How to unlock the Eastern Front achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of War - Definitive Guide

This achievement is unlocked by loading up your main Shadow of War save file and traveling to Lithlad, then conquering the fortress there.
You can make this much easier on yourself in a number of ways:
1. Complete the Warchief missions first so that they won't be present during the attack and their upgrades will be disabled.
2. Create command your captains to become spy warchiefs.
3. Command your captains to be bodyguards for the overlord. They will attack him during the fight. I gave him 8 of my captains, and it was just sad to watch. This is a new feature with recent updates.

Now, the biggest reason that I am creating this guide is that this achievement is known to be incredibly buggy! Today I found a solution to work around this achievement not unlocking. It is rather labor intensive, however, so you may just want to hope and pray that Monolith will patch this...
I have no faith in game devs. Not after Mafia 3.

If this achievement is broken for you, here is how to fix it.
1. Delete your main game from within the game's main menu.
2. Manage your game from the dashboard, and delete all save data for your profile. Please note, I recommend doing all other achievements first.
3. Play through the game until you conquer Nurnen. At this point, all maps, including Lithlad, will be unlocked.
4. You will likely be underleveled. Kill all warchiefs, and build and army. I recommend using any Orcs you may have in the garrison from the many free chests you will probably have gotten.
5. BEFORE YOU CONQUER THE FORTRESS!!!! Close your game, fully shut off your console and clear the cache by unplugging the power from the back of your console, and from the wall. Wait 5 minutes before plugging it back in, then power up the console.
6. Conquer the fortress. The achievement should pop after selecting a new overlord and returning to the open world.

Good luck and I hope this helps a few people out there.

Thanks for this detailed solution, I hope I don’t need it. Can you recall if you used red or blue eyed talion, it seems that may influence the glitch.

I followed your steps mentioned in the comments, the achievement finally popped on my 4th main game playthrough. And it even popped from my Win10 XBOX APP, not on the console.laugh

I got it on the first run through, I just replaced all the Orc captains with my left over Orcs from the main game. Took out the Warchiefs and ran through all capture points with ease.

Does anyone know if taking the fort before you start Desolation gets around the glitch? I got the version with the season pass so I have all the DLC installed and ready to go but I haven't started any of it yet.

Got the achievement I just made sure to power cycle my Xbox before going for it. I will say I had to wait a while for it to pop which kind of worried me.

Try being in a default skin. If you have equipped a skin, remove it so you revert to the default, rather than just selecting red eyes.
I think this might be the cause of the glitch.

@alandonovan There are now a few different levels at which you can use spies.
1. When you dominate the bodyguard of a warchief, you can press X to command them to become spies. When you attack the warchief, any spies you have will betray the warchief, often dealing massive damage.
2. You can send dominated captains to spy on warchiefs. You can do this from the army screen. Command the dominated captain, then select the warchief that you want them to spy on. This will create a new mission at the fight pits, where they will have to win a fight to become a bodyguard/spy.
3. Once a warchief has been removed, you can send dominated captains to become warchiefs. You command the captain from the army screen and select an empty warchief slot. This is very limited in its use, though, because if you've killed the warchief you will already have an easy time with that part of the conquest. Again, the captain will have to win at the fight pits to take this position.
3. This is the only feature that wasn't in the game to start with. You can now send dominated captains to bodyguards for the Overlord. Command the captain, and select the overlord to create a mission, again at the fight pits, and if they win, they will betray the overlord during the throne room fight. I recently did one of these where I created 8 bodyguard spies, and it made the boss fight pretty easy. Note, I was only level 19, and the overlord was 51. I needed the help from the spies.

Writing this solution purely because I was initially confused after finishing the dlc and finding no skin options or whatever.

This is for capturing the fortress in the desert area in your MAIN game save file

Capturing the fortress is the usual deal, and the absolute fastest way is to start the mission as soon as you get to Lithlad but is of course easier if you turn the difficulty down and have your orcs infiltrate the hierarchy.

@Ali JCW Yeah the first time I do it with the elf woman skin and no achievement. Changed to the "red eyes Talion", lose the fortress and captured it again, still no achievement. Played online conquest, no luck. Looks like this must be done with default skin at first time. What an annoying problem. If they don't fix it, this will be a missable achievement.

I did it with red eyes Talion on my first try. Since then I've tried four more times with different skins and circumstances. This is so broken.

@Xx DIKAU xX Yes, on my profile I had completed Desolation of Mordor first, but then on my wife's profile I tried to do Eastern Front first, and the achievement didn't pop on either profile.
It's not simply all SoW achievements failing either. I unlocked Baranor the Conqueror after I should have gotten Eastern Front several times over.
Thank you for the suggestion.

I also conquered the fortress with "red eyes" Talion, but the achievement didn't pop. I really don't want to play through the majority of the game again on a different save file just for this achievement. It seems there is no other option.

Looks like this is broken, just broken for me and some people. The skins or some other varieties don't matter at all. I'll uninstall the whole game and delete savefile then start over again. If this still won't unlock, I'll be mad smile

Would I be correct in saying the majority of glitches occurred using red eye talion?
It sems the blue eye talion has worked better. Just trying to avoid the glitch if possible.

It unlocked fine for me as red eyed talion, first time. I do not know if it truly makes any difference or not.

As others have stated, I am having problems unlocking with red eyed Talion as well. This is my last achievement, so very frustrating to say the least.

Went straight into the fortress raid without infiltrating anyone with my level 60 default skin Talion. Slaughtered everything in 10 minutes, destroyed the Overlord with no hassle. Achievement popped after the cutscene. So relieved when I heard the sound.

Tonight was finally able to unlock this, after a week of troubleshooting.
Here's what I did:
I went out on a limb by restarting the game. You can go to Lithlad once you conquer Nurnen, though you'll most likely be under leveled.
Once I got to Lithlad, I remembered having to do something similar for Mafia 3, and so I fully shut down my console, then unplugged power from the back of the console and from the wall for 5 minutes to clear the cache.
After that I conquered Shindram.
The achievement didn't pop right away but once I had selected a new overlord and returned to the game world it finally popped.
I never thought I'd be talking about Monolith and Hanger 13 in the same sentence. They REALLY need to get their act together with Shadow of War. Mordor was one of my favorite games. I bought 3 different versions. But War is just broken so often.
Anyway, I'm testing the cache clear on my wife's profile (the achievement is broken for her too), to determine whether a game restart is needed, or just the cache clear.
Will create solution after that.

I will show you how to conquer the for with Talion. Pretty simple method to just go right in and push the cap points.

To unlock this achievement you need to conquer the fortress of Shindram while playing as Talion. You will need to load up your main game save to do this and make sure you are wearing the default Talion skin, if you have swapped it previously go into your inventory and press to change it, then go to the one that is currently equipped and press to remove it, this will put you in the default Talion skin.

From here you need to travel to Lithlad, go to the map and zoom out into the world map then go across to the right to find the new region and fast travel there. All you need to do now is conquer the fortress here. This is much the same as the main game, you can make it difficult and try to conquer it right away or you can take the time to remove the Warchiefs or turn them into your spies to make it easier. Either way, conquer the fortress with the default Talion skin and this achievement will unlock.

Lithlad can be visited in the main game as Talion. Load up your game and travel to Lithlad and conquer the fortress here, it works in the exact same way as sieges from the main game.
