How to unlock the Burning Vengeance achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Definitive Guide

I did this in combat using the fire arrow ability.

You will need these skills unlocked :

Execution
Fire Arrow
2x Executions for one mutliplyer

Optional
Ignore a hit breaking your combo
5x ability instead of 8x

Then you just gotta find a small group (i used one in the fishing village), build the multiplier, set the berserker on fire and quickly finish him.

Below if a brief video guide I made =]

Make sure you put them between other enemies if you can. Also lean in the direction of the execution with cn_LS

I wish I could up vote a comment! Bully of Smeg is correct - get right beside him before you fire the fire arrow then IMMEDIATELY mash the execution buttons. Worked first try for me after this! (And I DID have epic runes equipped, if anyone is wondering.)

I found that aiming the fire arrow at an enemy next to the beserker was easier. Might be the runes i had equipped but when i shot the beserker itself, it would die immediatly, while aiming at the enemy next to him still set him on fire but i had some time to execute. Thumbd up anyway.

Yep just kept trying over and over again until it decided to pop. but Bully is right gotta do it quick and I guess you can take in effect that some executions are quicker than others so just keep trying until your character decides to kill him quickly while the fugly uruk still on fire. See my video with 2 attempts the second one displays a text on the top right hand corner " Completed 1 of 1"

You just have to be super quick after hitting him with the arrow as in milliseconds. So you need to be hitting them with the arrow while right next to them and move your fingers straight to Y+B. I think it should be part of the guide how important that part is. Cheers for the guide though helped me straight away!

OK, I've worked out for anyone having issues with this achievement that you need to be VERY quick between the setting alight and the execution! Make sure you are standing RIGHT NEXT to the berserker when you se him ablaze and then IMMEDITATELY hit the execution. If you wait a second or 2, even though you will get the execution sequence, I think he will already be dead from the flames and it wont register! I did this multiple times and it was only when I attempted it VERY quickly that it registered.

Hope that helps.

Hello, idk if its anywhere else, but hope it helps someone. Just did it very easy way, having all those abilities and also all runes epic (with epic rune for 50% slower focus depletion on bow and also faster charge ability for bow).

Just find a berserker with a good view on 5 other uruks and stand next to him close enough for execution but safe that he doesnt hit you.

Enter bow aim mode and headshot 5 uruks, then shoot fire arrow in berserkers leg (he is unharmed to this point), exit aim mode and immediately press execution with sword....should be no problem.

1) Get your sword combo up to +5 (or +8 if not "perked" for +5) so you can shoot a fire arrow. 2) After seeing your combo on the left side of your hud hit 5 (or 8 if need be) IMMEDIATELY HOLD DOWN the left trigger so you go into "slowmode" and befoe you let loose a fire arrow at him; move RIGHT NEXT TO HIM and shoot a fire arrow in him with RB. 3) Now IMMEDIATELY move a touch forward towards him while at the same time going for your Y+B button combo. DO THIS THIRD PART VERY QUICKLY!!! Got it on my third attempt...the first two being practices. Also OldManSolus"s guide and video follows this strategy which you should really watch!!! (Tried the fire method along with the exploding fire method with no luck after 90+ minutes).

For people who didn't get it through the story, here's an easy campfire spawn. Go to the Forge Tower in the Black Road. It's the most northeastern one in the first area. Head a little north from the tower and you'll see a campfire with a few orcs around it. Check to see if there's a Berserker in the group. If not, fast travel to the same tower and repeat till there's a Berserker. Once there is, eliminate all the orcs except for him.

When it's just you and the Berserker, build up your Combo. Then when you have your special, grab with R Bumper, throw him into the fire, double tap A AROUND the campfire, and then hit Y + B to execute him. If you did it fast enough, the achievement will unlock.

Some things to keep in mind is that stunning him will put out the flame so make sure you have your special ready. This includes the B stun and stunning while leaping over him. The reason why you dodge roll around the campfire is because if you try to use your special when the campfire is between you and him, Talion will get stuck running towards the fire and he won't get through it, thus extinguishing the flame on the Berserker and maybe even your combo. It is helpful to get the Critical Strike abilities to get your combo up quicker.

Obviously using a rune that ignites your enemies is super helpful and makes it so you won't have to depend on a campfire, but those rune drops are quite random. A guaranteed flame rune is the Flame of Arnor, which you get as a pre-order bonus from Best Buy, or buying the Season Pass. Also, Fire arrows do not work since they finish off the Berserker before you can execute him.

Good luck! I know this was quite frustrating for me to get.

Excellent - thanks.
I kept losing my streak though because there was always 5 or 6 and an archer up top... I ended up taking out the archer and brutalizing one of the randoms near the fire to scare a couple off... extra benefit of getting streak straight off the bat from the brutalize.

Every time I've used fire arrows, they either die before my execution or I must just do the execution too soon because the achievement doesn't pop. I will try the Flame of Arnor method as I did grab the Season Pass.

Find a Berserker: an uruk double wielding axes who can't be attacked straight forward from the front, preferably one that is part of a small group. Once you have a multiplier of 5x or 8x, grab him and throw him into a campfire and perform the execution (Y + A). This can also be done by setting him on fire with your fire arrows and quickly executing him. Stay close to him so he doesn't die by fire damage before you get the chance to execute him.

POSSIBLE GLITCH!? : I was finding the achievement to be quite "glitchy", as I had swore I executed the requirement at least 7-10 times perfectly through a combination of fire arrows and tossing the berserker into the fire, then performing the execution. I ran a search and found a discussion of this problem on a steam thread. A user recommended removing epic runes from the dagger and sword. I did so, and the first time I shot a fire arrow at a berserker and then executed him, the achievement popped. I hope this helps someone as I was getting a little frustrated.

*I added the solution because I didn't want the rune glitch to be lost in the pile of comments.

I can also confirm the epic rune glitch. I did the fire arrow + execute method many times with no achievement. Once I removed all epic runes and did it again it popped first try. I'm not sure if it is any rune in particular, but a guaranteed fix is to remove all epic runes. Thanks!

Upvoted because this was much easier to do than the fire arrow.

Note that I got this and had numerous Epic Runes equipped, so YMMV about whether you need to unequip them. In any case, this was super easy- I found a berserker alone by a campfire, stunned him, 5 hits, threw into fire, Y+B, done.

Find a berserker around a campfire once you have unlocked the "Storm Of Urfael" ability. It gives you unlimited executions for 20sec making it very easy since you don't have to worry about building a combo. Kill everyone else around him first then throw him in the fire and activate the ability. Very simple.

If you are a low level, it will benefit to get the "First Strike" attribute before attempting this. Then instead of looking for a random Berserker spawn near fire In the open world, in the main story mission "The War-chief" there are two that spawn at the beginning of the mission each time. Make sure to build a combo and use cn_Y+cn_B and that will earn you the achievement!

If you mess up just press start and go to "leave mission" and you can go back to the mission and try again.

Dont use the cn_RB+cn_X or cn_RT+cn_X as these will not get you the achievement!

To get it this way you need two abilities unlocked " fire arrow" and "double charge"

Find a groups of uruks that include a berserker ( one with 2 axes)
build up your hit streak , hit him with a fire arrow then execute.

I stumbled across this little way by accident. Basically you want a beserker about 15-20 feet away from a fire. Detonate the fire and he will drop and burn for a good 3-4 seconds. Much longer than he would if you were to throw him through a fire, so you get extra time to use the Y+B finishing move. Here's a short game dvr showing a perfect location and putting my words into visuals.

Note that after I kill him it pops 'Completed' in the top right od the screen. This acknowledges I did it correctly and will unlock tjr achievement.

This spawn normally has 1-2 zerkers but if they do not spawn/you dont get the achievement you can just fast travel to the tower I show at the end of the video for another shot at it.

Easily done late on in the game. Easiest way I found is once you have the skills "Double Charge" and "Fire Arrow."

Remember the Berserker is the Uruk that will counter all of your regular hits. He usually has two axes . The axes will show up red in his hands when viewed in Wrath Mode.

Once you have those two skills, find a group of enemies that has a Berserker. Get your combo up to where your sword is charged and then use fire arrow by holding cn_L2 for your bow and then press cn_R1 to shoot a fire arrow at him, to set him on fire. Then immediately use your finisher (cn_T + cn_O) to kill him before he dies from the fire itself.

Be sure to be standing somewhat close to him to be sure that the finisher connects with the correct enemy.

Not sure, I haven't played the game since I got the plat. I know I had to do it twice before it registered for me. I think the first time the fire actually killed the enemy before I initiated the execution. Maybe that is it and you are having a spell of bad luck? Are you injuring the target before setting them on fire?

I had a rune equipped where it made my Fire Blast more powerful, hence why I had a hard time using this method. But I took off that rune, tried it again. The Berserker didn't die instantly this time, allowing me enough time to get in the Execution.

Yeah, it worked. Good addition to the solution would be reminding people that a berserker is the Uruk that will show as blue with two large red axes when you view him through the wraith world. I forgot, had to check the tutorial for which one the berserker was again.

Also I kept killing the wrong uruk with the execution so I made sure the berserker was standing apart from the group when I started. That way I could move close to him during slowmo when I had the bow drawn, and nobody would get in my way.

THe whole throwing them in the fire routine is very hard as it requires precise timing and pretty much kills them before you can execute them every time

Easiest way is to simply use the rune that sets them on fire when you counter. Make sure your combo is high enough and hang out around the berzerker. keep countering and he'll burst into blue flames. Execute him and it'll pop. The rune gives you a 16% chance of burning him on counter so within 4 times usually it pops up and you'll get the execution

08 Nov 2014 14:23

1. Unlock the Fire Arrow skill (second to last tier)
2. Unlock the skill that gives you two executions (last tier, Double Charge)
3. Start a hit streak and then use a fire arrow on a Berserker and then quickly execute him.

You can identify a berserker by his two weapons (from here: https://gaming.stackexchange.com/a/186152/80141)

Just to add onto the other fire arrow or camp fire solutions. Be aware by the time you are at the end game you will be very powerful which means if you use the Black Road location which is the first map tossing a guy in the fire or shooting him with the fire arrow will certainly kill them regardless of whether you have a rune to increase arrow damage or any other damage buff. But campfires are a good gathering place so just find one, I used the one in watchers landing just right of the 2 piers by the big L shaped building.

I would maybe suggest trying to get this one as soon as you can after you unlock the 2x execution, fire arrow, and Blade Master that reduces the time it takes to charge execution, fire arrow, and brand from 8x to 5x.

29 Nov 2014 16:26

I also had trouble with the timing for throwing them in the fire. And since I was doing this as part of a cleanup run, my character was too strong and I kept killing them when I used the fire arrow.

So this is my desperation solution: Equip the Burning Pitch Rune and walk into the middle of a stronghold and start kicking ass. After about 20 minutes and 3 epic battles the achievement popped. I did it 3 times before it popped but it eventually did.

I know it's not perfect but, it was way more fun than running around looking for berserkers. You may have the Burning Pitch Rune and not even know it, so take a peek.

There is a rune which is dropped that causes some of your quick tap throwing knives to set the target on fire (I think it's every third knife). If you're lucky and manage to find that rune, then it's safer to start throwing them at a berserker to set them alight as the knives do little damage yet will build up your hit streak.

Once the berserker bursts into flames, hit them with the execution.

It will not be until the fifth Urfael Legend Mission that the game introduces you to Berserker enemies. You can tell them apart quite easily as Berserkers are the larger-sized Uruks that wield dual axes.

At anytime after the aforementioned mission, you will now need to locate a Berserker around Mordor or inside a Uruk Stronghold. Once you find one, build up your combo meter so that is turns red and lure the Berserker near a campfire. Be ready to push/throw him into the fire so that he catches ablaze. You will have a short window of time to pull off the execution finisher (+) so act quickly!

Berserkers are large Uruk that dual wield one-handed axes and take additional effort to kill. They are the rarest kind of Uruk in Udun which can make this trophy difficult if you don’t find the right location, but they are very common in Nurn.

Berserker with his axes sheathed. They will always appear red which makes them easy to distinguish.
The easiest location in the game to perform this is in Nurn, just southwest of the Fern Outskirts Forge Tower. Fast travel to the tower and walk forward and look down and to the left. You’ll see a camp fire with a bunch of Uruk around it. Zoom in with + and try to see if there is a dual wielding Uruk. If there is head down and kill the enemies around it without stepping into the fire, or pushing another Uruk in it.

The two best methods for performing an execution on a Berserker require either a campfire and the Execution ability, or the skills Fire Arrow, Execution, and Double Charge. The easiest is the latter but you need Tier 5 power to achieve it.

Fire Arrow and Double Charge
Find a Berserker at the above location and go down to the enemies. Walk directly up to the Berserker, and shoot arrows or melee a different target until your hit streak is charged. Once it is charged use + to shoot a single Fire Arrow at the Berserker, then immediately hit + to perform the Execution and unlock the trophy. This is the easiest method but it takes the longest to perform in terms of character progression.

Campfire and Execution
Find a Berserker at the above location as described. Once you are clear of enemies or have enough space/hit streak, grab and hold on on to the Berserker with and toss him towards the campfire. The instant he hits the fire use your execution (+) while aiming towards him. Either use + to freely execute or build up your hit streak prior to grabbing the Berserker. If it doesn’t work you can clear out the rest of the enemies and Fast Travel back to the tower to try again.

A guaranteed spot to find a Berserker early on in the game is during the main story mission “The Warchief”. At the beginning of “The Warchief” you will have to kill two Berserkers in order to draw out the Warchief. Rather than outright killing them, ascend the tower and run past them both. Take a left and then jump off of the bridge to your left. You will see a fire and possibly some enemies surrounding it.

Bereserker's during "The Warchief" mission are even shaded gold to easily find
Kill the enemies near the fire if they are standing by it and be sure not to push any into the fire, or walk over it yourself. The Berserkers will follow you down the ladder and begin to fight you. Once they are relatively close you should use your bow and shoot some enemies until you have a hit streak high enough to use your + execute. The second you do, grab and hold the nearest Berserker with and throw him in to the fire. Do this by walking towards it and then releasing .

If you've already completed the "Warchief" mission you can play “The Dark Monument” instead. After passing the Ghul you will reach some ruins with Uruk in it. To the far left is one Berserker and right near the fire is another. Use the same method as above to unlock the trophy.

Method number 1 with a burning arrow and a finishing move does not work. Game version 1.08

The method is simpler than in the video above https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QknL93plewk

This video helped, a good place is next to the tower, if the bers is not near the fire, we move to the tower and go to the fire again, once out of 5 it will definitely sit.

It is best to do this during a rainy pagoda, then the fires will not go out and there will be a few papytok.

The method with fire arrows and subsequent execution works. For ease of obtaining, download the “Double Onslaught” skill and everything will work out. Version - 1.09

1. You need BERSERK and some other Uruk
2. You need a skill that allows you to use a super skill 2 times (execution, fire arrows)
3.Make kombu 5 according to uruk.
4. Shoot fire arrows at BERSERK
5. He is set on fire and we simply execute him

It's better to try in every fight from the very beginning of the game. When you see a berserker (two red axes when switching to ghost mode), try to either throw him into the fire with the meter charged and execute him, or, later, after pumping up a burning arrow, charge the meter, release the arrow and execute him. It’s better to do it as you go, as it will be boring later.

Looking for any fire. Come, use a bow in slow motion to kill everyone except the berserker (an orc with two axes), by this moment you will already have at least 5 kills and the counter will be red, grab the orc, throw it over the fire, activate Execution and the trophy is yours. Burning arrows don't work.

I found another way - the legendary rune for the sword "Burning Resin" - simply counterattack (triangle) the berserker until the rune works and it lights up and press execution

I actually found it funny. I found a fire, found a berserker, threw him over the fire and pressed the wrong button - in the end I branded him. Killed the rest of the enemies, went up to his branded berserker - threw him through the fire (he didn’t even resist ) and pressed R3+L3 (it was fully accumulated), and then finished it off.

You don't even need a fire. Take your time, upgrade your character and so on, the necessary skills
1) Blademaster (reduces the series threshold to 5 hits)
2) Fanaticism ( + kills the enemy causing everyone to run away in fear)
3) Fire arrow (allows you to shoot a fire arrow through the combo counter )
4) Double onslaught (allows you to use 2 special moves while counting)
And so we found a crowd where there is a berserker, we attack through + on anyone except the berserker, the machine gun counter charges to 5 (what is needed) everyone runs away, aim with a bow at the berserker and shoot with a fiery arrow (minus one special move, but due to the double onslaught we have one more) the berserker is on fire, press + Let's execute the berserker.
Everything is very simple, terribly simple. No costing diamonds and filling the counter, and the hero executes the wrong person or the bers dies from fire earlier, there is none of this.

There are two simple ways, both of them require a pumped-up hero:

1) Pump up the “Double Onslaught” skill, with the burst counter charged, it will allow you to carry out 2 special attacks, one we use for a fire arrow, the second for execution. Easy.

2) Here you will have to practice, and you need Urfael's sword. In general, we accumulate the streak counter, shoot a fiery arrow, and sharply press L3 + R3, you will have unlimited executions, quickly run up to the berserker and execute.

This is a tedious achievement in the game, so prepare in advance.
Arrows don't work on the latest version of the game! (exploding barrels don't work either)
1) pump up to the fullest
2) we go to the fortress and start hitting everyone
3) berserkers come running
4) we try to drag them to the fire
5) hammer 5 times on them (or on another uruk)
6) quickly grab the berserker
7) throw into the fire
8) we pray to all the gods that the execution time does not disappear (or some Uruk does not fuck you and interrupt your series of blows)
9) execute the berserker while he is burning
10) rejoice or cry and try again for the hundredth time.

People! I decided to make everything much simpler, regarding attempts, but more sophisticated... You can do it on the first try in the Light Lord dlc. We go through the dlc, build all the towers - then in this place there will be branded enemies in any case (if the berserker does not appear, then we will respawn in the same place); Next, we charge the ring and calmly approach the berserker, throw it into the fire, activate the ring and cut it. I am attaching a video.

I struggled with this trophy for a long time, then I googled it, and in one of the English-language comments on YouTube I found a way to get the trophy out the first time.

The main reason for the complexity of the trophy is that when a berserker is encountered, it is far from certain that there will be a fire nearby, or there will still be a fire, but someone will put it out with one awkward movement, or there will be a lot of people around - in such a meat grinder someone will constantly interfere.

Solution:

-in the free world, in any skirmish, when we meet a berserker (such a healthy orc with two weapons (one ax in each hand), we first knock him out (I knocked him out on , as an option, you can jump over (if the corresponding perk has been upgraded))

-then we carry out a series of blows (4-5 (maybe 6) pieces - so that he doesn’t die).

- “without leaving the cash register” we go into concentration mode shoot with a fiery arrow into the body. The orc will catch fire (this is wrong).

-and, since we already have a series of hits on the same orc, we carry out the execution ( + ).

Voila: trophy received

Yes, I forgot to add: from the description, I think it’s clear that at the very beginning of the game this method will not work - the character needs to be upgraded in the skills of execution, fire arrows, knocking out and accelerating the gain of experience with a series of hits (I’m not sure about the name of the last perk). He knocked it out at the end of the game - that’s why almost all his skills were already open).
