How to unlock the Passing the Time achievement in Minecraft - Definitive Guide

You will need to play the game for 100 ingame days, which translate to 33 1/3 hours. (1 ingame day lasts 20 minutes). You do need to have a controller charged while going for this, as the game only progresses (and counts progress) when you are not in the start menu. In case you don't want to play the entire 33 hours, start a game on peaceful (so no mobs can kill you) and be sure that you can not accidentally die of any other reason (drowning, falling, lava, etc.) Then plug in your controller, turn your tv off and let the game idle.

You can track your progress both ingame and in the achievements tab.

Update:
-Mouse and keyboard works as well.
- joining someone else's game doesnt always seem to count.

Update based on comments:
- Turning off controller works
- Sleeping at night works as well and it tracks.

EDIT:
BulletLukey has made an awesome world for this. You can join our realm (as long as it still runs) or download the world yourself.

In this world, it takes roughly 3,5 hours to get the achievement!

Keyboard/mouse support works too if you don't have a controller cable or rechargable batteries. Just plug in the keyboard and mouse and let it run.

It appears that this may not work in other players' worlds, at least part of the time.

There are definite bugs in this game.

I've been able to get progress towards this in my friends world. I also have my controller turned off with a screen saying "Controller lost connection" and it's still working. I have the achievement tracker up and it's going up.

Something else I always do... build a bed. Then when you notice it's night, sleep. Can save up to 10 min/day. And yes, the time tracks.

Does the method still work if you create a save in the tutorial world on Xbox One Edition then just sync old worlds when in the new version? For some reason hosting on PC and connecting via LAN on Xbox One keeps disconnecting for me.

What I did was I put my controller on a charging pad and then plugged in my mouse and keyboard and propped something against the W and the A key so I would spin in a circle and then would move my mouse so I would be looking at the sky. Whenever I noticed it was night I would sleep in a bed.

I don't get it. I idled until 73% on the chievo during a few days. Took a few days break and started idling again today. I've done the exact same thing, but haven't gone up even 1% in the last few hours. Somehow it's not counting today.

Brilliant mines stuck at 28%, (19 hours played) tried on 2 Xbox’s with me hosting and friend hosting and it hasn’t moved yet they have moved 4% while switching about.

It appears idling may not be tracking. Left the game on overnight and throughout the day and no budge on the %. May or may not be counting towards the achievement either.

Had another controller hold down the A button to jump continuously and the achievement is tracking. roll

Mine has been stuck at 5% for forever even though I've played for around 7 hours. I did get it to increase by 1% by joining a different realm but that has stopped tracking again too :(

The world automatically resets back in time. Just have a look at the sunset. Shortly after it is night, the sun appears back on the horizon, about to set again.

Ah, ok. So, should this not be considered Time Consuming? It is the only reason I ask.

Yeah I agree with Sasha on that. The normal way takes 33.33 hours. Im sure most of the people playing this play on a regular world, where days take 20 minutes

Mind sharing how a world like this was created without using 3rd Party Tools, Mods, or Hacks? Not an accusation, just curious.

Hello. I'm trying to use this time passing world for the trophy passing the time on ps4. Does this work if I host the world on android, join on ps4 and idle? Any help would be appreciated as I have the achievement on mobile but no luck on ps4.

To answer Ibanez’s question: command blocks.

Confirming all I did was load up the game and stand in my house. Controller can disconnect. Sleeping can halve this to 17 hours.

I think the key thing is if it is an online game then when you bring up the menu the game keeps running, unlike single player offline.

Okay, so I'm a little confused about how using the realm (https://realms.gg/4_FRkZ3uo_M) method works in about 3.5 hours.

What needs to be done within the world itself? As in...
- Where in the world do you go?
- Is there a button to push that activates a command block (which executes a line of code)?
- If it is a button, what other buttons must be used?
- Is there a need to sleep in a bed?

Can some provide a video (including the achievement tracker progress bar to show current progress)?

It is definitely Time Consuming since the "normal" way of doing it falls into the definition. Creating ways to work around the system are awesome and encouraged, but it doesn't change the flag since most people won't know the tricks.

@Craphex
Have you tried the DropBox link in the Minecraft walkthrough?

@Sneaky G Wizard

No, but it does need to be done on a world that is achievement-enabled (i.e. the world should have never been changed/saved in Creative mode and/or with the "Activate Cheats" option enabled). If the world says that achievements are disabled, then you won't get any progress toward Passing the Time (or any other achievement for that matter).

Difficulty doesn't matter but can be done on Peaceful if needed/wanted. You can also do this (and other achievements) by joining a friend's world/Realm that is also achievement-enabled.

Some achievement-enabled worlds/Realms might have the in-game time sped up and would only take about 4 hours to unlock Passing the Time (1 in-game day = 1 minute, 53 seconds). Otherwise, it will take about 33.33 hours (2,000 minutes) in real-time (1 in-game day = 20 minutes).

Good news!
I have created a world that will allow you to get this achievement in roughly 3 1/2 hours!

Use your preferred method to access this world
https://mega.nz/#!rZNjzQqZ!Curp_55EP-y7Ba1ZkGVTVD2ljUYDT6WU2...

You should spawn in the obsidian building (if not it should be easily found)
Flip the switch and idle.

Using this world and it works great! The "Passing The Time" achievement is tracking no problem.

I noticed there is dried kelp in the obsidian building for the "Castaway" achievement but my Hunger isn't going down. Not sure If I did something wrong or something is off with the world. Figured I mention it either way.

EDIT: The "Castaway" achievement works perfect. I'm just an idiot and forgot I had to actually run around and jump to make my hunger go down.

Definite thumbs up from me!

How do you get that world on Xbox one?
0

By EmG v SprayZz on 08 Jun 2020 11:59
Easiest way is to host the world on a version of the game that you can open the world up on just by opening the file e.g. Win10, iOS or Android and join the LAN game (you can host and join using the same gamertag on different devices) However if you don't have access to other versions there is a way to get it on the xbox I believe by using a USB drive and an file browser app on the store but I am not 100% sure on that.

But you can also join the realm listed in the other solution as this method was integrated in to that world.
