How to unlock the On A Rail achievement in Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition - Definitive Guide
Edit #1 - I helped people for about 1-2 hours straight last night. If I haven't gotten to you yet, I'm going to hop back on every night for a few days. Thanks for being patient :)
Full instructions are given in the video, along with hints and tips.
6 iron ingots + 1 stick = 16 rails so you need ~32 sticks and ~190 iron ingots.
You need some powered rails and detector rails to maintain your speed.
Firstly, plant saplings near you home in order to make sure you don't need to travel far for trees/wood/sticks.
Secondly all ore, (including iron, gold and redstone) are best found at the 12th layer above the very bottom of the map.
In order to find the 12th layer, dig down until you hit bedrock (the unbreakable block) and dig around a bit to make sure you know which is the layer is the highest to have bedrock.
The highest layer you will find bedrock is 5, so go up 7 blocks and start mining from there ONLY horizontally if you can help it, do not go up or down and if you need to go up or down for whatever reason, try to get back to that level.
Good luck resource hunting.
After half a dozen or so people I've done my good deed, I'm sure others are willing to help :)
Add me and ask for invite, and I will invite when I can so you can get this achievement. Be patient, I might not be on all the time, I'm English, so consider time difference.
You can choose which strategy to approach the achievement, whether it is flat with the powered rails or inclined w/ the normal (I did it with the incline) rails.
1. Get a dispenser
2. Make sure you have a friend with you that has a picaxe (w/ out the friend w/ picaxe you cannot do glitch.)You can do this offline with a second controller.
3. Put whatever ONE thing in the center of dispenser (can be anything) and do NOT leave the screen.
4. Have your friend mine the dispenser while you are still on the dispenser screen. You should get an unlimited amount of whatever you put in it.
5. This allows you to get unlimited anything -- from diamonds to saplings -- making it very easy and much less tedious to get this achievement.
NOTE: This achievement has been patched, but you can still use it if you go to the system memory and clear the cache, then play offline with a second controller.
For those of you who wish to accomplish achievements legitly, I recommend placing ten normal rails, then going up or down a block. It's tedious but simple.
Good Luck!
1. Follow DarkDan88's guide on the iron locations. You should get well over 200 iron ores and 500+ stone/dirt.
TIP: Craft 100+ torches to mark the places you've mined in the massive cave system. I also put chests/crafting table/furnace at the entrance of the cave to do store/smelt/craft efficiently. Just use stone tools, but craft 1 iron axe to collect gold/restone if you like.
2. Then follow Jocavs guide on building a "downhill" rail.
TIP: The key to placing the blocks fast without falling off is to use the SNEAK mode (press the RS to activate/deactive). SNEAK mode allows you to walk to the edge of a block without falling. You can place blocks super quick! I started at one edge of the map at sea/ground level and placed 12 stones/dirt and then go up by 1 level. I do this until I'm half-way where I place the cart/button/power-rail and ride it back down.
Good luck.
for every 8 normal track pieces on a flat track, you need a powered track. That means for a straight track traveling 500 blocks (500 M) you need about 380 blocks of gold and 3496 Iron. As others have said, the best way to find these resources are to dig deep, or to use the tutorial level.
I used the "Bambi" seed, which creates epic cliffs and caves. From the spawn point I traveled to the south-middle of the map, and dug till we found this massive cave complex. From there we made a house on top of the underground waterfall and started mining northeast to the spawn point. I used the natural caves to help with the mine cart, which made for a rollercoaster like track ;)
Just keep at it and you'll get there.
I am willing to help anyone who is in need of it.
Messege me SES WAFFLENATOR, and we can knock it out in seconds.
Good Luck.
And no spams please.
If you want do do this by yourself, please, watch this video below showing you the fastest way to get this and the best possible solution to do this.**

I'm very simple-minded, though, and I kept banging my head against a wall when it came to completing this cheevo: i.e., "how do you GET the mine cart ROLLING? in the first place???"
Finally, I figured it out on YouTube, but it took a lot more looking and searching than it should have.
If you're simple-minded like me, write this down. This is what you'll need:
2 fences
2 blocks of wood (any kind)
1 button (need wooden slats to make)
2 powered rails (gold and redstone dust to make)
Make the first two sections of your track powered rails. Put one of the blocks of wood behind the beginning of the track as a stopper. Facing that block of wood while standing on the track, put a fence post to your left, then another fence post a meter back and to the left. Finally, put the other block of wood on top of the second fence post (the one farthest away from the stopper), then put the button in that block facing the track.
Put your mine cart on the first powered rail, sit, hit the button and you're off! I also built my rail starting off on a hill about 80 meters high or so (whatever the sky cap is), and it only took about four more powered rails with redstone torches near the end to keep the cart going for a flat rail.
Here's the video where I got this if you want to watch it instead. Cheers!
YouTube it at "Minecraft: How to make a simple minecart start off station (Improved version)"
You will need:
• 496 Iron Rails
• 18 Powered Rails
• 1 Mine Cart
• 1 Lever
• 18 Redstone Torches
Load up the tutorial world and head into the little village under the Minecraft sign. Grab a Pick Axe and Hatchet from the Chest in the Enchanting hut then mine 25 Iron blocks from the Beacon (Next to the Blacksmiths) and 20 Wood Blocks from any of the huts. Then Head underground to the Redstone Tutorial area and grab from the chest in the centre 1 Level, 1 stack (64) Redstone Powder and 18 Redstone Torches. Go back outside and look for the building with the Mine Carts on it and grab a Mine Cart from the chest inside. Quickly make an iron pick axe before proceeding.
Go to the South West corner of the map and you should find a large building with a ship docked outside. Go up the ladders to the first floor and enter the double doors. Take the first left into the Library and use the level beside the fire place to put out the fire. Head through the fire place to the secret room and mine 2 Gold Blocks.
Use all the materials to make the items I listed in the beginning and you should be good to start building your track.
Look at your map and place a Powered Rail (take note of the numbers on the Z or X axis). Next to the Powered Rail put the Lever (this will be your starting point). Now walk and place track in on direction until the number on the Z axis is 500 blocks away from the starting number (1 Block = 1 meter). Use the map to place Powered Rails, with a redstone torch next to them, ever 30 blocks.
Head back to the starting point (make sure your Powered Rails are turned off) and place you Mine Cart on the Powered Rails. Jump in the Mine Cart and flip the Lever. Soon as you reach the end of the track the achievement will pop
Load up the tutorial world and grab a pickaxe (not optional). Once you've got the pickaxe there should be a place for minecarts, head there and using your pickaxe gather all the rails, and once you've got 500 in total you will need also to get 500 blocks in total. (Fastest way.) Using an axe gather as many trees as you can get, then go to where you started at the tutorial world, and place down all the rails until you've run out of em. Then go all the way back, use your minecart and the achievement should unlock. (If it didn't, then gather a bit more rails and then it should work!)
This is one of the most time-consuming achievements in the game. It requires about an hour of mining. If you have friends with this game, this achievement would be worth doing together, because once the track is made, anyone can ride it for the achievement.
So in total, you will need 3 redstone, 34 sticks, 18 gold bars and 186 iron bars. Use these to make a total of 18 powered rails and 496 normal rails via the "Minecart" tab in your inventory. Minecarts can also be made in this tab with 5 iron bars.
Once you have all this, simply build the track in one straight direction with 1 powered rail to every 31 normal rails. Keep in mind you will also have to alter the terrain by moving trees, flattening hills, etc. Continue this until your track is 500 blocks long (because one block is equal to one meter).
Note: You will have to place a redstone torch next to each of your powered rails to power it. These are made from one redstone dust and one stick in the redstone tab of the inventory.
Note: An easy lanuching method: So your minecart doesn't run off before you jump in it, place a powered rail at the end of your track. When unpowered, these rails act as stopping pads. Place your minecart down, then power the powered rail. Also don't forget to block the end of your track off with a block, so your minecarts don't go flying off at the end!
