How to unlock the Such Great Heights achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of War - Definitive Guide
Now your attack score, unlike your defense score, has no direct link to your Orc Captains and upgrades. It's based on your performances online. If you conquer a fort and get gold, you get a 100 pts bump to your attack score, 25 pts for silver and no points for Bronze. Gold requires you to conquer the fort in less than 6 minutes and Silver in less than 10 minutes I think, timers will appear in the top right corner during your mission.
Now the combined score of your defense and attack must be 2500 to become Captain and unlock the achievement. Me personally I was well over 3000 and I had still not unlocked the achievement. It seems there is a bug where if you get the achievement while upgrading your forts on defense it does not unlock, I had to go online and play a game for it to unlock.
Patched maybe?
To see where you currently are... hit the pause/menu button and then scroll down to ONLINE (under GARRISON) Then select View ratings at the bottom (space bar / A).
Your overall rating at the top is the number we are trying to get to 2500. You do this by upgrading each area's assault and defense teams.
Some tips to get you there. I finished the game at level 50, so wasn't keen on grinding to level 60 as the other guide says. I didn't have to using this method.
1) Fast travel to each region. Unlock all spots for both teams. Upgrade and activate one siege upgrade for each assault and defense spot.
2) Find your top 7 leveled captains in that area. Place your 7th strongest captain as Overload. This will give you your highest 6 characters to use in assault and 7 strongest in Defense. (You cant use your overload on your assault team but you can on defense)
3) In order for the score to register, you need to travel to the "online conquest" red spot on the map and go to start a conquest. You don't have to start it, but for the scores to update it has to load like this.
4) You can get 100 assault points by getting gold in an online assault match. If you have a particularly low assault area, do an online assault which you should be pro at by now. Aim for less than level 150 defense for easy less than 5 minutes (hopefully)
5) If you need to quickly level a few captains in an area, send them all to kill a target. Advance time 3 times at fast travel points, and with ambush backup especially, they will likely win and gain a few levels. This is a fast way to level many captains at once instead of one at a time in the fight pit.
Using the above method I was able to get 2500 using level 40 and a few 50 captains only.
If you have near max level orcs in all your slots and win around 10 rounds online it should bring your score up to the minimum.
To unlock this achievement you need to reach the rank of Captain in Online Conquest. Online Conquest is a mode where you can attack other players fortresses online to earn rewards such as loot and money as well as to try and recruit more Orcs from them. You will be timed when you attack a fortress and get a boost to your rank based on that. If you complete it within seven minutes you get a gold rating, within ten minutes a silver rating and longer than ten minutes you get bronze. You get a one hundred point boost to your rank for earning gold, just twenty five points for silver and no points for bronze and if you fail to take the fortress you lose twenty five points off your rating.
You need a rating of 2500 total to be ranked as 'Captain'.
Your overall rating is based on your total attack rating and your total defence rating combined. You can affect your defence rating by bolstering your defences. You can do this in the Army menu for a fortress you own by pressing then adding a Captain to each of the slots. You need to purchase some of the slots before you can assign a Captain to it. You will want to assign a Captain to each slot in all four fortresses and purchase an upgrade for each of the Captains. The higher the level of your Captain, the more it will add to your defence rating. My highest were level fifty one but most were in the mid fourties. With all four fortresses filled with Captains and upgrades to their captains I had around 1500 defence rating. My attack rating was around 1000 after eight successful attacks with a gold rating and one successful attack with a silver rating and one loss. With this I was able to just edge over the needed 2500 rating to unlock this achievement.
This is of course more achieveable if you had all level sixty Captains or if you were successful at taking fortresses online with a gold rating, however the more successful you are the higher your attack rating is, which in turn has you attack higher rated fortresses, thus getting harder the more successful you are. I found my way to be a compromise that minimized any grinding.
Your online conquest rank is determined by the overall Assault and Defence Ratings of your forces across all regions of the game. Captain is rank 5 out of 10, requiring a total combined rating of 2500 to unlock the trophy.
As part of the story you will automatically be building your forces, if you are actively buying siege/defence upgrades and assigning the highest level orcs available, which you should be doing your rating will gradually grow over the course of the game. You can check your progress in Pause Menu > Online > to view your current online rating. The trophy will pop once you reach Captain rank by checking your online rating.
See a screenshot below of all 10 ranks and the required rating to reach them:
Sometimes the stats don't always sync between your offline and online rating, I found that travelling to each region and viewing the online rating again would sometimes force it to update correctly, or just checking again after playing the game for a while.
Once you reach Level 45 and complete the Pit Fights of each region you will have all Siege and Defense slots unlocked, allowing you to further increase your rating.
You should achieve Captain Rank during Act 4, if you don't for whatever reason play the first online conquest available in each region and try to finish it in time to get a gold rating, this will increase your rating by 100 every time, as long you didn't lose any orcs in the process. I only recommend doing this once per region as subsequent online conquests pit you against harder fortresses with much higher defense ratings, making it considerably more difficult to conquer.
Advice: in order not to waste time on the boss, attack him with a charged ult (L3+R3), summon graug (<-) and spiders (->) to distract his subordinates and cut him down.
1) Pay attention to the ruler's weaknesses. WHAT he is afraid of and what makes him angry, what he is invulnerable to, his bonuses. If fatal to poison, fire, etc. then it’s a no brainer what to do (but I wouldn’t count on it, because the players aren’t stupid either... and most likely they won’t make the one who loses so easily the MAIN)
Most likely, a legendary hero will be waiting for you. At worst - a legendary maniac. But there is also a higher one. In my experience... I came to the conclusion that an ordinary orc with 7 points about “infuriates” and 5 invulnerabilities is much more dangerous than the words “legendary” or “supreme”.
2) Pay attention to the hero's class. And his skills. Because it will be a “pleasant” surprise if suddenly the “bloodhound” turns out to have the skill “without a chance.” I would highlight the opportunist (block of daggers, jumps), the killer (no chance), the tank (due to the hill), well, I think there is no need to explain any more...
3) The type of weapon in the hands and its effects (poison, fire, curse). It may happen that you come across, for example, an orc with 2 axes and a freeze and jump block (this will be fun for you). Accordingly, you need to somehow adapt and understand what is useless against your opponent and what can work (a bow, for example, or hammers)
3.5) Your own arsenal. After all, there are things that, let’s say, heal you when you are on fire, cursed, and reduce the time of negative effects. Some legendary sets give good bonuses. Accumulate more rage, for example. But it’s useless to give advice here, you have to figure it out yourself. (More bow shots, more damage, etc.)
4) skill "Invulnerability to shots." Here I wanted to pay very close attention to this. If it is not there, then there is an option to climb along the walls under the roof (where there are archers) and changing your skills, “pulling the boss towards you with an arrow” and fighting (ideally) one-on-one with him can help a lot. For some orcs specialize in crowd fighting and summoning all sorts of hordes. Olok cannot be pulled in because he is too heavy, but then you can shoot at him with a bow. (for example, you can even put “replenishment of arrows” through submission and “hiding”, attracting “small” orcs to you, sucking life out of them and even healing them so that they do not die. It turns out to be such a good living quiver of arrows.
5) Animal. There are situations here when the enemy is strong in skills and fighting style, but weak to animals. Sometimes you can quickly overwhelm him with it. You can constantly summon, for example, a dog. Or just trample him along with the crowd.
6) There is also a good option: “my” set of skills and ammunition for the fight with the boss (effective if you are good at controlling the life bar).
There is such a legendary set (set), which is collected for a network vendetta (2 things are enough) and which makes it possible for 40% of your life to use any skills that require power. THOSE. you can use Execute, Absorb, Punch, or Explosive Arrow without gaining any power at all. In essence, this means 2 executions in a row, and then you have 20% of your life left. But “our hero” has 2 good skills, one of which allows him to subdue orcs through an arrow, and the second “Completely” restores lives and a little power when subjugated. Accordingly, you can hit an enemy hero with execution 2 times, jump back and in slow motion, aiming with a bow, move to an ordinary soldier (either enemy or allied) and subdue him, while completely restoring his lives. Well, then we repeat everything. 2 executions - arrow, 2 executions - arrow. You can take arrows near walls, they seem to be spammed constantly.
7) And finally. No orcs are perfect, they always have weaknesses, you just need to focus on them. If there was a “perfect orc”, then it would say “invulnerable to everything” and “everything always infuriates”, but I haven’t seen anyone like that yet.
The level of “difficulty” can be easily checked by the level of the chest that is given for a successful capture.
That is: first a chest of lvl 10, then lvl 20, lvl 30 and ascending. Along with it, the difficulty of capturing will increase.
Therefore, I recommend capturing each fortress 2-3 times, this should be enough
