How to unlock the No Power in Numbers achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Definitive Guide

When you look around the map, you'll notice there are Red boxes that indicate Uruk Captain events. Look for one that says Recruitment and start the mission. The captain will try recruiting new members, bu the orcs will try to kill him. So do your best to kill all the orcs around him while avoiding that captain. If you manage to kill the enemies and the captain is following you, break his line of sight (His indicator will be yellow if he can't see you) and he'll stop looking for you. Eventually, the mission will be complete and he'll gain a power level. Now kill him and any orcs around him as soon as the mission is over and the achievement is yours.

This can also be done with Branded captains. Just complete the mission and kill him and his followers with Dispatch by pressing down on the d-pad if you've unlocked that ability, or kill them the old fashioned way. Thanks to MikeProcurator and xDartz xNVx for confirming.

I also did it with a branded captain, but I got it when I killed all his followers even though I hadn't killed him yet. I think if he is branded, then you don't need to kill him. Definitely easier.

I actually did this when the game glitched and there were no "supporters" for the captain. I just helped him out by killing the enemies before they killed him and then as there were no recruits, got the achievement for only killing him at the end.

I've tried it with branded captains but that didn't work for me. Tried it with a non-branded captain and got it first try.

I can affirm that Dispatch will not work, you must kill the recruits and captain personally. Don't know if branded or not matters.

I did this and the captain never finished looking for supporters. He got one group and then wandered around in circles. I couldn't end it and when I left it said he died. BULLSH*T.

After completing the game, I have branded at least 20 captains in both areas and sent them on initiation missions. I have also completed over a dozen other power struggle events. For some reason no more recruitment missions are spawning. Any ideas? This seems to be a glitch, smh

Great guide. This was the last achievement I got in the game. Had a bunch of branded captains, kept passing time until there is recruitment event, and helped him recruit. He leveled up and then down on d-pad to kill him and 9 of his buddies. Bleep-bloop. Achievement unlocked

This achievement is so damn frustrating. Captains always keep retreating when I'm doing the recruitment missions. This is impossible.

I just unlocked this in a very odd way. The captain fled, and the recruitment was unsuccessful. I then killed the remaining uruks (as I couldn’t fast travel anywhere) and the achievement popped.

Step 1: Unlock "Combat Drain" & "Brand" Abilities (Must Complete "Queen of Shore" Main Mission)
Step 2: Use Combat Drain on a Captain. He must have green health, and this may take many attempts.
Step 3: With a branded Captain, use "Advance Time" until a blue "Recruitment" icon appears on the map. The more branded captains, the more likely this is to appear.
Step 4: Help your Captain with his recruitment.
Step 5: After a successful recruitment, kill all branded (blue) enemies on the mini-map.
This method will also unlock the "A New Master" Achievement:

So I have something I came across today that somewhat adds on to each person's guide and this may in fact simplify them as well. So easiest way I found is to brand a Captain and have him Initiate to be a Bodyguard for a Warchief. Majority of the time the initiation missions are Recruitment events. Once you start the recruitment event it actually highlights the people you need to kill to protect your Captain and as he recruits new followers it adds them to your "Brand" count. Once you help him through 3 waves the mission ends and everyone is branded, right next to you. If you have the ability to eliminate all your branded warriors at once just use cn_down and it'll pop! If not, everyone you would need to kill to get the achievement is nicely highlighted in blue for you to see and attack, and they won't attack you back. It's quite nice!

I just wanted to add that I did this, but when the captain was fighting I hopped down and dominated him and told him to betray the warchief, then the mission didn't really end and the achievement popped.

Recruitments are random Events. These are marked on the Map as a red (Skull) Icon.
External image

If you have no Recruitment Mission then use Advanced Time at a Tower as long as you get a Mission which can take a long Time, so check while playing in between times the Events.
In the Recruitment Event protect the Captain from above and try to remain undetected. If it does happen, like me in the video at the first Group, immediately go into cover and try again to be undetected. There are 3 Groups at this Event and the whole Event takes about 3-4 minutes.
Kill immediately after the Event the Captain and all the other Enemies.

* I had recording issue on my first run where I earned the achievement but I put in the ending.

This can be done in any Recruitment Power Struggle whether it is with a brand captain or a regular captain. The missions themselves consist of keeping the captain alive through 3 groups of enemies while you stay hidden. When the mission is complete and you get the success screen now you proceed and kill everyone around you. Recruit missions are very random so advancing time at the Forge Towers will help.

Follow this steps to get the achievement:

1) Figth with a Uruk Captain and the end of the battle, brand him and set to Command to a Boss initiation.
2) A new quest will be appear - Recruiting
3) Go to this quest and help your branded Captain get new recruits
4) After complete, kill first all normal uruks, after the captain
PS: If you want the ability to destroy all branded uruks, press down key in your control that all uruks will be killed.

The easiest way to do this is wait until you get the ability to brand enemies late in the game. After the mission and learning the skill, buy the skill for dispatch, then play the next mission. "The Power of the Wraith” has you help a captain in a recruitment power struggle, the minute the struggle is over but before the group has walked away (it should say "recruitment successful" press Down on the d-pad and kill the captain. The game will register the trophy and then tell you that you failed the mission. This is fine because you can retry from that point, and got this annoying trophy out of the way.

I made a quick video guide for this achievement! The steps are basically:

1. Find a recruitment mission.
2. Help the captain kill the attacking Uruks WITHOUT him detecting you.
3. He will go to multiple groups of Uruks, and when he is done it will zoom in on him and say success or something along those lines.
4. Kill any followers he has left.
5. Kill him.

I hope this helps!

In order to attempt this achievement, you must first complete enough story missions until Power Struggle Missions appear on your world map. Once a Recruitment Power Struggle is available, head on over to the mission and start it. When the mission begins, be ready to defend the Captain from the opposing Uruk forces. Take note that this may be difficult sometimes!

Overall, if you are successful in completing the mission and helping the Captain survive the Recruitment Power Struggle, now you will need to kill him and all his recruits in order for the achievement to unlock. You can utilize the video below for an alternate strategy if necessary.

A “Recruitment” is one of the seven types of Power Struggles in the game. You can tell which type of event it is by highlighting it and reading the description, as well as the title at the top.

To unlock this trophy, you must first complete the main story mission “Climbing the Ranks” which will make Power Struggles available. However, I suggest not bothering with this trophy until you gain the Command ability from completing main story mission 17, “The Power of the Wraith”. The reason being that once you gain Command you can reliably begin a Recruitment Power Struggle whenever you please, and it is easier to successfully finish as well.

After you gain “Command” find yourself a Captain to dominate and then command with . Command the captain to become the body guard of a Warchief and begin the initiation, which will create the Recruitment Power Struggle.

Travel to the Recruitment Power Struggle and wait until the cutscene ends, then immediately kill the five Uruk marked with yellow circles above their heads. I prefer five headshots with an arrow, but anything works so long as your Captain survives. You will need to kill three sets of five in total to be successful. Once you are informed that he has completed the power struggle, you can slaughter them all, or press on the D-pad to kill the Captain and his remaining followers if you have the Dispatch ability.

We are recruiting a captain. Afterwards, tasks for recruiting new recruits will appear. We help and immediately kill all those who are branded. Make it easier when you have the skill to quickly kill the branded.

It is not necessary to recruit a captain, you can help an ordinary one and then kill everyone.

Also, the prize is not made through reprisals (killing everyone branded with one button).

He branded the captain and sent him to infiltrate the leader’s guard. A recruitment mission opened.

Went through recruitment with a branded captain, pressed dispatch( ), thereby killing the captain and his soldiers... and received a trophy.

I didn’t brand anyone, it’s just that a task appears on the map to weaken the army, where they do the same thing (I just waited until he recruited), then killed him.

I tried everything and it didn’t work, so I’m posting my method.
We brand the captain, break his will during branding and order him to become the leader’s bodyguard. If you have chosen the right leader, then you will have tasks to recruit Uruks. If you get another task, then try ordering an “infiltration” to another leader. During recruitment, we help our Uruk by killing all enemies marked in yellow. After completing the recruitment, we go down to our guys and use the call of the branded (cross up) and only after that we mow down by hand all the Uruks subordinate to you, I took out all the younger Uruks with a bow and killed the captain with a grab. After that I got this trophy.

we catch any captain, brand him, give an order to penetrate the leader’s bodyguards, the “recruitment” mission will immediately appear, we help the captain, after completing the mission we kill the captain and all his allies by pressing the down arrow if the corresponding skill has been upgraded, or manually.
