How to unlock the Liberator achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Definitive Guide

This achievement can be incredibly tedious, but each individual mission doesn't actually require a lot of work.

As you run around Mordor, killing Uruks and riding Caragors you'll see little white fists on the map, go to these locations and kill the Uruks guarding or beating a slave, the freed slave will then issue you mission by saying "We tried to poison the grog but they knew it was us, please help the others" or something to that effect.

You will then find the mission on the map which is shown as a white fist in a black coat of arms, similar to the legend mission logos.

The mission is to free sets of slaves tied to poles any way you wish, so you can stealth it and kill everyone before freeing them, kill no one, or run in and cut them all down.

There are 24 missions in total, 12 in each area of Mordor, the first 7-9 of each area should only ask you to free 3 slaves, then 5, and the final mission in Udûn will ask for you to free 7, but in Núrn you will approach a fighting pit with around 11 slaves.

After freeing 2 slaves during the final area missions, other freed slaves will appear and help you fight Uruks or free captives, speeding up the process.

After completing your final mission the achievement will pop as you are paid for completing the mission.

Edit - Thanks to Obi Jase - If the fist icon isn't appearing then travelling back to the first area (or second depending where you currently are) this should then spawn the missing icons, allowing for completion.

As an extra note I was having trouble finding any more 'fist' icons which unlock the main mission - I think I had 5 left to do at the time when they disappeared. I swapped back to the first area and one appeared. I completed the mission and no more again. I swapped back to the second area and back to the first area and the icon appeared again in the same place. I repeated this for all 5 missing missions and got the achievement.

Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone was having the same issue.

Did this glitch for anyone else? I completed all 24 but no achievement.

I had the last mission as described and I rescued the slaves but no achievment. I see 23/24 missions completed but no further fist appear. Glitch?

While playing through the game, you may notice two different icons appearing on your map. The first icon is just a fist, which shows up on your minimap, but not on your large map (much like herbs). This indicates a group of slaves that can be freed by killing the Orc slavers.

Freeing these slaves creates a new icon on the map. This icon is a fist emblem with an outline around it. These show up on both maps and indicate the missions that you need to complete to unlock this trophy. There are 24 in all. Generally, they aren't particularly hard so much as just tedious.

The convenient thing about unlocking this missions is that the slaves that you need to free don't appear randomly. If you find a location with slaves, you'll generally continue to find slaves there provided you fast travel at some point to reload the map. The easiest to find is a small group just east of the central tower in the first area.

Keep in mind that the missions are actually broken up into two groups. After you've unlocked enough missions (I think twelve or so), you need to complete all of those missions first before the "Free Slaves" icons show up again. The reason for this is that the missions get harder after that and they want to be sure that you finish the first set before allowing you to unlock the next set. Once you finish that first set of missions, you'll start to see the "Free Slaves" icon appear again.

Simply keep fast traveling and returning to the same spots to unlock the missions. Finish all the ones you unlock, unlock the next batch, complete those. The final mission will be a trap where you need to free quite a few slaves from an arena. It's actually not that bad though as a group of Outcasts will come to help you, and they'll even start untying the slaves for you. Once this mission is complete, you'll get your trophy.

Outcast Rescue Missions are a two-part event. In order to unlock these missions, you will first need to liberate various groups of slaves around the different regions of Mordor. Slave group locations are indicated by a small white fist icon on the world map. After freeing a group of slaves, they will thank Talion and mention a few words on helping out their friends/families.

This will now unlock and mark an Outcast Rescue Mission on the world map that is indicated by an even larger white fist icon inside a black shield. Simply head over to this mission start point and complete the objective at hand. These missions are fairly straightforward, as they usually pertain to simply rescuing three or more slaves inside Uruk infested areas or strongholds. Overall, there’s twenty-four of these side missions. Once they have all been successfully completed, this achievement will finally unlock.

Outcast Rescue Missions will not be available until you complete the “Outcasts” main story mission in Udun. There are a total of 24 and you can check your progression by pressing , going to Upgrades, then press twice to see the Progress tab.

Outcast Rescue Missions are obtained by freeing specific slaves with the Outcast fist mark over their heads. After doing so, a mission will become available somewhere on the map that you can then complete. Each mission always revolves around rescuing captured slaves from the Uruk, and rewards between 125 to 400 Mirian, plus an additional 50 for the bonus objective, along with 400 EXP.

An outcast slave as seen on the mini-map and in the world
The maximum number of missions you can have active at any given time, in either Udun or Nurn, is 4. Once you reach 4, you will have to complete all available missions on the map to start another set of 4. Both Udun and Nurn have 12 missions each meaning there are 3 sets of 4 missions on either map, for a total of 24.

Because these missions take anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes to complete they are the best source of easy EXP and Mirian in the game. Be sure to complete them early on to quickly boost your character’s power.

It took me a bit to realize that but if you do not see any new missions or opportunities to free slaves (the fist symbol) just progress the day. Most times you can see a fist on your map right after to unlock another mission.

There are slaves with a fist sign on the map, usually appearing near the towers. When they are released, they are given a task. You need to complete all the chains of these tasks on both maps.

On the first map is the last task: uprising.

On the second: to freedom.

Not entirely true.
In total you need to do 2424
When you complete about half of the tasks (with a fist on the icon), “Uprising” will open to you on the first map. The same goes for the second cart ''Towards Freedom''. After this you will have to complete another 10-12 tasks

There's some drunken nonsense upstairs.
There are 24 liberation tasks in total, 12 for each map.
As you progress through the story in free mode, random slaves with a fist icon above their heads appear; freeing one (by dispersing the orcs weaving nearby) gives you access to one of 24 quests to free the outcasts.
Progress on this trophy is visible on the last tab in the upgrade menu; there is no need to remember the names of such quests.

We free the outcasts and receive new tasks to free them. If there are none, click on the tower - acceleration of events, tasks may appear, if not, go to another location, look there
