How to unlock the Bad Omen, Good Loot achievement in Minecraft Dungeons - Definitive Guide

The easiest and fastest way to do this is on the cow level (???), if you have it unlocked. If not, just look up how to unlock it, literally takes less then 30 minutes with most of the levels unlocked and it's great for leveling up. You could just use a friend that has it unlocked also.

The Raid Captains are tall human-like enemies with a banner above their head, a "boss bar" will appear at the top when your close to one. They appear on a level after you have completed it at least once. Simply kill it and you get a modifier added to your game, they are random, some of mine were "Threat Increased" and "Mob damage is increased by 50%". Then just finish the level, the cow level should take no more than 5 minutes to finish, so your looking around an hour for the achievement. You get an extra chest at the end for finishing with a modifier.

Difficulty doesn't matter and killing more than one captain to get more modifiers will not double your completion percentage. If playing with more then one person, everybody in the game gets percentage.

I ran this mission 5 times yesterday and never had one spawn. The other solution, that is now deleted for some reason, suggested Soggy Swamp which is a guaranteed spawn every time and a better choice than ???.

Myself and multiple other people have ran this and have had one every time. The captain isn't going to be on the main path, have to look around a bit.

Checked all over the map at least two of those times with no luck. Soggy Swamp has 3-4 in the main path every time and is easier to dodge through the enemies instead of the cows.

Been running people through the map at least 30+ times now. Happy to show you if you want, each run takes less then 3 minutes. If you think Soggy Swamp is better then go ahead and write a guide explaining it.

do you have to be on a certain difficulty?

No to difficulty requirement. I was doing the seasonal challenges and dropped to adventure to double up for the day and got 2 more of these at the same time.

Done several missions on the water DLC and not seen one of these yet. Anyone know how to get them to spawn if there is any requirements?

Only requirement is that you have beaten the level at least once. They won’t be on the main path, you have to look for them. Just look for them on main game levels if they aren’t spawning in DLC levels.

You must replay the level. Raid Captains will only appear after you have completed the level on that difficulty.

Guaranteed Spawn: Pumpkin Pastures

After you finish Pumpkin Pastures for the first time, Raid Captains will always spawn in the level. The easiest way to find one is to head to the pirate ship that is located at about 1/3 of your way through the level. The majority of the time you will be required to walk through the pirate ship to continue the mission, but sometimes it will be off on your right when you are walking along a cliff and you see it down below in the harbor. Just move forward and then around and to your right to get to it in that situation.

On the pirate ship is a door you can enter to get to a secret room with a supply chest. There is always a Raid Captain within this room. Just kill him and take his banner then finish the mission and you will get progress towards the achievement.

If you lose too much health fighting him, just leave the room and wait outside until your potion refills or use a healing artifact, then go back inside to finish him off (his health doesn't regenerate).

There are also multiple Raid Captains throughout this level off in the side paths (I usually find 3-4) but the pirate ship is the best method since it's on the way. Don't bother picking up additional banners as they don't increase your progression (only one per mission counts).

If you want to get this done as fast as possible then just put the difficulty down as much as you want and run through the level. Although it's maybe not as fast as the other solution (should take 10 minutes or so), it's a guaranteed location, so there's peace of mind in that.

Note that the Pumpkin Pastures Daily Mission, when it shows up, does NOT have a Raid Captain.

I only had a Raid Captain spawn in the pirate ship about 50% of the time, but there was almost always one nearby. Definitely the most consistent method out there for sure. +1

Hey thanks for the response and for not leaving a neg. What difficulty did you play on? I'll log in today and try a few things because on Apocalypse I got it 100% of the time. If I figure out the spawn rate I'll update the solution.

Just out of interest, do you need to own the DLC in order to go for this?

It's a title update which means it's free. It should have automatically updated your game to include raid captains

Thanks, that does appear to be the case. Only trouble is I just tried replaying Soggy Swamp on a lower than recommended difficult just for a quick blast and encountered something like half a dozen raid captains throughout the mission and got killed! Is that normal?

On Soggy Swamp I would say yes because if I remember correctly there are a lot of different rooms to explore and raid captains tend to spawn in rooms, dead ends, and secret locations. If you play a mostly open /above ground mission and stay on the main path you shouldn't find many if at all

It's not a totally guaranteed spawn but i did this level ten times on the easiest difficulty to most easily knock this achievement off and there was a raid captain in the ship eight of those times, the other two there was another one easily found elsewhere on the level, so this is a perfect level to do this one on

Thanks for the update. I wish I knew exactly what spawned the captain. It might be difficulty based as I found one 100% of the time on Apocalypse. Either way, glad it helped and you got the achievement!

I played on Adventure just so I could speed through everything and get to the end faster. Could've played on Apocalypse I guess, but I was still getting a raid captain every time in about the same areas of the level regardless. Almost every other level I played on Apocalypse +1 and hardly ever got a raid captain though, so I'm not sure how much difficulty may factor in.

Raid Captains are Illager like enemies that carry large banners. A boss life bar will appear when you are close to one. It will drop the banner when you defeat it and picking up the banner will add a negative modifying effect (ex. Mob damage increased by 50%). Then simply complete a level 10 times after activating a banner. The fastest way to complete this is to play through the secret COW level on a low difficulty as you can easily run through in 5 minutes.

Sometimes on a mission (anyone, but I didn’t notice it during the final mission of the main game) a mini-boss, the Raid Leader, will appear, this happens randomly. We kill him and his flag falls from him. We approach and hold the button to take an item. A difficulty modifier will be applied until the end of the mission. One flag - one modifier. There is no point in typing more flags. Missions with a flag are counted, not the number of flags collected in the mission.
