How to unlock the On A Rail achievement in Minecraft: Edition - Definitive Guide
To get the rails needed for this, follow these instructions;
Go down to floor 16. Bring a map with you to keep track of which floor you're on.
Start mining a tunnel, one wide and two tall. Keep going until you reach a cave.
Search around the cave for resources, but keep a special eye out for Iron.
Rinse and repeat. Remember to always mark where your tunnel is when you find a cave.
You'll need roughly 7 1/2 stacks of rails, which equals to 180 iron ingots. By the time you get all that, you should be close to getting Chestful of Cobble as well.
Now if you're a lazy person, I happen to have a rail set up already. If you want to get this achievement, add and message me on the Xbox.
Next your two minecarts, one for you, and the other for a furnace. This is how you will get you power to move you down the track. This way you dont have to get a whole bunch of gold and redstone.
Then simply build a 500 block track and ride it all the way to the end. You will most likely have to supply more coal to the furnace cart along the way and also the achievement description says you have to only travel in one direction so i recommend building the track in a straight line.
(Note: as you can probably tell this is not a solution for how to build a 500+ meter rail line, this is a solution to save you time!)
What You'll need is 500 silver rails (you won't need any gold rails or power rails at all for this strategy)
A good thing to also have would be some iron shovels and pick axes, and lots of dirt or cobble stone.
If you build up a tower about 40 blocks high (and then make a staircase) you can get a good speed going. You'll want to create a small tower (and then place as many rails as you can in a straight line until it comes to a stop. (as soon as it comes to a stop you'll want to remove one rail and then dig down similar to the stair case and keep planting straight lines. This is a good way to build momentum and saves you a lot of time trying to find gold.
The new update to the 360 version allows you to transfer one save file at a time to the One version meaning you can easily save yourself all the hard work of mining just by transferring that save. When you go onto the 360 version and proceed to choose a save file you can press to upload that save to your Xbox One. Once the upload is complete go to your Xbox One and when you go to choose a save file press which will download the save file you uploaded from you 360. Once the download is complete load up the world jump into the mine cart and boom you have an achievement .
If there are any negative votes please leave a comment as to why you found my solution to be not helpful.
Go over to the beacon in the first area and take it apart. Use the crafting table to turn the iron blocks into iron ingots. Grab some wood from the trees nearby and make sticks. Then all you need to do is make the rails. You don't need any powered rails because when you jump in the minecart you can just hold the left thumbstick forward.
If you are having difficulty in getting it, I'd be happy to invite you to my world.
I'd be more than happy to help you with this achievement.
Is'nt that so easy?

To put simply, you just need to make a Minecart track go for 500 Blocks in a straight line. If you want to boost it, feel free to add me on XBL. You can also transfer a world over from 360 if you earned the achievement on the old console.
This may be old and already known as this game has been out forever now with numerous updates. For anyone trying to get all achievements like me the fastest and easiest way to 100% this is all done on the tutorial map. For the purpose of this achievement in particular simply load the tutorial and make sure to press B on Xbox, O on PS sorry I don't know PC's version but the one that chooses to keep skipping the tutorials for the box glitch. farm a bunch of wood from local trees and make many sticks. Once you have around say 50+ you may need a few more or less and can just come grab more wood if needed. Go to the area that teaches about the golems and make sure to skip the tutorial each time you enter the zone and open the box and collect all the iron blocks only. do this until you have about 45-50 iron block. After this you can now make stacks of track (16 at a time in any of the available workbenches around or craft one if you choose.) Make at least 8 full stacks of 64 track.
The last part is laying the track for the 500M straight run and make sure to stop over to the left and grab a mine cart out of the box up the stairs near the farming tutorial. Once you have your cart and the track head over and up to the area where there is a box in front of the room with a bed just before the glider. You should make or take one or two mining picks to get started and with all the stone from the next step and having some extra wood can make better stone ones once we get to the next part. Pull out your map and make sure to be standing at X:-18, Y:81, Z:-95 and facing left with the box for the bed tutorial to your right and dig down until you are at X:-18, Y:40, Z:-95 Once here dig straight ahead two blocks high and go all the way until you hit the water. Plug the hole once you reach the water and then turn around and head back until you reach the wall where we started and dig here as well straight ahead the same way for a length of about 400 blocks I went. Once this is done lay all 8 stacks of track you have down the long path we just made and then once at the end drop the minecart and ride it all the way back until your achievement pops. Hop this helps and good luck.
I am not sure if the tutorial stays the same or not but to be sure here is the seed for the exact tutorial map, I did this on and only took about 30 mins beginning to end. SEED: 110485071283
The railroad has to be one STRAIGHT line, no corners or turns. You can boost this progress with electric rails, but don't forget to power them, as they will halt your cart when they're not powered.
This is one of the more time consuming achievements in the game; while it can be done solo, I suggest doing it with friends/other players to speed up the process. You (or your group) will need to gather 3 redstone, 34 sticks, 18 gold bars and 186 iron bars. Use your new supplies to make 496 normal rails and 18 powered rails in the Transport section of the Crafting Table.
Now make a very long and straight path to place the rails down, make sure there's nothing blocking the path of the tracks. Your path will need to span 500 blocks. Place 1 powered rail to every 30 normal rails and make sure to place a redstone torch next to each powered rail. Now place a Minecraft on the end of whichever side you want to race down from, get on and enjoy the ride!
