How to unlock the The Beginning. achievement in Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition - Definitive Guide

I haven't had a chance to test this yet, but the other video solutions seem to showing sub-optimal methods for killing the Wither. This video also goes into the various ways the Wither can be spawned and how to abuse this to make killing the wither very easy.

It's worth noting that the Xbox 360 and Xbox One updates bring the Wither spawn up to 1.8+ of Minecraft, so some Wither videos are out of date and use unreliable methods since the update.

From https://www.trueachievements.com/Splebs.htm, thanks!
Found an 3x3 with the rear right block missing but it still worked a treat for me in the tutorial nether.

co-ords: X: 30. Z: -7 is the middle with body build on Z: -6 and the heads on Z: -5.
EDIT: Please note that this is referring to the ROOF of the Nether - in case you didn't know, the top layer of the Nether is bedrock, just like the bottom layer in the regular world. Thus, you need to get up high in the Nether at the co-ordinates suggested above, and use the bedrock in the roof to trap the Wither.

I'll have to give this a shot, I may have to use the end instead of the nether, because the ceiling is pretty high up and very open meaning a lot of ghast spawn.

I've updated the solution with some info I was given on the Xbox One version, it points out a location in the tutorial nether that you should be able to use - let me know if it works (or doesn't!) on Xbox 360, I'm unsure if the nether spawns the same way.

I can take a look I do know that the 360 worlds are smaller than the Xbox one worlds, so the location may not be the same

Assuming there are no duplication glitches on the Xbox 360 version, I have a list of (Tutorial world) diamond ore locations for crafting armor/swords:

X, Y, Z
89 14 -266
83 13 -210
39 13 -162
31 12 -157
11 13 -117

With this video, diamonds won't be necessary. You can build in the neither on peaceful to find a suitable bedrock location or if you have already killed the ender dragon use the portal in the end to kill him. It goes quick and a friend and I killed him using only a stone sword each.
But thank you for the diamond locations will be put to good use anyways

Could you please give coordinates for a good spawn location? I've looked for a while now but couldn't find a good spot.

Note the quote in the solution from Splebs, it details a good location in the nether for spawning the Wither, however this was from the Xbox One version and hasn't been tested on 360 yet. Could you check that location in the Tutorial World Nether and tell me if it's any good?

You should be in the nether digging up. The bedrock is the ceiling in the nether

Hey I just wanted to comment that if you put obsidian blocks above the wither before you spawn him you can lock him in place. Made fighting him much easier.

I believe the wither is capable of destroying obsidian blocks in some circumstances, which is why they suggest using bedrock.

I've also read he can destroy obsidian. How many blocks are you using and how high?

I wouldn't normally upvote a solution posted by someone who hadn't yet unlocked the achievement but, that video is a solid find. The hardest part is finding a good spot in the nether to pull it off. My friend and I did it with a block of 7. Two of the corners were missing on opposite corners of the square. Worked like a charm.

We had tried to do it legit but that guy is a major pain. His health regen is too fast and it's too hard to get in close to him with his constant barrage of explosive projectiles. Not to mention the whole immunity to arrows thing that happens when he gets down to half health.

Bottom line, the video is long but the solution is perfect.

In the nether, bedrock is along the entire roof - it's assumed that the y is, essentially, 127 or 255 or thereabouts. I'll update the guide a little to make that more clear.

For people who the the end opened up you can use the underside of the return portal in the end as well it is also made of bed rock. This info is also in the video guide towards the end of the video. Be sure to build him so he spawns in the middle of the formation

My coordinates were X 13, y123, Z-111. Couldn't find the video solution spot so I started digging up and found a great spot with ceiling bricks. When he spawned, he got stuck in the ceiling and I killed with 2 1/2 gold swords. I also had all gold armor and 2 golden apples but didn't need to use the one apple I ate once he was charged. In further detail, I cleared out the area and the ceiling blocks formed a mini blockage in the middle of the room. Last achievement I needed.

Couldn't find a 3 x 3 bedrock. Tried it at the top regardless. Got a few good hits in but then escaped.
On the upside, I had one epic fight across the Nether that ended with the Wither and I both swimming in lava. I won! (Thanks the Notch Apples)
So, while it didn't work perfectly for me, I had one hell of the ride! :P

I just killed the wither after multiple failed tries and figured I would share what got me to finally kill it. On the tutorial level there is a diamond sword hidden behind the bookshelf in the enchanting room in the village. The enchanting room is across from the beacon. You can also get a set of iron armor upstairs in the house next to the beacon. Use the Bottle o' Enchanting in the enchanting room and blacksmith area to get about 25 exp and use that to enchant your stuff. Then get some food from the farm or animals. I did not have to use it in the fight I killed the wither but having milk is recommended since it stops the wither's effects on you. There is milk in the chest in the house to the left of the enchanting room.

I was using the method posted in the video by KriSpy CharMZ on the One guide but kept getting killed. I found that the key that is to get a notch apple and eat it right after spawning the wither. With that I was close to invincible the first 3/4 of the fight since it gives increased protection and health regen. By the time the wither could really damage me I had finished it off. I did not use the bow like it the video, because I did not want to bother spending more time to get a bow and arrows but if you have one this should be a total piece of cake.

Here is where you can see how to get the notch apple.

Notch Apple worked like a charm, only took 3 hearts of damage near the end of the fight. Also if you're playing on Easy difficulty, the Wither's attacks don't inflict their damaging effect on you, so you don't need milk if you're on Easy.

To spawn the wither, it would require:
- 4 soul sand blocks
- 3 Wither skeleton skulls

Nether portal coordinates:
X: -266 Y: 71 Z: -367

Here are the locations of two of the skulls in the tutorial:
X: 308 Y: 73 Z: 194
X: -319 Y: 123 Z: -144 (this one might be invisible which happened to me so if it is, you should see an outlined block).
For the third skull, you would need to kill a skeleton in the nether and hope that it drops one, it might take 3-5 hours though.

Some good equipment to have with you is:
- Diamond armour [(enchanted)24 diamonds]
- Diamond sword [(enchanted)2 diamonds]
- Notch Apple

Here is a list of diamond coordinates:
X: -81 Y: 15 Z: -116 (group of 11)
X: -72 Y: 16 Z: -138 (group of 9)
X: -47 Y: 12 Z: -119 (group of 8)

I would recommend building an underground tunnel with a little room to spawn him and after it explodes, run into the room and start swinging.
I also recommend eating a notch apple which would help to reduce damage taken.

There is a guide in the notch apple achievement and eating the apple would also obtain you the achievement.

Unfortunately the new tutorial world breaks all of these coordinates. The coordinates are for the tutorial world that was available in TU34. So if you have an old save of that tutorial world, you can still use the coordinates in this solution. Otherwise, it's just information about how to summon and kill The Wither.

I had a lot of problems getting this achievement. I played Minecraft for a while 3-4 years ago, but I only come back for achievements now. Every time I come back, I realize I've forgotten a lot about the game. This is an overly detailed account of how quickest to get the achievement, especially if you don't remember how to play the game. I had to do a lot of research to find a lot of data and I'm trying to compile it all here.

Equipment
First, you'll need equipment. This is my recommended equipment list:
Diamond Sword (Sharpness III and Looting III enchantments)
Iron Pickaxe
Diamond Pickaxe
Diamond Helmet
Diamond Chestplate
Diamond Leggings
Diamond Boots
Notch Apple
4 x Milk Buckets
Flint and Steel

To spawn the Wither
3 x Nether Skulls
4 x Soul Sand Blocks.

Hopefully you have a save with a Notch Apple from doing the Overpowered achievement. If not, you can find details on how to get one there.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 EditionOverpoweredThe Overpowered achievement in Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition worth 132 pointsEat a Notch Apple.

Future steps will assume you know how to use the duplication bug when mentioned. The videos below explain how to do this.

The map in your inventory is your friend, it'll help you find all the locations in this guide. Also, I'd recommend carrying a crafting table with you at all times. Also, any time you see Gravel, dig it until you get one Flint. You'll need it to reignite the Nether Portal after you move it.

Iron Pickaxe, Crafting Table, Milk
We need to craft an Iron Pickaxe. Farm some wood from the trees in the starting area and then grab some Iron Ingots from the chest at the base of the Beacon (X: 36, Y: 68, Z: -30 and has a big light shooting up into the sky). Either make a crafting table or find one in the house with all the pictures of bottles on the wall (first floor, X: 14, Y: 68, Z: -21 across the street from the Beacon). Remember to keep the Crafting Table with you after you are done crafting.

This same building has a chest behind the bar with 4 x Milk Buckets. Take those to combat the Wither's debuff (though if you have a Notch Apple you probably won't need them). Now that you have a crafting table, make an Iron Pickaxe.

Diamond Sword
The Diamond Sword is located in a hidden chest in the Enchanting Room (X: 30, Y: 69, Z: -34 across the street from the Beacon). The visible chest to the left has stone tools in it, feel free to grab any you want. You have to destroy all the bookcases to find the chest, it is near the top of the room in the back, left corner while facing into the room. While here, grab the stack of Bottles o' Enchanting, throw them on the ground, and collect your green orbs.

Enchanting Sword
Let's go enchant the Diamond Sword now. You can use the Emerald Blocks at the Beacon (and the duplication glitch) to make Emeralds. Once you have enough Emeralds you can trade them to townspeople for enchantments. You'll want to get Looting III and Sharpness III for your Diamond Sword and that is found in the close by village near X: 68, Y: 68, Z: -149. They are both sold by separate men in White Coats (Librarians). Once you have both of the Enchanted Books, head back to the tutorial village's Blacksmith area (X: 25, Y: 71, Z: 59, the Anvil is here). Grab more Bottles o' Enchanting out of the chest, throw them on the ground, and then use the anvil to put both Looting III and Sharpness III on your Diamond Sword.

Flint and Steel
If you have found a piece of flint by now, go ahead and craft the Flint and Steel out of the Flint and an Iron Ingot. If you haven't found Flint yet, there's a lot of gravel in the ground around the Tutorial Village (X: 40, Y: 67, Z: 18 under the bridge). Once you have crafted the Flint and Steel TAKE IT WITH YOU, but you can leave any left over gravel, flint, and Iron Ingots behind.

Diamond Blocks
Now that we have a Diamond Sword and Iron Pickaxe we can go get the Diamond Blocks that are hidden by the Mansion and the 2 x Nether Skulls that are in the Tutorial. To make it easy, make sure to save and then exit your game, then you can set it to Peaceful so you don't have to fight anything. Also, you can optionally pick up a boat (or more) at the dock to make any travel by water easier (X: 88, Y: 66, Z: 39). Also, don't forget your Crafting Table.

Let's get the Diamond Blocks first. The Diamond Blocks are near the Mansion at coordinates X: -4, Y: 71, Z: 331 (center bottom of main land mass). This will put you near the front gate. The diamond blocks are actually under the front wall. So go near the wall and dig down 1-2 blocks and you'll see the Diamond Blocks. The Diamond Blocks have to be mined with an Iron Pickaxe or better or they'll break.

Now that you have Diamond Blocks you can transfer them into Diamonds or duplicate them with the duplication bug. Put down your Crafting Table, make a Diamond Pick and all your Diamond Armor. Put the armor on and pick up your Crafting Table.

Nether Skulls #1 & #2
The first Nether Skull is in a tower near another village. The tower is at X: 308, Y: 73, Z: 194 (lower right corner of main land mass)
and the Nether Skull will be by itself on a wooden block.

The second Nether Skull is in a Castle at X: -319, Y: 123, Z: -144 (upper left of main land mass). I would recommend approaching the Castle from the East near coordinates X: -213, Y: 95, Z: -178. It'll be in a big display room with a fire place and other heads.

Moving the Nether Portal
Now that we have the Diamond Pickaxe we can mine Obsidian to move the Nether Portal. The Nether Portal is located at X:- 262, Y: 71, Z: -369 (island, top left, above main land mass). Hop into the portal and mine some Soul Sand Blocks (the blocks with screaming faces on them that slow you down when you walk across them).

Unfortunately we still need one more Nether Skull and the only place to do this is the Fortress in the Nether. Also, this portal takes you no where near the Fortress. So we're going to have to move the Nether Portal.

Leave the Nether and mine all the Obsidian with the Diamond Pickaxe. If we build a new Nether Portal at the coordinates X: 100, Y: 65, Z: 341 then the portal will open directly into the Fortress. So build the portal at these coordinates, make the Obsidian 4 across the top and bottom and 5 up and down the sides (you don't need to put obsidian in the corners). Then light one of the Obsidian blocks with the Flint and Steel.

Getting Nether Skull #3
To get the 3rd Nether Skull you are going to have to kill Nether Skeletons. Nether Skeletons will only spawn in darkness so don't place too many torches in the Fortress. Also, the skulls have a very low drop rate, that's why we put Looting III on our sword.

Make sure your game is set to Easy or higher and go into the fortress. Find Nether Skeletons (the black ones with swords) and kill them until you get your third skull. The white Skeletons are just normal Skeletons and will not drop Nether Skulls. Some tricks I used were as follows:
- If you are low on life and don't have a way to regenerate it you can save the game, load the game on Peaceful, regenerate life, save the game, and reload on Easy.
- If you find a pack of Nether Skeletons save! Then you can keep reloading and killing the same group over and over.
- Place your two previous Nether Skulls on your hot bar so you can instantly see if you pick up a third in the dark.

Preparing to Summon
Once you have your third skull you are finally ready to summon the Wither. You can do this anywhere. However if you do it in an open area, it will fly out of reach. There are also some tips about how to summon it in the Nether in bedrock so it'll get "stuck" and you can easily kill it. I didn't find that necessary but you can definitely do that.

What I found easiest was to dig down for a bit, I made a narrow hallway going down probably 40-50 blocks. Then I made a 5x5x5 block room at the end of the tunnel. If you summon it in there, it'll be confined and close enough for your to hit it with your sword.

You can build this room anywhere: outside the Nether Portal, near the village, etc.

Also, if you want, you can go back to the village and put extra Thorns II enchants on your armor. You can buy them from a villager in the main tutorial town in a booth at X: 41, Y: 68, Z: 6. I put one of these on my chestplate but it seemed totally unnecessary.

Summoning and defeating the Wither
Once your room is set, build a T with your Soul Sand Blocks (1 at the base, 3 across on top of that base). I would put your Diamond Sword, Notch Apple, and 4 x Milk Buckets in your hot bar. During the battle you can drink the Milk Buckets to neutralize a debuff from the Wither, but it shouldn't be necessary because of the Notch Apple.

Make sure your game is set to Easy or harder, place the Nether Skulls on top of the T of Soul Sand Blocks, and the Wither will spawn. Back up from the Wither as it'll slowly charge up it's health. Once it's full, it'll cause a minor explosion and you won't want to be hit by it. Once it explodes, rush in, slash it with your sword, and you'll kill it in no time.

It's really not a hard fight, should take you 5-10 seconds. Gathering everything is definitely the hard part.

CURRENT GUIDE FOR THE UPDATE AQUATIC

It seems that the glitch to get the Wither stuck in Nether bedrock mentioned in other guides has been patched, so you'll have to kill the Wither legitimately.

I recommend turning off autosave while working on this achievement, and playing on Easy.

Preparation
In the banner area of the tutorial world, there's a chest with various dyes and other decorations, and five Wither skulls. You'll need three to spawn the Wither. You'll also need Soul Sand, which can be found in the potions area.

In the farm area of the tutorial world, there's a giant pickaxe made of diamond blocks. Make an iron pickaxe first so you can break the diamonds, then use a crafting table to break the diamond blocks into diamonds. I recommend making a diamond pickaxe, and going ahead and making several diamond swords and a full set of diamond armor for the Wither fight. In my game one of the villagers was selling a diamond sword with a Smite II enchantment, but I don't know if that's always the case.

It's worth having some food in your inventory for healing and some dirt or cobblestone in case you need to tower during the fight.

Spawning and Killing the Wither
I recommend stashing everything except the skulls and soul sand, your armor, a single sword, some food, and a stack of dirt or other throwaway building blocks. You're probably going to die a few times doing this, so stash an extra 3-4 diamond swords in a chest. You should also save in a bed near whatever chest you use so you can easily access it on respawn.

It's best to spawn the Wither in a contained area so it can't immediately escape you. I chose to go to the minecart area of the tutorial and follow the tracks far underground. The spawning pattern for the Wither is as in this screenshot (borrowed from another guide):
External image

Once you spawn the Wither, it will take a few seconds to "charge," then output splash damage. Put some distance between you and it so you don't get hit. Once it's done that, the Wither will slowly attempt to tunnel upwards. Its main attack is a sequence of four skull projectiles. The first three will be gray and come at you fast. The last one is blue and slow, and can be deflected back with a swing of your sword.

At this point, the easiest thing to do is to close in and take sword swipes at the Wither, doing your best to dodge the gray projectiles and return the blues. You'll probably die once or twice, but that's fine; just grab one of the swords you stashed and come back.

After losing half its health, the Wither will stop trying to ascend and instead will aggressively smash through walls. In my case, this made it bust out of the mineshaft entirely and escape out onto the water in the main tutorial area. You'll have an easier time closing in at this point, so just keep up your attacks.

If everything goes well, you'll bring the Wither's health down to zero and it'll stay in one place and twitch before exploding and popping your achievement.

My coordinates were X-13, Y-123, Z-111. Couldn't find the video solution spots so I started digging up in the nether and found a great spot with ceiling bricks. I cleared out the majority of the area and the ceiling blocks formed a mini blockage in the middle of the room. I saved right before I placed the final block to spawn him. When he spawned, he got stuck in the ceiling and I killed with 2 1/2 gold swords. I had all gold armor and 2 golden apples but didn't need to use the one apple I ate once he was charged as I took no damage during the fight.

This was the last achievement I needed.

I found this achievement VERY easy to cheese, BUT you'll need to kill the Ender Dragon BEFORE you even consider trying this. Dig under the end EXIT portal (that the Dragon Egg spawns on), so it's two deep with a bedrock ceiling, clear out the underneath so all you have is a bedrock ceiling. In the middle of the floor, make a wither shape out of Obsidian, so it's a one block gap between the Obsidian and the bedrock ceiling. Build it so the tail of the wither is right in the centre, build the wither, and when he spawns, he SHOULD be trapped in the Bedrock, if not, you've messed up and will have to kill him the old fashioned way. Anyway, now all you have to do is keep critical hitting his tail (jump hitting), he can't hit you at all, and you'll be absolutely fine, and the achievement will pop when he dies.

I have a world available for the Wither achievements.
The video says XOne, but the world is actually made in X360 to start with.

There is a very small space for you to spawn it in the killroom.

The killroom is so safe you do not need any piece of armory.
The enchantments are set so you only need a bow and one arrow to kill the wither.
