How to unlock the Sniper Duel achievement in Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition - Definitive Guide

Super simple to get this one solo or with a friend. If you don't want to read the essay below here is a video
Load up the tutorial world, save exit and reload on easy. Then head to the South West corner of the map. Enter the building next to the pirate ship and get the Bow from the room with all the chests in it on the second floor. Grab a Bed from one of the other rooms while you're there. Then head back down to the pirate ship and grab a stack of Arrows from one of the cannons.

Head North from the ship and you should find a Desert Village. Put a bed down in one of the houses and set your spawn here (just incase you die trapping the skeleton). After this take apart one of the Sandstone houses and head to the flat desert section just west of the village. Make a tunnel that has a 1x2 block passage (so you can run through it).

Wait for night then punch a Skeleton and get him to follow you into the tunnel. Trap him inside and force him into a small section. Stand on top of the Block the Skeleton is trapped under and look at your map. Take note of the X axis number and walk 50 blocks in any direction (best do a couple extra just incase).

At this point SAVE YOUR GAME. Turn around and take aim above the trap in order to hit the Skeleton from the distance. 3 hits laster and you should have one dead Skellyboo and a lovely 30G. If not reload and take a few sets back and try again.

Good solution. +1

Unfortunately there is some slight discrepancy between the 360 version and the xbox One version. In the One version, vertical distance works, so you can wait until night, pillar up 50 blocks high and then fire down on the skeletons for a very easy achievement. All credit for that goes to Foxy Gray who wrote the solution in the one version.

But I've tried that on the 360 version and it doesn't register so it must only register lateral distances. Which is quite sad because it requires much more work.

Pfff, I've killed half a dozen skeletons with a bow from more than 55 blocks distance, both vertical and lateral. Still no achievement... Is this achievement bugged?

Your video fast tracks to the pirate ship and you don't show how you got the row boat your in to get over to the pirate ship (which I cant find for what ever reason). Am I missing something here? I've been wondering around this map looking for the pirate ship for the last hour.

I've even gone to the other 3 corners of the map and no ship anywhere. Have they changed something with an update? as I just cant find this ship you say is in the South West corner for the life of me.

This solution is outdated, and needs to be updated or deleted. The tutorial worlds have been updated and completely changed, which makes this Solution obsolete...

According to the newest guide (look down), it says:
The Update Aquatic tutorial world has a Nether portal at 329,17,348. Once in the Nether, you can find a fortress at 114,36,92.

I'll check it out later.

You can get this achievement by taking a bow and arrows and finding a skeleton at night.

It helps greatly if you have a beefed up bow with the power enchantment so it does more damage if your trying to kill a skeleton who is wandering around at night. Grab like two stacks of arrows as well unless you have the infinity enchantment. With it you will only need one arrow instead.

When you go to kill the skeleton you want to have him just barely out of your vision which should be around 55 blocks. So he won't even be on your screen anymore so you will be shooting blindly. When you fire just aim up a little, pull back all the way, fire the arrow, and kill him from long range. It should pop as soon as he dies.

If you have a friend to help you be a spotter this is much easier as you can have the skeleton out of your range but your buddy can see the skeleton he can then help you aim while you fire.

This achievement seems to have to be done on ground level so it might be wise to find a nice open area with nothing around and making a house somewhere near and saving during the night time to reload the world.

If you need to trap make a monster grinder for during the day time to shoot him from some distance away. Or try to box a skeleton in which is a pain to do sometimes.

I'm unsure if the flame enchantment will void the achievement if he dies by fire. I haven't gotten to test that yet.

Also it seems if you make a dummy account and start a world and then while in the world, sign into Xbox live with your main, split screen that world with your main account this achievement and maybe a few others will unlock such as and or nothing at all

Thanks for the tip jumping into my dummy accounts world with my main unlocked it for me. It was my last achievement so I'm not sure if it would have unlocked more.

Using the 2nd account trick my lad got Sniper Duel plus Iron Belly, Return to Sender, Into Fire and Enchanter.

Would only work for me if you sign in after you press START to join the world, you cannot be signed into the console beforehand.

I'm unsure how it works but I know when I had my second account log into my world I got sniper duelist.

I had a few friends do it as well before I posted this guide so I figured it was worth the mention.

I did the dummy account trick and got 4 achievements I needed.
sniper duel - kill a skeleton from 50 metres
return to sender - destroy a ghast with its fireball
into fire - relieve a blaze of its rod
the end? - enter an end portal

when I did it with a dummy offline account I got:
sniper duel
return to sender
local brewery

Like I said it seems to have to be done on a ground level. There were two other guides already saying to make a tower and pit and now they are gone.

I just used the dummy account way and it unlocked Sniper Duel, Return to Sender and Into the Fire. I figured it might help if we log what happened if we did it that way. I was happy with my three so thanks!

How do you get a power bow?

By C3LLDW3LLER on 04 Jul 2017 19:25
You can kill skeletons and hope to get lucky and then repair it as it will most likely be damaged. Also you could get some levels and then save before an enchantment table and try your luck for a good bow. Lastly if you find the enchantment books you can smith that book into the bow.

Firstly, one block it's equal to 1 meter, so you'll need 50 blocks between you and the skeleton, at least. On Easy, it take up to 3-4 hits to kill an unarmored archer, so bring as many arrows as you can (and save before you start).

Make sure you measure the 50 squares before, so you don't need to do so when Creepers, Zombies, and other enemies are out.

External image

When I earned the achievement, I setup a pen to keep the skeleton from chasing me, as they usually do.

External image

A small pen is fine, 2x2, 2x3, 2x2, and the last side should be open. Use fence posts like I did to trap the skeleton in, leaving it open lets you trap him easier.

When nightfalls, lure a skeleton to the pen and smack him in, quickly finish the fence, and he'll be trapped with no escape. >:)

You'll need to aim a good distance above the skeleton, 3 or 4 crosshairs worth. Keep trying until you kill him, and if you were 50 squares away, you'll get the achievement.

Feel free to send me a message if you want an invite to use my "shooting range", shouldn't take you long to nab it.

*EDIT*
As stated by Captfarrell, this no longer works ad the tutorial world is no longer that one.

But just incase you have the old one (I don't know the update number, sorry) :

Everyone else's solutions are just fine, but they rely on luck... Who likes luck when hunting?

Load up the tutorial world, head to X: -19, Y: 78, Z: 90. You got yourself a Skeleton Spawner.
What you want to do is mine out arround the spawner, and make a water current that forces the skeletons into a 1x1 space, now all you have to do is count 50 blocks and aim at that space. The ideal is having them so that their feet aren't covered but their body/head is, this means they can't run, but they can't shoot you either!

If you need arrows and a bow, go to the Mansion on the South-West (bottom right) part of the map, you can get stacks of arrows from the ship, and a bow from the storage room! If you stop at the initial spawn area, you can grab some enchantment bottles and enchant the bow just to make life that little bit easier!

Hope this helps,
~TheDon.

The way I did it was in the tutorial world, get a bow or make it from killing spiders to get string and get some wood. I killed some skeletons to get arrows. Might be some in the tutorial world but can't remember.

Mine loads of cobblestone or dirt but not gravel and find a cave that's half way up some terrain (-80, 70, -110), there's one not far from the tutorial area. Place blocks more than 50 blocks away from the cave, make sure your on the same level as the skeleton. (When one is right outside the cave, might need some luck for that to happen or entice it out)

Save.

Aim a little higher than the skeleton, fire away.

This also works if you kill a Wither skeleton from range. A Wither skeleton should die after two charged arrows. I find Wither skeletons easier to work with than regular skeletons, because they use swords rather than bows so they're less likely to kill you while you're setting things up.

The Update Aquatic tutorial world has a Nether portal at 329,17,348. Once in the Nether, you can find a fortress at 114,36,92.

50 meters = 50 blocks. You'll have to aim pretty high to get a hit at that distance, so the ceilings inside the fortress will get in your way. But there's a long, outdoor corridor right around those Nether coordinates. My strategy was to block off one end of the bridge with a fence, and lure a Wither skeleton there. Then I went to the other end of the bridge and shot him from there.

While you're in the Nether, it's a good time to work on Solution for The Beginning. In Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition

The other guides are years out of date and in many cases inaccurate, so I thought I would make a new one to clarify a lot of this advice.

Firstly a few key points:
  1. The 50 blocks distance must be horizontal, not vertical (you can’t go up into the air)
  2. You need to be 50m on flat ground away, not up a hill or similar
  3. You will not be able to see the skeleton while shooting at it as it’s outside your view distance
Before you start, you will need to be playing on any difficulty easy or higher (not peaceful), you’ll need a bow and as many arrows as possible. I recommend being solo (not coop) as it makes some of the saving and quitting easier. (I recommend saving at several parts of the process, then you can quit without saving and reload if necessary!)

Firstly, you need to create a pit to trap the skeleton. Dig a hole 2 blocks deep and maybe 2x3 longxwide. You’ll need to use a block to get out of this hole, then destroy it after you’re out. Now save and continue.

Now we will find and trap a skeleton. Wait for nighttime, and look for a skeleton. Get it to follow you to the hole and hopefully get it to fall in. This can be tricky. You may need to get in yourself, then quickly place a block, get out and destroy it with the skeleton still in. Once the skeleton is trapped, save and continue.

Now, once saved, hit the skeleton and see how many hits it takes to kill. Quit without saving and reload, then hit it one less than this number of times (e.g. if it dies in 5 hits, now hit it 4 times).

You want to trap it in a specific part of the hole using other blocks so it can’t move about. You will also want to create a ceiling to the hole so that the skeleton isn’t killed by sunlight, do this with a block’s gap so the skeleton can still be hit by arrows from the side. At this point again, save and continue.

Now, you need to move 50 blocks away horizontally in your choice of direction. The easiest way is if you are on flat ground, look down and count the blocks as you walk. But try not to accidentally go to the side! Don’t worry if there are obstacles in the way, I actually dug my 50 block distance into a mountain, which was helpful as it made sure I had not gone off course to the side.

Once you are 50 blocks away, save and continue again.

Aim and fire towards the skeleton (for me this used cn_LT) and hope to hit. The skeleton will not be visible to you at this point as it’s outside your range of vision. You should now kill in one shot and get the achievement! If not, fire all your arrows, then reload by quitting without saving and reloading, and have another try. If it’s not unlocking, recount your distance to make sure you’re more than 50 blocks away.

This is one of the more difficult achievements in the game. To get this achievement normally, you must be very far away from a skeleton, farther than away than you probably think is necessary. Now start shooting at the skeleton with your bow by aiming above where the skeleton is standing; if you're lucky, the arrows should start hitting the skeleton and you will get your achievement upon its death.
