How to unlock the The White Rider achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Game of the Year Edition - Definitive Guide

This is easier than it may seem. Go after this when you've unlocked a few skills like Shadow Mount and maxed out your elf shot.

It can be done on either map

1) tame a Caragor - use shadow mount if you've learned the skill
2) now ride around the map liberating slaves.

You don't need to actually kill the captors. Just shoot them or slash at them with your sword. You will know the slaves were liberated when the note on the left of the screen that shows new XP says 'slaves liberated'. When this pops up, you can ride on to the next group of slaves.

Don't look around trying to spot slaves. Keep an eye on your map. You are looking for red arrows (uruks) with a bunch of small black- whitish triangles (slaves)

DO NOT GET OFF your Caragor.... this will reset the timer. (You might do this by accidentby hitting the mounted takedown button for example)

I hope this helps.

Any suggestions as to where on the map to start this?

If anyone is looking for good areas to start the Black Road and Udun (4 connected map areas) have a ton of slaves in that area. Fast travel to the Udun Foothills tower and have at it.

Nurn is definitely the way to go. Did it in about 120 seconds. Great guide!

I have been trying for days with no luck.
Observations so far are that slaves on their road to freedom can die to:
1) Footsoldiers hunting them down; even footsoldiers NOT originally being their masters.
2) Archers. Archers will snipe slaves that are trying to escape and finally...
3) Caragors, who will hunt and kill escaping slaves on sight....

In the South West corner is a spawn spot for Caragors and this is often a path that slaves will make a run to so this needs special attention! If 3 Caragors spawn, I befriend 2 and use the 3rd.

So for something that would seem easy, it's pretty finicky, because there is no counter/timer/health bars on screen to guide you to let you know your progress!

EDIT: Finally got it but had to liberate 9 groups (of 10?) in 3 mins. So a 1:3 ratio which isn't really explained in the achievement description....HTH

I found that you may have to linger in the vicinity for a few seconds to ensure that the game properly counts the number of slaves that have been liberated. If you leave too soon, you may only be granted the experience reward for one or two of them. This might be why the achievement isn't unlocking for some people.

I tried to just ride around and look for slaves on my mini map but never could find them quickly enough. Got it my first try using the video TheHighSaiyan posted in their comment.

This video shows a great path to take for this achievement. I found running down the path once didn’t get it but I turned around and followed it back to the starting point and the slave pockets had respawned, and I was able to get the achievement.

This is by far the most annoying one achievement of this game. Is luck based and there is no counter nor timer for slaves saved nor the 3 minute limit.

The second map is the place where I did this, starting from the Tower in the left lower corner of that map, shadow mounted a Caragor and just went running, climbing and saving slaves as soon I saw them until cheevo popped.

I had read that returning to the tower and repeating the run keep the slaves counter on, and that slow motion or pausing the game stops the timer too, but I can't confirm it. Will upload a video later on.

I did 5 groups in what felt like 5 minutes. I surely should have had it, but didn't. I may have killed some slaves though, is that bad?

This is another GREAT video by Powerpyx.....it helped me get this annoying cheevo on the 360, and it helped me get it again on the Xbone....

I'd suggest branding any captains that are long the route as I lost time to their cut scenes every time I tried. Once they're branded they do not interrupt your run.

Can you do this whenever you want to during the two maps? For instance, if you liberate these slaves once can you come back to this location and try again or are they gone?

took me 3 times, and it popped half way through the third. note: I used a modified path. i first liberated the slaves in the far-SW below the tower. then went to the crop at the video states, and continued on.

I can confirm that you can do this even after finishing all the liberation quests. I did this after getting the Liberator achievement. The path taken in this video should provide ample slave camps

Following powerpyx’s path is the way to go, much easier than looking around on mini map. Ps, being day is also key, there are hardly no slaves out at night.

This Achievement is glitchy; either you don’t have to physically be on the Caragor for it to count or it has a severe delay. I was well into a story mission when it unlocked for me. I did set a Caragor free and summon more, maybe they attacked slave holders and I didn’t see.

Either way, for those going for this Achievement, take it easy if it doesn’t unlock right away; it might just be on a delay.
