Requirements: 6 wooden planks, 1 wooden stick and a crafting table
What to do: You should already have a crafting table some wooden planks. Create wooden sticks from 2 wooden planks. Then create 3 signs by using the crafting table. You will need 6 wooden planks and 1 stick for a sword.

So I crafted a sign and placed it and it says I have the achievement 50% done.. am I missing something? Do I have to craft all of the different types of wood for the signs?

I, too, cannot get this achievement to pop. I've gone through whole stacks of wood. My headquarters looks like a failed protest rally.
Update: I was using spruce/jungle wood to make the signs. As soon as I made one with Oak wood, the achievement popped.

This achievement isn't popping for me either. I'm stuck on the Minecraft Beta on Xbox One, and have no idea why it will not pop. I made sure that it was Oak wood. It could be that I'm using the Minecraft Beta. I have done everything I could do to go back to the normal version. Guess I'll have to wait for the Xbox Series X and try again.
Hopefully, the achievements for the Series X are the same as the Xbox One version.

People have been unlocking it. Just seems as if it's very rare to actually unlock when the requirements have been met. No idea how these got bugged, as there were no update to my knowledge.

Just got this today. I specifically made sure everything was crafted from Oak and no other kind of wood. Placed three random signs, it popped a few seconds later. Playing on Beta on Xbox Series X.

New patch for the game just went live. Tried it and it worked after placing 3 oak signs.
I also mined brand new oak logs and made new sticks, planks etc. just to be safe
Edit: Renewable Energy also appears to be working now

@SincereSeeker6 my guess is that one part (craft sign or place sign) of the ach is working and the other is broken. My tracker shows 50% complete in-game so one of them counted, but I dont know which. So the people unlocking it may have already completed the part that is now glitched in the past, and are able to pop it by doing the other half.
