How to unlock the Sniper Duel achievement in Minecraft: Edition - Definitive Guide

You need to shoot and kill a skeleton from 50+ blocks away. I was having trouble with this while doing it on ground level and found it easiest to find a skeleton on the ground and pillar your way up. This makes it easy to know when you're 50 blocks away because you just use a stack of 50 blocks and then shoot down at them.

Edit: Deranged Asylum made a youtube video of my solution if anyone needs a visual aid!

Yea over by the second town in the tutorial world up the mountain with the arch and waterfall/river about a quarter of the way up is a small cave next to a larger cave, this small cave has a skeleton spawner in it. Just hangs out around the field between this and the town and you'll get skeletons, to show up and you can either pillar up, dig down on top of it from above or stand on the mountain side. And at stampies pirate ship all the dispensers on that ship are filled with blocks of 64 arrows so load up. In his house you'll find a chest called tools and weapons, which has a bow and if you want find the enchanting room and use whatever you want to enchant your bow. You can then pillar around that house and wait for skeletons, they like to spawn on top of the glass roof. Overall really great idea tho worked for me thanks!!

This can also be done in the tutorial world. Simply get an enchanted bow and arrows from one of the shops in the castle, get on to the roof of one of the buildings by the wall and shoot any skeletons that you see outside the castle. The skeleton should die in 2 hits.

Dude that's a great idea. Stacking blocks up then aim down. Brilliant! Thanks so much!

I had tried this method and had two skeletons wandering around the base of my stack of 50+ blocks, but the skeletons would just disappear...any suggestions?

So I found a small bug with this in the newest update that you may want to tack on about. If it gets knocked out of draw distance it resets its health so you actually need to be a little careful while sniping the skeleton.

I found it to be a pain to do this achievement even with the tower method because They'd always either shoot me off, or despawn by the time I got to the top of the tower. So what I ended up doing was the exact opposite of a tower method, and dug a hole down to bedrock, put a water source block (Water Bucket) 2 BLOCKS ABOVE THE LEVEL WHERE BEDROCK IS. MAKE SURE IT'S TWO BLOCKS OR THE SKELETON COULD HAVE A CHANCE OF DYING FROM THE FALL. Anyways, after you have the hole made, which should be plenty deep enough to get the achievement, just lure a skeleton near the hole you made, and then with a bit of luck/effort you should be able to just knock him into the hole, he won't die from the fall because of the water, and you should be able to crouch-walk over the opening (to not fall) and look straight down and spam arrows down at him.

NOTE: This also will work in the daytime/with a flame bow because of the water at the bottom of the hole. The tutorial world EASILY allows achievements, and you can get a good 38-40 of them from one load of the tutorial world alone. Hope that helped for anyone else who was having trouble with Foxy's solution.

I found that the skeletons would despawn for me with this method, I even jumped down with one to make sure it survived but after I climbed up my ladder it was gone. You might have to keep you eye on it or something

Still works. Got it today. Had my water too deep so if I took too long the skeleton would drown. I had to try a couple of times to get him before that happened but it worked. Thanks!

Instead of taking time to find feathers to make arrows and stuff to make a bow just go into the tutorial. Once you skip the intro go up the stairs directly in front of where you start. At the very top of the stairs there is a chest which has an enchanted bow and 20 arrows inside of it. Wait until night, get some dirt and look for a skeleton. Build up, shoot down and the achievement is yours!

The tutorial is great for achievement hunting. I got this on top of the lighthouse tower east of the starting area (X: 257, Y: 107, Z: -190). Just wait at the top of the tower until nightfall for the skeletons to come out. If you need to, build up a pillar of rocks/dirt/wood/etc and snipe away. You can get arrows and an enchanted bow in the starting area.

The way I did this was with another player. What we did was make a box high enough so he couldn't get out and you lure him into it. Once he's in it you close off any openings so he can't get out and keep one spot open so you can shoot him but he can't shoot you. Then have one person count 50 blocks away while the other keeps an eye on the skeleton so he doesn't despawn. Once you have the player 50 blocks away save, quit and disable auto save. You can weaken the skeleton to make it one hit with the arrow. Have the player watching the skeleton tell whoever is shooting how to adjust their shot to help them hit him. Once they kill him you can quit and reload it and switch positions.

Hope this helps!

The way I did it was in the tutorial world, get a bow or make it from killing spiders to get string and getting wood. I killed some skeletons to get arrows. Might be some in the tutorial world but can't remember.

Mine loads of cobblestone or dirt but not gravel and find a cave that's half way up some terrain (-80, 70, -110), there's one not far from the tutorial area. Place blocks more than 50 blocks away from the cave, make sure your on the same level as the skeleton. (When one is right outside the cave, might need some luck for that to happen or entice it out)

Aim a little higher than the skeleton, fire away.

You can shoot a normal skeleton or, a wither skeleton in the nether. In my opinion this much easier because he can't shoot back at you. Just trap him in some blocks and run 50 blocks away. It is easier is you have a more powerful bow (enchanted.) Wither skeletons are found in nether fortresses.

This is one of the more difficult achievements in the game. To get this achievement normally, you must be very far away from a skeleton, farther than away than you probably think is necessary. Now start shooting at the skeleton with your bow by aiming above where the skeleton is standing; if you're lucky, the arrows should start hitting the skeleton and you will get your achievement upon its death.
