How to unlock the Baranor the Conqueror achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of War - Definitive Guide

I'll preface this guide by saying the final score you receive at the end of a run highly depends on SPEED, which in having a fast attempt also results in a higher multiplier. You have to receive a gold trophy at the end of your run for this achievement to pop. I recommend playing through Desolation of Mordor once before to acclimate yourself to the new region and new traversal systems. Once you beat the story you may now start a new run that has no missions, just outposts and the fortress!

I ran on Nemesis difficulty which makes enemies smarter and do more damage. Some captains even have a NO CHANCE, so if you die your run is a wipe. My strategy is as follows:

I completed the outposts in a clockwise rotation whilst going for the mercenary discounts first. Then go for extra health pack skills. By your third or fourth outpost you'll most likely be able to afford a Legendary Mercenary as long as you have the three additional discounts!

Once you have all the outposts, I recommend targeting the Warchiefs with either the best disable for the fortress or the most bodyguards to save time for the Siege, of course. I also implore you to fill the outpost slots with the cheapest mercenary you can find so there isn't another orc captain there.

HINT: Constantly update your gear that you find in the field. There are insane abilities you can find that almost cripple the entire game's combat system such as earned might for damage done to your allies by enemies, which delivers you endless might for combat executions.

Also, when choosing mercenaries, make sure to pick the ones with the best abilities while ensuring these potential bodyguards don't have skills that counter each other. I was very lucky to have a Legendary merc that had poison bombs and a reduced cooldown. He completely destroyed adds and captains. Starting off can be difficult, but since this is a Middle Earth game with it's Nemesis System, make sure to exploit the captains' weaknesses.

Now, I didn't kill all the Warchiefs, just the strongest ones or the ones with multiple bodyguards to lighten the load for the final assault! Basic idea for this achievement is to get the best mercs possible the quickest because once you get two or more legendaries, you can SPAM THEM FOR EVERYTHING. This could be for remaining outposts, Warchief missions, and the grand finale.

I almost got screwed going into the overlord fight because I didn't dismiss my bodyguards before I went in, so I had to kill Takra only with Serka. I'm assuming the Overlord is a constant, so he is immune to nearly everything, but I kicked his ass by using a combat execution which dazes him because of his fear of combat executions. Once again, make sure use your silly Batclaw to escape and parachute away only to come back and stealth attack the captains(IF NOT IMMUNE). Pretty useful and cheesy.

Here are my stats for achieving Gold:

SCORE: NEW HIGH SCORE. 232326 GOLD
XP Gained 63946
Outposts Captured 5000
Min Difficulty (Nemesis): x2
Run Time (01H:31M:06): x17

DISCLAIMER: EVERY RUN IS DIFFERENT
RNG could play into how I achieved this first try.
Different Mercenaries
Different Captains with different exploits and weaknesses

I havn't tested it, but you could theoretically start a new run, check out the metal of your mercs, and discern if you should rather go die and start a new run with potentially better abilities for your mercenaries.
Good luck everyone! Happy Hunting!

EDIT:
According to belgianplayer1, they scored a Silver Rating of 221,618 which could very well mean the threshold for Gold is 225,000. If anyone finds this to be inaccurate, then please don't hesitate to post your times and scores in the comments below!

Good to see this guide has helped quite a few people these past couple of years. Don't know if I'll ever go back to see if anything has changed, for better or worse. Also, if I hadn't already mentioned it in the original solution, I believe you need to fill the Warchief slots because if enough time or turns(?) pass by then there will likely be a new Warchief. And time is important, but it's how efficient you are with the run that earns you the points before the multiplier is lost like in MCC I think. I'm happy to think I helped some of you with this challenge, and there were plenty of y'all with very helpful tips for the other seeking help on this thread. Go luck to newcomers and backlog holders alike!

I can't answer that because I did it in one sitting, but I don't think it times you of you're paused because I thought I did 2 hours but I was in the army screen and inventory screen often.

@Dmbledore I think you have to die to start a new one. Also, from what I have been reading, I'm under the impression gold is 200k?

I mean, if it's that, nemesis is certainly the sweet spot. If it's way under that, like 100k, nemesis might even be overkill.

Nemesis is the perfect balance of difficulty and fun. Not too much harder, but when you get hit it packs a wallop. Won't be too much of an issue relying strictly on bodyguards. They do 80% of the work.

As a side note, you can quit as much as you want and exploit the hell out of the cloud save system if you need. Just play offline and every now and then quit the game and connect in order for your save to be uploaded. Go back to playing offline and if something bad happens, you can erase your save and recover the other.

Had to do it once because I didn't read everything on a rune before applying it and it halved my life by 50%. Made things a lot harder and I couldn't find a way to remove runes, so I just went back to a previous save.

I got gold on my first run through the DLC with 245835 points on Nemesis with a run time of 1H:42 but my achievement didn't unlock?

Wondering if you have to get the gold in a second run or if my game just glitched out.

EDIT: Oh nevermind, someone here said they got it in their first run. So what the hell?

EDIT2: I replayed it and got gold again and still no achievement...

Thanks very much.

@alandonovan I don't believe Easy will ever give you enough of a Score Multiplier to do, but Nemesis is not that hard except for the beginning maybe a little, but once you get Bodyguards and such, it becomes a breeze. Just remain vigilant and use your health if you think you're going down. It wasn't too bad at all compared to the last game's trial.

@Daemon300 I think you got a bug because my achievement for beating the Infiltration mission for "Belly of the Beast" never unlocked and I have every other achievement within Desolation of Mordor. I'm going to beat the campaign for the DLC again and I will update.

EDIT: I just beat the mission again, and I still did not attain the achievement. It's bugged.

@Grubmeister, thanks. Reading this thread it seems nemesis is the best/only way for me. I think gravewalker is beyond me lol. Are health potions fixed or can you obtain more? Thanks for advice.

By alandonovan on 19 May 2018 12:32
@alandonovan Health potions are used by holding RB then holding X. You start with 3/3 and whenever you use one, you simply pick up more from lootable bodies or Orcs will drop them upon death. In the skill tree, you can upgrade your carrying capacity as long as you have the skill points to do so of course to hold a complete total of 7/7 I believe.

@Daemon300 yeah, it's very frustrating. I played that mission 3 times and "Belly of the Beast" just won't unlock. I emailed WB games about Shadow of War DLC, they simply told me using cheat codes negates achievements, which the game has none, they also said requirements always need to be met, which is beyond me because it's story related, and lastly to post in the forums to see if anyone else has had this problem or a solution to it. I'm stumped.

You're welcome belgianplayer1! Glad you got it!
And alandonovan, the only upgrades you keep are the Torvin upgrades that you find. That, and the story missions are carried over completed. You'll have to start yourself a fresh run which will most likely wipe the last attempt.

@alandonovan, correct, no skills carry over.

Along with what belgianplayer has said, the skills that allow you to have 3 bodyguards at the same time is essential I would say. Makes the whole run a lot easier (especially if you get lucky with the mercenaries).

This was actually really easy. I abused the "grapple away/stealth attack/rinse and repeat" method on the captains all the way through. By the time I got to the 4th Outpost, I had 2 legendary bodyguards and epics as leaders of said conquered outposts. I took out 2 Warchiefs before the siege, so I just kinda ran through the final battle easily. My bodyguards and mercs did most of the work. I had an upgrade that froze enemies upon shield bash, and another that gained might with each hit, so the Overlord pretty much went down like a bitch. Final score was 272,000+. Thankfully it popped like normal with no funny business.

Just completed it on my first run Score 310,984 in 37 mins and 30 seconds. D34dBodyMan's explanation worked perfectly, along with starting at the bottom right outpost and working clockwise. Also, if you have completed a run, make sure you equip the rune that gives a higher chance of high quality gear dropping from captains, definitely gave me some broken upgrades early on. All in all though, very easy achievement if you're even somewhat familiar with this dlc

I just wanted to point out SPEED is NOT a huge factor....look at my time, I still got gold, it must've been my XP gained that pushed me over the top.....I killed like 6 or 7 warchiefs (only because one took another's place twice)

I am not sure if the recent updates changed anything but like ImittheWinged said I also finished with a higher score than earlier posts. For those hesitant about this it seems it was made easier to some extent.

SCORE: NEW HIGH SCORE. 348480 GOLD
XP Gained 86452
Outposts Captured 5000
Min Difficulty (Nemesis): x2
Run Time (48M:39S): x23

I did the first 2 outposts starting in bottom right and working clockwise like others said. After the 2nd outpost I bought all 3 mercenary cost reductions and bought a legendary mercenary and 2 of the lowest tier ones to fill the outposts. I continued to buy 2 more legendaries and filled outposts with low tier. Once low tier ran out I started buying epic mercenaries. I killed 2 warchiefs to get rid of fiery siege beasts and war graugs to get my troops in the fortress quicker. I also purchased all 3 Serka skills to get explosives placed but don't think I used any minus the front gate. I could not get my mercenaries to dismiss before entering the keep so I finished overlord by spamming executions and ground finishers on him. When adds piled up I would shoot a fire or poison bomb and rinse and repeat.

Thank you for the guide!

For anyone wondering: you can easily do this on the first run alongside the story missions.

Here's my stats:
SCORE: NEW HIGH SCORE. 294148 GOLD
XP Gained 108332
Outposts Captured 5000
Min Difficulty (Nemesis): x2
Run Time (01H:23M:57): x18

I did the storyline until asked to get all outposts, then got all of them in random order, with the discount maximized first, I got 3 legendary bodyguards and they did most of the work. Then continued with the last 2 missions. I didn't kill any warchiefes before the siege and it was still an easy gold even with a 1h23m run, so this is very doable. Good luck!

I would not have stressed that much if I realized how well I was doing on time. I pushed hard for speed. 2x upgrades for Cheaper Mercs, Then bought the best one. Then got the remaining Merc discount and bought 2 other Epic (or whatever the best kind is called) bodyguard. I abused the stealth attack from the glider of course whenever I could. Once you get 3 bodyguards it is easy. Just keep them alive and yourself. I only killed one of the Warchief's minions. I played another mission but that minion ran and escaped so it was a complete waste of time and I still had time to spare. Thanks for all the great tips. Just get those bodyguards to do the work for ya!

I can also confirm that time isn't the most important factor. I played on "Nemesis" difficulty and took my time. I captured all the outposts and then went for each of the warchiefs. Even after going for every single warchief beforehand, I ended this run with over 300.000 points.
I think it took me something between 1:20 - 1:40. But I am not completely sure about my time. What I'm saying is: don't feel rushed if speedruns aren't your thing. You can easily get this achievement on nemesis if you get enough XP by killing warchiefs.

Got a gold with 238612 and no achievement got the gold augment when starting new game so it knows I hit gold score, clearly there are still issues with the game, anyone else had this since the last patch? I will try again but not holding out much hope :(
Also I could not clear out warchiefs totally prior to starting siege, they kept refilling with their fort upgrade, kind of crappy as I killed at least 8 and there were 4 in place when I called time and hit fort

I killed 4 Warchiefs before final fight, but i guess its good idea to kill them as they give you a lot of XP and they are always respawning. 4 were always there. If you are confident about your time and your strenght 🙂 you can kill few of them before final attack...

Thank you for the tips. I got a Mithril rating. I have all of the achievements now.

Score: 410,542 Mithril
XP Gained: 146,125
Outposts Captured 5,000
Min Difficulty (Nemesis): x2
Run Time (56M:02S): x22

The first upgrades I unlocked were the intel ones and then an extra healing elixir to feel safer and then the discounts and then alternated between extra bodyguards and healing elixirs.

I hired epic mercenaries as outpost leaders and hired 3 legendary bodyguards. Later, I had enough currency to hire the remaining legendary mercenaries to replace some of the lower level epic mercenaries.

The gear upgrades you can collect from dead captains and Warchiefs are really helpful.

I was worried I wasn't going to get it done in less than an hour and a half but it didn't count time while in the menu so I had heaps of time left.

After capturing all of the outposts, I took out the Warchiefs that had bodyguards before starting the siege. Their bodyguards run away and you can stealth kill them before they escape. I think there were 3 only Warchiefs left when I started the siege. It made it a lot faster and easier to capture the outposts. I used rally to summon my bodyguards while confronting the overlord.

Just stick to getting the mercenaries and invest in the “S” branch skill points. It’s really useful for the siege itself. In general, Don’t worry about this. It’s nothing like the awful time based achievement in Shadow of mordor.

This was much easier than I expected. On my last run I still had two story missions to do so wasn't expecting to get gold but ended up finishing in about 1 hour and 1 min. Ended with around 350k score. My advice for killing orcs, unless they are vigilant against stealth, use hit and run tactics. Stealth attack, grapple away, stealth again. Really fast and easy way to avoid drawn out fights. Also if you have a legendary combat master with a bow, hire that mf. They are broken as hell. They kill enemy captains very fast if you keep the captains attention on you and their back to the mercenary.

One more thing. On your runs look out for orc corpses that are orange or purple. They won't show up on the mini map but as far as I could tell they are always there on new runs. I made a point to visit the corpse at the top of the fortress tower whenever I started a new run to get myself a legendary piece of equipment early on.

Good guide as is the one in the walkthrough. Got it on the first try with the tips to resupply before leaving each stronghold by looting one of the marked corpses and to fast travel to Torvin's base to glide to each stronghold. Even if an enemy is immune to arrows, bombs can be your friend.

Finished the Overlord with no mercs sadly due to a glitch on the final capture where I thought they were previously dismissed. But I made such good time on everything else, it didn't matter.

Great guide made the achievement a much easier to unlock. Thankfully is nothing compared to the first shadow of Mordor dlc trials.

so, i did outposts in counterclockwise starting from nearest to me.
like the guide suggested i started investing in cost reduction perk and medkit upgrade, i also got the one that placed explosives around the fortress, as it makes troops movement much better IMO
every outpost i put a cheap merc to guard it. everytime i had extra money i got myself a legendary bodyguard. i got all 3 legendary bodyguards before outpost nr.5
i did 2 whatever warchiefs, just for points, loot and lulz. i was enjoying the run so much that i almost just did it all, but i wante the chievo more :D
i also had trouble with my bodyguards not being ready in the final battle, but i just grappled, bombed and once i had enough might i started to stagger the boss due to his weakness.
btw, i had so much money that i upgraded all my outpost guard merc to epic and legendary

truth be told, i had pretty darn good gear, so RNG might have been a factor, but i also kille d alot of stuff and captains for loot and it was extremely easy and quick thx to getting legendary bodyguards really soon.

+1, cya on the other side.

Helpful guide, after completing the story on easy (I tried to do both the story and this at the same time, no bueno). It took me 1 try on Nemesis using the hit and run strats along with the legendary captains, Finished with a little over 414000 points, in about an hour and six minutes, all outposts and the fort. I did kill 1 warchief in his mission as he was the only legendary out of the bunch. Just glad I didn't get a no chance captain in some of the outposts as I had to do 2 last chances to save it.

Honestly that was easy. Go to nearest outpost from where the game starts up. Kill the leader. Hire a legendary merc. Next outpost play it a bit safe and let your merc get involved. Let merc kill the captains so they level up. Keep this process going. By the 4th outpost you will prob have 3 mercs. Play it safe. Let mercs do practically all your fighting while you jump around and avoid being hit.

Play on nemesis mode. It’s not very hard.

When you get to fortress again just let mercs do fighting. It was rather simple and I’m not that great at the game. Message me for more tips if needed.

Ok. I just did a second run and noticed my difficulty still at nemesis. I left it unchanged. After completing it the second time, it scored me with the nemesis multiplier and the achievement popped.

I’m not sure when to change the difficulty setting as I changed it as soon as Baranor started walking after the completion on easy.

@Grubbmeister that's really frustrating, I posted about it on the main forums, hopefully it'll get fixed.

@alandonovan Honestly, I didn't think nemesis was that tough for this DLC. You can kill enemies for a chance to get more potions, and you can find dead orc bodies that you can loot (you'll see them on the mini map) and they'll refill all of your potions and all of your ammo (I believe). If you're losing a battle, you can always use the grappling hook to escape, find a body to loot and heal, and then glide and get an air stealth attack on a captain. If you get lucky with the legendary mercenaries then they'll do most of the work for you.

Also if you're going for the warchiefs with multiple bodyguards, if you just kill the warchief then the bodyguards will start running, cutting down on time. Honestly, the mercenaries are good enough to do most of the work for you.

I was able to get my glitched achievement "Belly of the Beast" today. I'm replying in notice for anyone who had a glitched achievement that met the requirements but the achievement did not unlock. What I did was went into My Games & Apps > Manage Middle Earth: Shadow of War > Saved Data > "Your Profile" > Delete Saved Data > Delete From Console. I DID NOT delete from everywhere. Now when you start the game up, as soon as you see it Start Syncing, immediately Cancel the sync then select Stop Syncing as fast as you can. I don't know if it's because my internet speed is fast or what but the first time I did this, it still had my game save synced including the DLC progress. Just keep trying until you get it. If done correctly, you'll see WB Games User Agreement again and you'll basically continue offline within the game, so when you select START you'll have 0% progress across the board. Simply complete Desolation of Mordor DLC for whatever achievement requirements you need and it should unlock. It worked for me. Happy hunting!

Did this on my 3rd run once i was comfortable with what i was doing. Score 294,796 @ 49 min (Nemesis) x2

all i did was stick to the 5 outposts and Arial stealth everything captain i could. Then went straight to the raid (use fast travel all the time)

At the start of the game i had 3,000 coins and i bought the best epic mercenary i could. (before the first outpost)

I then got the 10% discount with my first 3 skill points while buying the cheapest mercenary for each outpost as i completed them. (buy the discount first then the mercenary)

Followed by upgrading to 3 bodyguards and purchasing 3 legendary bodyguards) moving the epic guard to an outpost when the time came

followed by the 3 siege explosives ( i didn't need much healing as i was always in the air) but i did pick them up as i gained skill points after (i had all 3 by mid raid)

Note: keep buying mercenary's even after you concur all the outposts and have your bodyguards until you run out of money. The more you buy the more help you on the raid making it much faster! (Mercenary's will auto kill any captains left over to make room in your army no need to hunt them down and make room)

By time of the raid i only had 2 mercenary's left for purchase

Good luck

Thank everyone so much for the tips. I did it on my first try on Nemesis in a mere 49M after mentally over preparing with all the guides in here. 352k score. Funny thing is that I spawned zero combat masters for hire. If I'd noticed that before I took the first fort I'd have restarted, but it worked out just fine. Turns out defenders and quartermasters kill stuff just fine. Killed the final boss in like 20 seconds going in with full rage, firebombing his crew to death, executing him, then beating on him so he staggered towards the door away from the fresh spawns. Med pack abuse is really easy to do througout the run as someone pointed out. You get so many packs from corpses that you can just eat a pack every time you go to even half health. I actually did not play the game on Nemesis up until this DLC so I was surprised that the only noticable difference in the game was just that I took like 25% more damage (or something).

on Nemesis, I got all the way up to my first warchief battle without problems. had 3 bodyguards when I went for the warchief, but he had 3 bodyguards himself and after a long battle with my 3 dudes, all his bodyguards and a ton of other captains and grunts, I finally lost. I had to revive 2 of my bodyguards and 1 of them was outright killed. it was so unbelievably chaotic that I couldn't handle being attacked by like captains at once. final score was around 100k.

then I decided to just go for Bombardier in a new run and forget this one, but I went to quit out of Nemesis and go back to Easy so I could just get it done quick, but didn't realize deleting that save deleted my whole entire Baranor save and completion and everything, going back to as if I hadn't started it yet. angry I do NOT like the way that whole save system is set up, where you only have the one slot for Baranor.

Talion is way more fun to play as anyway.

I died taking an outpost on my first try after only doing one story mission. Second try I did all of the story missions, found the last of the Torvin items, took all outposts, had enough coin to hire legendary for all outpost captains, hired the best three epic mercs as body guards, and bought as many mercs as I could to kill off random captains as there werent enough slots for everyone so orcs had to go. I was not rushing much at all. I also put all the first skill points into getting the merc discount first.

Really the key for me was to just spam grapple and stealth attack from the parachute, killed every captain I found in two hits usually. I did have an augment for 50% stealth damage from the parachute which obviously helped. Any orc who was vigilant against stealth was weak against an element that I could hit with an arrow or bomb. The first three outposts I did basically solo because it was only 1, 2, or 3 orcs as objective and I was short on coin. When I brought my body guards in for the last 2, they easily murdered the main orc at the capture point and got the capture meter full while I stealth bombed captains.

I did not take out any warchief missions before taking the fortress. 5 Legendary mercs plus my three epic body guards and death from above made short work of the fortress.

Awesome tips, super helpful saving two of my bodyguards for the Overlord. And, those upgrades to your gear are crucial, I had pretty much unlimited Might by the end of it. I went with Epic mercenaries for the Outpost leaders, and 3 Legendary bodyguards. I started with the discounts, staggered the health and intel, and then the gate siege upgrades. I also only took out two Warchiefs beforehand, the one with the most bodyguards and one that just looked scary to me lol Using the grapple to fly away and come back with stealth a bunch cheesed it well. As did the Hold B to pull them towards you on the Outpost leaders or random captains when I found them (never went out of my way for them).

I just got this achievement! I followed this guide, but I also used a bit of my own strategies. I continued after I had already played through the campaign part of the DLC. Playing on Nemesis Difficulty, I started with the very bottom right Outpost then continued in a clockwise motion ending in the top right. The beginning is honestly the hardest part. Once I beat that Outpost, I saved my money and DID NOT buy a Mercenary yet. I played the second Outpost and by then, I had enough Skill Points to buy 2 of the Mercenary Discount Skill Upgrades. I played 1 more Outpost and purchased all 3 Mercenary Discounts. I then filled the slots for the Outposts with the lowest (750 coins after 3 Discounts) Mercenary purchases so Uruks could not fill them. The other skill points I unlocked were used for all 3 body guards which I purchased the Legendary Mercenaries for. Any Captain slain dropped an armor upgrade, which I always applied; however, you need to read them before applying because they do rarely have some that disadvantage you. Be careful before you apply every upgrade. Every other skill point I earned went towards upgrades for Health Capacity as well as Serka's Fortress bombs for the walls/doors. After the 5 Outposts were completed, I was only at about 35 minutes in, so I took out 2 Warchiefs guarding the Fortress. I decided to take out a third Warchief after 44 minutes in, and after doing so, a new Warchief filled one of the slots I already dismantled, so I'm not sure if they stay gone or luck of the draw with timing events. Either way, by this time, I was able to buy every Mercenary except 2 of the 750 coin ones. I'm pretty sure this helped out a lot because when I started taking the Fortress, each Capture Point was almost immediately taken by the time I ran to it and hit down on the D-Pad. After capturing every point, it was time for the final fight. I tried to Dismiss my Bodyguards before the fight, but they DID NOT dismiss. I'm not sure if it's because they were stuck in a celebrating phase or after the most recent update, but either way, I went in with just Serka and I immediately shot a bomb at all enemies so I could get an Execution since it Dazes the boss. I just kept attacking him until he finally died. My final score was:

SCORE: 285960
XP GAINED: 58417
OUTPOSTS CAPTURED: 5000
MIN. DIFFICULTY (NEMESIS): x2

Just chiming in with some extra tips to make your run go smoother, I did this on my second run (first run I was on normal and forgot to switch until halfway through so I decided to just do a dry run anyway) and had a final score of:

Score: 390321
XP: 102876
Time: 40M 27S

-Clear the NE and NW outposts first, then do the SE and leave the other two for last. Reason being is that the top outposts are very open and flat and are better suited for only one or two captains to kill. You want the verticality and broken sightlines of the S and SW outposts to be last when there is a giant pile of captains to clear out.

-Except for the first 2 outposts you will pretty much never be engaging enemies in direct combat. Once you have legendary bodyguards set up with you your role is now just to bomb the shit out of everyone all the time. Dump all your bombs and bolts to clear groups out of the main capture point, then sprint or grapple away and find a body nearby to loot to fully regen all your ammo.

-When recruiting legendary bodyguards try and get ones that have the balefire trait, it adds a lot more aoe damage which is 90% of the run.

-Similar to the last point never both executing captains, get them low with executions and bombs and let one of your bodyguards or mercs get the kill, as soon as captains are <10% health any friendly nearby will pretty much auto-execute them, which skips their second chance perk if they have it, and skips having to do the QTE, both of which waste a bunch of time when you could already be damaging the next enemy.

-Buy out all the low level mercs and fill your outposts with them, and then before you begin the fortress assault burn all your money on as many epic mercs as you can get. You want as many slots filled as possible to 1) have extra named mercs for the fight 2) clear out enemy captains that you would otherwise have to fight. Money doesn't carry over so burn that shit. My run I had 2 legendary mercs left to buy and I was out of money starting the assault.

-This is mostly luck but the gear I looted kept giving me all this ridiculous might gain shit, +4 might when ally hits enemy, +4 might when ally takes damage, might is unlimited for 10 seconds after killing captain. All this shit added up to me basically having infinite might during the entire siege event and I just sat there mashing A+X endlessly doing the spin to win and cleared everything out with the chain whip.

I got this done and I’ll leave a summary of my run through here (also it goes without saying but I had completed Torvin’s quest and the main quest before attempting this run):

To begin, I did the bottom middle outpost. After the outpost I could only afford an epic follower so I bought the highest leveled one and made him my bodyguard.

I made my way to the outpost to the left and beat it. I bought a second epic follower and made my way to the bottom right outpost.

This is where things got interesting. I technically failed my run-through as I got downed by a no-chance captain but thanks to someone’s tip here ( don’t remember their name) I was able to close out of the game right before they killed me and I was spawned at the bottom of the map like the encounter never took place. I went back and beat it this time as I let my followers kill the no chance captain. After doing this outpost I was one turn away and two turns away from losing my other outposts so I went ahead and assigned two common followers in them just in case.

I fast traveled to Torvin and glided to the outpost at the top left. I took it over and afterwards I only had enough points to buy a common follower so I went ahead and made him my third bodyguard.

I headed to the top right outpost and completed it fairly easily.

After all was said and done I attacked the fortress though I was severely unprepared and only had two health packs. By some miracle though, after I ran out of health packs, I don’t know if it was a glitch or an augment, but I got unlimited might and just kept doing executions on all the warchiefs and captains. I made it to the throne room and at this point the unlimited might stopped and I had no health packs so I was worried but it proved to be the easiest fight in my entire run.

Some things that I would advise people to do with their skill points:

1) Obtain the outpost intel perk first
2) Get a second follower
3) get all health upgrades
4) get a third bodyguard
5) upgrade everything else (note that when buying a siege perk after the siege starts [at least in my experiences] they will not do anything)

Also, always try to let followers get the last hit on captains and warchiefs so they can level up, I noticed this happened plenty with me just playing like normal but still try to make sure they are getting kills.

Edit: some important things I forgot to mention, time is not counted when the game is paused or inactive. Always equip augments as soon as you get them, wouldn’t recommend selling any of them. Finally, I did this on nemesis difficulty and my final time came out to 45 minutes (even though it probably took me around two hours to do because of pause time, load time, afk time, etc.)

I'm sorry but this game is far too stupidly difficult on Nemesis difficulty. I don't consider myself a great gamer by any means of the imagination, but I'm not terrible. But this shit is just dumb. Way too difficult. Especially as a worthless human with barely any useful skills.

EDIT: Tried this about 6 times killed the first outpost boss one time. Can't progress past that. Achievement is impossible for a casual player. Very disappointed. Outpost bosses take 20 minutes to defeat. Would never make the time requirement. I don't even remotely fathom how some of you have done this in 35 minutes. There's no possible way and you could show me you YouTube video of how you did it and I still wouldn't believe you. The bottom line is Baranor is a horrifically bad character, basically zero useful skills, the arrow caps are far too low (should be 20 each), the bomb counts are too low (should be 10 each), you don't do nearly enough damage, elemental damage for enemies that are vulnerable to it should be at least 5 times more potent. I mean everything about this DLC is awful.

My strategy is simular to HollabackGamings but we definitely did somethings different.

For one I played on Gravewalker difficulty which if you get hit twice by even the grunts your run is a wipe.
But yet on my second attempt on it I managed to get 500745 as my score and it took me between 1H and 1H 20Mins. This is for tips on how to complete it on Gravewalker difficulty.

Heal everytime your health is below three quarters.

On your first run collect all of Torvin's items and return them (these are incredibly useful and you get an achievement)

Try to kill everything from a distance and stealthily unless the Captains traits force you to fight head on. My strategy was flying above the Captains, stealth attacking from above then getting out of there as fast as possible but had to regularly improvise.

If there are a few captains bunched together shoot in the middle of them with a poison bomb then shoot a fire bomb, this causes Balefire which is devastating.

Put epic mercs down as outpost leaders because in the final assault common mercs die before getting inside the gates.

For upgrades:
1. The one that allows you to see Outpost Captain's traits.
2. The one that allows you to see normal Captain's traits.
3. All four of the healing upgrades.
4. It doesn't really matter from here but I suggest the bolt or bomb upgrades.

Constantly check for captains immunities and vulnerabilities, if one is immune to arrows but vulnerable to stealth its wise to stealth attack them and if you have full might when you land, use your combat execution on them or a a vulnerable captain then spam the A button to jump over the grunts heads until you find a place to latch onto and escape, then reset and do it again until they're dead or you've captured the outpost.

I only had one bodyguard and he was legendary which I bought just before the assault, activate him once in the final room where you face the overlord as this will really help.

I didn't kill any of the Warcheifs before commencing the assault so was forced to kill all four catapult graugs (which needed to be taken out quickly) and the captive drake. Your mercs should clean up the enemy Warcheifs so just swoop in for an easy kill or taking one of their defense points.

For items make sure to check them before activating them as one halves your health which on Gravewalker is a death sentence. But make sure to constantly update your items.

When in a 1 on 1 with a captain (this applies for the overlord) use your chain to reel them in to you then when they're down ground execute them, rinse and repeat until you have enough might to do a combat execution, then continue until they're dead, this way you shouldnt take any damage and should clean them up quite quickly.

Really handy trick by Place of Power: "When your about to die while in the kneeling position you can dashboard/quit game and it'll be like nothing happened, the map will still be blue. While I was about to die while kneeling in the overlord room I quit the game immediately and it only took me back to the start of the siege... the map was still conquered and I got my gold rating."

Goodluck guys and I hope this helps.

Edit: added photo as evidence of my score.

Completed it on Gravewalker. 2H: 30M: 28S.

I had plenty of time to kill all five warchiefs before the final battle, and have enough cash to have three legendary mercenaries for the fight against Takra.

Lots of using the grappling hook to get to high ground, lots of stealth attacks from above when possible.

Edit: Total score was 261598, for reference.

Thanks again for these awesome tips, it was way easier that I would have thought. Dashboarding when you are about to be executed saved my hide a few times.

I haven't bought the skill to learn traits of the outpost captains, since there was always a piece of intel on the way to the outpost, so I just used that.

I was really lucky with artifacts, I found one where I get might each time my allies get hit, so insta X+A chain whirlwind all the time. But what really helped, I found an artifact that gave me a last chance! Finished in 1H:45M with 542k. I liberated all of the outposts and killed all of the fortress guardians. Final assault was just running from point to point to capture it.

This difficulty really is the way to go with this achievement. Gives you a lot of time to prepare and it's a breeze in the long run.

If you are only trying to get a Gold rating for the achievement I would stick to Nemesis difficulty. I didn't kill any of the Warchiefs, and I hired 5 legendary mercenaries.

Score: 344,727
XP Gained: 75,612
Outposts Captured: 5,000
Min Difficulty (Nemesis): x2
Run Time (43m12s): x24

I went with this, my stealth skills are better than close combat.

Bad luck for me, everything was fine but on the last place to capture in the fortress, the last captain had no chance trait... First time I died in my run !

Props to Hollaback and Halo for their advice. I followed some of their methods while adding my own based on play style and ended my run in 33.5 minutes on nemesis scoring 390,155.

Starting the run I took the outpost on the bottom left. Bombing the living daylights out of anything that wasn't human. Taking this outpost gives you two skill upgrades and some cash. Put those 2 skill points into your merc discount and buy yourself a top tier bodyguard... shop around, look at the stats and see whos going to cause the most damage.

Don't stress about manning the outpost, like a dodgy pyramid scheme the funds from the second outpost are going to flow back to manning the first. Buy the cheap guys, they will be fine. This outpost will provide an additional upgrade which is going on the final merc discount which will make these bargain mercs even cheaper.

As you move around the outpost from this point keep upgrading bodyguard slots and hiring top tier guards, them summon those buggers at every outpost, between them smashing the place up and you spamming fire shield and bombing the cluster everyone is on fire, poisoned, and being shot with arrows or pummelled depending on your mercs.

After this follow your upgrades as they suit. I didn't worry too much about the rally skill instead getting the Intel on outpost, then max health, then maxing placing bombs on the gate for the last fort which pushes your troops through the fort causing chaos.

Restock on the fallen bodies whenever you see them.

When you enter the last room for the finale, bomb the hell out of the orcs on the stairs then get to work on the main while your brother mops up the stragglers. If your bodyguards are keen to party I assume they'll be of use though I didn't find it necessary.

Bombing the orcs on the stairs gives you a combo execution. The main is damaged and scared of executions which creates a stun lock so just beat him, execute, beat, execute, QTE and congrats!

Good luck!!!

This trophy wasn't as nearly hard as I have expected. In order to get this trophy you need to play on the Nemesis difficulty at least, which gives you x2 multiplier. I'm not sure if it is possible to get this on an easier difficulty but you I'm sure that the score limit is a little higher than 200k for the gold. The nemesis difficulty is not that hard anyway, I easily get the trophy on the first try with the score below:

XP Gained: 85596
Outposts Captured: 5000
Min Difficulty (Nemesis): x2
Run Time (51:57): x22
New High Score: 340059

Prior to the run, complete the other trophies by playing the main story and obtaining all the Torvin updates. These are carried over and you won't need to do them again on your second run. Your skills and mercenaries are reseted though.

On your second run quickly go through the outposts in a cyclic manner. Your mercenaries are the key here since they will do the most of the job. First unlock the bodyguard skills in order to obtain three bodyguards. You need to assign mercenaries to the outposts. I used the cheap ones on the outposts and tried to purchase the best ones for my bodyguards. You can swap them later so don't worry too much about buying the best at the beginning.

Here is a little exploit that fairly speeds up the fights: Keep launching your zip line to a higher point and attack on the captains from the top. They quickly die this way, especially when you have lots of stealth damage augmentation.

After the outposts, directly attack on the fortress without wasting your time on the warchiefs. I entered the final fight without my bodyguards, guess you need to dismiss them prior to the entry. All you need in the final fight is combat executions.

The skills you should open first are mercenary and health pack upgrades. Then I preferred the ones that will help me attacking the castle and finally the ones with the rally skill.

Note: I'm pretty sure the timer stops when you pause the game, my run took at least half an hour longer than my final score.

Got this in one try, final time was 36 minutes and some change.

Play on NEMESIS difficulty for the multiplier.

First take the outposts, I went Northeast, then counter-clockwise. Upgraded reduced mercenary cost 3x first. Assign the cheapest possible mercenaries to each outpost you take, doesn't matter as long as there is a merc there it won't get re-taken.

As you take the outposts upgrade so that you can have 3 Bodyguards, they are Captain killing machines. After bodyguard upgrades I just focused on Health Elixirs and then the upgrades for Serka that let you blow open all the gates, then Bolts.

Once you have all the Outposts you can weaken the fort by killing Warchiefs or just assault it. With 3 Legendary Bodyguards all I did was kill 1 Warchief and then started the quest to assault, and won.

Combat tips: I just grapple and glide around and stealth attack the Captains/Warchiefs, most can be killed in 1-3 stealth hits. Becomes even easier once you have a bodyguard or 3. I don't engage in direct combat much at all, if any. The final "boss" of the Fortress is kind of a joke....use one execute on him and he is dazed for the whole fight and you can just punch his face off basically. Finished with a time of 36 minutes and over 400K points, giving you lots of wiggle room.

This is by far the hardest trophy in the whole game, make sure to complete the DLC first and try to get a bronze rating for the augment that increases the drop chance for rare drops, though it's not essential. Don't spend all of your cash either as some of it carries over. Make sure to grab all artifacts and complete the story, these carry over however your skills and augments do not.

To get a gold rating you must capture all 5 outposts and conquer the fortress as quickly as possible and score at least 225,000 points. This may sound daunting and it does rely on a bit of luck, as well as skill to achieve.

Recommended Skills:
  • Logistics x3 - Grants a 30% discount for hiring Mercs
  • Honor Guards x1/2 - Grants additional bodyguard assignment slots
  • Sabotage Inner Gate - Puts explosives at the front gate during the siege so you can breach it easily

General tips and advice:
  • Play on Nemesis as the gold rating is virtually impossible below this difficulty because there isn't a x2 point multiplier, don't bother with Gravewalker either as it's very difficult and will cause a lot of frustration.
  • Get the Honor Guard skills ASAP, combat is hard at first as you will feel under-powered, once you have 2-3 bodyguards it becomes easier. Alternate between these skills and then increase health pack capacity.
  • Kill white arrow enemies for augments, but don't go massively out of your way for them though so you don't waste time, with the bronze augment you may get some very powerful drops early on.
  • Don't assign mercs to outposts until you have at least 2 bodyguards, get one with the 'balefire' trait as this is extremely powerful, get the discount skills if you are struggling to afford any.
  • You can prevent your outposts from being captured by rotating your mercs between them to reset the timer, saving a lot of time by not having to defend or re-take them.
  • Don't bother drawing out warchiefs as this takes up too much time, with 2 or 3 epic/legendary bodyguards you will have little trouble fighting them during the siege.
  • Make use of your bombs and elemental bolts, firing these in to a crowd with captains/warchiefs is quite effective, especially if you have a bodyguard with the 'balefire' trait.
  • Try and assign an epic merc with the trait that increases hired merc damage by 50%, with this they will decimate warchiefs during the siege.
  • Backup your save to a USB or the PS+ cloud regularly in case you make a mistake or die.

Here is a screenshot of my final results.

Try and aim for a time of an hour or less, there is some leeway but anything over 1 hour and 20 minutes will be pushing it, remember to utilise backups and try to arrive at the siege at around 40-50 minutes time. You can keep your distance and let your hired mercs do most of the work during the siege especially if they are legendary and epic. Don't worry about the Overlord; he's very easy to kill as he fears executions, so just use one on him and he will be dazed.

If you are struggling, nekov4egop has created a thread with an excellent video and text guide, getting a very high score with a lot of room for error.

To unlock this achievement you need to beat this DLC with a Gold rating. You will be given a rating of either Bronze, Silver, Gold or Mithril and your score is determined by the difficulty you play on, the time you take to complete it and the Outposts you capture. This cannot be done on anything less than Nemesis difficulty as that's the lowest difficulty you can do to get a multiplier bonus for difficulty. You will also need to effectively speedrun to have the shortest time possible, aiming for between one hour and one and a half hours. My first run took me over two hours and my multiplier from that was x10 and it simply wasn't enough. My difficulty was only easy and had no multiplier, so with that in mine I got 39,000 and a bronze rating.

My gold rated run I played on Nemesis difficulty and completed it in one hour and twenty eight minutes and got a x2 multiplier for the difficulty and x17 for the time I took and my overall score was 279139 which earned a gold. There is nowhere in the game that shows the required score for each rating but the general consensus online seems to be 225000 is the required score for a gold rating.

My successful run of this included three story missions since I died half way through a previous run and your story progress remains, so I could have cut out a substantial amount of time if I had completed it first, so that is an option, doing this on a second run after completing it first on easy to acclimatize yourself to the mechanics, since after you have completed it all of your story progress saves and when you begin a new run all you need to do is take over the outposts and then take the main fortress which is much quicker to do without story missions.

As for upgrades I first focussed on buying the mercenary discount upgrades so I could hire mercenaries for cheaper, then I unlocked the extra spaces for more bodyguards, then the extra spaces for healing items. Any other points I put arbitrarily into skills I didn't care for, such as extra steel bolts.

As for mercenaries, hire the cheapest ones for outpost guards and only hire the Legendary ones as your bodyguards, they are very powerful and can do most of the work for you. I had one of my mercenaries kill three captains within ten seconds during an encounter so they are definitely worthwhile.

I also took out three of the warchiefs before attempting the final assault and this turned out to be a good call since even with only three remaining most of my forces were wiped out during the assault and I only just scraped through until the final fight with the overlord.

As for that final fight, it is much easier than you would expect. I did three runs of this DLC in total and in all thee the overlord was the same with the same weaknesses. I just hit to stun him, hit him until my wrath filled up then did an execution on him, then repeated until i killed him, so presumably he is a set overlord and the same for everyone else.

The trophy is not at all difficult, as the name might suggest. It should be completed after completing the story missions and collecting all the artifacts. Before starting a replay, set the difficulty level to the “hard” minimum, because... The scoring multiplier depends on the difficulty. First of all, I recommend leveling up your skills for calling mercenaries (in the end it will be possible to call up 3 mercenaries), I bought mercenaries no less than Supreme (or better yet Legendary), then level up all the perks and the skill that adds first aid kits, and at the end level up the siege perks of Serka ( brother of the main hero). I began to capture outposts clockwise from the initial appearance of the hero, captured the outpost, bought a mercenary, made him a bodyguard, bought the cheapest mercenary and made him the commander of the outpost (mandatory, otherwise the orcs will capture) and so on five times. Then I killed the strongest leaders (or with the largest number of bodyguards), and after that I went on an assault, and all this together took me 1 hour. 01min. I earned 280 thousand points (I think 200-250 thousand is enough for the eyes). You can’t die, you can use quick transitions (a convenient thing for recharging bodyguards), try to fly more often, climb to the highest points, because... in melee ch. the hero is quite frail (and it’s better not to expose himself to blows), but from a distance he mocks my respect. And the last piece of advice is to change your equipment more often because there are some very cool things that make the passage much easier.

I got it while playing on the “Coming from the Grave” difficulty, first captured all the outposts and threw the safe onto a flash drive. Then he killed all the captains (because then, together with the leaders, they tear their ass so much that even the bodyguards drive away with two pokes) and again the safe on the flash drive. Then I got rid of all the leaders one by one and again put the safe on a flash drive. Almost all captains can one-shot this difficulty, and if you die, it’s all over again, so it’s better to reroll your saves. As soon as everyone has been killed, you easily capture all the points; during the battle with the head of the fortress, Serka will help you, plus three of your bodyguards. From perks, I first upgraded bodyguards, then alternated first aid kits with a discount on bodyguards) then as you wish. Completed in 1 hour 48 minutes earned 670 thousand

Did this:

1. Started the DLC on easy difficulty, collected all the upgrades and completed all the main missions. At the end, when you fight in the castle and finish off the commander, go to the settings and switch the difficulty to Nemesis . Afterwards, we finish off the commander and start again (you will be offered to do this, saving all the improvements).
2. I immediately bought the cheapest soldier and made him a Bodyguard.
3. Completed 2 additional missions on the map and killed the captains there. (Needed for experience to buy skills).
4. We pump up the maximum discount on soldiers and buy legendary ones as bodyguards.
5. We capture all 5 Outposts and buy the cheapest soldiers for protection, the ones you bought at the beginning can also be shoved into defense.
6. We go to capture the fortress.

By skills:
1. “Blood for coins” to the maximum (we get 50% savings on the purchase of mercenaries).
2. “Bodyguard” to maximum (and set only Legendary ones as bodyguards).
3. “Bombardier’s bag” to the maximum (an ideal bunch of poison bombs and fire immediately after).
4. Here it’s either health or arrows, who needs what more, I downloaded arrows and only then treatment.

PS
I didn’t try sabotage on the walls, it works with bombs and Bodyguards with a bang.
Before the start of the final battle, all the Legendaries and all the cheapest mercenaries were bought up.
Be sure to place all the “Items” that drop from captains and some orcs, they can make your life a lot easier.

Completed in 41min. and 52sec. with 373,904 thousand points.

After the 1st playthrough, when you go for this achievement, the DLC plot and all the improvements for the crossbow will already be collected and all the skills will be available for leveling. Completed on Arch Enemy difficulty. First of all, note the time in the person-statistics tab - the rightmost one and at the very bottom the time you spent on 1 playthrough will be indicated (remember, the countdown will start from there). Next, we drown all the outposts (be sure to put a mercenary on the defensive) as soon as possible, pumped up the discount on the purchase of mercenaries (in the end, before the final assault, I bought almost all of them except the top 3). As soon as we have recaptured all the outposts, we look at how much time we spent on it (it took me about 30 minutes), then to make the assault easier, we go through the leaders starting from the most guarded one and below, simultaneously pumping up all the skills that are important for us (I recommend putting 2 points into sabotage both gates) so we have fun until about an hour of wasted time, then we go on the assault (after capturing the 4th point, disband your mercenaries so that they disappear from the radar, otherwise you will not be able to call them to the final battle (they will get stuck at the last point, as happened in mine passage)) and before entering the main one, accumulate charisma, in the end you will call everyone at once even if they did not roll back), then we look at the fears of the main one (as far as I understand, this is always a fear of executions, so accumulate the counter with bombs and carry out the execution, in the end he will adapt in general to all blows but will still be afraid of execution). I spent 1 hour 31 seconds on the passage, capturing 5 outposts and killing 4 leaders in the final battle, poking around without mercenaries. The meter showed 360+k.

I agree with eXactMan , but not on everything.
I played like this:
I bought a mercenary and the first thing I did was not go to the outposts, but completed the “sworn enemy” task for him; it takes little time, but there are a lot of bonuses. Exp is given purely for the task and the mercenary himself (the cheapest) receives +5 levels. Which is important, since at maximum difficulty they are quite dead, and the player himself immediately receives 3 points, which are used to reduce the cost of hiring. (there is no need to download the subsequent ones separately. By this time, the money will be for cool mercenaries and the GG will recruit upgraders, which will be enough not to poke around in the corners. And if they do, then with better efficiency of hidden attacks) And then along the outposts, and spent exp primarily for new mercenaries and the number of heals - depending on the situation. To sabotage the gates is closer to the end, because they are of no use for outposts. I killed the head of the reptile 3 times and in all times he never adapted to anything You execute him once and then while he is in a stupor, you bludgeon him with a sword, as soon as he moves away, he is already full of rage and so on in a circle. I used bombs only at the very beginning, to recruit the first yarki and break the guards. There must be someone with a detachment among the mercenaries for the final battle, so that this meat would minimize the interference of small orcs.
With this tactic, the 3rd playthrough turned out like this

There is nothing special to add.
It seems that no one wrote the exact number, but to get the gold cup you need 225,000 points.
I would only advise those who do not have a very strong nervous system and who are not used to difficulties to make the task easier for themselves and not to go through the “Coming from the Grave” difficulty, since it is noticeably more difficult, but to play on “Sworn Enemy”.
For the first improvements to the character, I first completed the quest with the hunt for the Caragor (with two captains it turned out to be difficult, as well as with the hunt for the ghoul matron), you kill the Caragor - you get experience. A light captain was also caught - he was killed too - another experience.
Initially there were 2800 coins, probably transferred from the first playthrough, although in the first I finished the game and had about 9800.
The first perks are an increase in the number of bodyguards and discounts on them. When all this was at its maximum, I then pumped up first aid kits and mining of internal and external gates. Then an increase in the amount of ammunition.
The point is to buy an ordinary captain to protect captured outposts and a legendary one as a bodyguard. If there was not enough money for a second legendary, he went to kill one of the leaders. As a result, he then bought another legendary one as a bodyguard and, after the capture of the outpost, he was usually used for its protection. As a result, I had 3 legendary captains as bodyguards and I bought about half of the rest for the attack.
In the end, everything was completed - the side quest at the beginning, 5 outposts, 2 leaders, and almost all the upgrades were purchased from me.
After each successful and quickly completed quest - save on a flash drive. It is very advisable to keep track of how much time you spend completing the game. In the menu, character, map, army, items - time does not pass. Where to look at time statistics was written above.
It took me 53 minutes.
The main thing I wanted to convey is that you shouldn’t tear your ass off on “Coming from the Grave.” On "Sworn Enemy" everything is quite real and much simpler.
