How to unlock the The Stuff of Legend achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of War - Definitive Guide
Note: once you complete Act III, you are given a special legendary set which is not obtainable through normal gameplay. Until Act III, the collection does not appear in the Legendary Sets of the Inventory menu, for spoiler reasons. You can choose to wait until then, or if you want to earn a set earlier, follow below.
Note 2: If you have the The Blade of Galadriel Story Expansion for Middle-earth: Shadow of War, you will obtain 5 legendary sets as part of the side quests required for Complete in Defeat in Middle-earth: Shadow of War. They are mission rewards and each region has a new set..
To access the Legendary Vendetta set:
- Press to access the menus
- Select Inventory
- Scroll to the furthest right option and select View Legendary Sets
- Select the Vendetta list (5th right, top row - image is a red X)
You need to obtain 6 different Legendary items for this set, but some can be obtained at the same time. The list is as follows:
- Vendetta Dagger: Use a Stealth Attack against an Online Vendetta target
- Vendetta Bow: Get a headshot on an Online Vendetta target
- Vendetta Armor: Kill an Online Vendetta while above 80% HP
- Vendetta Cloak: Use a mounted attack against an Online Vendetta target
- Vendetta Ringcraft: Dominate an Online Vendetta target
I did this in Núrnen, where the fort has a couple of drake baits. I found it beneficial to attract them, and let them cause damage whilst I ran around doing what needed to be done. When the drake was broken, I mounted him and caused further damage, taking out all of the captains for their equipment and dealing with the target when applicable. Note that you do need to unlock the Shadow Mount and Dragon Rider skills in the Mounted section of the skill tree.
For the cloak, you can either use the Call Mount or Shadow Mount skills. Caragor Breaker is also useful, and all three are found under Mounted in the skill tree.
They are not random rewards but set requirements.
The easiest to obtain and equip is the "Bright Lord" set.
You must complete the Ithildin Door's this will grant you as rewards.
Bright Lord Sword
Bright Lord Dagger
Bright Lord Bow
Bright Lord Armour
Bright Lord Cloak
After completing all of these. Complete all Shadow of the past missions in
Minas Ithril/Morgul
Gorgoroth
Cirinth Ungol
Nurnen
Seregost
There are 21 in total, four in each city. You'll know that city is finished when you brand an Ancient Warchief. You only need to complete the main objective to get the reward we need.
Completing these grants you the Bright Lord Ringcraft, which completes the set.
Go to the inventory and equip everything, the achievement will pop imediately.
To unlock this achievement you need to equip a full Legendary Gear set. You find Legendary Gear sets as loot for doing certain missions and from opening the Ithildin doors and playing the Online conquests. There are ten sets of Gear to collect, though you only need any one full set for this achievement. You can find them listed in your inventory and if you hover over any piece you are told how to unlock it. You will most likely unlock at least one full set by playing the game, however the easiest and quickest set to unlock is the Vendetta set that is all unlocked by performing certain actions during the Online Vendetta missions.
Once you have a full set, equip them all and the achievement will unlock.
You will automatically be given a full Legendary set before the boss fight at the end of Act 3 which will be automatically equipped.
A full set can obviously be found prior to this point if you get lucky or play a lot of Vendetta missions. Note that it all pieces must be a part of the same actual set (Vengeance, Bright Lord etc), equipping random Legendary gear on all slots won't unlock the trophy.
And if you go to network vendettas, the “vendetta” kit will be received much earlier (which is what I did). I collected most of them in the first act, having fun and understanding the combat; if I had wanted to, I would have collected the set even before the second act. And so I finished off according to my mood during the second.
