How to unlock the Artificial Selection achievement in Minecraft - Definitive Guide

Simply find a horse and donkey, tame them and group them together in fences or walls. Feed them a golden carrot (8 gold nuggets around a carrot) or a golden apple (8 gold nuggets around an apple) and let the magic happen! It took over a minute once the mule was born for the achievement to pop.

Edit: this unlocked on a brand new world for myself and wasn't able to activate love mode on imported worlds. There are messages conflicting so if your imported world doesn't work, try the seed from the cartographer achievement guide as it spawns you next to three villages and on my version, had a donkey and a horse near the first village.

Originally, this achievement was bugged that you could only unlock it on brand new worlds, not imported world. I got this achievement on a world level I created and had a friend joined who also got it so it isn't host only. Not sure if there was something special from trainers world to unlock it

I can't figure out how to feed the golden carrot to the donkey to get it to enter love mode. Horses enter love mode no problem. Any thoughts? 1.2.3 on xbo

Did you tame both the horse and donkey before feeding? And are they both within 8 blocks of each other?

I can’t for the life of me get a tamed horse to enter love mode. Is it confirmed this can’t be on an imported world?

I do not have Windows 10. If you’d be willing to do that, I would greatly appreciate it!

Got on imported world. Tamed a horse and donkey, fed them each a Golden Apple/Carrot (it will not say "Love Mode" at the bottom of the screen; it will say "Feed"), a mule popped out, and the achievement popped once I checked my list.

thepack1221, do you have Windows 10? You can host a world from Minecraft (Windows), join it using your Xbox One using the same Gamertag, as long as both are on the same local network (wired/wireless).

I can confirm that I got this on an imported world! Once you either spawn a donkey and a horse or tame a donkey and a horse simply feed a carrot or Apple to them and love mode will happen

Also got this on an imported world. Easy cheevo, just give both animals apples until they are tamed (you can mount them). Then feed them both 2 apples each and a little horse thing should spawn next to them. Cheevo should pop shortly after.

I tried to help someone else unlock this achievement in my world, but no love mode mode happened. Is this bugged as a host-only achievement?

Note: The host and joining players were on beta version 1.2.3.3 and we were on an old tutorial world synced over from Minecraft: Xbox One Edition. And yes, "Activate Cheats" was and had always been disabled from the first time the world got loaded.

Did you tame the horse and the donkey (without an item in hand) first? They won't enter love mode unless they are tamed.

You should get the Saddle Up achievement once you have a tamed horse.

So for this I got a bit confused whilst following the other guides but this is what worked for me, also tried with another account and worked perfect.

I used a lead (took one from a traveler) to grab a donkey and horse and bring them to my farm and fence them in. Now make sure you tame them!! I wasted 5 golden apples trying to feed them but got it first time after making sure they were both tamed (for me the donkey wouldn't enter love mode until he had been previously tamed).

After taming both the animals then feed the donkey a golden carrot and the horse a golden apple (i'm not sure if either or both work for them but this is what I used.) and they will both be in love mode and next thing you know, you are now 30 Gamerscore richer!

BulletLukey has made an awesome world for this. You can join our realm (as long as it still runs) or download the world yourself.

In this world, simply go to the respective area. Simply spawn a horse and a donkey, then tame them, before giving them both some of the golden carrots to breed them.
