How to unlock the Treasure Hunter achievement in Minecraft - Definitive Guide

For whatever reason I could not find a world where a cartographer gave me a map to a structure nearby- nonetheless, I got the achievement after about an hour of walking.

I looked up seeds for villages in v. 1.2.0. and found 2129169517. There are three villages just next to the spawn, the first of which has 6 diamonds. The desert village has a cartographer. What I did was I ran around the world and found a bunch of sugar cane to turn into paper. I traded the paper with him once, then waited for him to level up once. I repeated this process twice more to get him to tier four. This is when he sells the woodland treasure map. For me I needed 16 emeralds and a compass. I had a diamond pickaxe from the first village, so the mining materials was quick. There being 3 villages, I was able to trade various items with a lot of villagers to get 16 emeralds, such as coal, wheat, leather, and raw porkchop. Then I bought the map.

I needed to go southwest to get there. However, It was only one map west, so I basically only had to go south. Like I said, this took me an hour of running/boating. When I finally got to the mansion, it crashed. I had to re-walk another 15 minutes before getting there again. This time, I ran around the mansion with my map in hand for about a full minute before the achievement finally unlocked.

If anyone finds a seed where you can do this achievement in less time, comment the seed number and the time it took you and I will update the guide!

Did you do this on peaceful or easy? Because I tried your solution, found the huge mansion you told but my achievement did not popped. It took me more than one hour to reach that mansion. In the end, I spend 3-4 hours to prepare everything correctly, trading sheep wool for emeralds. And all of this for nothing...

I did it on peaceful. Did you try using the entrance and running around the mansion with the map in your main hand?

I did in peaceful as well, and it did not work. I tried many things, going around the mansion many times, entered and fully explored it even more times, put the game on easy and loading it again to do the same thing but nothing happened. In the end, I had kept another save at the village from the beginning and bought the other map from the cartographer, with the underwater temple (cheaper, only 12 emeralds and 1 compass Vs. 25 emeralds and 1 compass). I already tried this but it did not work as well the first time. This is the reason why I tried the wooden mansion. This time, it worked. So, to help anyone who got some trouble to unlock this achievement, it is buggy or glitchy.

Yeah, really pissed of now. Tried with both Ocean Monument and Woodland Mansion... entered and explored. No cheevo, even in current beta patch status. Sucks!

Just did that and it popped here, but this achievement is COMPLETELY RETARDED. I think I walked for 3 hours to get to the damn house! There should be a limit how far something can spawn.

For anyone having trouble, try holding the map in you dominant hand,( i.e. in one of the bottom item slots) instead of your nondominant (i.e. the lone slot at the top).

Spent a good few minutes trying before trying again with a backup. Was about to give up when I tried to hold it in the bottom slot and in a minute or two it popped

Man you weren't kidding when you said the mansion was over an hours run/boat away... Finally got this pain-in-the-ass achievement as soon as I entered the mansion after trying multiple times on other maps with underwater temples! smile

Also, to add I did the same as Tranierx above and held the map in one of my inventory slots rather than my secondary hand slot.

Aco2148117 I actually love you mah dood, the seed was perfect for it. There was even a desert temple close by with lots of bones, so I was able to make paper very quickly with bonemeal. Thank you so much!

Got it on peaceful. Never entered the mansion, just held the map and walked the perimeter. And yes, this is 1+ hours of walking/boating. Great guide, bad achievement.

Just a heads up, the Ocean map DOES work, less than 10 minutes from the village on the same seed, it's the one I used to unlock the achievement myself.

It's just buggy as all heck, built an air shaft down the core of the monument and idled at the bottom for a few minutes on peaceful.

Im in an odd situation which make this easy. I found the woodland mansion very near to where i have built my world. This afternoon i went for and got the cure a zombie villager cheeve. The cured guy is now a cartographer..... sweet. He has taken up residence in my watch tower so assuming he does not despawn i can get the map with little effort and hopefully the map is for the near by mansion. Time will tell!

Great Guide took me about 2 hours on my own to get the achievement , i traded a load of Wheat , Potatos , Coal and Gold to get the Ocean Explorer Map , The water temple Location is 1206 , 48 , -843 . it takes a while for the achivement to pop so take some Potions or Carve an area out to stay where your not going to suffercate .

This still works, but i'm not sure if the seed has changed as there was no cartographer or librarians in the desert village in front of spawn or librarians, and couldn't see other nearby villages. I put a cartography table down in the desert which turned a villager into a cartographer, and gave me a Woodland map at level 3. Took about an hour to get to coordinates -5,800, 74, -10700.

This is easy to do in your current world if you have or can find a village. Simply change as many villagers to cartographers as needed. Unlock and buy a map, find it and done. I just completed this achievement today by using the change job ability within my own world from xbox one.

BTW anyone trying this seed and only finding 2 librarians, keep deleting and generating the world again. The cartographer is wearing white, but isn't a guaranteed spawn. (the librarians are a guaranteed spawn) cartographers have a 50% chance of specializing from librarians. It took me a couple tries to get one on this seed.

UPDATE: After the latest update, this solution will no longer work due to the changes in how villagers trade. Thanks, Mojang! If anyone has any ideas, please leave them in the comments and I will update the solution accordingly.

Aco2148117's solution is great, but I just wanted to share another good seed I found for those who don't want to walk the 20k+ blocks required for his forest mansion :)

The seed number I found is 667503609. Very close to the starting point, there is a village with 3 cartographers (!) and 2 librarians (which I believe have a chance of spawning as cartographers?). The village is located at 191, 64, 304 (there's a temple nearby with some goodies at the bottom as well). Of the three cartographers, I decided to trade with the one whose first trade was for 25 pieces of papers. (The other two were 26 pieces of paper and 30. I'm cheap, so the choice was obvious.)

His full trade path goes:
25 paper for 1 emerald
1 compass for 1 emerald
9 emeralds for 1 empty map
13 emeralds + 1 compass for 1 ocean monument map
(He also offers a forest mansion map for around 26 emeralds, but I was impatient)

I traded him up a few times with paper, then traded him 5 or 6 compasses to level him up enough that I could bypass the 9 emeralds for 1 map and go straight to the ocean map. If you're looking for a good cave for the iron and redstone needed for compasses (not to mention a good amount of coal), I dug a hole literally straight down at 92, X, 154. (Craft a bunch of ladders first so you can climb back out!) Once you're deep enough (I stopped at 92, 12, 154), make your way toward a couple blocks of diamonds located at 102, 11, 167 (watch out for the lava!) and you'll find plenty of redstone and iron along your path.

The ocean monument isn't too far away, but you'll probably want a boat to shave a few minutes off your time. It's located at 2632, 62, 1735. Pack a good stack of food, some ladders, and some cobblestones (the latter two for building a tower on top of the ocean monument to dig straight down into the Elder Guardian's room) and start heading southeast until you get there. Once you're there, dig down into the monument as I mentioned and the achievement should pop after a minute or so of swimming around and coming back up for air. (I was holding the map in my right hand, not in my shield hand. Not sure if it matters.)

Hope this helps! If you have any questions, please feel free to DM me here or on XBL and I'm happy to assist :)

The numbers on my cartographers were a bit different but I bone mealed a bunch of sugar cane to make the paper, and I used the same cave mentioned here to get the iron and redstone for the compasses. The coordinates were right on and it didn't take much time at all. Thanks!

Just to let you know, the update today (April 23, 2019) changed it so the seed number loads differently, and the cartographers give you banner patterns instead of the maps once you level them up all the way. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the map from them to get the achievement — it's my last one, and the world I was grinding materials on yesterday from your original walkthrough was erased with the update.

Worked the correct villager was literally in front of me at spawned. Walled him up. Leveled him up with paper and glass panel I made from nearby sand. Pretty decent cave system under village got my red stone from down there for the compass. Villager gave the ocean monument map. Went to monument stood on top cheevo pooped earlier then expected. THX Dixxxxxen. Took 35-45 minutes.

at 38,68,16 near/in the village there's a mine; so make some tools and start heading down; you'll start seeing water and coal and as you head down you'll find iron ores which require a stone pickaxe to get the iron ore so you can melt it down to get iron ingots,

I dug down at 17, 54,11 and I found a ton of iron and soon I just kept exploring and crafting torches/ladders and other things; SO BRING A LOT OF WOOD; eventually I found lava which meant redstone (for the compass) you need the iron pickaxe to get those.

To make glass you need a furnace and sand and a fuel source.

Nice guide :)

And it didn't work for me at all though I admit I did the Monument part in Peaceful mode to not have to deal with the Elder Guardian. I spent an hour over the Ocean Monument in a boat, out of the boat and digging up Prismarine and found nothing in the Monument but a bunch of sponges. Not a single chest to be found. Up to that point everything in the seed worked as expected. Maybe the Forest Mansion will work, though the Emeralds will be a grind now.

Not sure why it wouldn't work yesterday but I didn't give up and went back today and literally walked around the Ocean Monument on the sea bed and when I completed a lap the Achievement finally popped for me. Exploring the area I found close by the Monument a cluster of ruins that yielded emeralds and treasure maps, one of which led me to an island with Heart of the Sea in a buried chest. Location is in the area around 2670, XX, 1580. Thanks for the seed.

Worked great. Lots of sugar cane available around the Village. I'd recommend going to the temple and getting the bones for bone meal to boost the sugar cane. The cave had everything you needed to make about 10 compasses.

Found an easy way to get this is less than 30 minutes. The key here is the elytra wings. The tutorial world has them and plenty of fireworks. Stock up on diamond armor, emeralds, iron, paper, wheat, redstone, and anything else you think will come in handy for trading. Also bring an ANVIL, LEATHER, and XP POTIONS. You will need this to repair your elytra wings. Also make sure you are on PEACEFUL mode so you don't die easily.

I used a tutorial world ported over from Xbox One. Once you port it over, it creates infinite world generate. Fly just to the west in the new generation area and you will find two villages (I went directly west from the giant red flag pole you cant miss at spawn). The first has a cartographer. He needed paper, compasses and emeralds before he gave me a map. (Note this was done on version 1.2.3.3, so if hes not there the concept remains the same. Use the elytra wings and fly around until you find a village with a cartographer). As long as you bring the right supplies you should be able to get the map in less than 15 mins.

Now for the journey, I had to go north to get to the mansion. Simple fly with the elytra wings and constantly use fire works. It took me two stacks of fireworks to get there in less than 15 mins. I had to make several stops to repair my wings, so make sure you keep checking your inventory to make sure they arent going to break. If they get close, simply use the anvil and combine the wings with leather and spend xp to repair them.

Worked perfect. Only problem I had was when I got the once I got the map I was on the corner of it so I didn't know where to go. I used the sun setting in the west to figure out which direction to go and got there, luckily, in one flight with the elytra. Thanks for the help!

If you use the tutorial method, but don't use the wings to fly there, make sure yo bring or make a boat. It's a long trek with a few oceans in the way.

I went directly west from the giant red flag pole you cant miss at spawn. The village was maybe 30 seconds from it if flying. But the village might not generate if you are playing on a newer version of the game. So I'd recommend flying around with the wings and looking for villages in deserts or plains. By air, you should be able to find them pretty quickly. Just make sure you have a way of getting back to spawn in case you need to go and get extra items to trade (Highly recommended you stock up leaving). Also make sure you copy down the coordinates to the village.

So first of all, this guide is meant for people who are trying to unlock this achievement by hosting an achievement world from any other device than the x1 (PC, phone, tablet, etc.). You are most likely wanting to use this world, or in case anyone has got a better alternative, feel free to post it. Here is the solution for the Win 10 PC, you can use these worlds for Win10 PC and phone.

Solution for Treasure Hunter In Minecraft (Windows)

For all other MCPE versions use this world.
Solution for Treasure Hunter In Minecraft (Android)

Unsure how to import worlds? -> Look at the walkthrough for the game version of the device hosting.
Unsure how to actually unlock the achievement? -> look at the solutions mentioned above.

Now once you have your worlds loaded on another device to host an issue a lot of people apparently encounter is how to locate the tower on the ocean monument with the llama's, the map, the evoker, the anvils, etc. (as I have received this question at least a dozen times).

You should see a dot on the host's cartographers map, I believe in bottom left corner. That means that the player joining on x1 has to travel in the direction North East to get to the host (bottom right would mean North West, top right would mean South West etc.)

Now the way to figure out where North East South and West are is that clouds always move East to West, so use those to get your directions straight. Look up in the sky and see where the clouds go to. If you know East and West you also know North and South. Next part is to walk a bit towards the achievement set up. I remember it being quite a walk but not too bad.

A lot of people have reported this not unlocking, which it didnt for me.

First off, the map must be in your main hand, so its equipped like equipment in the hotbar along the bottom, not in your offhand in the inventory screen.

If it does not unlock, with the map in your main hand, save and exit the game, quit to the dashboard, turn off your xbox by holding in the power button on the console until the machine turns off. Wait 30 seconds+ and turn the xbox back on and load your saved game. After a few seconds / minutes, the achievement should unlock.

I was getting it not unlocking and this is what solved it for me.

Credit goes to the ms rep on this thread:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/all/minecraft...

One note is he said change it to easy - i did not, and i dont think it makes a difference.

For those who are having problems thanks to the village and pillage update, I was able to buy a map from a fletcher (this guy sell arrows). If you see any villager trading some strange map (not blank map or locator map), give a try.

Hope this helps.smile

Edit: It was an "map of the forest explorer" sold by an fletcher

The achievement is not bugged, I made it today without problems (v1.193101.0 Oct 2022). Find a Cartographer or turn a Villager into one, then develop your skill to Master and see if he have the Forest map available to acquire, if not, restore your save and try again until it appears. After acquiring the map, just go to the location of the mansion, enter it and view the map, achievement unlocked.

Ok, to whoever might be looking for this in 2022, it seems bugged but, from my experience, what unlocks this achievement is when you get to the woodland mansion on your map you need to juggle it in and out of your off hand, do this repeatedly and the achievement should pop.
