Worked great for me, first method I was worried when it didn't pop after a minute, tried it again a second time and it worked. Make sure the hoppers have pipes pointing towards the furnace as you were doing this, as my first attempt didn't and was the reason it didn't pop so soon.

People prob down voting cos the second one is more complicated than it needs to be, not by much, but you can do it without all the extra placing/breaking of blocks and making the minecart fall.
Literally just place a chest, a hopper facing it, minecart track directly on top and minecart with chest on that, simple.

The set up for the second did not work for me. I finally got it by digging a hole 2 deep, and putting the chest in the bottom and then the hopper on top. Then had tracks across at surface level. Popped when I pushed the mine cart chest , with the item in it, over the hoper while on the rail.

Worked for me and popped fairly quick, although I used my own world since I had the items to make everything it was quicker. Great tutorial!

Unfortunately the tutorial method no longer works, tried today and it says that achievements cannot be earned using this world.

Not sure what is happening on mine but I've tried this and the other achievement with hoppers and neither worked. I read that the Hopper pipes have to be facing the furnace, but my Hoppers don't have pipes on the side. Any ideas??

Nevermind. Figured it out. You must click the dirt block and not the ground with the hopper. This will point the “pipes” from the hopper to the block. So when you set down your furnace in the same spot then it will work.

I just got the "Smelt Everything" achievement today using this method. However, "Freight Station' doesn't seem to work. UPDATE: achievement popped 10 minutes later...

importing the tutorial world worked for me today, it didn't work first time but i did it again, i renamed the world then copied it and when i imported the copy on the new version of minecraft it allowed unlocks

I had so many issues with the first achievement but then I realized when you place the hoppers you need to have the side of the center block highlighted when you place them so that all the pipes are aligned. Once I realized that the second one popped for me too. As usual it took about a minute to register

I had to put the item in the chest then break block abover hopper and then retrieve intem from the other chest on ground before the chivo popped.

achievement are weird in the new minecraft, sometimes times they take ages to pop other times they are just stupid

Putting something in the minecart chest unlocked the cheevo for me once it funneled through the hopper and into the bottom chest.
