How to unlock the High Treason achievement in Minecraft Dungeons - Definitive Guide
Defeating the Arch-Illager on the hardest difficulty in the game, for the apocalypse difficulty you have two sub difficulties for the fight.
V) with a recommended power level of 91
VI) with a recommended power level of 97
I managed to do this with a team of 2 with an :
individual power rating of 99
team power rating of 101
in terms of gear, the best advice I can give is, always equip the highest power gear you have, even if you hate the piece of equipment equip it this increases your power level which increases the loot range found at the bottom of the mission select screen. for example
me being power level 99 apocalypse VI has a loot range for new gear of 100 -107
however if i lower my power rating it drops to 88-95
i would defo recommend that all members of your party are above the 100 power level range. and also fighting the boss on sub difficulty 5 for a lower power recommendation of 91
(hide spot for the boss) - there may be a hiding spot for the boss fight that teammates can use to avoid damage (not completely ) as soon as you hit the final jump pad to be bounced to the boss platform, you'll notice a tiny ledge behind you with a few steps heading back (3-4 steps) if one teammate sits on the very bottom step at the top right wall... there is an increased chance of avoiding damage however sometimes during the second phase fight. the "ender beams" (big creatures that pop out of the floor and shoot the lasers) they may randomly spawn and shoot in your direction. be prepared to move out of the way, heal and return if needed.
You can roll off the edge during the arch-illager fight and lose 20% of your health but you will spawn at the entrance to the fight and can recover your cooldowns and potion and HP before re-entering the fight. The boss does not regain HP when you do it.
You basically can come into it fresh over and over, shoot your bow and artifacts, and ditch when your health starts to get low and you've used your potion.
I beat it solo at gear level 90 and in game level 49. I rolled off the edge maybe 2 times to recover on the fight but I had really excellent gear.
i recommend the exploding arrow artifact, and a healing aura artifact. i didnt use my 3rd artifact at all.
i also recommend projectile deflicting armor, it will deflect 60% of the arrows.
other then that, i just hid behind the pillar/rock wall, the boss didnt even hit me, i fired around 50-60 arrows and he was dead.
dont be scared to try this solo, i have only played the game solo, its a very easy game.
For the first part of the boss stage, I would equip the Love Medallion and convert the archers to my side. Shoot the boss a bit and roll away off the ledge.
The archers will continue shooting and the boss will continue to take some damage while you safely heal at a safe distance at starting point.
I would also have the enchantment Suprise Gift which lets me spawn random potions like Strength and Shadow Brew whenever I use a Health Potion.
For the second part of the boss stage, I would use the Shadow Brew and Strength potion, get into position while he can't see me, fire away and roll away back to the starting point.
Avoided all the excessive grinding and defeated him this way.
I managed to beat the Arch-Illager solo with the following settings/gear
Difficulty: Apocalypse - End of all Days IV
Recommended Strengh Level: 86
(roughly translated from German)
Heart thief lv 94 - Pillager III, Critical Hit III
Magnificent Robe Lv 93 - Shot Defense III, Beast Boss III, Protection III
Gemini Bow Lv 94 - Glowing Shot III, Chain Reaction III, Multiple Shot III
Explanation:
With Pillager III you can get plenty of food and potions which will help you a lot (especially food)
Critical Hit is crucial as the guarded illagers with a shield will take at least two hits, with critical hit you can even one-hit them, when you use a stealth-potion and then attack them.
With Shot Defense you can ricochet some arrows, not only protecting yourself from damage, but the enemies will get hurt, killing them easier.
Beast Boss III will make your companions stronger (+40% more damage) which is a nice bonus.
Protection III will make your defense higher, as you will able to take a bit of damage until you should recover.
Glowing Shot III can heal you and your buddys (but i didn't see any glowing circle for some reason, maybe bugged?)
Chain-Reaction III and Multiple Shot III will improve your bow-skills which will also help.
How to beat him:
When you face the last stage of the arch-illager, just as the other gamers alraedy pointed out, make sure to hide behind the rock at the edge, if the cross-laser is coming for you. Use your companions for distraction and when they are next to him, spam all your arrows until the lasers are back again. Rinse and repeat.
You can of course die 3 times before the game over screen comes - when you die, the health bar will remain the same. Use this to your advantage and do the same steps again. Use an potion asap, when you are near death and then give him the rest.
I died 3 times just on this spot (1x because while i already killed him, one of the lasers got me. But still with this method it was actually a breeze.
Before unlocking Apocalypse difficulty, you will need to complete the game on both Default and Adventurer difficulties. This will require a good amount of replaying levels to grind out gear, level up, and hope for good drops. Default difficulty requires you to complete every level as they unlock until you get good enough gear to take on the Arch-Illager at the Obsidian Pinnacle on Default difficulty.
Adventurer difficulty is then unlocked and all the levels are available immediately, meaning you can bounce around levels as long as you have strong enough gear. Rinse and repeat your gear grinding and leveling up until you are strong enough to take on the Arch-Illager at the Obsidian Pinnacle on Adventurer difficulty.
Now you will unlock Apocalypse difficulty and can continue that rinse and repeat grinding and leveling again. To take on the Arch-Illager on Apocalypse difficulty, you need to be around power level 90+.
The strategy for beating the Arch-Illager remains the same across difficulties; I recommend saving as many arrows as possible for the boss fight and equipping artifacts that heal you (like the Totem of Regeneration). For the most part, you want to keep your distance and just spam him with arrows. Remember to use the various bounce pads to keep distance from him and any mobs he spawns in (you can also use the artifact Love Medallion, which turns enemy mobs friendly for a limited time to help fight the Arch-Illager). The attack patterns don’t change between difficulties; however, he will gain more health, do more damage, and move faster (just like all other enemy mobs). By the time you make it to Apocalypse difficulty, he should be a piece of cake (if you get stuck, consider playing with friends as the extra damage output will end this fight quick).
Typical route: Completing the Obsidian Pinnacle on the Default difficulty will unlock the Adventure difficulty, and so on with Adventure unlocking Apocalypse. From here, you will have access to the Apocalypse difficulty modifier for any level at that point, though you might find that they are considerably harder than the previous difficulty. No new mechanics are often added between the difficulties, but instead more mob spawns or more enchanted mobs in general will appear.
Fast route: If you have a friend who has completed the difficulty unlocks and has frequently played in Apocalypse difficulty, they can invite and carry you through the level. You do not have to participate directly in any combat pieces. The only thing you'd have to watch out for is if anyone else, or you, dies during it, as when night comes, the added enemies might get you from your hiding spot.
The fight against the Arch-Illager remains the same. You will have two phases, where the first will be him teleporting about, summoning a few mobs here and there, and hitting you with ranged attacks. Once you've depleted the health bar entirely, the Orb will embody him with the power of the Heart of Ender. In this form, the Arch-Illager's body is still the target to attack, but he will be more chaotic in his attacks. From spewing out dark energy similarly to the Redstone Monstrosity from the Fiery Forge, to diving into the ground and spawning four lasers, to even performing a rotating laser spread that you can't roll out of without Ghost Form; all of these attacks will remain the same, just become stronger in potency.
Adventure difficulty is then unlocked and all the levels are available immediately, meaning you can bounce around levels as long as you have strong enough gear. Rinse and repeat your gear grinding and leveling up until you are strong enough to take on the Arch-Illager at the Obsidian Pinnacle on Adventure difficulty.
Now you will unlock Apocalypse difficulty and can continue that rinse and repeat grinding and leveling again. To take on the Arch-Illager on Apocalypse difficulty, you need to be around power level 90+.
