How to unlock the Wild Things achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of War - Definitive Guide
You have to kill three drakes at the start, so simply bring one down, summon your graug and have some fun!
I found it much easier than trying to get one in open play.
Next, you'll also need a Graug, so I would recommend the Upgrade: Graug Call for the Call Mount skill under the Mounted skill chain. Equip this.
To set up you'll want to attack the drake to approximately half health using your Elf-Shot, then go to a large open area and spawn you Graug; then mount them, The next step involves getting the drake to attack you with the fireball attack, so get close to them and follow them around the map if necessary. As they are about to attack, they will stop, hover, open their wings and shoot a fireball. As they are doing this attack, you must hit them in the head with an arrow to bring them down to the ground. Once on the ground, use your Graug to attack them and kill them. Repeat until it works to unlock the achievement.
Quick version: dominate a wild Graug, and use Dragon Song to summon a Drake... Being a summoned mount, it won't fight back making taking it down very quick and easy...
Longer version:
- You'll need to have completed all the Carnan quests, to unlock the Dragon Song skill... As a result, this method is probably best for those near completion, and looking to mop up the last few achievements, so wouldn't recommend it on a fresh start...
- Fast travel to the Haedir located in the South West corner of Seregost (over looks the Ice Plans to the left of the map)...
Every time I travelled here, a Graug spawned just north of the Haedir tower, close enough to see on the mini map... Other guides mention a Drake spawning near here, which I didn't have any luck with after 10ish "Advance Times" unfortunately , so found this method worked a treat...
- Head to the Graug, weaken then dominate it, then mount up and travel out to the far reaches of the Ice Plans
- Summon your Drake, then go to town on it with your bow (charged headshots will kill the Drake the quickest)
Any suggestions to improve or flesh out this guide, let me know
My first guide... Glad it helped someone
Video Guide:
In Núrnen, fast travel to the western Haedir point and you will usually find one or two graugs there. Use an arrow on the drake bait and climb the archer tower. Shoot a few arrows to get the drake's attention and then the drake will then attack you with a fireball, landing on the tower. Smash away and the achievement will unlock. I managed to replicate this three times, so it was not just a coincidence.
Hellfire drakes don't fly, they will always stay grounded, so as soon as you break the cage, summon a graug with Upgrade: Graug Call, mount it and start smashing. Killing it should be pretty easy, I didn't have to weaken it first at all.
This way you can also work on the Such Great Heights achievement.
2. Find a wild Graug (there are loads in Gorgoroth)
3. Dominate the Graug
4. (optional) Climb to the top of a Haedir while riding the Graug to minimise environmental damage to your Graug
5. Summon the drake using Dragon Song
6. Repeatedly shoot the drake until it dies (you don't need to attack it directly with the Graug)
1. Find a wild drake anywhere.
2. Attack the drake until he is broken.
3. Call your graug then mount it.
4. Build your graug's might while the drake flies around.
5. Shoot the drake right as it's attacking to stun and ground it.
6. Use your graug's finisher to immediately kill the grounded drake.
If you missed this opportunity there is another easy method that involves using the 'Call Drake' skill which you get after completing the Carnan Quest line. Find a regular Graug and dominate it, then summon a Drake and dismount it, and attack the drake by any means you desire, since it's dominated it won't fly away and will always stay close to you, try not to do this with too many enemies around as there is the risk an orc may land the final blow.
There is another location you can also attempt this trophy which is the middle Haedir Tower in Nurnen, make sure you have the Call Mount upgrade 'Graug Call' equipped first.
Keep advancing time at this location until a Drake spawns, then summon a Graug for you to mount. Chase down the Drake and shoot it in the head when it hovers and breaths fire and only at that point otherwise the Drake may flee if you damage it too much whilst it's in the air, this will knock it down to the ground. Rush up to it and repeatedly attack with your graug until the drake dies. It's best to try and attempt this in a wide open area so you have move room to maneuver.
See video below from PowerPyx showing this method.
To unlock this achievement you need to kill a Drake while riding a Graug. This is quite awkward to do but not impossible. You will want to have one of these 2 beasts as a summon then go into the world to find the other.
If you summon the Drake you can attack it to lower it's health and it won't fight back otherwise you can attack a Drake until it's nearly dead then summon a Graug and mount it to finish it off. I did the latter. once I found a Drake I used my hammer/ranged weapon to headshot it to bring it to really low health and then quickly summoned a Graug and mounted it. I then used the Graugs breath attack to keep hurting the Drake until it landed near me then mashed on it with the Graug until it died.
There are a few missions for Eltariel where Drakes are present so if you see them quickly apply the Graug Call upgrade to your Call Mount Skill and be ready to summon one to attempt this. You can also replay these missions from the 'Quest' menu if you happen to miss your attempt at doing it.
