How to unlock the Peace in Death achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of War - Definitive Guide

I found a guide on Eurogamer.com that helps a lot.

www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-10-13-shadow-of-war-the-shadow-wars-explained-how-to-get-true-ending-complete-endgame-4823

The Shadow Wars take place after the ending of the game and the Capture of Minas Morgul. It's the set of quests that hide "the true ending" cutscene.

There are ten rounds to the series of attacks on your strongholds. It'a basically defending them until all eight of the Nazgul warchiefs are dead.
Best thing to do in each city is to make a combo of effects, what I found works for me is different to what other guides online, so you may have to experimene a bit.
Metal Walls, Cursed seige equipment, Fire mines, poison spouts and Drake traps are what I used to best effect.

Also, the level of your castle also goes by the level of your Warchiefs and Overlord. You want the highest leveled Orc as your Overlord during the attack. It's wise to assign at least two or three bodyguards to Warcheifs as well. The more damage you can do ti the enemy warchiefs the better.

It's worth noting that you cannot lose any of your Orcs to if you die yourself. They just get ousted from the keep and and you lose control of the citadel. They will die if you repell the attack, however, and in some instances they can even stay dead when you die.
If you loose control of a city (like I did during round three), the game will install an Overlord and six warchiefs. Assign the strongest followers to go to the pitts and set up betrayl missions, just like in the main game. Once recaptured, you've completed the round.
It's a lot easier attacking than defending. But I wouldn't go out your way to kill yourself killed just to do it.

I've also come across that if you don't reach a captain in time before they bleed out, once you loose the keep, they come back for revenge during setting up the attack. I'd advise rebranding them, as they always come back more powerful than when they died. For example, I have an Assassin, Pûg the Poet, he died at level 36 and came back for revenge at level 48, also had an extra Epic trait in his arsenal.

It'a also, worth holding onto your Might metre to ressurect dead captains.

Minas Morgul is the only city that won't come under attack.
There are 10 rounds and 20 defences in total.
Round One: Cirinth Ungol
Round Two: Nurnen
Round Three: Seregost
Round Four: Gorgoroth
Round Five: Cirinth Ungol and Nurnen
Round Six: Seregost and Gorgoroth
Round Seven: Nurnen and Seregost
Round Eight: Nurnen, Cirinth Ungol and Gorgoroth
Round Nine: Cirinth Ungol, Serehost and Gorogoth
Round Ten: All four under attack at once.

Once completed you will see the true ending.

This achievement popped for me before I even started the final defense (4/4) on round 10. It popped while I was sorting my army in the menu prior to starting.

Im just curious to know If someone has the same problem as me. When Im defending and the enemy gets to breach the walls, my captains die always too soon. When I go to help them there are like 2 enemies or less there. I dont understand why and how they start bleeding out so fast.... and they are at a good level. Anyone with this problem or is it the game just like that? I find it ridiculous that such good captains die so fast hahah

Just a heads up, mine popped before I even started my final defense mission in Nurnen. Then shortly after, Such Great Heights popped too...this is definitely glitched, and I'm sure the next update of the game with fix this.

This popped early for me too,whilst on the 'Army' screen in between finishing stage 9 & before starting 10 I switched my overlords & the achievement unlocked. If only the one for dominating an orc after he's killed you 3 times would pop early,it's the only 1 left for me but getting 1to kill me 3 times is being a pain in the butt.

On stage 5 a stray orc shot me down, so I hadn’t to retake the fort, didn’t take long about half an hour. Expecting to have to redefend the fort for the missions, I only had to defend the other fort before it moved me to stage 6, so in the end I only defended 1 fort even though that’s stage is 2 forts. Has it broke for me :(

In short no.
As I said in my solution, I screwed up also, still got the achievement.
As long as you pass on to the next wave, it should be fine.

@lunylad. Solace is right, I failed one defence around stage 5 myself & had to recap it which then completed the stage.As long as the game is moving through the stages you are good.

Personally, I preferred Poison siege beasts and found fire spouts were better if they were bringing Ologs, reinforced gates if not. Spiked walls a must. I also found counterattacking at the start better; if my walls were breached before the third wave, I knew it was going to get ridiculously difficult.

just watch out for assassins as they have 'No Chance'. Recruit as many enemies as possible, if they are too high a level, shame them rather than fight to the death so you can get rid of them asap rather than messing around killing them.

Anyone have an issue with not having the siege mission icons spawn? I just finished Stage 7, and the game showed the next 3 locations being under siege. However, when I go to the map, none of the siege icons for the mission are actually there. In addition, Stage 7 shows as complete in the quests section, and no Stage 8 ones are there........I hope I am not screwed.....

*Edit* Decided to quit the game, and relaunch it. The new missions showed up on load. Whew.....

I don't know if anybody else tried it, but you can resurrect dead Captains and Warchiefs through the Army menu during your defense, so if there is one bleeding out you can't reach, it's not that big a deal.

Do the defenses begin automatically one by one as soon as you start Act IV, or do you have to trigger them? I just started Act IV, so I am hoping to plan and build the armies a bit before jumping into defenses...

I'm working on this after the most recent update and it appears that things have changed. Does anyone have the details on how many stages there are now and how many defenses within each stage?

I've completed stage 1 which was defending Nurnen and am on stage 2 which is defending Nurnen again along with Golgorath and Seregost(I think).

There are only 3 rounds of shadow war now. With the 3rd round being 3 individual siege defenses (or 5 total siege defenses)

Happened to me too, Stage 10 on the 4th Defense. I changed my overlord prior to starting and the achievement unlocked.

I guess it's good if you want to save 20 minutes, or can perhaps be researched to skip even more defenses.

I've just finished the shadow wars, and I was able to keep the invading orcs from ever even breaking down the front gates which prevents the future waves from spawning inside the fortress. I used the iron walls, iron gate, spiked walls, dragon at the gates. Just have to focus any stray graugs as they break walls quickly. Olog captains, even if not warchiefs, would break walls as well although not very quickly. As long as i killed all graugs and ologs the walls never broke and even when the army was 10 levels higher than my orcs it was very easy.

It should be noted that these are insanely easy if you dominate attacking captains/warchiefs, and then choose option B to make them stay and fight with you.

I had so many fights where no one busted through my gates (and I didn't have a metal gate either laugh) because the waves were too busy fighting their own from the previous wave.

If you come across one with iron will, no biggie: shame him and he runs off. wink

It is worth noting that since last week the game has been updated and this achievement now unlocks after significantly less stages ( i think it's 5-6).

Maybe is it due to a recent update, but my Shadow War Run needed only 3 stages :
- Cirith Ungol
- Nurnen
- Nurnen, Seregost, Gorgoroth

After what, the achievement popped and i was able to see the Cutscene.

All other advice on this topic are of course very useful.

On my side I used a lot the Pit Fight (Champion level) to bring strong captain in the game. I faced them with one of my captain, who has a chance to win. Two possibilities : my captain win, and he grow up very fast, OR he loses, so I dominate the winner to add him to my army. Beware the strong capabilities of the opponent which can be shown with RS before the fight : he must not have "strong will" (i don't know the exact word in english) or you will have to kill or humiliate him.
-> With this technique I was able to quickly get a team of lvl 50+ warlords.

Great guide man! This is by far genius. When the enemy wins the pit fight he spawns directly beside you as well so you just weaken then dominate him. Having the Shadow Dominate makes it even easier. Thanks!

I had a glitch while on Stage 3 (Seregost). I died but the fortress. When I was back to the map, the fortress was still mine, there was a Nemesis mission for the orc that killed me but I can continue since I the fortress is mine! It doesn't appear as completed either, I'm afraid I won't be able to finish it... has anyone suffered somehting similar?

@law violation, I find it easier to defend a siege, I just jump over the wall at the start and run out to them. Try and dominate the captains as you go and tell them to stay and fight.

To add on to the above tips....

If you're ever in a situation where you're about to die from a "No Chance" Captain, you can simply hit the Home button on your controller before he kills you and quit out of the game from the Home menu. When you restart, you'll still have your fortress intact. Youll have to do the fortress battle over again, but it sure as hell beats having to infiltrate 6 fucking Warchiefs in order to retake the castle, which can take hours!

I got hit by a no chance overlord after defeating/branding all his warchiefs. When i tried the siege again, only the warlord was there and I went straight to the jeep when I started the siege. Happened twice in a row before I beat him.

*edit*
Due to the changes to microtransactions my solution won't work anymore!
**edit_end*

The guide above is good. There is a loot box trick to get unlimited Loot-Boxes with ingame currency. With these you can get Orcs close to your current level -> No Orc training required.

Here is how:
1. Make sure your latest save is synched to cloud
2. Go to ingame market an buy standard loot boxes with ingame currency (Mirian, spend everything you can)
3. Once purchased, quit to main menu BUT leave the game up and running!!!, go to Dashboard, highlight Shadow of War, press cn_start -> Manage game. Choose to delete your save game on console only! Do not delete everywhere!!!!
4. Because you deleted the save, Shadow of War will be closed. Start it.
5. On startup it will sync your cloud save -> You have all your Mirian back and because the loot boxes are saved on WB servers you still have the ones you purchased.
6. Repeat with step 2

THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH PREMIUM CURRENCY!!! as this is stored on WB servers, too!

Story related and cannot be missed

Note: As of the July 17th update, the amount of siege missions required to be completed has been reduced

This will unlock upon completing Act 4. This is where you will be defending your fortress again and again until 100% completion.

General tips and advice:

  • Defences - By using Reinforced Stone/Metal Walls, Iron Gates, Hellfire and Spike Walls you reduce the risk of a perimeter breach dramatically.
  • Dominate Captains/Warchiefs - Always dominate high level enemy warchiefs, they can stay in the siege and help out and you can use them to replace your lower level orcs.
  • Siege Beasts, Drakes - Often attacking forces will have Siege Beasts and Drakes, get rid of them ASAP, dominating a Drake is also an excellent way of killing enemy captains and warchiefs quickly.
  • Bodyguards - Always assign bodyguards to your warchiefs, this dramatically improves survivability of your warchiefs, assign one to yourself as well.
  • Useful Skills - Shadow Dominate (finish Eltariel quests), Ice Storm, Chain of Souls, Call Graug, Enrage Followers. These all have general uses to make dominating warchiefs and combat a bit easier to manage in these hectic battles.
  • Undying Loyalty - Finish all Minas Morgul Pit Fights to unlock this skill. You can resurrect any warchiefs/captains killed in a Siege, but they will be 5 levels lower than they were before.
You can also make use of the war chest exploit to get a constant supply of high level orcs, see Follower Perks.

This achievement will unlock after completing the Shadow War missions that unlock after completing the main story of the game.

After patch 1.18, Act 4 was greatly shortened; now you need to go through 3 periods and defend only 5 fortresses.
Period 1-2: 1st siege
3rd period: 3 sieges
About upgrades as written above:
-Iron walls;
- Fire or poisonous walls;
- Squad of Ax Warriors;
- Fire breath (dragon at the gate);
- Damned siege beasts (personally, I installed fiery ones);
- Vigilant archers;

If you lost a fortress, don’t be upset, enslave all the orcs in the area and recapture it (probably possible without enslaving, but it will be more difficult), and voila the trophy has fallen, there will be no more defense of the fortress, otherwise I thought I’d also have to go through the defense again.

The most hemorrhagic section of the game in order to get the full ending. It consists of 10 periods, you have to defend the fortress across the entire map, if you fail the defense you will have to recapture the fortress and before that save the leader who was captured. I advise you to recruit fighters on the battlefield and immediately leave them to fight for you , the people will not interfere. If you can’t recruit, lower the level and the captains will leave the battlefield. Sometimes it was not clear what was happening on the map, due to the accumulation of orcs. And + of course, spiders and graug to help.

I did it much simpler, at the moment when the orc is already swinging at you and you have no chance of repelling, just press the magic PS button, go to the main menu of the console and start the game again. The checkpoint will be in the fortress right before you start defending it.

Everything is much simpler, you put weak captains in defense, drain the citadel, and then make a capture, capturing is much easier than defending.

At the same time, you recruit someone and disgrace someone.

The battle with the captain in the citadel is very simple if you use a strike from the shadows with attraction, climb onto the ledge where a couple of archers usually stand, and using the “strike from the shadows with attraction” we attract the captain and unwind him there.

You will lose the defense. No problem! Capture again and this will also advance the period of the shadow war. That is, you will not need to defend yourself in this fortress again. It is enough to regain possession of it.

I had a bug with these wars; after the 9th period, the tasks for the 10th period did not appear. There was a backup with safes after the 7th, I had to go through it again. So, just in case, dump the safes onto a flash drive after each period.

Draining a fortress and then capturing it again is not always faster than simply defending it, and by the way, the leader in the fortress taken from you may turn out to be prohibitively strong, and you will waste a lot of time and nerves on him. I once had a leader with all possible resists, you can’t drag him onto a shelf, he blocks all the moves, adapts to what he has, and even heals, that was fun, so think 100 times before surrendering the fortress)

In total you will have to endure 20 sieges:
Periods 1-4: 1 siege
Periods 5-7: 2 sieges each
8-9 periods: 3 sieges each
Period 10: sieges of all 4 forts

As mentioned above, it is better to install reinforced gates, iron walls and spikes on the walls. With such protection and the rapid extermination of captains, it is likely that enemies will not even be able to get inside the fort, especially in the early stages, when enemy captains do not yet have many bodyguards.
If at the beginning of the siege you run away from the walls of the fort, then ordinary enemy orcs will simply run past, not paying attention to Talion. It is convenient to attract captains from the gate to such places and deal with them one on one.
It is better to upgrade your captains to the maximum and assign them as many bodyguards as possible so that they can kill enemy leaders and bodyguards themselves without the help of Talion.
Closer to the 10th period, I strongly recommend copying your saves to the cloud/flash drive after each defense, because you may come across an unkillable and unstunned frost-resistant captain of level 65, carrying out frantic attacks that restore health, which even 8 of my captains, simultaneously attacking, could not kill ( In the end, we had to pull him onto the roof and covertly attack him from a higher roof for a long time).

The trophy is not that difficult, but very long and tedious. The main problems may be crooked controls, which make it difficult to reach the desired target in the crowd, as well as the endless chatter of the captains.

Upgrading the fortress is very much on topic. Especially the reinforcement of the walls of the two caps. It is very unlikely that you will break through beyond the first gate. Plus assigning bodyguards to captains helps a lot. Since the attackers all go in 3s. Instead of a graug, the dragon helps a lot. True, attackers often have protection from fire.

a simple trophy, but a little tedious, the main thing here is how your level increases - we buy chests for silver (by the end of the game there should be a lot of it) and place new orcs with higher levels at key points of the fortresses and in general that’s all, the orcs do it themselves work (well, I also started the battle by shooting the enemy’s siege animals with a bow, subduing them from the shadows and shooting the enemies, it’s also not bad to shoot at the demolition men who are running to the castle gates), with such tactics I don’t have an enemy I’ve never captured more than 1 point, and that one at the gate, I haven’t lost more than one siege. It’s also necessary to take all the improvements - iron walls (so that they take longer to break, but for now we can shoot from above and jump on the enemies’ heads in stealth), spikes on the walls (so that the fastest ones don’t get in), the dragon at the gate (a particularly useful thing, the burning of enemies is great, at the first stages most of the enemies lay there), the rest is optional.

I will describe in detail what is needed for this trophy point by point As described earlier, you need to go through the “Wars of Shadows”, consisting of 10 stages, in each stage there is a sub-stage for protecting the fortress, where you need to defend at first:
- 1 strength;
- 2 fortresses;
- 3 fortresses.

Place the main emphasis on saving using external media, by - passing the difficult stage - EXITING - SAVING )) It’s better to go back one step than to capture a fortress after defeat, and then go back and try to withstand waves of orcs

So, now I’ll describe point by point how easy it is to pass waves:

1) Buy an upgrade to increase XP for 2 hours, it will help you level up faster and brand all worthy allies in the future;

2) Upgrade your fortress and feel free to install the following upgrades -
-Iron walls;
- Fire or poisonous walls;
- Squad of Ax Warriors;
- Fire breath (dragon at the gate);
- Cursed siege beasts;
- Vigilant archers;
- Fire mines.

3) Distribute leaders taking into account their ranks and classes, the better the competence, the better the protection will be, and for each leader - distribute guards as many as you have (from two to four).

4) Your character will need a call:
- Grauga;
- Spiders.

5) At the moment of conquest, do not immediately fly into the epicenter of the battle for the point, there is such a congestion there that nothing is clear, it is better to wait until your “fighters” do the work for you, and then come up and brand a new fighter into your army and be sure to leave him to fight for you - a combination brand + recruit + leave to fight for you = new fighter and increased defense power

The trophy is really very boring - around 7-8 hours, but if you use the entire strategy that I have outlined, then there will definitely not be anything difficult for you!
