How to unlock the Gold Medalist achievement in Midway Arcade Origins - Definitive Guide

I had a tough time with this one, so I figured I'd record it. Like everyone else said, do the Downhill area. I don't recommend jumping; I didn't have any luck with it. Try to cut corners carefully without falling off. Don't despair if you don't get it at first...this isn't easy and the controls are absolutely awful.

I have hated this game since I was a child. the best thing about the game was the cabinet itself. Thanks for the guide as i never wish to play 720 again.

For the right on the dpad trick to work you need to orient your controls right in the main world.

Also you need to angle yourself on the slope before you fall to hit the ground right, not as your falling

I figured out a great way to make sure your controls are set somewhat more natural feeling. When you are in the beginning where you can skate into the center where it says "experienced level" press up on the D Pad/Left stick and hit A once. You'll have done it right if you move up the ramp just enough to roll youself backward into the bottom corner. I found that my controls were more consistent and made the event tons easier.

I've never felt more rage in my life while playing a game than when I played this POS. I had heard the game and more so controls we're bad but I had no freakin' idea. I wanna throw everyone responsible for making this game into a volcano.

Got it my 4th or 5th try, wasn't too bad. It was harder getting to the downhill event than it was doing the event. Uninstalled the entire game after getting this achievement.

Eventually got it. Small tip if you're struggling with the controls: try rotating your controller clockwise by 90° to align your left stick movements with the skater

@FireWheels58 - Good tip on rotating the controller, makes it much easier. Still took me about 30 goes though. 😩

As far as the awful controls, I found that by rotating the joystick when you're selecting your experience level, I could get them oriented right. Almost like calibrating or something.

God these were the worst controls ever. Once you figure out how backwards and touchy they are you'll be able to cut the corners consistently, but boy does that take a long time.

Also, if the controls feel backwards before you go to the downhill, jump until your thumbstick direction actually matches the direction you're moving in.

So the controls in this game are the absolute worst. It seemed like at random times the thumbstick controls would just change orientation on me.

I found that it was best if you hit Right on the D-Pad to face your character down the ramp before kicking off to go with A.
Sometimes your guy would start at the top of the ramp facing a different direction, which throws off your thumbstick controls.
So like I said, use the D-Pad, then the thumbstick afterwords.

Choose training and go to ramp park level 1 (northwest). Then press A once, and just use your D-pad or left stick to control. You should make it in time to get the gold medal if you don't fall down.

Worked for me. However, just before I reach the top of a ramp, I press the kick button (A is default), and I just made it in time for gold. If I don't press the A button, the skater grabs the edge of the ramp instead of making a high jump. Just turn in midair and make no mistakes.

This was actually my first achievement in the game, its quite simple to get on the downhill route. Just make sure you jump at every turn and land in the right direction. Also note that you have to start moving as soon as the game starts as the timer starts going before the tip disappears.

I think what Sangriaz meant is to go to the park in the northwest of the map. It's called the downhill park. The ramp park is actually in the northeast of the map. The controls in this game are god awful, but after about 20 tries I finally got the gold medal. I think the trick is to start turning before you actually hit the next ramp on the way down, so that you land flat and it doesn't slow you down.

Chose the downhill track on the top off the training level, just hit A before the jump and land in the direction of the next ramp took me 3 tries after playing others for 2 hrs lol

I didn't hit A, but what I did was aim at the corner of the jump. Took me quite a few tries, though.

I would advise jumping cause it gives you more room for error and keeps your speed

I didn't jump also and it worked like a charm. Just make sure you hit corners of the ramp.

I found it more simple after buying the "hot" board from the shop

Do it on downhill track on the top off the training level, just tap A and when landing aim diagonal it take a few trys but it works better than trying it normal

The quirky controls will be the most difficult thing to overcome. You can Start the game and stay in the training area for a bit of an easier time but I found this easiest to complete by kicking off and using the to steer continue directly up which is more your upper left, and take the first street on the left continue down and up into the alcove to purchase the hotboard then head back the way you came and take the first street heading upwards this will bring you to the downhill ramp. I found that jumping to cut corners actually makes this harder and followed the concepts of this video.

Now here is one of the trophies, though not too difficult by itself, is made challenging by rough controls. When you start, make sure to choose "Training Level". Now, the easiest way I found to get a Gold Medal is to head to the Downhill Park. All you have to do is ride down this descending skate hill in time to get gold. There is a timer at the top of the screen that shows how quickly you have to complete it.

Without question, the hardest part about this game is getting used to the controls. Spend a few minutes practicing getting the controls down. Once you feel ready, go ahead and give it a try.

The fastest and safest way to get downhill is to go wide before each drop, then cut over so you can make the drop as straight to being parallel to the next platform as possible. Do not jump between each one. Just make sure to line your skateboard up parallel to each lower platform as you go between them. This will definitely take you several tries to master, but once you have the feel for it down, it becomes one of the easier Golds in this collection.

Some have said the Ramp Park is pretty easy, too, but I really struggled getting better than Silver on it. Stick with Downhill - it's much easier.

the easiest test is the downhill, located at the top of the map, you can also buy a new board along the way for 25 bucks (though I don’t know if it’s much use)
