How to unlock the Marathon achievement in Microsoft Solitaire Collection - Definitive Guide

You need to complete a minimum of one daily challenge each day for a month, the level of the challenge completed does not affect the achievement, for example, completing an easy challenge each day will work.

As long as you complete a month's worth of challenges in date order sequence as per the achievement description it will unlock. You don't have to start on the first day of the month. This was true for myself and others on the recently obtained list. Completing the challenges in date order sequence is important, don't complete them in reverse order or out of sequence if you want it to unlock. I say this because I think completing challenges out of date sequence probably resets the day counter for the achievement.

For example you can start mid February and unlock the achievement mid March. I say this because I unlocked mine on the 12th, others unlocked it on the 27th and 1st etc. I think in my case the PC identified a sequence of daily challenges in place starting mid January. When I repeated a sequence of daily challenges starting on the 1st February the console added these on to the January sequence. So when I reached the 12th I had a long enough sequence of challenges to unlock it. I am not sure exactly how many days are counted as a month, I guess somewhere between 28 and 31.

Also the system clock does not have to be set to the present day to unlock, mine unlocked with it set on the 12th February, when the actual date was the 28th. You can also set the system clock to an earlier date (I think two months is the maximum) if you want the achievement quickly. Again just do them in date order sequence for the reason I mentioned above, repeating previously obtained daily challenges also works. Once I completed a daily challenge and set the calendar to the next day I logged out of Windows. I then logged back into Windows and completed the next challenge. I did this as a precaution to ensure that the Solitaire server recognised the new date for the next daily challenge.

I did mine out of order Feb 23-28, then Feb 1-22. Achievement unlocked for me.

Oops, realised that the Perfect completions were September 2014 to Jan 15.

I set my clock for January to get a Gold badge but first I tried that achievement. I completed at least one challenge from 1 to 31 and it didn't unlock. My real concern here is that the achievement description in pt-BR say that you have to go back each day in a month, in a reversal way, like 31 to 1. Maybe it work, maybe not. I just wonder if it didn't unlock because of the date or the sequence.

That's correct, I used the calendar. I really appreciate your help and it sounds right! I'll try December too because of the badge and I'll report later if it work. If not, I can get it on March anyway :p +1

i have completed a daily challenge every day since Feb 20th and i thought it would unlock for me today, but it did not. do you think, while in the middle of my run from then to now, that setting the clock to Jan 31 to work on jan challenges for a night or two, then setting it back to the current proper date, would mess up the month-long streak? I have fingers crossed that it will unlock tomorrow. if changing the clock in the middle of the run messed it up, i'll have to keep playing daily till early April.

I think that when the title update is applied to the game it causes the game to reset the challenge "streak" counter. I started my challenges before the update and it didn't unlock on the 28th Feb. For you it might be that only the challenges after the update was applied on the 26th Feb were counted, so it might unlock around the 26th March. But that is pure speculation. Let me know if/when it unlocks.

Hmm... that is a good point. but we don't think that time jumping to a different period in the middle f the run would affect it...? i forgot the update wasn't applied until the middle of that week. once i saw the achievements i started working on perfectionist for Feb and trying for a few medals in Jan. Got those...

in the grand scheme, it really doesn't matter. i will get this eventually as i do play daily now. i just wish achievement criteria could be worded a bit more precise. is it every day IN a (specific) month... or every day FOR a month.

I agree with the poor wording. I found there is an equivalent Marathon achievement in Taptiles (Win8). Looks like Microsoft copied it for Solitaire. The solutions and comments make interesting reading and are probably applicable to this game

Okay. Mine popped today on March 25th. I suspect that a lot of people will get this today if they have played every day since the update went live. Which also confirms your solution about not needed to play in every day OF a month, but rather needed to play every day FOR a month... or approximately 30 days. Mine popped on the 28th day, but that could also be because I started the streak counter in Feb. -- OR, it is just for 4 weeks, 28 days... not 30 or 31.

Good news it popped, so I'm confident it will unlock as long a you play for a consecutive number of equivalent to the length of the month the streak starts in. So if you start in Feb that's 28 days, March that's 31 days or June that's 30 days etc. Also you can start on any day of the month.

The Achievement is glitched because I did all the chalenges from March and the achievement didn't unlock.

I think that we have to wait at the end of a month and do at least one challenge from each day in one day ?!

Could you post more details please so I can help. For example are you changing the PC clock or are you completing the challenges on the actual day in date sequence? Are you using the calendar to go back and complete challenges you missed? When did you start the challenge and when did you expect it to unlock?

I'm having the same issue. I came back every day and did an easy one each day and did my last one today but it didn't unlock. Really annoying after spending a month on it.

Unlocked for me today. Never changed the date, just made sure to log in daily and complete a challenge. Surprised it popped mid month but in seeing this solution it makes sense

I think the lack of a visible tracker that measures the streak length causes the biggest problem, because if you accidently break the streak, there is no indication. Also we can't actually be sure what actually breaks the streak. We can guess, but can't definitively prove it.

If this was an FPS and it was an achievement for a 30 kill streak, if I died before I reached 30 kills I would have no problem understanding what happened. In this case I perceive card games as easy core. Therefore I think it must simple to unlock, which it obviously isn't because the steak can be broken in this game just like that FPS example.

Just got this, I had initially done the 19th-24th for the 5 day achievement. Then today went back and did 1st - 18th, then 25th to the 30th.

Just popped this today.

Had been slightly concerned due to the issue they had late last month, where something went wrong on their servers meaning I was unable to log in properly, but it obviously didn't affect things.

I wouldn't recommend going back and using the in game calendar to complete earlier challenges just in case it resets the counter. Just complete one of the current easy daily challenges each day for a month, check you are signed before starting and after you finish just in case. Don't change the clock or use the calendar. If you start in June then it should unlock after 30 days and if you started in May it should be 31 days.

As far as I can tell going back to complete earlier challenges does reset the counter, I've been doing at least one challenge daily, but also going for perfect month so going back to the days where I didn't have time to do all 5.

My date is stuck on July 31, but I have been coming back every day since, and at 12am every night it opens up the next day of challenges. Will I still get the achievement at the end of the month or does the in game date where you click challenges have to be current?

From what you say I think its unlikely you will get it. When did you start the challenge? Why is the date stuck?

I had issues keeping the app playing so I had to uninstall and reinstall it, which I did on July 31. When I played Minesweeper, I would just close and restart the game to fix this issue, but it's not working for this game.

Is the 5 days in a row achievement similar to this one (as it's 5 consistent days/this one is 31 consistent days), because if it is then I'll see if I get that one.

That's good news, I hope you get the Marathon achievement. Never experienced the non loading issue myself. There is page on Facebook that has info with an active community manager. There is a forum as well, some has reported the loading and is waiting a reply.

That's really disappointing, especially as you have strive for perfection unlocked. So it must be glitched.

Just got this today. I did not date change, and I only started trying about a month ago. I also did go back and do previous day's challenges, as I am also going for the "Strive for Perfection" (sooo close). So I guess the count resetting issue mentioned above is fixed, at least at this point. But I did make sure to always do at least one challenge from the current day. I also completely exited the game and re-opened every day so that the "Daily Challenges" panel showed today's date. (Had to re-open twice for this to happen.)

The method you have described sounds like, you set the clock once and didn't update it, and you used the calendar to select the daily challenge, if that is correct it won't work. Do not use the calendar to select the challenge.

Just to be clear, set the clock to Jan 1st, complete a daily challenge for Jan 1st. Then change the date to Jan 2nd then complete a daily challenge for Jan 2nd. Repeat until the end of the month.

"Come back each day" means log into Xbox live each day and complete the daily challenge for that day.

Alternatively keep the current date, then complete a challenge for the current day. Wait until the next day then complete the current challenge for the day. Repeat for a month.

i have a question when you go back from the in game calendar and do earlier days challenges does that break the streak?, i'm only asking because that's what i have been doing since March 2nd and the achievement still hasn't popped for me. I've never change the date on my computer just because i didn't want to mess this up but this month of June i'm only sticking to just doing the daily challenge without going back to see if i finally get this.

i'm still having trouble with this one, still hasn't popped every other achievements i got with no problem, i have been completing challenges everyday since March 2nd but i would then go back from the game calendar and finish previous challenges just so i would have enough points to get my gold medal, and i thought by doing that i was breaking the streak since the achievement never popped but last month June i only did the daily challenges for that day without going back and still never got the achievement. i uninstalled the game from my computer this month and re downloaded it to see if that helps but i'm gonna stop doing the daily challenges for a month to see if maybe that works.

Ok so I just got the 5 day achievement (July 31-August 4). I then decided to fix the date and closed the app via Task Manager. When I tried to reopen the game it had the original issue (the same issue which caused me to quit playing it) where it would load for a few seconds then crash. After 45 minutes I somehow got it to load (and now shows Aug. 4), but I don't it will change to Aug 5, 6, 7, ect...

Since I got the 5 days in a row (and it always showed July 31), I think I might still have a chance of getting Marathon. I'll message back at the end of the month.

----
Has anyone else experienced the issue where you cannot load the app? If so, how do you fix it? Currently I can only load the app from the Games app. I have a few more months of playing this game and don't want to have to deal with this issue if someone knows a fix around it.

I think this is useful information for others as its not completely clear what the criteria are for unlocking this. That's why I wrote the solution conservatively, that is repeat the challenges in date order, just in case it doesn't unlock and waste anyone's time. Other reasons are for writing it conservatively are; that it should have unlocked for me when the title update went live on the 26th as I had 5 Perfect months Oct 14 - Jan 15 (that is complete all the daily challenges in a month). On the 28th February it should have unlocked for me as I had a perfect month and it didn't. I thought the achievement was glitched and that's when I tried changing the date and even then it unlocked 12th after repeating only 12 challenges.

I looked at the date you unlocked the achievement and its logged as the 1st March, yet you say the last challenge you completed was on 22nd (When I unlocked the challenge on the 12th, my PC date was set to the 12th, it was actually the 28th, and that's what the server would be set to). Others also have date stamps before the title update was released, so I assume the date is taken from the PC, not the server. Out of interest, what date was the PC set to when you completed the challenge on the 22nd?

If you don't want to do this legit by completing one Daily Challenge every day from the 1st day to the last day, here is a guide:

Change your date settings through Control Panel/Settings on your Windows 10/8 PC for the first day of one month which is already passed by now, like February 2017. Each time you complete a Daily Challenge for a day, exit out of the Daily Challenges menu then change the date from there, complete, then repeat until you complete one Daily Challenge for the last day of the month you are getting this achievement for.

I recommend you do this on a February (not in a leap year) since there are 28 days, which is much shorter by a few days compared to the 30 days/31 days in a month. If you have two devices (say a computer for the game and a phone for watching YouTube solitaire solutions), then you can watch Marcela Martinez and Zeming Jin's video solutions on how to complete the daily challenges if you are having some hard time trying to complete Daily Challenge(s).

This is very similar to "Gimme Five!" but extended out for an entire month. Again, you don't have to finish every challenge on the day that it's released, but you do need to finish at least one on that day that it comes out, every day, for a month.

0
0
As the achievement description says, you need to complete at least one daily challenge every day of a month on that day of the month. Keep in mind two important things: this must be a calendar month, not just 30 or 31 consecutive days; and you must do it from the first of the month to the last day of the month without skipping around.

Naturally you could just do this starting from the first of the month and log back in every day and do at least one daily challenge each day, but if you don't want to risk accidentally missing a day, it's much safer to simply change the date on your Windows 10 device to the 1st of an earlier month. Do at least one challenge that day, then change the date to the 2nd of the month. Repeat for every day of the month and the achievement will unlock after completing a daily challenge on the last day.

Note that it may be worth your while to combine this achievement with the "Strive for Perfection" achievement, which has you completing every daily challenge in an entire month. Since you have to do that anyway, might as well do them on all the actual day of the month to get this achievement too.

The main thing is to do this every day without interruption. You can follow the achievement statistics in the Additional section - Awards and achievements - Achievements for tasks / Marathon
The fastest time to do this is in February!
