How to unlock the The Haggler achievement in Minecraft: Edition - Definitive Guide

Solution for the NEWEST tutorial world... (retested on 7/7/17)

This can be done in the tutorial, albeit with some reloading of the level.

Right when you load up the tutorial, skip it by pressing B when available. Take the first right after the stairs and look in the chest under the frames with the firework in them for 64 pages. Then, head back and to the left of the beacon. There are two frames with emeralds in them. Hit them to collect the emerald. (It may or may not count towards your total) Look into the chest and you'll find 30 more pages. Turn off autosave, then save the game. Then, trade the pages with the villager in the right pen for 3 emeralds.

Quit to the main menu, load up your save file, and you should spawn right in front of the villager with 94 pages. Turn off autosave again and repeat the process.

Here's what I did.

1. Go into the tutorial level.
2. Go to the enchantment room.
3. Destroy all the book cases. You should end up with 2 fulls. stacks plus like 34 books.
4. Go to the villager in the town entrance. Grab the 32 pieces of paper from the chest.
5. Disable autosave and make sure the games saves.
6. Approach villager and trade the paper for 1 emerald.
7. Exit the trade window. Wait for villager to level up, he will have green diamonds and red swirling things around him.
8. Open trade with him again, this time he will take 9 -10 books for one emerald.
9. You should be able to get 7 more emeralds from him.
10. Exit trade window and let him level up again.
11. Sell more books for 7 more emeralds.
12. Exit trade window again. Let him level up.
13. Trade until you run out of books.

You should be able to trade for about 18 emeralds. It literally took me about 5 minutes to get this. Once you get these 18, exit without saving and do it one more time. It's alot faster than trading one at a time and exiting.

If you stand in front of the guy with the pages and quit and then load it back up WITHOUT autosave you can just quit and reload without having to redo the whole tutorial section

According to the Achievement app, the emeralds on the item frames do not count.

@Sworft You can just skip the whole tutorial section by pressing b at the beginning.

So do you save after you get the two and reload and the paper is there again? Or do you save before the trade and just do the same trade 15 times. 2 at a time and it keeps track of the 30? Thanks.

Depends if you mine the ore or if when mined you get an actual emerald

Just for anyone interested, despite the achievement app not showing progress each time, this method still unlocked.

you can also just decimate the whole tutorial section and head into town with your spoils.

None of this works for me on the tutorial world. The only thing that works for me is to mine them (and even then fortune doesn't count on the tracker, I mined 3 emeralds from an ore block and only got 3% on the tracker, So far I've mined 21 and it's only tracked 14)

Crispy - a couple other users reported that my method didn't track on the counter. It's also possible that they messed with the tutorial world with the update earlier this week. I can't really test if it still works due to having the achievement already.

I'm sure there's some sugarcane to be found in the TW. I would suggest creating a huge crop of that. A page only takes 3 sugarcane. Might be faster than trying to mine. Good luck!

I just tried the solution from MAJORPOOPY and can confirm that it still works. I checked the counter a few times and it showed the progression correctly. Thanks for your solution!

Worked for me. Had the tracker open and it showed progress after each trade. Taking the emeralds from the frame did nothing though.

Question, I'm making a world to get a handful of achs, can a player just open a chest, pick them up, and put them back and still earn it? I would assume so, but am at work so I can't test it.

No. That doesn't count as "mining or purchasing" If you put in 30 emerald blocks to mine or a villager to trade with and all the trading materials that would work.

This is quite simple, though it may take some time. Remember that emeralds only spawn in extreme hill biomes so don't go mining for them anywhere else. Another way is to trade with villagers. The farmers are probably the easiest ones to get emeralds from because they trade most crops (carrots, potatoes, wheat, melons, and pumpkins.)

Emeralds are a form of currency that you use to trade with villagers. Wild emeralds are incredibly rare to come across, so this achievement will be much easier to obtain by trading with the villagers. To trade with villagers, you must go up to one and hit cn_LT there will then be a menu that shows what the specific villager wants and what he's willing to trade for. Some of the villagers will offer emeralds for goods, others won't. Do this 30 times and the achievement will pop.

Alternatively, you can get emeralds in the Tutorial World, as there is a trading tutorial in it. You can trade the paper in the chest for 2 emeralds. Start a new tutorial and repeat this for a total of 15 times for the achievement.
