The first lever appears on Level 6. Shoot Midnight onto the ledge on the top left and his friend will roll until he falls off, hitting the lever at the bottom.

You pull a lever by either hitting it yourself of bouncing one of Midnight's friends into it. You will obtain this naturally during the grind for Expert.
