How to unlock the High Treason achievement in Minecraft Dungeons - Definitive Guide

This achievement is most likely going to be the last one you earn in the game:

Defeating the Arch-Illager on the hardest difficulty in the game, for the apocalypse difficulty you have two sub difficulties for the fight.

V) with a recommended power level of 91
VI) with a recommended power level of 97

I managed to do this with a team of 2 with an :

individual power rating of 99
team power rating of 101

in terms of gear, the best advice I can give is, always equip the highest power gear you have, even if you hate the piece of equipment equip it this increases your power level which increases the loot range found at the bottom of the mission select screen. for example

me being power level 99 apocalypse VI has a loot range for new gear of 100 -107
however if i lower my power rating it drops to 88-95

i would defo recommend that all members of your party are above the 100 power level range. and also fighting the boss on sub difficulty 5 for a lower power recommendation of 91

(hide spot for the boss) - there may be a hiding spot for the boss fight that teammates can use to avoid damage (not completely ) as soon as you hit the final jump pad to be bounced to the boss platform, you'll notice a tiny ledge behind you with a few steps heading back (3-4 steps) if one teammate sits on the very bottom step at the top right wall... there is an increased chance of avoiding damage however sometimes during the second phase fight. the "ender beams" (big creatures that pop out of the floor and shoot the lasers) they may randomly spawn and shoot in your direction. be prepared to move out of the way, heal and return if needed.

Maybe I do not understad you, but every level difficulty has its own loot range, does not depends of your power.

Mode Adventure, dificulty level I, my power 25 = range 35-43

There is no change mate.

I am confused because I CAN play on all dificulties on Adventure mode (except on inferior dificulties at my level), and no depends of my power level. I can be power level 25 and play on a map that is recommended to play with power level 62.

^^ same here, 10 minutes after you haha. My friend kept worrying but the boss was fake.

Best advice is Radiance, Radiance and more Radiance, then every level is cake.

I tried helping a dude but we failed, difficulty increases with the number of players and if somebody is too far from the Gear Power required I can't protect him and fight effectively a more powerful boss. It's possible, the guy just have to stay away, and I have to be more careful but it's quite a long dungeon and I've played quite a lot of the game already.

Anyway if you're going for all the achievements this shouldn't be too long or hard to get to the point where you will be able to destroy him.

LordSmorc pretty much gave you all the tips, I have currently an even more powerful build that you can see at the end of this video if you're interested: https://youtu.be/KhL-2S6_Ncg

MrZombieChicken

the levelling of character is purely for enchantment points for your gear the main level you need to worry about is power level of gear which determines the future level of gear you find in-game and obtain from the vendor.

best way to power your gear up, no matter what gear you have (if you dont like it or damage is worse) equip it the higher you push your gear the loot and merchant will follow

I've been trying to do that to an extent, with the exception of the weapon. I need to find a good way to farm emeralds right now. I think I'm one good weapon away from having a decent set up. Any suggestions about the best way to get emeralds?

the hidden level near creeper woods nets you a good chunk of emeralds per run , creepy something bout 600 - 2000 per run

Did what J4YC00MB3S suggested and stayed in the top right corner for the second phase and beat him easily with arrows. I was gear level 101 on the easier of the two difficulties.

I was able to do the level on Apocalyptic III or IV. Can’t recall which now, but it was recommended power lvl 80. I went in at 76 and only died once to a laser from the boss. I had a lvl 76 lightning rod that took the boss’s health apart in 4-5 hits. It did 5000+ damage per shot.

I was on level 81 and had a gear rating of 93, beat him up solo with Golem 91, Wolf 93 and LLama 92.
Had following gear (roughly translated from German)
Heart thief lv 94 - Pillager III, Critical Hit III
Magnificent Robe Lv 93 - Shot Defense III, Beast Boss III, Protection III
Gemini Bow Lv 94 - Glowing Shot III, Chain Reaction III, Multiple Shot III

Just make sure, you save enough arrows for the endboss and spam the rest with your companions. You should get enough Potions with pillage and should deal enough damage to one-hit most enemies or at least weaken them, so that your golem gives them the rest. It was a breeze with this set up and it worked with the first try.

I just died 3 times (1 time because the ray just hit me WHILE he was already dead, bad luck i guess, but still, very easy)

Gong of weakening and death cap mushroom is definitely key alongside a weapon with radiance. Enchantments for higher damage like sharpening and committed help but radiance is most important.

With the bonus attack speed from the mushroom you're getting constantly healed and you're pretty much invincible. The only thing that can kill you is if you get hit by multiple high damage attacks at the same time. Run up to the boss, activate gong and mushroom and stand there and hit the boss in the face until he dies.

Yeah, each difficulty level gives you a range of equipment level that will drop. My issue is that the drops I get have been consistently on the lower end of that range with the occasional decent piece. Things are progressing a little better now and I've gotten a couple of pieces around 60. Not great, but it's trending in the right direction. I still can't clear the pinnacle on Adventure difficulty, so I am grinding for some better gear. Hopefully when I can play at apocalypse my power level will get a nice boost.

Thank you all for your help.

My friend and I both did this at power level 89 - but we had a very specific build set-up that allowed us to punch well above our weight. The bow that fires very quickly and often picks up 50-120 arrows - I forget its name, can do massive damage to the boss in a very small period of time, and the arrows all lock on. We both used golems as well, which took a few hits for us and managed to land a few (they honestly do not last long, but swiftness boots/ghost robe is almost useless on the second stage of the last boss as you're likely to run into something running away from something)

Best is to do this Solo, playing Co OP makes it harder.
All I did was farm the secret ??? Level in apocalypse mode until you around level 85. Each time you complete this level you level up around 2-3 times.

*I completed this achievement at a 95power rating.*

Best advice here, at the boss fights especially in his second form, yes you can hide behind the pillars, however I found a easier way, when he spawns run into the top corner, the boss will therefore be out of your screen, shoot him with a bow, also use the magic shoom to give you 50% more damage. Somehow he doesnt seem to move as he cant find you. Strange yes? I've tried this multiple times and it works each time.

If you run into a pickle and need to revive you can always roll off the platform and it will spawn you before the launch pads, there you can heal and attempt it again with no health loss.

Hope this helps

I am not sure I understand the significance of the character level in this game. I played the game naturally until I was level 35ish with similarly leveled gear (and power level). I then let my character level boost via turbo controller until I hit level 75. My power level stayed 35 though. In my mind, all I had to to was go to the gear vendor, spend some emeralds and get high level gear that matches my CHARACTER level. That was not the case. All the gear I was given was about the same level as my POWER level (ie. 35-38). Furthermore, being level 75 did not boost any of my stats at all, so my level boosting was pointless.

Now I am having to grind my way through the game to get incrementally better gear as I try to get my power level higher. So am I missing something? This is proving to be highly frustrating since now I am level 80, but my power level is 49. Most gear I am finding is in the 41-43 range even when I struggle through higher difficulty levels. cry

I did it at power level 96, and the hardest part for me was just getting to the fight, especially the beginning area with the jump pads since when you land you are usually surrounded by enemies. I used the golem, ghost cloak and boots of swiftness only died twice. My weapons where a spear which I never used and the Twin Fang bow I think its called with the powerful, attack boost and piercing enchantments. I was using the Hunters Armor with Damage reduction, the enchantment that gives you 90% damage reduction on use , and the chilling one that reduces enemies speed. For the first phase I used the gong of weakness and the love amulet and had the golem out for distraction purposes as I shot him with arrows. For the second phase I switched out the love amulet for the boots of swiftness and went to the upper right corner. I just fired arrows at him with the golem again distracting him, he never came close to me and I only got hit by his beam a couple of times. For some reason this fight seemed easier than on the previous difficulties.

The other lengthier solutions are excellent. I will add one thing.

You can roll off the edge during the arch-illager fight and lose 20% of your health but you will spawn at the entrance to the fight and can recover your cooldowns and potion and HP before re-entering the fight. The boss does not regain HP when you do it.

You basically can come into it fresh over and over, shoot your bow and artifacts, and ditch when your health starts to get low and you've used your potion.

I beat it solo at gear level 90 and in game level 49. I rolled off the edge maybe 2 times to recover on the fight but I had really excellent gear.

The best solution. I had infinity, rapid fire and gravity on my bow. I also had a Hero's Armor that reduces HP potion waiting time by 40%. Rolled off ledge twice, and it was over. Level 60, Power 101. 😂

the hardest part is to get to the boss, there were some nasty enemies along the way, even at power level 90.

i recommend the exploding arrow artifact, and a healing aura artifact. i didnt use my 3rd artifact at all.

i also recommend projectile deflicting armor, it will deflect 60% of the arrows.

other then that, i just hid behind the pillar/rock wall, the boss didnt even hit me, i fired around 50-60 arrows and he was dead.

dont be scared to try this solo, i have only played the game solo, its a very easy game.

I got this achievement with a relatively low power level 70+.

For the first part of the boss stage, I would equip the Love Medallion and convert the archers to my side. Shoot the boss a bit and roll away off the ledge.

The archers will continue shooting and the boss will continue to take some damage while you safely heal at a safe distance at starting point.

I would also have the enchantment Suprise Gift which lets me spawn random potions like Strength and Shadow Brew whenever I use a Health Potion.

For the second part of the boss stage, I would use the Shadow Brew and Strength potion, get into position while he can't see me, fire away and roll away back to the starting point.

Avoided all the excessive grinding and defeated him this way.

The Arch Illager can be tough and annoying but playing in co-op, we found a very good way to defeat him quickly and with little hassle. Both players should have high damage bows, ideally with the firework arrow and the infinity enchantment. Both players should have the Gong Of Weakening artifact. As soon as the battle starts, both players should use Gong of Weakening, then spam him with arrows (using firework, which, coupled with infinity and the Gong deal absolutely insane damage). We beat him before he even spawned his laser attack.

Just wanted to add my setup - also look for the other guides!
I managed to beat the Arch-Illager solo with the following settings/gear

Difficulty: Apocalypse - End of all Days IV
Recommended Strengh Level: 86

(roughly translated from German)
Heart thief lv 94 - Pillager III, Critical Hit III
Magnificent Robe Lv 93 - Shot Defense III, Beast Boss III, Protection III
Gemini Bow Lv 94 - Glowing Shot III, Chain Reaction III, Multiple Shot III

Explanation:
With Pillager III you can get plenty of food and potions which will help you a lot (especially food)
Critical Hit is crucial as the guarded illagers with a shield will take at least two hits, with critical hit you can even one-hit them, when you use a stealth-potion and then attack them.

With Shot Defense you can ricochet some arrows, not only protecting yourself from damage, but the enemies will get hurt, killing them easier.
Beast Boss III will make your companions stronger (+40% more damage) which is a nice bonus.
Protection III will make your defense higher, as you will able to take a bit of damage until you should recover.

Glowing Shot III can heal you and your buddys (but i didn't see any glowing circle for some reason, maybe bugged?)
Chain-Reaction III and Multiple Shot III will improve your bow-skills which will also help.

How to beat him:
When you face the last stage of the arch-illager, just as the other gamers alraedy pointed out, make sure to hide behind the rock at the edge, if the cross-laser is coming for you. Use your companions for distraction and when they are next to him, spam all your arrows until the lasers are back again. Rinse and repeat.
You can of course die 3 times before the game over screen comes - when you die, the health bar will remain the same. Use this to your advantage and do the same steps again. Use an potion asap, when you are near death and then give him the rest.

I died 3 times just on this spot (1x because while i already killed him, one of the lasers got me. But still with this method it was actually a breeze.

Before unlocking Apocalypse difficulty, you will need to complete the game on both Default and Adventurer difficulties. This will require a good amount of replaying levels to grind out gear, level up, and hope for good drops. Default difficulty requires you to complete every level as they unlock until you get good enough gear to take on the Arch-Illager at the Obsidian Pinnacle on Default difficulty.

Adventurer difficulty is then unlocked and all the levels are available immediately, meaning you can bounce around levels as long as you have strong enough gear. Rinse and repeat your gear grinding and leveling up until you are strong enough to take on the Arch-Illager at the Obsidian Pinnacle on Adventurer difficulty.

Now you will unlock Apocalypse difficulty and can continue that rinse and repeat grinding and leveling again. To take on the Arch-Illager on Apocalypse difficulty, you need to be around power level 90+.

The strategy for beating the Arch-Illager remains the same across difficulties; I recommend saving as many arrows as possible for the boss fight and equipping artifacts that heal you (like the Totem of Regeneration). For the most part, you want to keep your distance and just spam him with arrows. Remember to use the various bounce pads to keep distance from him and any mobs he spawns in (you can also use the artifact Love Medallion, which turns enemy mobs friendly for a limited time to help fight the Arch-Illager). The attack patterns don’t change between difficulties; however, he will gain more health, do more damage, and move faster (just like all other enemy mobs). By the time you make it to Apocalypse difficulty, he should be a piece of cake (if you get stuck, consider playing with friends as the extra damage output will end this fight quick).

Two ways to do this, either the typical route or the fast route.

Typical route: Completing the Obsidian Pinnacle on the Default difficulty will unlock the Adventure difficulty, and so on with Adventure unlocking Apocalypse. From here, you will have access to the Apocalypse difficulty modifier for any level at that point, though you might find that they are considerably harder than the previous difficulty. No new mechanics are often added between the difficulties, but instead more mob spawns or more enchanted mobs in general will appear.

Fast route: If you have a friend who has completed the difficulty unlocks and has frequently played in Apocalypse difficulty, they can invite and carry you through the level. You do not have to participate directly in any combat pieces. The only thing you'd have to watch out for is if anyone else, or you, dies during it, as when night comes, the added enemies might get you from your hiding spot.

The fight against the Arch-Illager remains the same. You will have two phases, where the first will be him teleporting about, summoning a few mobs here and there, and hitting you with ranged attacks. Once you've depleted the health bar entirely, the Orb will embody him with the power of the Heart of Ender. In this form, the Arch-Illager's body is still the target to attack, but he will be more chaotic in his attacks. From spewing out dark energy similarly to the Redstone Monstrosity from the Fiery Forge, to diving into the ground and spawning four lasers, to even performing a rotating laser spread that you can't roll out of without Ghost Form; all of these attacks will remain the same, just become stronger in potency.

You need to complete the game three times:
1st time - story mode
2nd time - adventure mode
3rd time - Apocalypse mode

You can’t start right away on the apocalypse, so play for fun and stock up on items.
By the time you reach the Arch-Illager on the Apocalypse, you will also have completed the "Expert Explorer" trophy (for level 50)

The most difficult thing is to get to the boss, you need at least lvl 90 or a party that will kick you out. If you go solo, the easiest way to kill the boss is to collect as many arrows as possible and slowly shoot him down, jump onto the platform, shoot a few arrows and roll down. 20 minutes and the trophy is yours.

Take the boss to the upper corner of the arena, jump into the abyss, jump into the arena and shoot at his approximate location (in the game, opponents attack you as soon as they appear in your field of vision)

It is possible to defeat the boss at a lower power level. I defeated him at level 61 (71 power). Used on weapons - vampirism, on armor - potion barrier, makes you practically invulnerable after using it. The method with the boss as described above where you need to jump from the platform is effective, but long, I sped up the process: I used Dynamo on the bow, in a safe place we do 20 somersaults, we rise, shoot and jump down, so 10 times and the boss will be defeated.

An important point is if a level 110+ weapon appears in the hands of friends or something else - after completing it on a normal one, an adventure opens. We can immediately go on this mission on an adventure. The Apocalypse opens. And we immediately go through the mission again, but this time in the apocalypse. There is no need to go through it again with a powerful weapon in your hands.

I went solo at level 64, equipment 84. Before the boss, I used a hammer with pumped up vampirism when an enemy dies and attracts all enemies, armor for melee damage. On the boss at the second stage, you can stand in the lower right corner, he does not get hit there with rays, and shoot with a bow.

Your friend can’t just give you a top weapon. But he can call you on a high-ranking mission, where you just need to wait until he clears everything. After completing the mission you will receive a top item. After the mission to Apocalypse 7, I got a level 68 golem and it seemed like there was something else of a high level.

The most difficult thing was to break through the castle, I passed it at level 86 equipment. Use an enchantment to control 3 mobs and explode and activate all artifacts with fatal damage + a crossbow with increased damage from a distance. Carefully walk to the boss (especially carefully with golems, you can run through the first one). Hit the first form of the boss with melee attacks, recruit mobs that he spams, when he starts to regenerate into the second form - jump from the platform, appear on the other side of the bridge, jump over and finish off with arrows. The boss is very easy, but the path to it is not easy.

Basic tips:
1) Try not to waste lives on the way to the boss. They will come in handy there.
2) Take the “Love Medallion” artifact with you. He charms three random mobs and lures them to your side. This will be very helpful when armored villains come at you.
3) If possible, then take armor with an enchantment for 4 somersaults, they will help against the boss’s attacks.
4) A powerful bow with maximally charged arrows and the “Energy Accumulation” charm helped me a lot. The boss was taken out with five shots.
