How to unlock the Vertical Mobility achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of War - Definitive Guide

To start off, you'll need to have a fully captured region with at least 1 available space in the Army for that region. (You can free up a spot by shunning a follower if necessary).

Next, you'll want to get killed by a random enemy. Just find an area and let yourself die, making sure that you don't die to a captain or warchief. The orc that kills you will get promoted to captain and take up 1 spot in the army. Remember their name and appearance.

The next step is to dominate that enemy that killed you and make them one of your followers. To do this, locate them (in the open world or in a mission), and fight them until you dominate them. Once dominated, recruit them to your team and tell them to retreat.

The last step involves promoting this new follower to the overlord position. The follower must NOT be busy with any type of mission, so if they are, you can aid them in completing their current mission or advance time using a fast travel Haedir point and hope that they survive. Once they are available, Command them and choose the Overlord position (top of the pyramid), and reposition them in order to promote them to overlord, gaining you the achievement.

Funny story, the random olog I chose for this achievement said upon killing me quote "This is only the beginning. One day I'll be an Overlord."

The guide is SLIGHTLY wrong.
At the final step you must select the overlord FIRST, press Y for command, then highlight your chosen lucky grunt and select reposition. Selecting the grunt first only gives the option to protect the overlord. 🙂🖖

Fairly easy to do. Let a grunt kill you so they become a captain. After they kill you recruit them as a captain. Then just swap them with a overlord you already control.

Vertical Mobility Achievement/Trophy Guide

To earn this achievement you will need to take a random enemy out in the world and allow him to rise up to the rank of overlord. The earliest this can be earned is during act 2, just after you finish taking over your first fortress.

Step 1: Find a random Orc and allow it to kill you. This will promote it to captain.
Step 2: A Vendetta mission will spawn allowing you to get revenge on the orc that just killed you. However you will need to dominate it by holding down cn_B when its health is low.
Step 3: Now if you haven't completed the fortress yet, you can place the Orc as Overlord straight away. However if you have completed it and are doing this afterwards, simply go into the Nemesis menu and hover over the orc, then press cn_Y on the captain to command it then press cn_A on the Overlord to replace it.

Allow a grunt to kill you. Then, dominate the newly promoted Captain and promote him to overlord.

For this trophy you first need to have conquered a fortress in the region that you are attempting this in.

Let a random Orc kill you, who will then get promoted to Captain. Find this orc again in the resulting vendetta mission and dominate him. From the army screen press on the captain you just recruited and re-position him by pressing again whilst hovering on the Overlord, the captain will replace him and the trophy will unlock.

See video below from PowerPyx.

To unlock this achievement you need to help a grunt become an Overlord. You will first need to let a grunt kill you so that they become a Captain so go out into the world and let any grunt Orc kill you, making sure it's not a Captain to begin with. That grunt will then be promoted to a captain. From here you need to make sure you own the fortress and then go and find that Orc that killed you and dominate them to recruit them into your army. Once they belong to you, hover over them in the Army screen and press to command them, then hover over the existing Overlord and press to reposition him as the new Overlord, unlocking the achievement.

die at the hands of an ordinary soldier, then recruit him, and switch places between him and your previous ruler

Easily combined with the "If you can't win..." trophy in the first crepe of the second act. If after the trophy and capture the captain is alive, then he is the ruler and the trophy is yours. A little more pain than just putting a ruler in prison, but 2 in one))

If you, like me, complete this trophy after the end of the game, with all the fortresses captured, then in order to make your orc the ruler, you will have to surrender the fortress, capture it again, and only then make this orc the ruler and the trophy will immediately appear.

The trophy is terribly simple.. I spent 4 minutes, at the beginning of the 2nd day (since) I was recruiting captains scattered around the map, but I had to die at the hand of MASOVKA, these are the people on the map marked in red.. God, he is given a title and Name .
