How to unlock the Well Played achievement in Microsoft Solitaire Collection - Definitive Guide

If like me you suck at this game and actually don't like it fear not as this will be cake.

Might take a few games as it is entirely possible to get a deal that is not winnable.

Choose the game type Klondike, once it begins press the 'H' key on the keyboard and it will suggest a move for you to make, do so....... you can see where this is going right? Keep pressing H for move suggestions and in around 6 minutes you will have the achievement :D

You have a higher chance of not getting stuck / completing on the first game with Spider. It takes a bit longer, but it's easy (especially with the H trick)

I just don't see how this is possible.

Why is Solitaire so popular if 9/10 times it's impossible to win?

Has anybody else been stuck on this?

I've played 53 games now (a combination of Spider and Klondike) and I get "no more moves" every time.

I agree that Spider is better. Got it on my first or maybe second try with Spider. Klondike is a little faster, but I lost time after time.

What a pain in the ass. I remember playing this years ago on Windows XP and everything went well. Somehow in this version 99.9% of the games are uncompleteable. Finally got it after at least 30 tries in a Spider game. Not by using hints (i noticed sometimes the hints skip viable options) but playing it the old fashioned way.

It didn't used to be so uncompletable. I played maybe 10 games of Klondike and got stuck each time. So I switched to Spider and got it on my first try.

It might be helpful to add that on Klondike (classic) you should change the settings by moving your mouse into the top right corner then click the settings icon (cog) and then select "Game Options" and change your card draw to 1 (default is 3) it makes it much much easier to win a classic game when you don't get blocked by the 3 card draw

note: this is for winning a game of classic or "Klondike" solitaire

Calex dEUS has a good point in that the "H" key will help you if you are stuck on a move however one key thing to make sure you do is change the games settings so you only flip 1 card instead of 3 from the draw pile, this will save you many more "no moves left" games ending because you will have the full draw pile at your disposal.

They have kind of burred settings in Windows 8 and took me a while to find. when you are on the games home page drag your mouse to the top right corner of the screen to bring up the menu thing. then select the settings icon (cog), from there you should see "Game Options" select that and change card draw from 3 and put it on 1 card draw. took me one game of single card draw vs the 5 that ended with 3 card draw blocking me every time. hope this helps, If I am off with something please let me know.

U2NUMB notes that the settings may be layed out a little differently in Windows 8 (RT) if someone using a surface tablet and can find the setting let me know.

either way you might have to actually be IN a current game for the option to show up. so load a game and try and access the settings after the game has dealt the cards. this may make you re deal the cards but you should be able to win a game pretty easily in 2-3 games max

So on my Surface I do not have that in my game options. I only have sound effects, music, hints, alerts and show tutorial. So maybe it shows differently on an RT version of Windows 8.

Hmm interesting, If you find something let me know but there still should be a setting somewhere to change it to one card draw

Alright figured it out.. you must be IN a game for the settings to show up. From the main game menu the settings change.

This achievement is for winning on ANY of the modes possible. I chose Spider, even though it takes about 10 minutes you have a higher chance of winning more than any other game mode. Just press H and everytime and make sure to follow what it suggests and about 9-10 minutes in you should get the achievement when the win screen pops up.

The easiest card gametype to play, is "Spider". Just stack the cards from King to Ace, and try to get all the cards off the board. If you make a move that makes your stack unsolvable, the game will tell you that you lost, and you'll have to restart. You can use the "Hint" feature at any point, but keep in mind, it won't always give you the best move. I suggest that you leave the hint for parts where you're stuck or unsure of a good move. Take your time to solve a stack to unlock this achievement.

This achievement will unlock upon winning your first game of either Klondike, Spider, or FreeCell on any difficulty. Since you'll need to win 100 games of each of those three games, this achievement will unlock naturally.

In total, the game features 5 different solitaires, you need to win one of them. When you win you get an achievement.
