How to unlock the Hot Flashes achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Definitive Guide

MISSABLE ACHIEVEMENT!

can only be done on DLC map location, not in normal campaign.

just to let anyone know that the Ghul Matrons only spawn in the Torvin missions so make sure you pick this up either in Matrons mission or the last one, if you still haven't got it before you kill the last few, quit the mission and restart.

GET THIS DURING MATRONS RISING JUST TO BE SAFE!

if you have maxed out your character in main game then you should have fire arrows unlocked and can use these with RB after getting hit score up to 5.

if not you will have to blow up a camp fire, the green circle furthest north in ruins has camp fire .kill the Orcs first.
if you do fail to get it in the campaign missions, I'm afraid they don't spawn anywhere, regardless of day/night (spent hours looking) and will have to start a new save for this DLC and do it again...

BUT THIS ONLY TAKES 10 MINUTES.. go to save slots. Select new save slot. Play DLC do 1st mission then go to far left off map.. Select Matron level.. Ta da.

have been on various sites seeing if anyone has found a spawn location.. but nothing (unless they patch it in)

The mission was on the far left of the map in my game - I'm not sure if it's different each game or not. The mission is called "Matrons Rising" and you get the first matron after the initial introduction to bating ghuls. When they appear they have a yellow icon on their head.

He was pointing out that you said far right, but it is on the far left, so you might want to edit that. Good guide though.

(GOTY EDITION) I missed it during the campaing. But I got it in the Test of the Wild. I went to a duel mission and ghuls appeared, soon a Ghul Matron came and I managed to shoot it on fire, unlocking the achievement.
Don't know if just wandering they would appear or the fact that I was on a mission helped.

Anyone else having trouble with getting this to unlock? I used my Fire Arrow ability and detonated a campfire on a ghul matron a total of three times and nothing happened (all during the Matron Rising mission).

In the mission to bait Ugakuga you flood the stronghold with ghuls and there are many matrons.

One way of finding a Ghûl Matron after completed the DLC Story is a side Mission Called "A Feast Of Flesh"

You need the ability "Fire Arrow" to complete it this way. When you find one, get your hit-streak up enough to use the "fire Arrow" ability and shoot it.

Simple achievement, I got this unintentionally when I hit a Ghûl Matron with a fire arrow. No need to lure one to a campfire or anything annoying like that.

If you accidentily finished the story line and no not cross paths with another matron anymore, you can also:

- Select new Save slot from main menu
- Start a 'new' Lord of the Hunt campaign
- After the first obligatory mission (Torvin and Caragaths), do the "Matrons Rising" mission (South East of the map)
- In the second or third nest you'll encounter a Matron. Fire 4 regular arrows, then do a Fire Arrow (left control button).
- Achievement pops

During the mission entitled “Matrons Rising,” Talion will be asked to bait the Ghul mounds around Nurn in order to lure the Matrons out of their hives. It’s worth noting here that there are about five mounds during this mission, three of which will lure Matrons into the wild.

As soon as you see a Matron, enter Focus Mode by holding the left trigger and then activate the Flame of Azkar ability by tapping both thumbsticks in. Now you will be able to shoot Fire Arrows by tapping , so steady your shot and pierce one of the Matrons with a Fire Arrow. As soon as she lights ablaze, this achievement will unlock.

There are only two ways to achieve this trophy. You must either explode a campfire next to a Ghûl Matron or use a Fire Arrow on her. The Fire Arrow is far easier.

To use a Fire Arrow, your Hit Streak must be at least 5 (with Ranger skill Blade Master) or 8. Once your Hit Streak is red, you can use a Fire Arrow by pressing +.

It can be an absolute pain trying to make a Ghûl Matron spawn outside of a DLC mission so you really want to make sure that you get this easily during one of the missions. However, if you have already finished them all then restarting the DLC is your fastest route as the first mission below is immediately available after the introduction mission. These are the missions that spawn a Ghûl Matron:
  • Matrons Rising
  • Stronghold Uprising
  • A Feast Of Flesh
The trophy will pop as soon as the Ghûl Matron catches on fire.

Try to do during the main story or an additional quest (festival of the flesh), charge the bow to the red combo and press or bow ult (if charged) at the ghula matriarch, it is also possible to do it through a fire or barrels, but it’s easier and faster during the main mission, just don’t forget that you need to do it ^^ otherwise you’ll lose a lot of time.

In the mission "Feast of the Flesh" there are locations in the camps. It is necessary to call the glurkhs and wait for them at the fire

During the expansion, The Great Hunt
There will be tasks to destroy the Khul, just gain points and shoot a fire arrow at the Ghul Matriarch

I missed this achievement while playing through the expansion, and when I completed it completely, I was faced with the problem that the matriarch did not go outside, no matter how much he destroyed the ghoul traps, cleared the caves, or simply stumbled upon them at night... even when all 3 ran away with badge on the head, all to no avail... they simply buried themselves in the traps and no one else came out, and those in the non-traps simply came out with new meat, without a matriarch.
In general, the following helped: in the main menu, there are saves, select a new slot, launch the Great Hunt add-on and after completing the first quest you will be given the task of exterminating the ghouls and the matriarch will appear there as usual
