few tries for the easier ones. I've sent him an odd one about a few Freecell challenges but Solitaire and Spider should be doable.

Also the furthest I could go back as of last night was December. I'd suggest doing that if you can before the end of March.

The video creators like to delete everything soon after a month is over. You pretty much have to stay on top of it.

How challenging is it to get gold without the help of the guides? I am able to do all easy, most mediums, and some hards without the help of videos. Will this be enough to get the golds with ease? I'm thinking of going back a few months and trying for some gold medals but don't want to get close and not be able to get it.

The hardest modes for me are multi deck spider and freecell.

Just as a reminder. On youtube a user called Voranc had solutions as far as 3 months back. To get it done as quickly as possible Bronze takes 5 days. Silver 10 days and gold 18 days of getting all challenges every day.

Just an fyi I put my clock back to august and the challenges are gone, you get an error. I can do October still, haven't tried September yet. I slacked for a few months so went back to try. Anything from at least august back are now gone.

To clarify, the medals I got count but you are unable to do previous challenges from those months.

It's unclear to me how far back you can go. JamP0und wasn't able to go back more than 2 months. As of today, I just finished getting Gold in March and wanted to go back to get some more medals. I tried August, September and October 2015 and they didn't load. November seemed to load fine. So maybe 4 months prior to the current month are available?

There's no set time, it's just whenever they decide to get rid of the challenges from whatever server it's on. Before that last post I was able to go back a whole year.

You can if you have the Windows 8.1 app installed on a Windows 10 PC. Disable auto updates of your time on your PC to set back the clock and disable auto updates of your Store apps. Remember to set back your time when you are done.

I'm just having so much trouble even with the easy challenges. Could we start messaging the Voranc guy to do a video for each challenge. I was good at Minesweeper, but Solitaire is starting to kill me inside.

February 7 - Klondike. There's a trick I learned elsewhere that helped me a lot, and could have helped that solution by about 10 minutes. That 80 move limit for TWO kings is crazy. I'll post it since I think it'll help people out with the move challenges.

At 8:02, the game starts wanting to put the 2-3-4 of hearts to the top. Don't let it. Rewind until just the ace is there (since you have to move it for the K of diamonds). From then on, every time you make a move, rewind back to that ace. The game is trying to use up your moves, but you don't have to let it. Doing this let me finish from that point to the end, one move at a time. I think I hit it on 79, but I can't remember.

The point is to abuse the rewind to keep the automatic cards from using your moves. You can do this anytime you have a moves challenge, especially the Expert ones. toast

I'm unable to get the title update for this game. I have Windows 8.1 (and have done all of Minesweeper), but it says the windows store is not working and that I should refresh my windows; ie have it restored and only save photos and documents, but lose/re-install things such as games, apps, ect... I have a huge list of games and apps and would rather not lose my Steam library and other downloaded files. Is there anyway around this? I just need the update to start unlocking the achievements.
I don't need the achievements now, but if I do the requirements and later on down the road refresh my windows, or play on another windows pc that has the update, will I get the achievements? I mostly talking about the 12/10/8 months ones and the every day achievements. I want to go back and Gold all of Dec/Jan/Feb but do not want to waste my time if it will not save. Any help/suggestions appreciated. I do not want to lose all my files either warning

It took me 3 weeks start to finish to get this achievement by going back to February 2015 (December 2014 is as far back as I could go for Bronze medals), so this achievement is going to take a while, one way or another. I managed to solve all challenges without using videos. I don't why but I enjoy Spider the most, I even do all multi-suit challenges for the month first. For the harder Klondike timed challenges, I get a pack of cards and deal them out face up, including the deck.

My advice for Pyramid is to pair up ALL THE CARDS, not just those already dealt. That way you will only ever have a single card left in the deck for the last card on the board. You do this by counting the cards on the board before you make a single move. For each of the 6 different pairs, there are always 8 cards. If there are 4 cards on the board, then there are 4 cards in the deck (they will be easy). If there are 2 cards on the board then you need to pair 4 cards in the the deck, leaving 2 cards in the deck to clear the 2 cards on the board. If there are 6 cards on the board, then you need to pair up two of those, because you only have 2 cards in the deck (they can be harder). Look out for pairs on the board that are on top of each other, as you will need to use another pair to remove them. If you ever see two or more pairs on top of each other, then the board may not be solveable. Once you learn to spot this you can save time and just deal the deck 3 times to get the next board, unless you are trying to get a certain card in which case get as many as you can first.

If you want to save money and get 2 gold badges for the price of 1 using premium, simply buy a premium one month pass around the middle of the month, it will last 30 days straight, and you can get the best of premium for two months instead of one because doing 15 or so days of challenges will get you gold even if you dont complete all challenges each day.

These are the long achievements. As you complete daily challenges, you'll earn points towards medals. The exact number of points needed for each medal varies by month, but you'll need to complete around 60% of the challenges to get a gold medal. You can only get one of each type of medal per month, so it'll take eight months to unlock "Go for the Gold," ten months for "Go for the Silver," and a full year to get "Go for the Bronze.

You can track your unlocked medals by clicking on 'Prize History.'

0
0
Each month allows you to unlock one of each type of daily challenge badge, meaning you'll have to earn the 8 gold badges over 8 months, 10 silver badges over 10 months, and 12 bronze over 12 months. So it will take a total of 12 calendar months to earn the required badges for these achievements. You could earn a badge as each month comes up, or to speed things up, change the date on your Windows 10 device to the last day of the months to have access to all daily challenges for that month, then complete whichever ones you prefer.

Here are the requirements for each of the badges:

  • Bronze - 3000
  • Silver - 9000
  • Gold - 17000
  • Diamond - 25000
As you can see, getting a gold badge will take a lot of coins.

One way to speed this up is to upgrade to Premium. For $2.00, you get double the coins in Daily Challenge mode and all ads removed. I highly recommend upgrading, as it will save you at least 20 hours of grinding daily challenges to unlock all the required badges, but it comes to how much you value your time versus your money, and whether or not you think you'll actually enjoy doing all the daily challenges or not. One other important aspect of the Premium upgrade is that your Windows 10 device only stores the expiration date of your upgrade, not the date you bought it. Because of this, if you upgrade to Premium on September 1st, 2017, and your Premium expires on October 1st, 2017, all your device looks at is if it's before or after October 1st, 2017. This means when you change your date to past months to earn daily challenge badges, you will still get double coins for the Premium upgrade. This means a one month Premium upgrade gives you essentially an unending Premium bonus, making it even more worth it.

With the Premium upgrade, it will still take around a third of the challenges to reach gold (so at least 50 challenges) and double that without Premium, so you're looking at a ton of challenges each month to earn the required badges.

As far as the challenges themselves, refer to the "Strive for Perfection" achievement solution for more information.
