How to unlock the Good To Be King achievement in Microsoft Solitaire Collection - Definitive Guide

*Apparently glitchy*
Didn't pop for me in star club or daily challenge mode when it should have, got it in standard mode first try. My friend popped it without ever playing in the standard mode, got it doing challenges. Some say in the comments that it didn't pop for them either way. Need more feedback to be sure, but apparently resetting stats will allow you to get it if you're having trouble. Just make sure you get other stat related achievements before doing so.

Here's a guide with some helpful hints towards getting this achievement.

You will need to do this once on each game mode, and the king needs to be the last one laid out on the board. It cannot be in the deck at the bottom of the screen.

*In the pyramid game mode you can constantly choose a new game until you see a king at the top of the board. --->It has been commented that all the cards, even the ones on the bottom pile, need to be gone before the king is removed. <---

*In standard game mode tri-peaks you can use the joker (which can be obtained by watching an advertisement) with the king to make this easier.

Confirming have done multiple times just like knab says. Have also done it on all game modes. Looks like it is glitched for some of us.
I don't have on WP8 so wondering if that has something to do with it. Can those who have the achievement / don't have it confirm if they do or don't have solitaire for WP8.
cheers

Worked fine for me in standard game modes removing King last on the first dealt board of both pyramid and tripeaks. I didn't complete the game after a new board was dealt, just went back to menu and started up the other game mode. Don't have WP version, so not sure why others having problems.

Can't get this to pop either. Followed the guide to restart Pyramid until a King appears at the top (and managed to complete the board) and also ensured the King was last to be removed in Tri-Peaks (both "legit" and with a Joker) but it still won't pop.

Not sure what else I can do to try and get this achievement.

Seems odd. Any chance this could be due to windows vs windows rt. I'm on rt and no pop.....

Kugare I did exactly as you said and it popped. I think that might be something worth putting into the guide.

Still no joy for me. Do you have to make it to the results screen without removing any more cards? That's quite difficult as usually there will be some cards that you have to remove before it will tell you game over

I have removed the King as the last card and played each game out still nothing. At the end of the month I am going to reset my stats and try again.

Interesting. So if we reset our stats and then remove the two kings we might be in luck?

I reset my stats. It did not reset the badges. I got the two kings but it still didn't pop. I deinstalled and reinstalled the game and it popped after I completed the game where I got the 2nd king. I played both the tripeaks and pyramid games until I got to the summary screen.
I have the premium version and for the first games after I reinstalled, it didn't give me the option for the wildcards. After playing some games, the option for wildcards/extra deal came back.

I've been messing around with this achievement and I think it might be that you can't "Undo" a move during your turn.
1) I had a pyramid game that started with a King, so I completed it but undid some of my moves to get it. It didn't unlock.
2) In the same game, I had another king on top, so I completed it, but this time I did not use an Undo. The achievement unlocked in-game.
3) I had reset my game and played a king on tri-peaks before doing this.

its because on the Pyramid King needs to be the last one to go Including the pile of cards at the bottom, make sure to get rid of all of them. everything else is good, thanks for the solution ??

Just popped for me today, was in Daily Challenges on a Surface RT, the challenge was "Get XYZ points". I had played WP to completion but just started the Win8 version. The board I completed didn't even have a King at the peak, but I did clear the whole entire board (and the cards at the bottom). Lucky I guess...

my experience:
beat Tripeaks King as last card with a Joker, still had cards left.
beat Pyramid King as last card without a Joker, nothing; still had cards left. Got to watch a video for a Joker & did so. Beat the next game without a Joker, nothing. Next game, right after the cards were laid out, it popped.
Note: I haven't updated my game in months. Last time was probably August sometime.

Can anyone help with forcing the joker ad to 'spawn'??

edit: just noticed this is in win8, should probably go to win10

Ok, didn't get it the first time using Pyramid as the second game where I used Undo, tried it *without* undo and got it without resetting stats or any of the other things mentioned here. Can't remember whether I used undo in Tri-Peaks as I did it a few days ago but it might just be undo that's the problem.

I got the achievement in standard mode without problems and i can also confirm: daily challenges & star club don't work, because i removed the king many times to trigger the achivement, but nothing happened.

Here is exactly what i did:
I started a pyramid game until i saw a king as last card. After removing the king i made sure to lose the other 2 rounds to see the result screen.
Afterwards i started Tripeaks and played until i saw a king as one of the 3 last cards. I used my joker to remove him and immediately got the achievement.

I ended up having to:
1) Delete Solitaire off my Windows Phone. (Not sure if the cloud saves mess with achievement)
2) Reset my stats in the Windows 8 version.
3) Uninstall the Windows 8 version.
4) Reinstall the Windows 8 version.
5) Play out each game all the way thru until you get the king as the last card and continue to finish the game. Don't start a new game if you don't have a King right away. I'm not sure if it matters but I tried that many times before and it didn't end up popping the achievement. I just played every game all the way thru. You can expedite it by just running thru the burn deck if you want too.
6) After the second game type (getting the king and finishing the game) the achievement popped.

When playing Pyramid games, there would be a card peak which is visible at the start of the game. If it isn't a King, click or tap Menu and select "New deal" until you get a King card on the card peak. From there it's smooth sailing. Sometimes the game will ask you if you want to play the game with a Joker card which can be useful trying to solve a board.

However for TriPeaks games, you cannot see the three peak cards at the beginning of the game, which makes this achievement RNG-based. Just get lucky and use the Joker cards (especially when you don't have any cards from the pile to remove the King card).

Again, daily challenges do not count for this achievement.

For Pyramid, you can see your deal and you'll immediately know if the top card is a King, so you can just redeal until you get a favorable setup. Once you have a deal, win the game, taking the King off last.

For TriPeaks, it's all luck. Keep playing until a King is the last card to come off the board.

As the achievement description says, you need to complete a board in both TriPeaks and in Pyramid in which a King is the last card you remove from the board.

Unfortunately you're stuck waiting for the game to automatically generate a board in which a King is at the peak so you can remove it last. At least with Pyramid games, you can see all the cards, so you can keep starting a new game until you get a board with a King at the top. With TriPeaks you'll have to just hope one of the peaks ends up being a King when you flip it over.

Thankfully you'll almost definitely run into this situation in both game types well before clearing 100 boards in each for the respective achievements. I actually unlocked this achievement before even finishing 10 boards of each, so it should come naturally and you shouldn't have to focus on it. For Pyramid especially, if a King is at the peak, you'll be set. For TriPeaks, if you flip a peak card and it's a King, just make a conscious effort to save it for last.

One other thing to make sure that when there is a King at the peak, that you can successfully complete the board, is to make sure you opt to get a wild card at the start of the game. If you upgrade to Premium, you will get this option before every game. If you don't, it'll be every few games. Keep the wild card for a board where a King is at the peak, that way if the cards don't align such that the King can be eliminated last, you can use the wild card to try to force the King to be last. Remember, if it doesn't work out, undo to before you used the wild card and save it for the next board.
