How to unlock the Reality Show-Off achievement in Midway Arcade Origins - Definitive Guide

People, don't fret this notoriously difficulty arcade game. If you get this correct what I'm about to tell you. You will get this achievement in an easy way. All you have to do is press A rapidly when you are about to lose a last life. If done correctly, you will get an extra continue and it give you 6 lives. The catch is you must have 500,000 points or higher in order to get this trick work.

Keep practice collect gifts, money and power ups as much as you can to help you to process first level. Follow the path to the bottom of the map to the boss. Easy way to kill the Muntiod Man Stay on top left and shoot him with power up gun and you will have no problem with it. Personally, doing bottom of the maps is more easier then upper part of the map.

Rapidly A Continue trick credit goes to KTILLA23. He discovered it by an accident and told me about it over XBL. I have his permission to use the trick he discovered. Thank you, KTILLA23.

If you have a trouble with this, please leave the comment. I will leave a comment to help for any more tips. Thank you for positive vote...for those who gave a negative vote, please leave a comment otherwise.

Help! lol God i hate smash tv. anyways...

Ok, so I can glitch to work. SOMETIMES. sometmes however, it just gives me a game over. my strategy has been to , on my last life, just to pound the a button till i die. like i said, its not 100%. is there a specific time the a button must be pressed exactly?

Also, in testing. when it does work, i will go ahead and just waste all my lives to see if it will also work a second time. never has, so is this glitch just once per game? or have u been able to do it multiple times.

any info would be great. Thanks!

Okay, like I said in the guide, it has to be over 50,000 points or higher in order to make this work. I ran out of my lives in the tank control arena before the boss room, the Muntiod Man. When you see 1 life left on the top left of your screen, be prepare and expect to die then press A until the game over appears where the lives tab are. If done right, you should get an extra continue that has 5 or 6 lives just like you had when you started the game. If you still have a trouble with it, contact KTILLA23 on xbl. Hes the one that discovered it and tested it a few times to make sure it works. Hope this help and good luck.

Ktilla told me over xbl about the trick he discovered and i was skeptical at first. the first time i tried it, it didnt work. maybe i wasnt fast enough to press button A right before hes about to die. so i tried the second time, it worked.

you dont need 500,000/ I tested this in the 2nd room (you can easily get 50k in the first room) in the 2nd room i can get this to work, everytime, but it seems like in later levels when you really need it, it doesnt work. at least for me!

By JohnnyMurder138 on 09 Nov 2012 16:05
you only get 50k once to get it work. not sure if it add up again to make this work. i never had an issue with run out of lives. like i said aboved, conserve your lives and fight all the way to the tank control room which you more likely to die the last one then use button a trick to get extra 6 lives. By the time you have 6 lives, you will finish the tank control room and move to the muntiod man room to face the boss.

Ok i see some people having problems getting this glitch to work, so I'll just get everything cleared. Yes you do need 500,000 to do it, i must of looked at it wrong but just tested it and it's 500,000 score you need. Like Motorex said once you get the the Tank Control room is when you should use this continue glitch. It works 99% of the time for me. And yes you can only do this once a game, I've tried to do it at 1,000,000 to see if it's every 500,000 but it's not . If you have any other question about getting it to work just ask here. :)

Ok, to be clear. You need to press A button when you are about to die. I suggests you to press A button before you die. Not after. When you did it correctly, it will says continue? where your life icon tab are, press A again.

You just have to be tapping the button really rapidly. Worked every time.

Hmmm... I've failed to get this to work eight times in a row. When I'm getting to my last life I'm not even playing the game, just tapping A as fast as I can (which is pretty fast). I've had well over 500,000 each time, too.

I had given up all hope for this to work, I tried it at least 20 times, but I FINALLY had it work in the boss room, after that it was easy. The glitch is obviously quite random, I don't think you can really count on it always working, at least I couldn't.

Thanks for the comments, people. I cant quite figured out why it doesnt work for some people here. As I recalled, Killa told me he got it work a several times no problem and same for me except for the first time that I didnt get it right.

RadiantViper, again thanks for the comment and glad you got the achievement. At least, thats all it matters.

There must be some weird random circumstance necessary for this to happen. I've tried it tens of times without any luck. I'm at the point where I might get it legitimately soon, as I've just had my best game, getting to Mutoid Man with two lives left (and not a single extra life pickup). When I was down to my last life I just stood there and hammered A for all I was worth, and absolutely nothing happened.

i've had the continue on about 450.000 so there goes the 500k theory... Last night I had this happening pretty frequently, while other nights i only get the continue once or twice...

I was thinking, could it have something to do with the date or something? as this happened to me earlier... one day i got loads of continues and other days i got only a few.

I got the rapid a trick to work without the rapid fire. I'm not sure if the trick just doesnt work if you don't tap fast enough or if it's just random, but it didn't work on every attempt. Make sure that you aren't completely reliant on the second chance though. I was able to keep myself alive until just before I entered the boss fight

Rooee, I'm sorry to hear that. I do not know what caused not to work. What I did was killing all the way to the last room before the boss room, this room what most people tends to die at....as soon as you know you are about to die, tapping "A" button as fast as you can. This should work for you as I tested it at friend's. Please read I am Mindslave's comment a few posts above. Good luck.

I got it to work, but a solution on how to actually play the game and which doors are the best to go through would have been nice.

While I got this glitch to work, it still wasn't enough to get me through the game.

Haha litterally the next time I tried after my previous post I did it. 7 lives in the room right before mutinoid. I probably tried this achievement 5 or 6 times each session being a couple hours.
Patience is key, try the glitch every time even though it doesn't work all the time, and hope to get lucky with the right weapon drops. I wouldn't have done this without everyones advice thanks!

This one was pretty brutal, struggled with this one more then any other in the collection. I didn't have any prior experience with Smash TV so it took me most of the day practicing. It seemed like drops were pretty random, so it took the right series of drops for me to get to the boss with a few lives left.

I ended up in the boss zone with 3 lives remaining, and defeated him on my last life.

As far as the glitch, I didn't have my turbo controller handy and rammed A as fast as I could and in a few instances hit all the buttons as a few people mentioned it on various forums. I never got it to work, but I got there legit in the end :).

Good Luck! Just keep trying until you get the right drop order.

I managed to get the glitch to work only once, but I ended up doing it legit. I wouldn't recommend going through all the top rooms, but instead follow the solution with the video guide (currently the bottom one). I found that sequence of rooms much easier to go through than across the top in the money room.

Dumb question regarding the glitch: how do I know when I'm about to die? Is there something on the screen to use as a cue? Or do I just predict, "uh, oh, I'm gonna be toast in half a second, better try the glitch"? I tried pressing A then immediately walking into a bomb - I was "about to die," right? But that didn't work.

If you're on your last life, and then get hit, just start spamming A straight away and hope you get it. If you pull it off at any point you should succeed on that run getting this achievement easily. I got it to work on my second run and was just hopeful more than anything, was surprised when I got the continue.

By Leap Of Faith77 on 23 Jul 2021 05:16
The top left thing is the timer/usage of the current weapon pick up I believe, such as tri-shot or rpg etc. Have a look next time you play to see if it's that.
And the blue orb copies your attacks for its duration. So if you have an rpg for example, you'll be firing two lines of rockets. Works with them all even just the normal machine gun, have you not noticed the bullets coming from it when you pick it up?
Think maybe the buzzer is the red balls about to spawn in maybe??

I genuinely had more trouble with the Joust 2 achievement than this. Joust 2 took me 20+ attempts whereas this was only 5/6. If you get the glitch, that run should be a win, 7 lives + another 7 lives with the continue is plenty. If it's true that it doesn't work on tank trouble than I suggest purposely dying on crowd control to get the extra 7 lives. 7 should be enough to get through tank trouble, and as long as you kill the red balls in the boss room you shouldn't lose a live at all for the boss. Just stay top left, I never got hit once there.

It actually is all luck based guys spent a good 6 hours trying to complete just this and I ended up with 6 life’s with mutoid man and finished off with 4 life’s left just gotta pick up all the life’s possible and stay around the middle and then with mutoid man knock the gunners out and then the robots aim is really bad so I just stuck a few metres away and on the left side and all the spawns dropped right in front of me basically hope this helps hell of a achievement

I had a better luck with the glitch if I paused the game rapidly along with hitting the A button. Sometimes I would purposely kill myself so I could start doing it before I died. This was working well for me but when I finally got this achievement I got lucky and did it without the glitch. I got good item drops and 3 extra lives and beat the first stage on my last life. This game can just be random, anyway good luck guys!!!

Jeez, Flik Nightshade...I would have not put up a solution if it doesn't work. It indeed works as I described. 15 people voted it positive which clearly tells you that it worked for them as well. 3 do not for whatever the reason, unfortunately. I felt that it's my duty to help people out in an easy and possible way to do. Or people chosen not to, it's their choice to do a legit way which is fine with me. I have no problem with that at all.

Good, vSully. I'm glad it worked out well for you. Thanks for your comment.

I just unlocked it using a turbo controller with auto-fire. As soon as I started playing I set the "A" button to auto-fire and had it at the highest speed setting. With it on rapid auto-fire I could just concentrate on playing and as soon as I lost my last life, the game gave me the continue. The auto-fire feature makes it easier since I didn't have to worry about when to hit the "A" button and how fast.

I got the trick to work a bunch yesterday. But now i keep making it to the room before mutinoid and dying, and I can't get it to work.
I kind of felt that the x button was playing a part in getting the glitch to happen, when i tried the button mashing technique. I've also tried hammering just "A" without success (which is quite fast).
I have a feeling getting some lucky drops near the end will end up making this happen without the glitch, although it doesn't hurt to try I guess.
Finishing this is proving to be a chore, but for how easy the rest of the game was it seems fitting ending it with a real challenge.

Got it! The Mutoid Man was on his last phase and then I lost my last life. I was about to get absolutely livid, but then I pressed the A button three times after my death not expecting it to work, and got seven extra lives.. So no one really knows how to get this to reliably work or what is needed. Just have to keep trying and you will get it eventually!

Thanks for that. I've managed to get it to work a very low percentage of the time. I know I will get this eventually. I've managed to make it to the boss a few times, but never with more than 2 extra lives. The onslaught of red balls at the start always claims one, giving me very little margin for the rest.

If anyone is feeling helpful, there are a few more things I haven't figured out:
1. The meaning of the segmented red/green indicator at the top left. It starts at all green, "depletes" to red over time, and refills all at once to green. I can't tell what makes it deplete, what makes it refill, or why it matters.
2. The function of the pickup that causes one blueish orb to spin around the player sprite.
3. The meaning of the sound that sounds like a warning buzzer.
4. Why the extra life marker looks like Paul McCartney circa 1964.

I agree with Leap of Faith77, the Joust 2 achievement is was harder.

For this one I went the "lower path" since I would die more frequently on the "upper path". There is also lot of luck required to have a "good run" for this achievement. I had several additional lives spawn on my way to the boss so I did not take advantage of the "secret continue". What caused me most of the trouble where enemies entering the room while I was standing next to a door and killing me and getting killed while going for a weapon or a bonus. BTW the best bonus is probably the shield. In the end I was lucky enough to enter the boss room with a rocket launcher and get a shield right away and additional heavy weapons before any of the shrapnel enemies could spawn. I think the boss got even stuck in my constant attack.

All in all it took me around 1 hour/5-6 proper attempts to get the achievement.

I'm shocked this worked, I was at the last room fighting the boss with one life left and I had about 1.2 million points. I rapidly pressed 'A' and was able to continue with another 6 or 7 lives. I finished the boss with a single life left.

OK, I took close to that many attempts, but did get it, so I'll share my thoughts:
1. When the path splits, go down.
2. Power-ups, power-ups, power-ups. Look for them to appear and get all of them that you can. The movement boost and blue companion orb are decent, and all the rest are awesome.
3. You're less likely than you'd think to get hit when moving and shooting in the same direction. Remember that when going for power-ups. Point your feet and gun in the same direction and go get it, especially if it's a carpet bomb or invincibility!
4. It sounds obvious, but don't run into landmines. Remember where they are, so that when stuff covers them, you won't hit one. During your typical playthrough, how many landmines do you hit? If your answer isn't ZERO, you really need to work on that.
5. Don't underestimate the shrapnel guys that lurk around the edges. Pay attention to them and take them out quickly.
6. I never got the extra lives glitch to work on the penultimate level ("Tank Trouble"), but it worked pretty reliably for me on the preceding one ("Crowd Control"). The playthrough where I got the achievement was one where I got the glitch to work on that level and finished it without losing another life. I had six extra lives for the last two levels, which was enough.

I have played a lot of Smash TV, so getting this achievement on my second try was what I expected.

When choosing your path through the first level, I have always found it easier to go up at the first junction. It is shorter (or at least the rooms go faster) and the cash room will boost your score as well, which is the point of Score Attack anyway. ;) You will avoid the longer Shrapnel rooms, and the upper route has the lowest occurrence of the swarming spheres that I noticed.

Extra lives and nukes spawn randomly, and it's possible to get up to 8 lives after the first 3 rooms. Another tip is that you can slip through crowds of melee enemies as long as you have enough speed to avoid their swings.

I tried the upper area, but to be honest it felt a lot more difficult and I would lose more lives than going the lower path.

I went upwards since I was losing almost all of my lives going downwards. Did it first try going upwards! I did get super lucky with the shields though; I had multiple times where I was getting back-back-back shields so I was staying alive for more than 40+ seconds just cause of the shields.

If you're struggling going either upwards or downwards, do the opposite. Upwards is more difficult, but because of the shields I breezed past the levels. Went into the boss fight with 3 lives, the most I had going into the boss fight.

In the boss fight. After you destroy the turrets, just stay in the top-left corner and ONLY get powerups you're able to get safely. The fight took me about 10 minutes because I wasn't getting lucky with powerups spawning on the left side of the room. Whenever I got the shield, I was always being aggressive trying to find a weapon on the other side of room, then I would bring it back to the top-left and rinse and repeat.

In addition to the video solution, I'd like to explain this boss fight a little more. Understanding the fight is key to victory!

- You'll most likely get a couple of red balls at first, destroy these and then the boss will be there.

- When the boss spawns, kill the 2 little guys in front of his "feet" for them to stop shooting these red balls at you .

- When you're done with those 2 little fellas, focus on grabbing a powerup, and then stay in the upperleft corner like in the video.

- If you do it right, at some point the boss will loose its arms, and after that the head. At this point the boss can't fire at you anymore and blue fat guys will appear. If you can finish 'em off but the boss is a bigger priority here!

- At this point, he will be immune to regular bullets, so pickup the powerups again to kill off his armor, turning him into an egg sitting in a tank.

- Pickup rocket launcher/grenade launchers?? and keep hitting him, you can even hit him from any side now.

When you pass this stage, he will explode. Just walk into the exit and the achievement is yours.

I hope this helps!

After a lot of trial & error I’ve found the best route is to go down, I tried the up route multiple times & ended up losing alot more lives then I needed to. Plus the up route has a bonus round that is very long & constantly sends tons of enemies at you.

Now for the boss fight you need to remember one thing: their is no time limit so don’t try to rush through it or you will lose. Try to stay at the top left & wait for a power-up to spawn, if it spawns to close to the boss or looks like you may die getting it then just ignore it & wait for the next one. Your standard gun doesn’t affect the boss but will destroy the projectiles he sends your way. Also beware of the sharpness guys that spawn in.

Good luck, you’ll need it for this achievement.

This will be the pain of the game. The first try it took me 7-8 attempts but in order to practice the method it took another 30+ until I beat it again. It has to be done in score attack without continues available

The pick-ups I had spawn meant everything, I wasn't the greatest at this game and needed at least 2 extra lives and some good luck with the barrier blades and spread shots. Invincibility can prove extremely useful as well if they drop for you. The usage left on a pickup weapon is displayed under the score.

I did this without the continue glitch, it never worked for me. For the most part learning the game will be the deciding factor in you netting this achievement, roughly being able to make it to the fourth room without dying is the first key. Once you have mastered this making it further will be mostly dependent on your drops or if you have a history of being a NG: black S rank master (skill). As you progress through each room stay to center as much as possible, it allows for the most versatility on pickups and the longest amount of time versus enemies, Focus on getting wall snipers down as quick as possible as they only add to the pain of things. Invincibility can be used to destroy large groups of enemies by simply walking through them but monitor your item Usage left as to not waste lives.

If you can make it to the Mutoid man boss room your relatively in the clear, he is a giant tank that will bounce back and forth near the bottom of the screen allowing you to get past on the northern most wall, hug it closely. Clear out the bad guys watch out for the occasionally shrapnel spawn and play smart, he will drop required special weapons to destroy him. I focused on only getting the rocket launcher to maintain great distance as to not risk deaths. Just focus on destroying the sections of tread and his body he will blow up a couple of times and then you will get this.

There's a little trick to making this trophy way easier. When you're on the last life and die which would otherwise result in a game over, mash X as fast as you can as you die and the game should continue with another 7 lives. You must also have 500,000 points for this to work. I found dying on purpose in the 2nd last or last room before the boss to refill all your lives is best, that way you should have 500,000 by then and go into the boss room with 7 lives.

Well. Here it is. Your punishment for easy trophies in this collection. Smash TV. An excellent twin-stick shooter that also happens to be crazy challenging - especially in Score Attack mode. Definitely the hardest trophy in the game. The premise is simple enough. Think "Running Man" with a MUCH higher body count. You just have to get through 6 increasingly difficult rooms with 100's of bad guys before facing off with the boss of the first level, Mutoid Man.

This will definitely test your skill and patience. Here is what I found helps -

  • Take the bottom path when given the choice. The bonus money round up top is way too tough to consistently have a chance.
  • Luck is very important. How well you do is based off of what the game gives you for power-ups.
  • The best power-ups? Extra lives. The invincibility shield. The spread gun.
  • You have an invincibility shield after each death for a few seconds. USE IT!
  • You don't have to take out the big exploding shrapnel guys, but be aware of their shrapnel.
  • When you get into a room with Wall-Mounted turret guys, try to take them out before baddies start to spawn.
  • Take out Tank guys, Wall-Mounted turret guys and the bouncing red orbs ASAP!
  • Conserve power-up ammo when you can, especially good stuff like spread gun, RPG's, etc.
  • It's a given, but try to conserve your lives. It's safe to have around 4 or 5 lives left when you get to second to last room - Tank Control.
  • When you get to Mutoid Man's room, prepare for bouncing red orbs first, then focus as much as you can on his left turret. After that, get behind him. He can't hit you from the left behind him. Just be wary of his turrets, if they remain. Cautiously grab power-ups and spam him from behind him (keeping in mind your regular gun doesn't hurt him) - NEVER GET IN FRONT OF HIM! Also, be wary of the big exploding guys that come in and their shrapnel.

Be forewarned. This may take hours to defeat. But keep at it. Eventually you'll know patterns and get a good run with killer power-ups! Once Mutoid Man is defeated, that sweet, sweet gold is all yours!

you can cheat when you lose all your lives, quickly press the button then you will still live

this can only be done once per game

the boss in the first level is VERY tenacious, so the tactic “keep moving slowly will continue” works best, don’t get into trouble, stay in the upper corners of the room, kill the blue kamikazes and wait for weapons and power-ups to appear and only with their help deal damage to the boss.
