How to unlock the Seafood Skewer achievement in Minecraft Dungeons - Definitive Guide

EDIT 4: A little side-note that I mentioned in the comments that I forgot to mention here is that the tridents still can detonate even when hitting mobs. The only problem is that it acts similarly to the Fuse Shot enchantment and doesn't detonate if the initial piercing kills the mob, which is just kind of annoying. So either aim for a wall like mentioned before, or aim for a beefier mob that'll be able to tank at least one trident hit.
EDIT 3: Although the achievement is perfectly functional and obtainable, the devs changed the behavior of the tridents. When you throw them directly at a mob, it inflicts only the piercing damage without detonation; however, they detonate when they are thrown at a piece of terrain and seem to do less damage than when I first completed this. As recommended in the comments, you should probably farm for a few tridents just in case the initial explosion doesn't kill, and you'll probably have to stand in the blast radius to ensure the mobs stay within the area.
EDIT 2: They fixed this achievement with the latest update, so get skewerin'
EDIT: Note that several players are having issues with unlocking this achievement following the recent Halloween update. Despite meeting the requirements, the progress bar gets stuck at random percentages, so you may have to wait for a patch before this achievement becomes obtainable again.

So how I went about getting this achievement with relative ease was by going to Radiant Ravine and progressing through the level until I reached a room that exclusively contained tropical slimes (this room isn't a guaranteed encounter, so you may have to play repeatedly to get it to spawn). As you go through that room, it'll eventually get to a point where it spawns the slimes infinitely. You can either kill them until one happens to drop a trident, or you can keep one on-hand until you find the room. It's probably worth noting that I don't recall any bubble columns being in that room, so you may want to just keep the conduit from the beginning of the level on-hand and just farm for tridents in the room. Anyways, you'll want to kill all of the big slimes so they split apart and then group together at least 10 small slimes. Throw the trident at them while they're grouped up, and hope for the best. If it doesn't work the first time, you can continue farming for more tridents and just group up some more as they respawn.

tl;dr - Go to the tropical slime room on Radiant Ravine and throw a trident at a group of 10 small slimes.

you don't need bubble columns in that section since the slimes give you oxygen when you kill them

Oh, cool. Then that just further makes that area the perfect spot to do it

Also, the room is in another branch of the map before you do "save the turtles". If you get to the turtles the slime room is before that.

Achievement is buggy. Killed 15+ mobs with one trident explosion and no achievement. The achievement is just stuck on 80%. Same for my wife, her achievement is stuck on 90%. Also noticed nobody has unlocked it after the last update so it might have glitched it. I have opened a case with Mojang: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCD-6680

Same here, I cannot unlock this achievement after the Oct. 2021 update.

That's pretty obnoxious. Hopefully it's something that'll get fixed when they add the seasonal rewards and whatnot.

If anyone is facing this issue, please go here (https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCD-6680) and post a comment, the more exposure, the sooner we can get this fixed from the devs.

As said above this is fixed. Also I didn't know this, but you can carry up to 3 tridents at a time.

Can anybody tell me where this room is?

Interesting. Someone recently messaged me about the trident doing something similar, so I wonder if that's a bug or if the developers changed the behavior of the tridents

It's probably a bug/glitch caused by the last update. At first I thought the Tridents were disappearing on me as I would get surrounded and throw it, but nothing would happen and I didn't notice any enemies die. Thought I was doing something wrong till I saw it only kill 1 enemy when I wasn't trying to cluster enemies on me and then it wasn't till I threw it and missed the enemy and it stuck a one of the coral pillars that I saw it explode and figured that was the only way to get it work.

Thank you @DrSchlepenstein !!! Minecraft has revamped how the trident works. You can either throw it at a mob and it does SINGLE target damage. Or you can throw it at a piece of environment (aka wall, debri, etc) and the trident will stick and explode a few seconds later doing AOE damage.
Also. This might take more than one trident. My first explosion took them all down to 30%. So def stock up with 2-3 tridents on your avatar before attempting.

Yikes, so they really nerfed tridents. I'll update the solution

The tridents seem to be kind of finicky. I played some yesterday and got two tridents; one did just the pierce damage without detonating, and the other one worked like normal. If I had to guess, it's similar to how the Fuse Shot enchantment works now where there is no detonation if the target dies on the initial impact, which is pretty inconvenient

For those without the relevant DLC...

I was able to unlock this in The Tower on one of the water levels. I was playing on Apocalypse, using my own equipment (via exploit). It might be easier on Default with weaker enemies, but I don't know how the trident's power scales with difficulty.

Was having trouble getting this to pop as well as finding the tropical slime room. So I think it's worth mentioning that the tropical slime room seems to be an RNG spawn in the level.

When going though the level after the New Event notification where you have to kill a some enemies to open the door (some island area with a seashell jump pad, that brings you to the door, most of the enemies spawn on the small island). Once done the path always split into 4 directions and the room always appeared in the North direction. This is the area right before the Save the Sea Turtles event. If it wasn't the tropical slime room, it was a room where you didn't have to worry about O2 as it wasn't required and you were inside the volcano with a lot of lava.

Also, throwing the trident directly at an enemy did nothing. It only killed the 1 enemy and there was no explosion. I threw the trident into a coral tree (or a wall) which then caused it to glow and explode. I actually got this by grouping a bunch of the mini zombies (that move fast) together, threw the trident at a coral tree and then ran around the tree. It exploded and killed them all, achievement popped.

Tridents are dropped randomly by any type of mob on any of the new levels. They work similarly to the TNT, as they take up your arrow space and are a thrown item that explodes. The big difference is that they attached to whatever they are thrown at, including mobs. Play any of these levels on a super low difficulty and hope that the RNG spawns a Trident. Then just allow a whole bunch of mobs to group around you and throw the Trident into the group for a ton of easy kills.

Go to the mission Coral Rise on default or adventure. Run through and collect a spear off a drowned zombie. When you get to the drowned necromancer many mobs will spawn. Group up the small zombies and rest of the mob and throw it, boom achievement will pop!

In underwater locations, mobs sometimes drop tridents. We wind up a bunch of enemies and throw them into the crowd. The Trident summons lightning after a couple of seconds and explodes everything in a small radius.
