Keep selecting new game on Hard or Expert until you get a board with the X shape clear in the centre square. You can do this on any difficulty, but more chance of the right squares being clear on the higher difficulties.

Turn on all the help, and use the 3 hints, remembering to keep the X clear. Then solve the puzzle, again not filling in any of the X shape in the middle.

Some notes:
- it took me about 20 restarts to get a leve with the cross open
- you can use notes (the tiny numbers), I left the notes in the cross and the achievement still popped.

You can enter numbers into the X-shaped cells, just as long as you delete those numbers before you get to five remaining cells.

You do not have to load a new game until you get an x on the square you can load one with missing numbers aswell and just fill it to make an x. I just put in the 2 numbers needed and completed the rest

Main challenge with this one is actually getting a grid that can be used (has the required blanks). I must have seen ~50 boards this morning that all had at least one of the required blank shapes as a clue.

I can confirm what SweptbackFlame says. You don't need JUST the 'X' to appear at the beginning of the game. As long as those 5 squares shown in your picture are blank, you can fill in the remaining squares. Just make sure those 5 squares are the last ones filled in and the achievement will pop. After the pop, fill in those last 5 squares to complete the game.
